Beautiful glass with a major omission........2000-08-22
Fine pictures with solid historical copy. I would rate "The Art of Glass" five stars if it were't for the exclusion of the glass of Frederick Carder, not only a major contributor to the genre, but designer/maker of some of the most beautiful glass objects of any period ever made.

If you can't find a design you can use for inspiration, you're just not looking hard enough. Not for beginners since the designs are incredibly intricate, but your creativity will wake up and take notice.
Super source book.......2004-06-05
Originally, this was a pair of portfolios of designs in the Art Nouveau period. Art Nouveau was not just twisty flowers, though some people like to stereotype it into those narrow parameters. This is not a how-to book with cutting patterns. It has only the paintings with suggested scale. On a few pages, motifs overlap each other, so you can't just scan and go: you have to build up your idea of the covered areas. One pictorial arched piece is missing the right third, again a challenge to finish it yourself.
The designs range from splendidly romantic conceptions of floral forms to windows a-scamper with squirrels or lizards to some that are distinctly eerie. Bats fly across the moon amidst dead trees. A woman combs her hair before a volcano flowing lava. An octopus and a sea-weed maiden struggle underwater--in combat? in love? Several have fishes and there are even cat designs.
You don't have to see these only as windows. I've converted two to rug designs by taking out the excess black lines of supports or piecing necessary to glass work. You may want to take only one area out of an entire design to render in wood, or do a mosaic version of the whole thing. This is a starting point for the competent craftsman who loves the Art Nouveau energy, not an end product.
Not really Art Nouveau.......2003-02-18
Though some of the designs are nice, most are way too busy for my taste, and I wouldn't really call them Art Nouveau. Quite a few of them look more like Renaissance style stained glass, and some of them look modern (like the sailboat patterns?). It is in color, though, which is nice. Very complicated - definately not for beginning stained glass crafters.

There are lovely stained glass ideas in this book, but... to use as a coloring exercise, you need to know that you really have to have felt tip pens to make the colours show up. There is a lot of black surrounding the designs and the "transparent" colouring areas are a light gray which cuts down on the brilliancy of any colouring.
Great idea book.......2000-12-29
As a stained glass artist, this book got my creative juices flowing. The pictures are fairly complex, just like the stained glass of the 1920's era, and made me wish I had crayons or markers that could duplicate the textured, swirled, multicolored glass that was used during this time! It's a great starting point for people who'd like to take on more complex glass projects and who want to experiment with color combinations befhorehand.

Receiving kudos for Clarice.......2007-03-28
As a collector of Clarice Cliff, I read almost anything relating to her. Clarice was way ahead of her time. She was an uneducated British girl in the 1920's who through hard work and brilliant ideas became a pioneer in art deco ceramics. Leonard Griffin is a master scholar of Clarice and this book was another one of his carefully reviewed study of her work.
Identifying her teaware as a celebration is absolutely true. Almost 80 years later, her work is more collectible than ever and it is fascinating to read how she evolved her designs and manufacturing ideas into the most beautiful teaware.

I own 8 Dilbert books I would say that this is my favorite. This book represents the best of Dilbert and has some of the most hilarious cartoons I have read. I would definitely recommend getting this.
The Way Dilbert Should Be.......2004-05-28
I've grown up with Dilbert and belive me when I say this stuff is great. My favorite character is definetly Wally because he's so lazy. The Dlibert books are great and they always make me laugh. I have 11 Dilbert books and I really can't say I dislike any of them. A great deal for you money and one of the best Dilbert books.

What can I say? It's a Dilbert book; if you like Dilbert, you'll like it. If you don't, you won't. It isn't the best Dilbert book out there, but it's not the worst, either. (And of course, for those of us who like it, even the worst Dilbert book is worth reading.) It's good, chuckle-producing fun, but not rolling-on-the-floor laughing fun.
A Good Laugh, Though Limited!.......2001-11-06
Like all the Dilbert cartoons this book gives many chuckles at office humor with Dilbert, the HR boss and the usual gang. But, as a reader, who has also experienced such workplace environments, I have one critical point to make: there is far more to company work-life than bickering between an HR boss and cubicle employees...though that too happens! But, if you'd like to read a hilarious take on management at ALL levels from sly CEOs to dimwitted technical managers and see their bungling, obstructive and selfish interactions with R&D technical staff, then I recommend the true-to-real-life stories in the satirical book, "MANAGEMENT BY VICE". With sharp wit, short fun verses and humorous illustrations, Management by Vice describes situations that are fast-paced with characters, who stand up for themselves and speak out. Company politics, ignorance, incompetence, idea-pilfering etc., described in Management by Vice, cover a far broader company work-spectrum. It is also much more candid and true-to-life than anything in the entire limited office-setting Dilbert series. Believe me, I've seen it and apparently so has the author, C.B. Don! So, for a truly good laugh and a complete picture of company life, do try both books and you'll be reading the very best in business humor!

I know people who arn't too happy with this book becuase of its size. I'll agree that it's tiny but it does a good job of highlighting the main character's twisted personality. I think it makes a great gift for anyone who works in H.R. or is just a fan of catbert.

Hardcover - 80 pages.
Well, that's 22 pages, so 44 sides, not 80 pages! And Europeans don't know what inches are about... The size is 10 by 8 centimeters, that's a small book with less pages; nevertheless the few comics are funny, but talking about misconduct...
