Book Description
When Keitaro Urashima fails his entrance exams to get into Tokyo University for the second time, he's officially an unemployed and uneducated slacker. To make things worse, his parents have kicked him out of his house. Fortunately, his grandmother owns the fabulous Hinata Lodge and has agreed to take Keitaro in as caretaker. What he doesn't know is that the lodge is actually a girl's dorm and he's the only guy around! Most guys would kill to live with five sexy ladies, but if Keitaro's not careful, this job will kill him.
Customer Reviews:
I'd like to go 3 1/2.......2007-09-29
This was better that the first Love Hina novel. I didn't care for the Mecha-Keitaro story, but the body switching story was great. I would love to see that animated. Motoko has always been a favorite of mine because of the conflict between her perception of who she wants to be and her femininity. And Kitsune never really gets a good story about her. I would really like to see a one-shot manga or novel focusing just on those two characters separately. In summary, much happier with this one than the last one, but the first story dragged down the rating.
Guilty pleasure.......2007-09-22
Fun and frothy, a great guilty pleasure. Yes, the books are a little repetitive, and no, it's not War and Peace but it's funny and entertaining and the characters are very likable. It's a little on the racy side as well. Love Hina is a good time and lots of fun. I heart Tama-chan!
an awsome book........2007-09-11
this was a great book. it was a comedy with a little romance in it, and i happen to love those kind of genres. it all about a college student who lives in an all girls dorm. he's trying to find his childhood sweetheart so they can go to Tokyo U together.his grades are pathetic, his the girls are at the dorm are all psychos, and he keep getting into situations that make him look like a perv. way to go Keitaro!
where it all began..........2007-07-22
Imagine yourself as a 20-year old who just can't seem to pass the college entrance exams. You've already failed them twice (but as some consolance, you're trying to get into the toughest college in all Japan, Todai [Tokyo U]) and don't know what to do next. Well then, you must be Keitaro Urashima, the hero of Love Hina. Love Hina, by manga maestro Ken Akamatsu, is as silly as it is heart-warming, and fan-service addicts will find Love Hina quite to their liking.
Main character Keitaro Urashima, as stated above, has been trying to get into Tokyo U for two years now, but hasn't had much luck. His parents finally get tired of him mooching off them and send him off to work at his grandmothers inn, until he can pass the Todai entrance exams. What Keitaro doesn't know, however, is that when his grandmother left on a year-long trip around the world, she left the inn in the care of Keitaro's aunt, who turned it into an all-girls' dorm!!! Keitaro ends up walking in on Shinobu as she's taking a bath, and proceeds to peek in on all the other inhabitants of the dorm, albeit accidentally!! Keitaro's saved by his aunt Haruka, and when Haruka says that he would be staying at the dorm, there's outrage from all the inhabitants. Thing is, though, even though Shinobu hates Keitaro's guts at the beginning of the volume, by the middle she's (inexplicably) head over heels in love with him!!!
Keitaro soon realizes he has to deal with MUCH more than he bargained for in terms of the dorm tenants. There's Naru Narusegawa, a bookish student who's also trying to get into Tokyo U- and she's got the highest grades in the nation on the practice entrance exam!!! There's Shinobu Maehara, the youngest, quiet but sweet- and a very good cook. Then you have Mitsune Konno (nickname Kitsune, a combination of her first and last names), the resident alcoholic and an uncontrollable flirt- especially when it comes to Keitaro!!! The remaining two tenants are Motoko Aoyama, a swordswoman who's a bit lacking when it comes down to what a girl should be doing (i.e. a SEVERE tomboy), and Kaolla Su, a foreign exchange student with a sweet tooth that can't be satisfied, especially when it comes to bananas!!!
After a brief incident where Keitaro lies and says that he actually did get into Tokyo U (and everyone finding out and unanimously kicking him out of the dorm), they wise up after Shinobu runs out to find him. Keitaro redeems himself in their eyes by (somehow) finding out that that day was Shinobu's 13th birthday (which everyone else seemed to have forgotten) and planning a surprise party for her... but he still manages to mess it up for Shinobu by sliding in a pair of her panties (that Keitaro accidentally picked up as he got the laundry to fold) under his gift to her, sending her running in tears and causing Naru to punch him into the air... again... Seems like poor Keitaro's in a bit over his head!!
Love Hina is one of many in a long line of harem mangas/animes (i.e. a geeky or otherwise socially awkward guy gets put into a situation where he's surrounded by a bunch of really good-looking girls), and yet Love Hina just seems to work out alot better than many of the others that I've read. Maybe it's cause Keitaro's just so likable, I don't know. I do know this, though: there is a LOT of fan service in this and the proceeding volumes, mainly through naked shots in the dorm's bathing area, although there's a good number of panels with Keitaro accidentally tripping and falling... and grabbing places that shouldn't be grabbed.
Which brings me to my next and final point. One scene in particular you'll see throughout Love Hina is Naru punching Keitaro high into the air whenever he does or says something pervy (which, believe me, is quite alot of times, as Keitaro has a VERY dirty mind and is not afraid in the least bit to show it)- and one can only wonder just how she does it. I end with this: Love Hina is one of the greatest mangas ever made, actually my second all-time fav. It has something in it for everyone. And did I mention it's funny? Cause it is.
Enjoy!!
Christmas revelations.......2007-06-17
Vol. 6 of Love Hina marks the return of Mutsumi, the girl Naru and Keitaro met on their travels during volume 3. As Mutsumi establishes herself in the Hinata household so she can work towards the Tokyo U exam, she and Keitaro start to grow closer. And by the cliffhanger end of volume 6, Naru discovers a revelation that could mean Mutsumi is Keitaro's long lost "promise girl."
For my money, this volume is the climax of the love triangle aspects of the Love Hina series. In fact, a similar scene was played as such in the anime, and it works just as effectively here despite this being the less-than halfway point of the series. Did Ken Akamatsu plan on finishing the series early at one point? Who knows, but while he does come up with several fresh and intriguing plot threads down the line, none match the emotional angst found here. Next to Naru, Mutsumi has always been the only other serious contender for Keitaro's affections. And with her habit of randomly kissing people, who knows what the next volume will bring?
An important volume of Love Hina. Don't miss it.

Book Description
Keitaro Urashima is the only boy living in Hinata Lodge, an all-girl dorm. Despite the fact that he's kind of a screw-up, the competition to hook up with him is fierce, and hilarious cat-fights ensue. An already tumultuous living situation escalates to an uproar when Keitaro and the girls get the news that their home will transform into a commercial inn, with strangers from outside their school as guests!
Customer Reviews:
OK I guess.......2007-09-01
This reads more like a fan fiction piece than anything from the series. Not a lot of art and almost none of it original. If you don't read it, you're not really missing much. It was OK more or less.
More of the same.......2007-06-08
Love Hina: the novel is just more of the same. No closure, nobody dies, nobody leaves, nobody has anything major happen to them. Just more punching, more yelling, more misunderstanding, more ghosts, so on. You get the drill. The book is split into two parts, but both really do deal with the same thing, the idea that there is a treature in the annex of the house. While we do find out the mystery of the old annex, the whole idea and plot just isn't worth wasting a whole novel on it. Also, with only 250 pages, and with large print, many of the characters really don't get to do much but say one liners. We mostly see things from Keitaro Urashima's point of view and, while it does show just how much of a idiot he is, it does get kind of boring.
Love Hina: The Novel Version.......2006-05-20
New Stories from the World of Love Hina!!!!
First the residents find out that there is a secret treasure hidden somewhere on the grounds, and the key to finding it may be hidden somewhere on Keitaro's body!
Next, Grandma Hinata desides to reopen the inn for a few days to accomidate some old clients, but some of them may be more than they apear to be. Join the old gang on another hillarious adventure as they explore the secrets of the old abandoned Annex!!
Overall, I give it a 6 out of 10. Its not as good as the origional series, but its still holds its old flair and carries its origional style. I would recommend giving it a read, but to fans of the old series...don't get your hopes too high!!
It follows stories that are not in the manga series, and is hard to tell where in the series it takes place. Its pretty easy to read, and has a total of 250 pages, but has a level of perversion that keeps reader levels at ages 17+
On the upside, there are lots of Naru Punches, Sword attacks, wacky inventions, and much, much more!
Note: It was written by the Scriptwritter for the animated series, Kurou Hazuki, with help by Ken Akamatsu.

Book Description
The hilarious account of one woman's marriage and divorceBig Easy- style
Set against the colorful backdrop of New Orleans, SOUTHERN FRIED DIVORCE raucously recounts the author's divorce from "That X"a classic bad boyand the unpredictable roles he plays in her life afterward. The book opens with his showing up on her doorstep, in mid-Spring, covered in red and green ribbon, smelling of Jim Beam, and bearing a belated Christmas gifta home security package in the form of a .38 revolver and a brown puppy. After wondering what kind of ex-husband gives his wife a gun, she gives the puppy back and the adventures with that ex-husband and the brown dog, who are soon inseparable, begin.
The hilarious vignettes that ensue include: the rules to Redneck Roulette; post-divorce sex ("Smurfing"); a divorce settlement that includes a bar tab for life; how to teach a dog to drive a Cadillac; getting mugged with her own cutlery; wearing a keg into a football game; instructions on how to cook the best Christmas roast south of the Mason-Dixon line and other fine Southern recipes; and the antics of her infamous ex and the brown dogtwo cohorts mythic and so inseparable they performed naked synchronized swimming together at the 1984 World's Fair. Conner weaves together a one-of-a-kind love story that exposes the humility of all human relationships, and shows that the end of marriage is not the end of love.
Customer Reviews:
Humor and Feeling.......2006-06-11
This memoir of a bizarre marriage is both touching and hilarious, and the book offers a wonderful glimpse of pre-Katrina New Orleans at its rowdy best. A great read!
Southern Fried Divorce delivers........2005-09-20
Judy Palmer Conner has a delightfully wicked sense of humor that keeps you laughing as you devour every page of her book, Southern Fried Divorce. She has the ability to capture the true spirit of the most unique of all Southern cities, New Orleans, and proves that love doesn't necessarily end with divorce. Judy's tales of her escapades with "that ex" and the brown dog are hilarious. You will find yourself reading her book again and again, and anxiously awaiting her next volume of "brown dog" tales.
Didn't want it to end.......2005-09-19
There are good books, there are great books, and then there are books that you just don't want to end. Southern Fried Divorce is one you just don't want to end. I have probably read this book 10 times and I laugh and cry with the same intensity every time. Judy Conner's first book is a total smash hit. I have a few books that I never get rid of and this is one of them. She is funny, down to earth, and proves, once again, that love is not always enough to keep two people together.
Loved it!.......2005-08-31
I read this book before I read the Sweet Potato Queen's first book by her sister. Enjoyed both, but Judy's book has it hands down in my estimation. I had to put this line in here because of some of the other reviews I have read. Also, these two gals are so close it is probably hard to tell where the real derivation of the material comes from. At any rate, regarding Southern Fried Divorce, I have read it 3 or 4 times already. There is so much humor here but also so much bittersweet truth. I laughed out loud (snorting was happening here) but I also shed a few real tears as well. This was one of my favorite books in a long time. It is such a quick read, but try to read it slowly. You don't want to miss a word.
Huge let down.......2005-08-24
After reading and listening to all the Sweet Potato Queens books...my expectations for this book of her sisters were very high. Highly disappointing. The woman reading Judys story is horrible. The content very dry in most places and hard to listen to because of it dragging. Would have been better (when listening) if the author would have read it herself. There would have been an authenticity to it. Did not find it funny or really entertaining. Would NOT recommend.
