Perfect!.......2007-10-04
Okay, to be honest I just bought this book for its title. I mean who could resist putting this one out on the coffee table for unsuspecting guests to notice. But once I got the book I read it in one sitting and found it hilarious! Now I am hooked on this author. If you like bizarre stuff and are willing to take a chance on something new, give this book a try.
Short? Yes.. but still ENTERTAINING.......2007-08-05
Some reviewers are complaining because they feel like they wasted their money on such a short work. I can understand this. However, this work is really a novella (short novel) and can be read very quickly. That does NOT take a way from it's entertainment value. Also, you can actually read this in the BIZARRO STARTER KIT along with loads of other novellas and stories by other authors.
First, the book has a great twist on cloning. Is it going to offend religious people? Sure, but who cares? You have to challenge your beliefs sometimes. If you get angry at someone attacking your religion (or religious figure) than you have an unstable outlook on things.
Second, there are so many great images that the author creates. It's like a mental comic book.
Third, it's fast paced.. which is probably why some are complaining about how fast they have read it. So what it's 90 pages? Would you rather the author pad another 100 pages of fluff just to make it "worth your money". Stop thinking about QUANTITY and start thinking about QUALITY. I've read plenty of long novels that could have been cut down. I'd rather read a short, sweet to-the-point story than a long-winded one.
Anyway, this is a great warped, bizarro sci-fi tale. A fairy-tale for absurdist punks. It's the type of book you want to read again.
Wow........2007-03-10
This may be the first book I have actually caught myself giggling like schoolgirl whilst reading. Mellick has an uncanny knack of making the uncommon seem commonplace in his world of demented sexual deviance. Definitely a quick read to bring the all-too-adult soul back to a state of teenage gaiety.
Just don't let mom catch you reading it ;-).
Zombies, butt plugs, clones, and a demonic Baby Jesus. .......2007-01-30
This book is very short but it is also very good. It is about a couple who purchase a clone of Baby Jesus and use it as a butt plug. Sounds like it is going to be shock humor, doesn't it? Well, that's not true. I can understand why some readers were disappointed with this book because it isn't full of shock humor. It is actually a futuristic horror story about a clone of Baby Jesus that becomes demonic and raises the dead. The narrator and a group of clones of himself battle the zombies and the demonic Baby Jesus in order to save his wife. It is very weird, but also really cool. Plus there is a lot of commentary about mainstream culture in this book, so it's not just weird for the sake of weird. I recommend checking it out. It's definitely worth the cover price.
Don't let the title scare you away..........2007-01-26
There are those that are quoted as saying that Mellick's work is a blended smoothie of David Cronenberg, William Burroughs, J.G. Ballard, Philip K. Dick, and George Romero - while this is true, I believe they are leaving the strongest of visionaries out of this sentence - let us not forget Terry Gilliam. As I read this story, unable to put it down in one sitting, I kept seeing Gilliam's animation, his voraciousness for the absurd, and his satire towards the Corporate-nature of our world bleed in front of my eyes, but with an original twist. I don't want to take any credit away from Mellick, but as you read this story, you see for yourself who his influences are and what he believes about the typical family dynamic.
Before you "ewwww" just the title of this story, I ask you (any reader out there) to take a brief moment and actually look inside the book. The price is simple, the text is short, but the imagination that Mellick announces is both stylish and disgusting (but in a GREAT way). We begin with a couple looking to adopt a child, a baby Jesus child, in which they take home to use inappropriately. It is due to their misconduct with this child that bizarre events begin to take place - to explain them on this site would surely destroy my ability to ever write a review again. Needless to say, Mellick takes you from pleasure to pain, to hell and back, and suddenly pushes you from the edge of insanity (sanity is something you will never encounter in this "fairy tale"). He takes us out of our comfort zone and element, yet surprisingly gives us something we can attach ourselves too (please, don't let the title confuse you). What I loved about this story was that with every turn of the page, Mellick gave you another reason to say "whoa" or "yipes". He is not afraid to push the envelope and serve in front of his readers a plate of un-political creativeness. Those things that we are afraid to talk about except behind closed doors, Mellick brings to the front of the line, and in this story demonstrates his ability to cohesively juggle all of these elements together.
Sure, this book is not for everyone - children especially - but with Mellick's title, I believe that is already defined, and for those that "nay-say" this small novella because of the insensitive nature of the characters, well, I believe that you are missing the point. This book will invite you to read again, to devour the small chapters (my personal favorite is when our anti-hero is climbing the elevator - the way Mellick describes the different floors sent shivers down my spine), and see how humanity can corrupt even the purest of entities. This reminded me of a demented Mad-Libs created by Lloyd Kaufman and the TROMA team. While I didn't find myself laughing around every corner of this story, I did find entertainment, a need to suggest this book to those mature enough to laugh, think, and see stories for what they are meant to be ... entertainment.
Overall, this was my first expedition into the world of Mr. Mellick and I must say I was impressed. This is not a author that I could consume every hour on the hour, but in a world where most authors are attempting to make sure they appeal to everyone in the audience, Mellick proudly uses every technique imaginable to have the audience in shock or disgust by the end. He reminds me of a scatter-brained Chuck Palahniuk. I would love to be present to see the expressions on the faces of the audience if Mellick were to unsuspectingly read this story aloud. Ahh, it gives me something to look forward to! Again, I would suggest this story to those with open minds and fantastical imaginations.

Historical Fort Worth Romance Novel - 2nd book in the Bad Luck Wedding Series.......2006-12-13
The Bad Luck Wedding Cake by Geralyn Dawson is a historical Texas romance novel. Claire Donovan moved to Fort Worth after leaving her finacee at the alter. She opens a bakery with a special ingredient called Magic. Tye McBride is caring for his twin brother's children and is living above the bakery. He meets Claire and feels the magic in her baking is aphrodisiac. He tries to stay away from Claire and her baking but fate throws them together. This book has many twist and turns and OK read. Check out the whole series; The Bad luck Wedding Dress (1), The Bad Luck Wedding Cake (2), Summer all night (3), Sizzle all day (4) and The bad luck Wedding Night (5).
Wonderful.......1998-11-21
I enjoyed every moment i spent reading it. Refreshing and charming heros
Hilarious and heartwarming.......1998-07-10
In 1880 Fort Worth, Tye McBride is watching his three young nieces, better known as the "McBride Menaces," while his brother and new spouse enjoy a honeymoon. Though he loves his three blessings, Tye has his hands full as they try to match him up with Loretta Davis.
Claire Donovan ran away to escape from a fiancé that she does not want to marry. She rents a small shop from Tye's sibling and opens up a confectionery store that sells "magic" cakes and cookies. When Claire and Tye meet, the attraction is at maximum levels, but neither one is prepared for a relationship. However, with three imps and magic in the air, this couple appears to be destined to be together for at least a lifetime. That is, of course, if they can overcome their own reservations about love.
Geralyn Dawson is the master of light western romances that excite, charm, and make readers laugh all at the same time. Her latest novel, THE BAD LUCK CAKE, is a jocular Americana tale that will be devoured by fans of the sub-genre. The lead couple is an interesting pair, but the trio of mischief-makers steals the show. Like THE WEDDING RAFFLE and THE WEDDING RANSOM, this is a first class reading experience.

Abnett just keeps getting better........2006-05-29
As with the previous three Gaunt's Ghosts books, this one is action-packed and contains very well-defined characters. The Ghosts from the previous books continue to be fleshed out and the relationships between the soldiers continue to mature. In this book, Abnett focuses a much greater proportion of the fighting on tank battles, which made for extremely exciting and visual scenes and kept me going to Forgeworld to check out the designs of the various units. Another aspect of this book that stands out is the revealing of weakness within Gaunt himself, getting stuck in a rather dark and depressive mood through much of the book.
The main plot of the book revolves around what most of the Ghosts feel is their last campaign under Gaunt. Seemingly sent on a suicidal mission after loosing favor with his bosses, Gaunt finds himself in a desperate fight to attain a goal that he is unsure about. Reverence and dedication to the ideals of Saint Sabbot is stressed in this book and a lot of history behind the Sabbot Worlds Crusade is revealed. The last half of the book is just awesome and I bet most people read it all in one sitting.
Highly reccomended
You don't have to be a 40k fan to appreciate these books........2006-05-25
I'm typically not much of a reader but I must say, after having picked this up on a whim, Dan has me hooked. Any fan of sci-fi and/or military themed books should not hesitate to check this series out. Prior knowledge of the 40k universe isn't necessarilly required but after reading a bit you may find yourself compelled to look more into the mythos of one of the most vivid and well-realised fictional worlds ever created.
Abnett does a wonderful job of depicting the surreal haze of frontline combat while never letting the reader feel lost in it all. His sense of pacing and penchant for pinning down even the most trivial of details serves well to keep the reader interested and involved in what is going on. For a book about war and combat there is a surprising ammount of introspection and character development that really gives his writing the feel of a well-scripted movie rather than just a book about faceless people in some random battle on some generic, far off world.
Read this.. and all the rest of Abnett's books... now!
Abnett continues to impress with this 4th installment..........2004-08-06
With Honour Guard, Dan Abnett continues his Gaunt's Ghosts series with another tightly-written, action-packed war novel. the fourth book in the series, Honour Guard actually is the beginning of the Sabbat Crusade story campaign. The first three novels in the series introduces Colonel-Commissar Ibrahim Gaunt and his Tanith First and Only Regiment.
This time around certain high-ranking elements in the Sabbat Crusade Army has blamed Gaunt and his Ghosts for a battlefield loss that was orchestrated by some behind-the-scenes. Honour Guard is pretty much a story about redemption and spiritual discovery for Gaunt and the troops in his regiment. We actually see Gaunt brought low by outside forces, most of which are actually officers in the Army who are jealous of his sudden rise to power and popularity amongst the regular troops. It was refreshing to know that Gaunt was human after all and not some super-commander who could do no wrong and who could brush off any drawbacks with aplomb.
This time around, Abnett's battle scenes are more centered towards fighting between armored units with infantry in support. Again, Abnett must have good knowledge of military history because the battles leading up to the final stand in the end is very similar to the armor battles which occurred on the roads of the Dutch countryside during the Allies ill-advised Operation Market Garden.
Honour Guard is a worthy successor to the first three Gaunt novels that precedes it. Here's to hoping that Abnett continues is hot streak. I highly recommend.
It wasn't bad.......2004-04-25
It was a good book, but the ending was much too rushed. Another chapter of epilogue would have been great. Only thing I can think is that he knew he would be writing more in the series and didn't think a proper ending was necessary. The tank battles in this book were sweet, but for infantry fighting the Guns of Tanith was a better book.
Deus ex Dei Machina.......2003-04-20
My only complaint is the climax of the story, the point to which the entire novel's plot has been building, takes about a paragraph to resolve. I kept thinking...thats it? Thats all it took? I loved the story up until that point, and the books following were up to the usual standard of great action, well defined characters, and breakneck pacing.

Book Description
The phrase basket-type hilts refers to a large group of hilts which provide a degree of protection to the hand and wrist. Basket-hilted swords have featured prominently among British military edged weapons over the past five centuries, from the Wars of the Roses in the mid fifteenth century to the period immediately after the second Boer War of the early twentieth century. In setting out to give a full account of the hilt type, and the many variants within it, the first necessity has been to provide an appropriate terminology to employ in cataloguing and describing individual examples. The book, well illustrated with 100 black and white illustrations, falls into several parts, dealing successively with general aspects of various hilt types and discussion of typological methodology, the three major groups of basket-hilted swords, the diverse group of incomplete basket hilts, 'mortuary' hilts, and hilts closely related to 'mortuary' hilts. CYRIL MAZANSKY's expertise in British military swords grew out of his interest in aspects of British military history. His large collection of British military swords may be seen at Brown University, donated by the author.

An important contribution.......2006-01-08
I must admit to having rather mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand it is an important catalogue and typology of British basket hilts. The book contains hundreds of clear photographs of basket hilts, often from multiple angles. Many of these hilts can't be seen elsewhere. It also classifies the hilts based on a logical typology. This is certainly a book that deserves a place in the libraries of all sword enthusiasts.
However, the book also has a somewhat surreal quality in the way it focuses on the hilt to the exclusion of the rest of the sword or indeed the sword as an indivisible whole. It's a bit like reading a book about cars which only talks about their bodies, refusing to even acknowledge that they have engines and wheels. Ignoring the blade of a sword is like ignoring the engine of a car, it misses the whole point of the item. A sword is not an art object, it is a specialised tool that only really comes to life in the hand of a skilled swordsman. I have to wonder whether the author has ever fenced? Reading a book about swords by someone who isn't a swordsman is like reading a book about cars by someone who doesn't drive. I was left wondering how someone could know so much about swords and yet not really understand them at all.
So while this book is a very useful tool, it lacks the information necessary to know what (in the absence of being able to personally heft it) the sword was really like, blade length and width, weight, point of balance, centre of percussion etc, all with a picture of the whole sword. As the author of a book on how to fight with the basket hilted sword, I found much of use in this book, but so much more that was missing. One of these days I would like to see a book on swords by someone who doesn't just know a lot about swords as dead objects, but who also understands them as a practical tool.

Book Description
One of the least understood of Napoleon's corps were the four regiments of Gardes d'honneur, raised in 1813 during the frantic rebuilding of the French cavalry after the huge losses in Russia. Recruited from the leading social classes, uniformed and equipped at their own expense, and accompanied by servants to take care of such unpleasant chores as stable duty, these men were promised commissions as officers after a year's service in the ranks. Though spectacularly unready for combat upon their arrival with the army, the Guards of Honour would gain skill and confidence while serving alongside the élite cavalry of the Imperial Guard in the campaigns of Saxony and France, 1813-14, and distinguished themselves in battle at Hanau and Rheims. The story of their organisation, uniforms and service is researched from rare archives and memoirs, and illustrated with portraits, surviving uniform items, and meticulous colour plates.

OK BOOK TO REFER TOO........2007-07-08
i bought the conversations with god books and read in about less than two weeks. I thought they were great. I thought next that I would read this book. It took me the longest to read because at times it felt alittle boring and he kept saying the same thing over again. It was good to has reference book for when i might have question, but it probably not meant to be read through. This is not an important book, so go for another one of walsch's.
Which GOD?.......2006-11-02
God has already written a book. It is called the Holy Bible. Which god wrote this book? Mr. Walsch should not be so deceitful.
Christians beware..........2006-02-22
If you are a Christian and believe in the Bible, then you need to stay away from this book. As the old adage goes, "You can't judge a book by its cover".
The author purports to answer various questions from kids using the "voice of God". However, the "answers" that he gives are not Bible-based and go against the very infallible word of God. For instance (and I paraphrase), when a girl asks the question "Why am I a lesbian?" His answer is that she was born that way because of genetics (just as you were born right-handed, with blue eyes, etc.). Then he tells her to go out and "celebrate" her differences.
Another girls poses the question "I am living with my boyfriend. My parents say that I should marry him because I am living in sin. Should I marry him?"
His reply is, "Who are you sinning against? Not me, because you have done nothing wrong."
Another question asks about God's forgiveness of sin. His reply "I do not forgive anyone because there is nothing to forgive. There is no such thing as right or wrong and that is what I have been trying to tell everyone, do not judge people. People have chosen to judge one another and this is wrong, because the rule is "'judge not lest ye be judged.'"
And the list goes on. Not only are these books the false doctrine, but in some instances, it even quotes the Word of God in error.
Morality is relative ?.......2005-07-02
I enjoyed most of Walsch's first book, but I don't think he needed to write the same book over and over after that, with slight changes about what, 6 or 7 times? But this book shows a rather disturbing side of Walsch. When asked about the holocaust, he said it was extremely hard for him to deal with that subject, being sensitive to the victim's surviving relatives. And yet when a woman asks about his opinion of rape, he has no problem callously trivializing THIS issue at all! Well, according to Neale, it used to be legal to rape your wife a long time ago, so since society's idea of morality changes all the time, it's all relative, who's to say it's right or wrong? WOW!
I think the one thing that one can do that goes against the harmony of Love and God is to abuse another human being, especially when it violates their free will. All the great philosophers of spirituality agree on this, but I guess Neale's god doesn't believe in the Golden Rule.
We are living in a material world..........2005-04-02
There was once a man on Earth who knew that he had once again been framed and remembered the face of every man who put him there. However he turned to his God and forgave them.

This is right up there.......2001-05-26
Great books have a ring of truth to them. As you read, you can feel the truth resonating in your soul. Neale does a superb job of letting Spirit flow thru him into our hearts and minds. If you haven't read any of the CWG books, I recommend that you give them a chance. As to which, I have trouble distinguishing. It's like asking me which was my favorite time connecting with someone I love.
The most dramatic and significant thing in my life........1999-12-29
I have been on several journies in my lifetime, most of them have been bitter experiences. I have been asking questions about my existence and reasons for being in this universe. I have questioned the authority of the church and christianity in my life and the lives of others.
I am an African, and I have witnessed different spiritual powers and and different ways of worshipping and interacting with God. I have spoken with the dead aand it is for real!
Finally, I was in a bookstore in Holland ono faithful afternoon, very depressed and asking God why I have to go through so much hardship in my life, when I accidentally stumbled onto this great book. It has really changed my life. I believe that something propelled me towards this book. I believe that God has finally aanswered my call. I also believe that I deserve to have this great revealation because I have chosen to know the truth. However, I have finally realised that religion is jusst a vehicle used by people to gratify there selfish needs. I have since been living in peace.
This book will keep gravitating to those who are ready for it and no church nor authority in this universe can stop the intensity the message is radiating all over the world.
I choose to wish the messages in these books for my fellow travelers and may your lights continue to shine O Illuminatis!
the book is excellent. Walsch captures the essence of truth.......1998-11-02
in reading the first book of conversations with God it brought the realization to my inner self that we do have freedom of choice and why would God interfere with that choice. The book was so simple in the writings and yet right to the point. It reveals all the questions that people do have. It opens up our thoughts to realize that other persons experiences are given to us and if we do not do it their way than we are wrong. The book was right when it said that there is no right and there is no wrong who are we to judge others. Very good conversation, the truth is the truth and I am looking forward to reading the other books that have come out. Someone gave me this book as a gift to me and what a gift it has been.
this god reflects the bias of the author's unconscious.......1998-03-05
Though Walsch no doubt believes he had conversations with God, a much simpler explanation is that he had an unusual experience of getting in touch with his unconscious. Some would say that this is the same thing, since either A) the the unconscience is God, or B) God speaks to us primarily through the unconscious, anyway. Walsch tries to give us the impression that these conversatons are with THE God, the Universal God, of everything. But, it appears that the god that Mr Walsch is talking to is a highly personal one, with ready answers to the deep personal travails that he is having, and, if it's his unconscience, has a complete memory of his total life's experiences. The god of a more educated person will by necessity have a wider variety of experiences to draw on,and these will be reflected in the god's answers. For instance, Walsch's god, in trying to express his trinity, compares it to the id, the ego, and the super-id of psychology and again later, the body, the mind, and the spirit. Then he says this is equivalent to energy, matter, and anti-matter of the scientists. This reflects a naivete' of both sciences. Physics and Psychology would have alot to say about this speculation, were they inclined to so indulge. I think, perhaps space, time, and matter mght be a better trilogy, where matter consists of both mass and energy, and where space and time are just two different aspects of the ame continuum. But, matter and anti-matter are not so different, and make a lousy illustration of the point. Are we to believe that a universal God would give us a lousy illustration? No, but I think the example is sufficient for Walsch, so his god offers it match his level of understanding. This god says that he has divided himself in order to experience himself discovering himself, and that therefore, our ultimate quest is to discover Who We Are. This sounds good, and comes in part from Eastern religeons, but one wonders if the dynosaurs were also doing this self-discovery? Was evolution strictly designed to lead to humans, or were the dynos searching their souls for a couple of hundred millon years? Was there a dyno Moses who said that dynosaurs were made in the image and likeness of God? Maybe there was also a dyno Neale D Walsch telling them to find out Who You Are. And, when the experiment was all over, the total unconscious of all the dynosaurs brought on the fatal comet. More questions and comments to come.
Amazing.......1998-02-16
I was given this book by a stranger. Someone I met one night. It has been the most amazing gift. "it was meant to be" The message in this book changed my life, I in turn gifted it to a friend of mine who was anxiously waiting to buy it, she told me, "Thank you, you have made my weekend". I responded "this book will make your life". I would like to respond to all of those individuals who have harsh negative comments on this book. You are entitled to your own opinion and that opinion is based on your own perception of things. However, the message is very clear. If you do not see the message that is gifted to you via this book, you are at a different stage in your path, You are probably not ready now.

Millions of readers have come to value the Conversations with God series by Neale Donald Walsch, which has now been translated into twenty-six languages. Many thousands of those readers have had questions for him--questions about religion, good and evil, physical and mental health, death, prophecy, the nature of God and the universe, prayer, angels and devils, spiritual paths, relationships, and much more.
In Questions and Answers on Conversations with God, Neale, with characteristic wit and wisdom, responds to the most compelling and provocative of these letters; and the result is a book that is profoundly enlightening and inspiring. By relating the messages in the dialogues of CWG to the personal issues and everyday experience of individuals, Neale's answers illustrate the direct link between spiritual and physical reality, clearly demonstrating how what we do and who we are in our lives is a result of how we think and what we believe.
This book gives us all the opportunity to look at ourselves, to change ourselves, and thus, perhaps, to change the world.
