Book Description
No one blends humor and heartbreak like Rita Ciresi, whose award-winning novels are lauded as much for their generous wit as for their unflinching honesty. Ciresi’s crowd-pleasing novel
Pink Slip captivated readers and critics alike, introducing two utterly unforgettable characters and a love story both bittersweet and comic. Now Ciresi returns to the people and place of that irresistible bestseller in a riotous and rueful, sexy and poignant tale of married love…a novel that asks how two people who fell desperately, passionately, heartbreakingly in love can sustain a second act.
It’s Valentine’s Day, and Lisa Strauss, nee Diodetto, is spending it playing dutiful wife at a $100-a-head benefit instead of in bed with Eben, her hardworking husband of (is it only?) five years. Once upon a time, Lisa, too, was a member of the corporate workaday world--until she fell in love with her boss (Eben), gave birth to a cute but rambunctious son, and gradually morphed into a stay-at-home mom. Somewhere in the mix Lisa also is a writer with ambitions of fame and glory, but those dreams seem to be shrinking, along with her sex life. That is, until a hotshot literary agent shows interest in Lisa’s magnum opus.
Suddenly, she has a pen name, and an excerpt of her book appears in Playboy. In between revising chapters, Lisa is trying--and failing miserably--to get pregnant again. She’s going house-hunting with Cynthia Farquhar, the gorgeous blond Realtor/divorcee who has become her closest confidante (and the object of Eben’s secret fantasies). And she’s wondering if this is all marriage is and can ever be: bonded for life to a man who may never again be the red-hot lover of their pre-marriage union. In fact, he just may turn out to be the conflicted protagonist of her novel--a devoted family man whose moral fiber may not be strong enough to withstand the slings and arrows of lust and temptation. As their lives begin to bizarrely mirror aspects of Lisa’s book…as marital life as they know it teeters on the edge of utter chaos, Lisa and Eben search--apart and together--for the answer to the question that has plagued husbands and wives since time immemorial: Can love survive marriage?
In a wickedly funny, right-on-target look at love and relationships, Rita Ciresi peels back the layers of a marriage with equal doses of hilarity and humanity. Filled with all the zest, zingers, and unexpected surprises of life,
Remind Me Again Why I Married You is this uncommonly gifted author at her lusty and liberating best.

Please don't compare it to Pink Slip.......2006-10-08
Tho' it's a sequel, it's not Pink Slip II, and some readers expecting more antics from the colorful secondary characters have been disappointed, judging by earlier reviews (though the agents--stylish realtor Cynthia Farquahar and young hotshot literary agent "Aye Aye"--are great minor characters). The focus is pretty exclusively on Lisa and Ebb and the trials and tribulations of married life, but especially on the conflict between Lisa the (aspiring) novelist and Lisa the disgruntled hausfrau and corporate wife. Without being coyly metafictional, it's also about the dilemma any fiction writer faces in "stealing"--and altering--material from real life. How much of the intesely private Ebb should wind up in Lisa's novel, _I'm Sorry, This is My Life_? The book is also about the way the droll imagination of Lisa-the-novelist recasts real-life events, and deepens and darkens her various discontents.
The events that Lisa is tempted to fictionalize--and that disrupt her writing--are recounted with the verve and wit you can count on from Ciresi: the struggle to get pregnant for a second time, the ordeal of buying a new house, the mundane problem of coping with a sick toddler in winter. The book is very carefully plotted. The alternating Ebb and Lisa sections complement each other nicely. If Ebb doesn't always seem to think and behave in ways you'd expect of a high-level executive at a major pharmaceutical firm, he's a well-rounded, engaging character and a great foil to Lisa.
Bottom line: If you approach this book with too many preconceptions or expectations based on Pink Slip, you might be disappointed. It's a more complex, less outrageous book, with a more ambiguous ending. But Lisa's voice is just as funny and simpatico, it's a winning story, and I found it every bit as enjoyable.
Dull, dry and a little depressing.......2006-06-23
The humor is definitely not in the book - reviews and summaries use the word "hilarity" however, I did not come across any situation that I would classify as even funny, not to mention hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed her first novel, Pink Slip, however, this one seemed depressing. The two main characters appeared to have no respect or show any outward love toward each other until the very end of the story. The plot seemed to be very SLOW - the whole story took place in a matter of days, but really, nothing took place in the book. All in all, they bought a house. I would pass on this for better reads elsewhere.
Dry, boring wanna be.......2006-04-27
This book tries, but fails. The jokes are dry. Humor is dated. I couldn't finsih it. The story had nothing to pull me in. Get Sophie Kinsella instead, you will be much happier.
an average read.......2006-01-28
I think it is hard for me to reconcile the fact that this is the sequel to Pink Slip, which was truly funny and smart. This follows the mariage of Eben and Lisa, but isn't as warm or touching. It is pretty realistic abou thte difficulties of marraige but deosn't show the joys very well. Lisa strikes me as very off-putting in this.
i agree with another reviewer who was just as puzzeld as I about the disappearance of family and friends-I loved those characters (especially Lisa's Mom) in book 1. Without these characters, the book is very neurotic and Lisa frankly seems self-obsessed.
Even with my gripes, I still say Ciresi is a very good author. I kept right on reading the book to see how it would end.
Remind me to read it again !!.......2005-07-20
Forget spies, murders, international conspiracy plots, political thrillers, true kidnap stories...and enter the world of one desperate houswife ( with due credit to the tv soap title).
She is a stay at home mother, a closet writer, a wife who says that she 'plotz'ed' when she has an orgasm.
He is your typical suit, growing older, having fantasies about comely real estate agents, is often constipated and wears awful ties.
In short these are you two average Joe's who lead Average Joe lives...with a lot of humour, pathos and that magic inredient which the author manages to get across - relatability. Anyone who is a post 30's mom, tired corporate wife, desperately trying to conceive, wannabe romance writers ...must read this one !

Excellent guide for the beginner.......2004-05-23
This book by the two great masters of the Ogdoadic Tradition of Western Magick claims that psychic abilities are natural to all people, that they are nor fantasy but a real and dynamic aspect of one's total body, mind, soul and spirit. These powers are not limited to special individuals although it may hold rue that that the lifestyle, dietary and exercise habits, meditations and love of life in certain people are indeed conducive to the development of these powers.
Some people are born with a greater inclination or natural talent in a certain direction but all of us can develop most of the vast range of powers and abilities that have always been part of the heritage of the human race. This is particularly true of the powers of the mind, since they have their roots in the instinctive-emotional level of the psyche that is the most ancient and fundamental part of our evolutionary heritage.
The book is a practical guide that includes checkpoint exercises at the end of each chapter. The chapters are: 1. Inspiration and Equipment; 2. Exploring Your Potential; 3. Psychic Abilities And Mechanisms; 4. Insight And Foreknowledge; 5. Astral Imprints; 6. The Spiritualist Approach; 7. A Search In Two Worlds. Appendix A deals with ESP testing, record sheets and keeping a log book, whilst Appendix B provides the Tabor Formulation, a meditation for use at the beginning of psychic development sessions. There is also a glossary of terms.
Black and white illustrations of pendulums, shapes used for ESP cards, vision mirrors and the method of using angle rods in dowsing, enhance the text. This is a simple, practical and easy-to-use guide. I also recommend Awakening Your Psychic Powers: Open Your Inner Mind And Control Your Psychic Intuition Today by Henry Reed, and for more information on the Ogdoadic tradition of art magic, the book Ogdoadic Magick by Norman R. Kraft.
This one didn't do it for me........2001-01-04
I got through about 75% of this book and lost interest. I have read many books related to this subject and did not find this one very helpful.
Horrible new age nonsense!.......1999-09-22
Llewellyn's Worldwide has proven itself to be a 50/50 publisher. Half of the books they publish are absolutely wonderful, while the other half are disgustingly New Age and absolutely horrible. Unfortunately, "Development of Psychic Powers" is one of the stinkers from the New Age sink-hole. Any serious Occultist knows that Psychic abilities come through Magick, and do not require any outside studies to be obtained. Any true student of Magick and the Occult will should likely avoid this book, unless you'd like to get a good laugh out of some lovely New Age hogwash.
Psychic Powers? Does Everyone Possess Them?.......1997-09-04
Psychic powers? God given gifts? Or are they? In this text, you too can start on the development of your birth-right. From the text, everyone has psychic ability. Through the teachings in this book, you too can unlock the powers of your brain, and learn to use them in your day-to-day life. Add it to your shopping cart. This is a definite curiousity builder . .

I love this author's books! Nalini Singh.......2005-06-29
eHarlequin.com Book Summary - Charlotte Ashton had never belonged anywhere - until she met worldly Alexandre Dupree. The winemaker was consulting at her family's vineyard, and soon shy Charlotte was completely under his spell. He seemed to know all her secret desires, all her dreams - as if he'd been put on earth just for her pleasure.
Alexandre seduced Charlotte in all the ways she had fantasized about. He'd read her secret journal and discovered the real Charlotte - the sensual lover, the generous woman, the vulnerable virgin. Was his crime so unforgivable when all he'd wanted was her love? Yet now to maintain her trust, he would have to continue to lie.... (End Summary)
I love this book just like I love all of the Nalini Singh books I've read - she gets the balance between sex and romance just right - this is a must read for fans of her style.

Nice Try.......2001-03-06
What we have here is an English import whose author simply helped himself to the title of a very well known American book WORD FOR WORD! There oughta be a law...but I suppose there isn't.
A great book for the inexperienced!.......2001-02-14
I decided to buy this over Gordon Inkeles' arbitrarily, and I have read through it once so far. I already feel ready to use the techniques that are so thoroughly and sensually described. The photos are usually helpful and tasteful (Puritans be damned!) and the sections on oil selection, etc, are well presented. It's a little over the top on creating a sensual environment -- not all of us always have the time or money to create the lavish dens so described, but it does create a tastefully erotic tone for the entire book. I haven't used the techniques yet, but again, I feel confident just knowing a small portion of what is written. Highly recommended, though I'll try other books too as my experience grows. One star? Seems impossible.
VERY PLEASURABLE BEDSIDE BOOK.......2001-02-06
My boyfirend and I read this book, one chapter at a time. We tried out all the different sensual and exotic massage techniques described in this book and we were pretty upset when we were finished with the book. We learned many different ways to please and satisfy each other, just by touching each other on different parts of our bodies and by focusing on our pleasure zones. This book offers good advise that can be useful for everyone, especially couples. This was a great book and the price was very reasonable.
Very Sensual for both men and women.......2001-02-06
My wife and I just finished reading this book and we both enjoyed it very much. The book covers in-depth techniques on how to gently and seductively rub each other in ways that are pleasurable physically and emotionally. As a relationsation tool, this book offers great tips and as a sexual guide, it offers awsome tips on how to rub your partner in wyas that will get instant erotic responses from them. We recommend it to all couples and can't imagine anyone rating this book low. I think the reader from Miami didn't read past the table of contents!
Great book........2001-01-05
I read this book and really enjoyed it. It's a great thourough and informative guide to sensual massaging. The techniques are well explained and simple to do. My boyfriend was very pleased with the sensual massage he received. This type of sensual massaging is a pleasurable and erotic way of putting your hands all over your lovers body. I enjoyed reading this book and my boyfriend is still enjoying what I learned, now he's reading it.

Least of my favorites for Edgar Cayce related books.......2006-09-08
I am fascinated by Edgar Cayce and his insight. However, this book was very disappointing. I thought the dialog was boring and reiterated many other books I have read. Nothing new and just questions and answers with no depth or substance. I never even made it to page 10 and put it down. In fact, I want to send the book back to Amazon and get a refund. I have never sent a book back to Amazon in the many years I have been buying from them. This will be the first. Buy the books written by Henry Reed and Mark Thurston instead. They are great authors.

A Fun Read.......2005-12-19
In THE HUNTING CLUB, we were introduced to the character of Heris Serrano, unfairly cashiered fleet officer turned private yacht captain for a rich eccentric who likes riding to hounds. It was not the most stellar of books but it was interesting enough to hold the attention. It also prepares the way for this one and this one IS a very good read.
In the previous book, the captain helped to foil a plot in which rich nobility engaged in illicit hunting. It was not the hunting which made it illicit, it was the fact that humans were the quarry. An idiot of a prince had let himself get involved in the hunting and the captain, her employer and a group of unlikely spoiled brats saved the day. In this book, these people who know the prince, realize that there is something wrong with him. He may naturally be a spoiled product of privilege but he was not supposed to be stupid. He is. They have stumbled onto a plot which involved royal intrigue, smuggling, power politics and a fair amount of "whodunit".
What started out as a fair series with nothing really special about it is shaping up to become something more.
This story works well on all of its several levels.......2005-01-16
Heris Serrano, who resigned her Regular Space Service commission after disobeying orders for good reason, chose not to go back when her chance came at the end of Hunting Party. In this trilogy's second volume, Heris is still captain of Lady Cecelia's yacht; but she now has several members of her former crew with her, including the man who couldn't be her lover in the old days.
After delivering Prince Gerel home following certain embarrassing events on Seralis, Lady Cecelia orders the Sweet Delight into a redecorating company's drydock. As Heris prepares to oversee the yacht's refitting, she feels great uneasiness about Lady Cecelia's safety. But trouble, when it comes, strikes the unconventional old lady down in one of the places where she should have been safest. The family rebel, who never needed anyone before, lies helpless in a blind, mute, paralyzed body; and the only people who know she's aware inside that body, Heris and two of her employer's young relatives, also know that what felled her wasn't a massive stroke. As her enemies move to lock Lady Cecelia away permanently and take control of her vast holdings, the disgraced ex-RSS officer and two young socialites form a desperate plan.
This story works well on all of its several levels. It's a seat-of-the-pants adventure, set in a well-conceived future universe, cast with characters who change in believable ways as a result of their experiences. It also manages to delve into such serious themes as how families behave toward their nonconforming members in time of crisis, how societies treat their disabled citizens, and how fear of aging can stunt - or even warp - not just individuals, but entire cultures. An excellent read!
Read 'Hunting Party' first!.......2000-12-05
The initial pages ramble as the author gathers all the threads begun in 'Hunting Party'. If I hadn't read the two books back to back I would have had to reread the first to know what was going on. The middle is solid and gripping, but the end, I think, sets you up for 'Winning Colors'.
Go, Moon, Go!.......2000-11-25
This is probably one of the most satisfying books in the long series of the Familias. Though the plot unravels a little bit too fast and too easily at the end, the book is packed with action, full with non-related plots that intersect each other anyway.
There is also a comforting sense of completion at the book's end, something which is often missing from Elizabeth Moon's books (on her series).
Absorbing Space Opera.......2000-10-10
The first of Elizabeth Moon's Familias Regnant novels, _Hunting Party_, was enjoyable, but the second, _Sporting Chance_, is much better. It was, for want of a fresher word, gripping. It compels reading, it's very exciting, the character are extremely involving, and it has some interesting ideas too. Heris' employer Cecelia has noticed that the Crown Prince appears to have been tampered with: he's acting unusually dull. She tells the King, which turns out to be political folly. Cecelia ends up poisoned in a scary way: she is paralyzed, still conscious but unable to communicate or convince anyone else that she is not a vegetable. She has left Heris her ship in her will: thus Heris becomes a prime suspect. The story follows several threads: Heris takes a secret mission for the King, trying to find the Prince's illegal clones; while Brun and Ronnie, two younger members of the nobility who were "reformed" by Cecelia and Heris in _Hunting Party_, take action to get Cecelia appropriate medical treatment, and Heris' new employee Sirkin deals with a foolish lover who gets her involved in some very dangerous situations. The action is pretty much nonstop, despite much of the story being told from the viewpoint of a paralyzed, incommunicado, individual, and the resolution is solid. My main quibble is that the villains are too too BAD.

Will the real Susie Raymond please stand up ...........2001-11-29
OK, so after reading and reviewing two other books from this author, 'Forbidden Fruit' and 'Taking Liberties' as blow out five star contemporary erotic specials there was no doubt that I had to get my hands on 'A Sporting Change' to see if we could get a 3 for 3 .....
Sorry, this book deserves a rasberry! First of all I can't understand why the author picked a hockey team in the UK as being the 'scene' for this book ... she may as well have chosen the bobsledding team of Jamaica for all the hokey they play in the UK. Certainly from the get go it all appeared pretty unrealistic to me.
The main character, Maggie, also seemed contrived except for the fact that she is a licentious slut that would really do anything for hockey tickets ....
Seems like the author knocked this book out without much of the same thought and skill of her previous two books forgetting about the orginal purpose of eroticism to entice the reader to enjoy finish and the story .....
makes you want to watch hockey.......2001-06-05
Pretty good book. The sex was good and the characters interesting. I got lost a couple of times with the jumping around, but all in all not bad.
Sex and excitement in the British ice-hockey scene.......2000-09-02
...except that Britain doesn't really have an ice-hockey scene. I can't help feeling that this story would have worked better if it had been set somewhere like Canada, where the sport has greater status and women are more likely to get soggy knickers over hunky ice-hockey stars.
The early chapters are set in my home town (yay!), but I'm not sure we've even got an ice-rink anymore - we certainly don't have a team. I know its fiction, but even so...
But is the plot any good? Well, sadly not. It seems to lurch from one incident to another. Early in the book the heroine, Maggie, pretty much disappears for three chapters whilst we follow the adventures of three of her friends - one of whom, Claire, is last seen fleeing the men's changing rooms, not to be seen again except for a somewhat superfluous appearance in the final chapter. Eventually, the plot seems to settle down as Maggie gaining revenge on her fraudulent boss for unfair dismissal, but many of the chapters seem to be just so much padding.
So why did I give it three stars? Well, the sex is good (it would have to be) - although I did feel that Susie Raymond had peaked a little early when she had Maggie shag half the team in chapter three. But the descriptions are full & thrilling - and I thought the one involving middle-aged Sara & young stud Ean was quite sweet (a bit like the school dinner lady bonking the head boy!)
So, to sum up. If you don't like ice-hockey, enjoy the sex and fast forward through the 'plot'.

Book Description
In this innovative study, Patrick Ismond provides an analysis of the issue of racism within British sport. It presents a number of theoretical positions regarding race, racism and sport, before providing a background history of the involvement of minority ethnic communities. Much detailed primary research is used to inform interesting discussions concerning racism in sport and its relationship to ethnicity, identity and notions of Englishness and Britishness. The study also includes a valuable analysis of sexism in sport, and the discrimination suffered by minority ethnic sportswomen.

Probably Never Printed.......2002-05-22
I have never found a copy of this book either. "The Sporting Chance" is a short story found in "The Saint Around The World", so it is probably either a renaming of that collection or a mistake. I called the publisher, and they said that when the got enough orders they would pull the book from the Library of Congress and reprint it. Good luck! There is no such title at the Library of Congress.
This book may be the ultimate illusion.......2002-01-28
I have been seaching for this book since 1980. Even calls to he publisher have failed to confirm this book has ever existed at all. I double dare anyone to offer conclusive proof that his book, by this publisher, and with this ISBN #, actually exists!
I'm sure this book,if it exists, is wonderful because Leslie Charteris' books are always excellent -- but who has ever seen it, let alone read it?

Book Description
The teachings of Lao Tzu present the core of Taoist philosophy and provide practical guidelines for a natural, harmonious life. Hua-Ching Ni's translation and elucidation help make this cherished work spiritually relevant to modern readers who are seeking to apply its truth in their daily lives.
Customer Reviews:
Deep Meaning.......2007-09-09
The wisdom of Lao Tzu is wonderfully expressed in this book. It's a "keeper" and I share it with interested friends. Unfortuately I have to buy more because they also keep the book often with thanks.
#54.......2007-08-31
THe book is not open or closed. It flows knowledge when it is visible to the reader or not.
I cherish this book.......2005-11-05
I do not have an elaborate in-depth comparison of this work to other Tao Teh Ching translations. I merely have my own perspective with this one.
When I purchased the book, I read several other translations at the book store and chose this version simply because it was easier to understand and thus more useful to me.
I've owned my copy of the book for about 5 years. I read the TTC in its entirety right away when I purchased it. Over the years, through my journey of life, I have returned to the book particularly during transitions or times of distress. Regardless of the situation, each time I drew new and insightful meaning from its passages
I purchased the book with the intent of it being a guide and I feel that it has been just that.
No other book has ever been so valuable to me.
ok conditions.......2005-09-14
the book was in ok conditions, i have bought used books in better conditions, but i can't really complaint because is good enough to read it just fine.
It takes time.......2005-04-10
The Hua Hu Ching portion of the book is self explanatory. The Tao Teh Ching can be read and applied at any level. If you are truly looking for some assistance then I recommend 8000 Years of Wisdom, books 1 and 2, by Master Ni. Each chapter of the Tao Teh Ching is read and then expanded upon by Master Ni, with questions from students. Some people will like this and some will not. What is important, is to find what works for YOU and aligns with YOU.
