Not as good as the early ones .......2006-04-24
I agree with many other reviewers in that this series has lost it lately. The first ten or so were excellant, but then the storylines kinda fell through. One reason I give for this is that Mrs. Farley writes up two or three books a month. You've got to give books a little more attention than that!
Also, when did everyone in the series start talking with such poor grammar usage!? It seems like no one can say a complete, proper sentence and Sam, Jen and Jake use "like" almost every other word! It's so annoying! I don't remember that in the earlier books.
I'm just hoping this series doesn't end up like the saddle club books, which have at least 100 books in the series. If the Phantom Stallion does that, and it keeps going downhill, it won't be worth the time to read.
And another thing, when Hotspot shows up out of the blue, everyone acts like, "Oh, Hotspot, you're here! Let's pretend that its completely normal for you to run away. Oh, and we won't tell Slocum you're here, because he won't notice you're gone." Come on!
Anyway, I would encourage horse lovers to read this series. Be ready to be disappointed with the later books, though.

This whole series, to me anyway, is junk. In my opinion, the wild mustangs are very well cared for by the BLM. God, if you wanna read a good, western, great reading book, try Louis L'Amour....

This IS the only one of the newer books in the series that appeals to ME. Lately, the whole series has been going downhill, so I've cut back on reading them. Moonrise was okay but 15 stunk, except for Shy Boots of course. :P And, how the heck does Blaze JUST showup? This is starting to turn into THOROUGHBRED. *Sighs* This one was alot better, but still lacking alittle. Callie suddenly shows up? She lets the Phantom go even though he MIGHT still be deaf? They don't explain what REALLY happened to Pirate? I don't want him to live with Scott! AGHGGHHHHHGGHH!!!!!! ERRRRRRR!!!!!!! EEEEEEEHHHHHHH!!!! TORT!!!(Sorry, that was for the Grim Grotto review) ACKKKKKKCKCK!!!! Okay, I had to get that out. I hope everything clears up, or this series will DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! I miss the older books. Slocum is just juvenile. And EVEN *GASP* Sam is getting annoying. *Ppl throw cups at me, and tomatoe juice* SORRY, case closed.

#16 is the only one of the newer books in the series that really appeals to me. Suprisingly, Slocum caused no trouble throughout this book, and I liked that. Terri's wonderful writing style is pleasently evident. I really liked it!

Replica of her Amanda Quick's Scandal.......2007-03-28
If you've read her Amanda Quick novels, this contemporary story is almost the exact replica of the novel, "Scandal".
Heroine proposes to hero, who has a hidden agenda. Of course he's rich and he has almost the same history as "Scandal", whose father has gotten into debt and gets out of the picture leaving the family to deal w/ the debt, and the oldest child having to pay back debts that his father's friends/business associates want paid right away. Of course hero grows up and wants vengence for this when he grows up. But his plans get waylaid when heroine interferes and convinces hero that vengence is not the right path.
The book is so similar that a couple of times I caught myself looking at the cover to make sure I had the right book. The only difference in this book is that one is set in contemporary times and the other in historical time.

I heard that this was Krentz's best novel and it was great! Oliver was such a unique character and he just melted for Annie. While Annie was a bit outrageous (discussing their sex life problems with ex-boyfriends????), she was the perfect complement to Oliver's coldness.
Krentz leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling after her novels (like Julie Garwood). You can't miss this one!
JAK Characterization at its Best!.......2006-03-26
Some might think that the characters in "Wildest Hearts" are boring and cliché, but JAK is known for her particular style of characterization, which obviously works considering the large JAK following. In "Wildest Hearts," Oliver Rain and Annie Lyncroft exhibit JAK characterization at its best. Oliver like so many of JAK's heroes is aloof, controlled, business savvy and sexy. Annie is an original. She is also intensely loyal. Unlike so many romance novels which focus on the "lovely" and "beautiful" virginal "miss," JAK waxes less on the physical and more on the sexual and romantic tension between the protagonists. Among my favourite JAK books are the ones published by Pocket Books. A lot of these books have Seattle as a backdrop. Those who know Seattle know that it's full of quirky out-of-the-box people. This unique backdrop is evident throughout "Wildest Hearts." Note for instance, Ella Presswood, Melvin Finch et al. JAK even has Oliver doing yoga. Characterization aside, "Wildest Hearts" is a great story. It moves smoothly without superfluous side stories, and even includes elements of suspense. For those who consider themselves loyal JAK fans, "Wildest Hearts" is a sure winner!
Had potential but..........2004-01-31
I have read a few stories by Amanda Quick and was unimpressed. Recently I picked up a book by Jane Ann Krentz and found it to be not to bad... must have been the exception. I picked up a few other books by her under the assumption that she wrote better in the present tense and went with that idea. Boy was I wrong. Not to shun or critized Ms. Krentz but I found the writing in this book to be stereo typical romance novel. The characters were not convincing and I could not believe any of them. This book had potetial... the plot itself was great but the characters never really came alive. I agree with another respondant that Bolt was the saving grace of this book!
Don't waste your money, if you MUST read it get it from the public library!

This is an excellent read. Annie and Oliver are great.
Oliver carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Annie is the perfect person to help him carry that weight.
This is a classic JAK novel. Slightly quirky characters. Suspense. Great dialog.
If you haven't read it, read it. If you have read it, read it again.

I love this book. I read it when I was a junior in High School. I'm 46 years old now and it's still as clear as yesterday in my memory. I love the relationship that Rowena has with her "half breed" lover. I remember sitting on a New York subway train, reading this book and actually crying!!! No other book has ever had this effect on me...not even "Sweet Savage Love," that was the popular book at that time. Jinny has nothing over Rowena. I even swore I'd name my first daughter after her. What a great story!!! Rogers best.

I found this book at a charity bazaar and started to read it,so spelbound I was and forgetting my surroundings,being caught up in this historical romance that I didn't notice the last page was missing. No I am ordering a new copy to keep for my Library and to read the last page. I will read it again.

Like a mini-series.......2005-03-08
I love Rosemary Rogers' style of writing. Her stories are always epic-like and I could easily see them made into a mini-series. I really loved this book. The characters were so human and flawed yet you breathe a sigh of relief or contentment when they finally get together and show an ounce of tenderness towards each other. If all you have to do is read the title of a book and it triggers all the poignant feelings that the characters conjured up while reading it, I'd say the author did a good job of writing a great story.

Once again Rosemary Rogers does it again. This book was filled with memorable characters. I enjoyed it immensely. Another can't put down book as usual. The romance was exciting as always. If you like historical romance this book is a must.
The Best Twist and Love Story I Have Read!.......2000-09-19
This is my all time favorite story. The characters lived lives that were realistic with their sexual laisons, etc. I get tired of reality being left out of romance books. Authors like Rogers who dare to include in their stories such things as the incest the step father forced on Rowena make the stories more interesting. This story has so many interesting and shocking twist to it as the family history and relationships are revealed. I fell in love with Lucas. He seemed to be such a senuous man. The relationship between him and Rowena was disturbing, erotic, and thankfully ended positive. I can't say enough about the twist in the stroy, these twist and Lucas is what made this my all time favorite!!!

Valuable for ordinary gardeners, also........2002-08-29
If you are looking for non-hybrid vegetable seed sources, this is the book for you. It lists vegetables, their characteristics and where their seed may be obtained. I own a copy and have spent hours enjoying it. I don't consider myself a zealot, just an avid gardener who is interested in preserving the vegetable gene pool, and trying some old varieties. I was interested in finding disease and insect resistant varieties. If your library has this book you can take a look at it before buying to be sure it is what you are looking for. I had to have my own copy.
The perfect book for the vegetable garden zealot........2001-04-17
Printed on the inside of the cover there are praises for "Garden Seed Inventory," and rightly so, for it is a valuable, "one of a kind" catalogue of all the vegetable seeds offered by garden seed companies in North America.
Dr. Harlan, retired professor of plant genetics (there's a clue for you) states that the book is for "enthusiastic gardeners, plant breeders and those interested in the preservation of seed stocks." Now I think of myself as an enthusiastic amateur gardener, but it will take a whole lot more than my enthusiasm to really make this tome useful. This is a book that a professor of plant genetics should have. This is the book that the owners of one of the 255 seed companies listed in the book should have, and this is the book that a seed zealot would have, but not your normal `enthusiastic gardener'.
Don't get me wrong, this book is extremely valuable to the right person. As Wendell Berry said, "The saving of seeds has become a matter of the greatest importance, for we are on the verge of losing the genetic diversity of our food crops.". Over the last 20 years, because of mega-transnational corporations buying out the small seed companies, there has been a significant loss of local or regional varieties. Here's why; when a large corporation gets into the seed business they have to cover a large market, so they breed for a variety of vegetables plants that can grow anywhere across North America (hybrid) and dump the regional plants. In 1981, the first edition of "Garden Seed Inventory" there were 493 tomatoes (red) varieties available; by 1998 there were 108 still available (78% drop). Then again, in the same period, there were 546 new varieties brought to market.
What this book is really about is saving our vegetable heritage and assuring genetic preservation. It is the seed squealer of horticulture books. It will tell you which varieties are about to be dropped and it also helps you find regional varieties that you can plant, thus preserve the lineage. It is a great tool for those that are ready to move from enthusiastic gardener to zealous, non-hybrid vegetable seed gardener. However, for the rest of us Americans, we will probably plant our gardens with the seeds that were on the rack at the local stores and when they come up, if they come up, enthusiastically smile. Highly Recommended for the zealot, conditionally recommended for the rest of us.

Mystery, adventure,destruction. This is a well written book with good plot lines. Characters are likeable and well thought out. The battle scene descriptions made this book hard to put down and were described enough to make you think you were in the middle of the action. All in all an above average start for a 3 part series....

Once you start reading it, you will want to read straight to the end. You will share this book with friends and anticipate the next book in the trilogy.
