A bold new breed of woman . . . defiant, passionate, beautiful tawny-haired Rosalee challenged the dangers of the rugged Colorado mountains with her courage, her rifle, and her heart. Daring to carve a home from the wilderness for her young sister and brother, she longed for a rough-riding frontiersman strong enough to match her wild spirit without taking away her freedom or her dreams. Pride and prejudice..........2002-03-29
From then on, the two are drawn to each other... and Logan finds the one person in his life that didn't even consider his heritage or the consequences of their romance.
As much as Logan wants to give into the love he has for Rosalee, he doesn't want her to live to resent him, when she is surely shunned by the white people. Rosalee must fight through the stubborness of Logan, and show him he does want to give into his feelings.
In addition, Logan and Rosalee - along with Rosalee's siblings and father, are suddenly facing serious danger by the huge landowner of the town. Logan has his own reasons for taunting this landowner and purchasing the land bordering his, that he so desperately wants for himself. Mr. Clayhill, the landowner, will stop at nothing to get what he wants... and the townspeople simply look away, not wanting to get involved and endanger their own family.
From beginning to end, it's almost impossible to see a way out for Logan and Rosalee... each small victory is overshadowed by a much bigger price. Along the way, they make some unlikely friends... including Cooper Parnell, who will prove to be much more to them by the end.
Rosalee and Logan are wonderful characters, and I loved reading this story. Rosalee Spurlock is sweet and beautiful and loving. Logan Horn is strong and handsome, but emotionally vulnerable under the surface.
I was thrilled to see the next book in this trilogy will be the story of Cooper Parnell.

Covenant Betrayed: Revelations of the Sixties, the Best of Time; the Worst of Time: Book one: The Restless Years. The Winds of Change
Mark Dahl Manufacturer: AuthorHouse ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1420805649 |
Book Description
One can not understand the Sixties without understanding the Fifties. The Fifties were the first time the American youth had excess freedom. Before the 50's they worked on the family farm; dusk till dawn, slaved in the sweat shops, 12 ours a day, six days a week; starved in the depression; and fought not knowing it they would be alive the next day in World War II and the Korean War. Than, suddenly, came the fifties. First there were the beatniks lead by their spiritual leader Williams Burrough, than the "bad boys of rock and roll Elvis, Johnny Cochran, and Jerry Lee Lewis prevailed. This excess freedom, led to freedom to think, freedom to question, freedom to challenge. In the sixties, the peaceful non-violent Civil Rights Movement, progressed to the Black Power and the Black Panthers. The Civil Rights Movement was followed by the creeping involvement in Vietnam, first with military advisors, than massive troop deployments to Vietnam resulting in death, violence, destruction, and . then disillusion. And complementing the war, initially, the educational teach-ins led to massive antiwar demonstrations, to the Weathermen busting windows on Michigan Ave and planting bombs in the Capital. This all digressed to the " second civil war" which recently resurfaced with the Iraq War, I afraid now is progressing to the "third civil war". Throughout the book we follow the characters lives from romantic innocence to reality to Expressionism. Some fighting in Vietnam, some protesting the war, some marching for civil rights, friendships destroyed and than repaired. Some lives lost, some destroyed, some survived, but all caught up in the hubris characterized by a gross failure of governmental leadership. Those betrayed the most have their names on a black granite wall in Washington DC.

?.......2004-03-05
There was a lot of potential in Cherijo dealing with her father. And it is mostly wasted. I can't tell you how disappointing it is to discover that she's not so unique. And soon after getting into the lab, she escapes, and spends a good chunk of time underground. Jules Verne did a great science fiction book about being underground. He was able to pull it off. Most writers since then have realized it's pretty hard to make that interesting.
And, Wow, Ick! I *don't* want to hear about vivid descriptions of rapes and child molestation. I read novels for enjoyment, and enlightenment. Not to be disgusted.
There's a fifth book out there in the series, which reveals the final details about Cherijo's life, beyond what her father did. I'm not going to bother to buy it. At this point, I've been too disappointed, and too bored, by the last two novels. The investment I made in the character in the first two novels doesn't carry me over into any further interest in her.
Cherijo continues her search for who, and what, she is..........2003-12-09
Again, I was a bit disappointed with Shockball, but only because the first two books were so very good. Shockball continues the adventures of Cherijo Grey Veil Torin, a genetically engineered human who is being pursued by her creator/father throughout the galaxy. After escaping the Hsktskt in Endurance, Cherijo finds herself surrendering to her father in order to keep the peace once again, but this time her husband Duncan is with her. After enduring many brutal hours of testing, she is miraculously rescued by an odd little man who takes her though miles of underground tunnels to his tribe that lives beneath the ground in caverns.
Cherijo discovers she is not so much rescued as she is kidnapped by these strange people, half Indian and half alien.
Again, I found this book to be a step down from the first two in the series, there are not many aliens, as Cherijo spends most of her time underground with the half breeds; and not much titillating space travel either.
Dhreen re-enters her life, finding her in the tunnels and once again helping her out, though this time she trusts him much less. She also discovers that experiments A through I were not destroyed as Joseph Grey Veil had told her, and also discovers that the reason Joe has pursued her so heavily throughout the galaxy is that he intended her to be his mate all along.
Cherijo patches up patients, stops another outbreak, and develops her relationship with her husband Duncan who is forced to participate in the Shockball contests and discovers he actually enjoys the physical competition. But the story seemed almost blasé, missing the mystery of the aliens and the excitement Cherijo stretching her capabilities to the fullest.
I have really enjoyed this series, but I am left hoping that the fifth book brings back the old Cherijo and the old mystery and excitement that made this such a special and unique reading journey.

Interesting definitions of "scholarship" and "credible"..........2003-12-06
>...too much reference to God; thereby, losing all scholarly credibility <
I see, so any Thiestic based scholarship is, therefore, uncredible? I suppose we shall have to discard the great body of world (not just Western European - WORLD) thought.
>...one of the reasons a person should forgive is because: "Lest you conclude that we endorse not forgiving, let us strongly state that we believe forgiveness is right because it is part of the godly life taught and lived by Christ." page 14 <
Is it a secret to ANYONE that Minirith-Meyers is a Christian practice? I would think that this is common knowledge by now. The tone of the reviewer is that they are well schooled and knowledgeable however this "little" fact somehow eluded them.
Interesting, when one is questioning another's "credibility".
>What if the reader (such as myself) is NOT a Christian. Then if one does not believe in God or Christ, this line of reasoning is worthless and not convincing to the reader <
Glad to see that you're so open minded! Apparently in the reviewer's mind any thing that is not within the reviwer narrow non-Thiestic secularist world-view is not worth considering. Now that's what I call great scholarship! (not!)
>The book is filled with reference to God and Christ and the Bible; thereby, negating any objective clinical scholarly findings they may pose in this book <
I rest my case. The reviewer would do well to evaluate their narrow and limited enlightenment based modernist world-view. This form of "scholarship" has been tried and proven inadequete for the answers that man has sought since time eternal.
I DO wonder what cave or tower (ivory no doubt in any case) this reviewer has been hiding in. He should try joining us here in the 21st century sometime!
Too Much Reference to God and Christ... Loses Credibility.......2003-01-07
The authors hypothesize, that one of the reasons a person should forgive is because: "Lest you conclude that we endorse not forgiving, let us strongly state that we believe forgiveness is right because it is part of the godly life taught and lived by Christ." page 14
What if the reader (such as myself) is NOT a Christian. Then if one does not believe in God or Christ, this line of reasoning is worthless and not convincing to the reader.
The book is filled with reference to God and Christ and the Bible; thereby, negating any objective clinical scholarly findings they may pose in this book.
This book is a terrible disappointment
Too many words, not enough room to write.......2002-04-19
