Trinidad Pineda Chiñas from Oaxaca, Mexico learned at an early age that he was gifted, not with beauty or physical strength, but with willpower, the force of the spoken word and a constant eagerness for knowledge. The story of his life is a journey that starts with the whistle of a train, one that will take him to places he never imagined, where he will acquire infinite knowledge. It is also the place in which TrinidadÂ’s ardent speech to his railroad brothers resulted in a fight that would upturn a country and a regime.

Solid Romance.......2007-07-27
I mostly liked this book. The romance was very tender & sweet, sex scenes were OK without going over the top, characters were pretty well-developed & likable. Reasons for not getting five stars: Language is too clunky & unbelievable, couple of situations that occur are too coincidental and once again unbelievable, the bad guy is too over-the-top and has a last minute remorse that is pretty dumb, and the woman (I've already forgotten her name!) puts up with a lot of crap from the hero in situations where I'd be whacking him with the nearest object. Otherwise, I'd recommend it--you have to be willing to put up with a lot of silliness when you read this genre of book.
You must picture an Englishman turn cowboy in this one.......2006-05-10
This was my first time to read Lorraine Heath. This story was pretty good. At times, it was easy for me to put this one down and come back later. I plan on reading "Always to Remember" by Heath next. I've been told it's her best. Happy reading.
Great book!.......2005-08-11
I loved this book and was surprised I did - the title is sort of silly but I really loved the book! Great writing and interesting story -
Check out - Blind Spot - Romantic Suspense with environmental theme
Almost didn't buy this. So glad I did!.......2004-07-04
"Never love a cowboy" sounds like a fairly standard western so it didn't "grab me". But I have read Heath's other books and she is an excellent author. My attention kept coming back to this one and the idea of the British cowboy sounded cute and different so I did buy it for a "quick, easy read". Wow. The title certainly does not do this book justice. It is so much more than a typical western. The plot is very different but the characters are living, touchable people. You feel their joy and pain. The dialogue is incredible. You laugh and you cry. Jessye is one of the most delightful heroines I've ever read. She is so full of ......and vinegar. She tickles your funny bone or at least mine!
After one of Harry's pouty 3 day silences, he says to Jess.."I've been thinking..." To which she says.."That why you've been so quiet. You can't think and talk at the same time!"
..Harry asks why Jess has been quiet and she says "haven't been in the company of anyone I thought was worth talking to!!". Now anyway who has ever had a relationship wishes she had said those things to her guy!!...The early part of this book is just plain fun. The second part is serious business with emotional angst. It tests the mettle of our characters and forunately they meet the test with flying colors. Just a wonderful book.
omg.......2004-05-29
The other reviews outline the plot pretty well, so let me just say, this book is awesome. I have pretty high standards and I find myself disappointed more often than not by what other people rate as five star books. This however has the flawed (emotionally and, later, physically) hero, the less-than-perfect heroine, and a good plot. Within a week of buying it, I had read it three times. the only two romance novels I have ever read that were better were Echoes in the Dark, by Gayle Wilson, and The Horseman's Bride, by Marilyn Pappano. And I've read a lot of romance novels.

Book Description
She thought she knew about love....
After six years at a Philadelphia finishing school, former tomboy Emma Malloy was coming home to Whisper Valley, Montana, a sophisticated lady. Little did she know that the decades-old feud between the Malloys and the Garrettsons had escalated into a full-scale range war. Nor did she expect that her archenemy, Tucker Garrettson, whose stolen kiss she still couldn't forget, had become a rugged, handsomer-than-sin cowboy who wanted to hang her father and take her prisoner--in his arms.
He vowed to teach her about desire....
She was proud, beautiful, and bossy. And even though Emma was a Malloy, Tucker wanted her badly. Here they were caught in a blood feud and all he wanted to do was take her once and get her out of his mind. No man could outgun him, but could this infuriating beauty make him surrender his freedom and believe in love?

A Very Unique Read.......2005-03-20
Wow, this was only my second romance novel. My first was Moonlight Obsession by the same author. This one was very true to the old western time period, and was told so good I had a flawless movie running through my mind as my eyes clung to every word! There is someone everybody can relate to in this book, and its not the classic sappy kind with the drawn half-naked people groping eachother on the cover! Jill mixed in murder with pleasure, scandals and old fashioned family pride. Very much like the wild west version of Romeo and Juliet, except with a smarter, fistier Juliet in the lead! I'd recommend this book to anyone, I really enjoyed reading it, and that is saying a lot because I usually can't sit long enough to finish a book. I know you'll love it!!
A Must Have.......2001-01-31
This was the first Jill Gregory book that I read, it was wonderful, exceptional and very romantic. After reading this book I decided to get other books by her. I highly recommended it!!!!
Not bad..........2000-05-02
This book started out VERY formula (i.e. hero and heroine really hate each other). In fact, if I read one more "Damn you, Garretson!" "Damn you Malloy!" I was going to slap the both of them upside the head! But then the story got better...much better. The characters started becoming more 3 dimensional and had some good sides, not just bad. And Emma and Tucker's physical attraction to each other! Wowee! Like magnets - the two of them. The whodunit mystery was very well done, too. I thought I had the villain figured out from the beginning but I was wrong! So all in all - worth reading. Good, likable characters (once you got through that opening section) and a pretty fast enjoyable read. P.S. A small aside: the inside cover art of Emma and Tucker was dead-on accurate. Loved it!
What a WONDERFUL story!.......1998-09-29
This was the first book I have read from Jill Gregory. Once I started I found that I just couldn't put it down! The loyalty and love for family that both Emma and Tucker showed was great! You fall in love with both Emma and Tucker, and just when you think everything is going to be okay, there is deception and betrayal. You find yourself hoping and praying they will see the truth and find their way to each other where they belong! It is a Great book! DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!!!

A knight in Shining Armor!!.......2007-06-18
I absolutley loved this book, I have read it three times now. Kit agree's to marry his friends dying sister, Ashton. Before she died she wanted to experience love and marriage. Especially with Kit. Kit agree's and he treats her like a queen, taking care of all of her needs. Kit helped her experience everything you would feel when you are in love. I loved the way he treated her, very sweet, caring, romantic. This is just a great love story and I recommend it to anyone who loves romance. I will keep this book and read it again and again until I can't read it no more.
Great read!!! Very Romantic!!!.......2007-01-03
I loved this whole series by Lorraine Heath. This book in particular was very touching.
Excellent Writing Could Not Save This Book.......2004-03-25
The plot in this book was pathetic, and even the author's excellent writing could not save it. The event to bring the lead characters together was a fake wedding. The premise is the heroine is dying and her wish before she dies is to have a wedding ceremony. WHO WANTS TO HAVE A FAKE WEDDING???? I could have believed that she would wish for a temporary marriage, a night of passion, a party held in her honor, etc... But I cannot believe that anyone would want just a wedding ceremony as their dying wish. The hero (who apparently works for the Make A Wish Foundation) grants her dying wish.
My second big problem with the book is the heroine's treatment of the hero. She rejects him when she learns of his deep, dark secret. The secret was nothing terrible, so it was difficult for me to believe that anyone would be horrified by it. I think the hero deserved a lot better than the lame, sickly heroine.
In summary, this book was not believable. Most of it did not make sense to me. I would pass on this one.
I'M IN LOVE WITH KIT.......2003-10-17
LORRAINE REALY DID IT THIS TIME! I HAVE FALLEN MADDLY IN LOVE WITH THIS MAN. I CRIED. I LAUGHED, I LOVE IT , MORE PLEASE MORE.
Never Marry a Cowboy.......2002-11-06
Since I'm a Texan I love all of Ms. Heath's cowboy books. This is a very moving romantic novel. He marries his best friend's sister because he is told she is dying. He is a man with a said past. He loved his brother's wife very much and she died. He blames himself. So he attempts to make up for some of it by tenderly caring for his wife. He tries to make her last days happy. I won't tell the ending but there are times you could cry for both the hero and heroine. They are so vunerable.

DO YOU HAVE A SECRET FANTASY?.......2006-09-16
FROM THE BACK COVER:
America's sweetheart Josie Eastman does. An Olympic skating star, she's always been a role model, always done what she was told. And she's sick of it. So she dumps everyting and jumps straight into the arms of the baddest cowboy she can find.
Travis McKinnon teaches her to ride a horse-she loves it. To milk a goat-what fun. To muck out a chicken coop-she even things that's a novelty! And when the handsome rancher teaches her all he knows about loving, she's ready to become a fulltime cowgirl.
But Travis thinks she's a spoiled city girl playing out a silly fantasy. How can Josie convince him that she wants this fantasy to last a lifetime?
Not a bad story, there was a little bit more to it than boy meets girl and falls in love.

The Silver Metal Lover is a classic tale of transforming love. It's a keeper, a book that gets reread 'til it falls apart. Fans petitioned to get it reprinted, and after 10 years of waiting, here it is. Oddly, the book is seldom mentioned when Tanith Lee's work is discussed, perhaps because Lee's usual milieu is horror, and The Silver Metal Lover is a poignant romance requiring at least two hankies before the end.
Robots have replaced human labor on earth, causing massive unemployment in a world devastated by pollution and natural disasters. Then Electronic Metals releases a new line: performing artists and sexual companions designed to entertain human partners. Jane, a rich, lonely, and insecure 16-year-old, meets one, the minstrel Silver, and falls passionately in love, despite revulsion at the idea of preferring a mechanical man to a human. She gives up everything she has known for him, and discovers herself. Silver becomes more and more "human" in loving her--a clever illusion created by his programming. Or is it? This unstable society can't afford any evidence that some robots might be indistinguishable from humans. Tragedy is inevitable. Read it and weep--and don't forget to put it on the keeper shelf. --Nona Vero
Book Description
Love is made of more than mere flesh and blood....
Tanith Lee is one of the most thought-provoking and imaginative authors of our time. In this unforgettably poignant novel, Lee has created a classic tale--a beautiful, tragic, erotic, and ultimately triumphant love story of the future.
For sixteen-year-old Jane, life is a mystery she despairs of ever mastering. She and her friends are the idle, pampered children of the privileged class, living in luxury on an Earth remade by natural disaster. Until Jane's life is changed forever by a chance encounter with a robot minstrel with auburn hair and silver skin, whose songs ignite in her a desperate and inexplicable passion.
Jane is certain that Silver is more than just a machine built to please. And she will give up everything to prove it. So she escapes into the city's violent, decaying slums to embrace a love bordering on madness. Or is it something more? Has Jane glimpsed in Silver something no one else has dared to see--not even the robot or his creators? A love so perfect it must be destroyed, for no human could ever compete?

Well Written Adolescent Drama.......2007-03-30
Nothing intellectual here. Just a good heartbreaking story that takes you back to your youth.
The characters are well developed and storyline is engaging.
A touching and brilliant story.......2007-03-24
You can't get much better than this, you'll read a lot of great reviews pumping this up but in my opinion it's definitely worth it. The story is very sweet without being saccharine, and it is one of those rare books that have really touched me deep in my heart. Tanith Lee is a wonderful author but her writing seems to have more of a cult fan base, this book is probably one of the most popular she has put out. If you're curious about her than it would be a great first book to begin with, and a lighter read than some of her others. You don't have to be a sci-fi or romance fan to like it either, it's set in a futuristic setting but it's not far out of reach of our own world and the romantic aspect of it is very real and not lewd in anyway. Not much else I can write except at least go down to your library and look for it, most likely you will find a very enjoyable read.
A Big 10 On My List!.......2007-02-24
This atypical love story will touch your heart and the story will stay with you forever. You will want to read this over and over again. Occurring in the future, EC has created a set of better than human robots and one is created with a little something extra. Jane, a sixteen year old rich girl, meets and falls in love with him. Jane mortgages all she owns, or rather all her mother has given her to buy her lover, Silver. They exist outside of the law by singing for coins. Silver creates a haven for Jane, a rainbow striped rug, whale in the tub and other fantastic murals. After all he can do anything, he is a robot. Silver gradually becomes more and more human as the story goes along. Silver and Jane's love story is a real tear jerker and the ending is very sad, or is it? Depends on if you believe in reincarnation or not.
Insightful and moving.......2006-09-24
I don't know how I managed to miss this book for all these years. Maybe I ignored it because it is advertised as a SF romance, but in truth that is such a small part of a book that carries such a strong and meaningful message. Every review I've read seems to say "for some unknown reason" Jane falls in love with a robot. Perhaps they were so focused on the love story they missed the main point of the book. People, or at least the people in Jane's life, are unworthy of love. They are manipulative, cruel, selfish, jealous and deceiving. Even her truest friend, Clovis, was motivated to do good things only if the act would give him some pleasure as well.
In a world filled with that kind of narsacism what choice did a kind person like Jane have. There was no human deserving of her love or capable of returning it. So when she met a robot, programmed for truth and kindness, he was like a dream to her. He would never lie, cheat, or trick her. His sole purpose in life was to make her happy. And when he failed he did not leave her, he tried again. It is a relationship most people dream of having but never will. At least not with a person. (My dog's a lot like that.)
Transcendent.......2006-07-22
What you look for in a book: complex characters, fascinating locale, the struggles of real love. Completely transports the reader to another world. She's no futurist - it's not Philip K. Dick territory, but rather a fabulous tragic love story. Not for younger readers, due to the tragic sadness of it.

The Best Book I've Read On The Topic of God's Love For Me.......2007-08-14
I've enjoyed a meaningful relationship with God for 37 years, and have read extensively on the topic of God's love for individual people. This is definitely the best, most specific, and down-to-earth book I've read on this topic. It has impacted my life and how I view God. It's very freeing indeed.
He Loves Me! The Relationship God Has Always Wanted with You.......2005-09-21
This book has made a huge difference in my life, and as a result I have not only purchased it for another person, but recommended it to several other people.
Do Yourself a Favor and Read This Book.......2000-07-07
Excellent insight. A logical, biblical foundation for a new framework for understanding God's intended relationship with His children. Love, rather than fear. Even if you don't consider your relationship with God to be based on fear or "appeasement" (I didn't either), this book will challenge you to reassess many of the traditions and approaches that dominate many in the Evangelical Christian Church. However, the book is not written from a critical point of view. A freeing book. Approach with an open mind. This book is having a strong, positive impact on my life. I have recommended it highly to several friends.
