Book Description
To the Chinese the dragon is not an evil creature, but is a god and the friend of men who worship him. He "holds in his power prosperity and peace." Ruling the waters and the winds, he sends the good rain, is hence the symbol of fecundity. In the Hsia dynasty two dragons fought a great duel until both disappeared, leaving only a fertile foam from which were born the descendants of the Hsia. Thus, the dragons came to be looked upon as the ancestors of a race of heroes.
This is the story of China at War.

Even Better than Good Earth!.......2007-07-17
It had been years since I first read the Good Earth in high school and with a strong interest in the Asian culture having adopted three children from China I was prompted to buy a new copy and re-read it. It was a good book but then someone suggested Dragon Seed. While Good Earth was certainly a great book the Dragon Seed was even better! I would put it at the top of the list of books I have read and certainly a must read for those interested in Chinese culture. This one will be read by my children and I am looking forward to reading the rest of Pearl S. Buck's books. Simply and amazing and talented story teller.
Better Than Good Earth.......2007-03-29
Although Good Earth is a celebrated novel, as it should be, I believe Dragon Seed is a book as worthy and even more in many ways as it involves generation differences and war. Amazon offers many Pearl Buck books that can't be found anywhere else. These books have opened a whole new world for me. I love the old time Chinese culture and Dragon Seed is so full of the many aspects, phrases, and customs so unlike today - in our Western World. Each character is so carefully constructed with soul depth, despite the fact that most could not read or write and lived a simple life. The Gods seem to come to life and the tragedy the people suffer so real and frightening during the revolution. The simplistic lifestyle is as well depicted as that in Good Earth. This book is a must for all Old Chinese Culture lovers. So exciting to cuddle up and read good literature.
Unforgettable.......2004-09-20
I have read many books in my time but the two books that stand out for me are Dragon Seed by Pearl S. Buck and This Perfect Day by Irn Levin. Although The Good Earth is a fine book by any standard, Dragon Seed brought the characters to life for me. I have re-read these two books so many times that they have become a little "raggy" with time. Each time I read them I find something new, some new slant on what the authors were saying. The movie that was made from the book Dragon Seed could have been done better and although I like Katherine Hepburn, the part she played should have been played by an oriental. But, the book will live on and will continue to make itself felt for many years to come. Someday, I hope to find someone who will put these two books on a tape for those who have vision difficulty. I have not found them available for the visually impaired thus far. I feel that this is keeping a large section of the population from enjoying these books and I do hope that this will be corrected in the near future.
novel of a lifetime.......2004-07-23
I always preferred reading magazines rather than novels because i thought novels were boring and reading them was a waste of time. After reading Dragon seed my perception about novels took a shift in the positive dierction. No other author can bring out the subtle aspects of life in times of difficulty as pearl buck has did. I read this novel as a thirteen year old but i still remeber every part of it(i am 22 now). Such is the impression this novel has created. one can read a lot of books on philosophy and humanity but still miss out on some key aspects. i promise u will have the feeling of having read a thousand books on the human nature in this one novel. The novel ends with a positive note and a glimmer of hope which will make every reader search for the silver lining even during the most turbulent times.
AN EARTH-SHAKING NOVEL; PEARL BUCK AT HER FINEST.......2000-12-17
I thought I would never read a novel as outstanding as The Good Earth. And then I read Dragon Seed! Thus far, this is the greatest book I have ever read! There are truly no adjectives to satisfactorily describe the depth and poignancy of this novel. My heart filled with sorrow as I turned the pages of this mesmerizing story of the Chinese peasants' condition during World II. I would go back to re-read a paragraph every now and then in order to let the words seep into my very soul. I could not comprehend this unspeakable man's inhumanity to man, but there it was, as only Pearl Buck could write about it. Not to read this book at least once is not to have lived. I will carry the drama and heartbreak of Dragon Seed with me for the rest of my life. Dragon Seed is not just a novel; it is an experience of the heart and soul! It should be a must for everyone who truly loves great literature, and it should be required reading for every public high school student in this country.

Book Description
If you thought you were of the wrong gender, age, IQ level or social class to develop an eating disorder, I urge you to read my story. Other people see me as Alison the businesswoman, wife, mother, daughter - whatever hat I happen to be wearing. To the outside world I probably appear to be totally in control. But appearances can be deceptive. One in four adults will suffer at some time from a mental illness. I am one of those statistics. When I was 40 I became ill with an eating disorder, which took on many guises until I had it under control. Today, most people wouldn't realise that I had ever had a problem. What they don't see is my daily struggle, and the awareness that I could relapse at any time. This is a true account of what it is like to suffer from an eating disorder. In writing my story I have, in many ways, exposed myself at my most vulnerable. My only purpose in doing so is to try and save another person from picking up the one-way ticket to hell that I have travelled on.

This is a must have.......2005-03-08
Men Of Courage II has three extraordinary tales of heroes and their struggles.
Lori Foster's An Honorable Man has Lt. Colonel Hamilton Wulf coming back to offer Liv Avery comfort at the loss of her military father. Liv was raised by a military man you never put her first and she has vowed never to live that life again. Hamilton is back to help Liv but also to win her back. When a tornado hits town they both realize that love has a place in their world. Lori Foster has written a story that is uplifting to the soul.
Blown Away by Donna Kauffman has tornado chasers Cooper Harrison and Marty McKenna trapped again by a vicious storm. Six years ago they shared an incredible night and the next day went their separate ways. As they find themselves trapped again can they both work through their past to a future? Donna Kauffman's story you feel like you are really a part of the storm.
Jill Shalvis tale Perilous Waters has old high school sweethearts stuck together during a tornado. Helicopter pilot Wyatt Stone was just recovering from Leah Taylor being back in town, when he is sent to rescue her from a boat on the river. Leah Taylor came back to town to forget and to start over. Can her and Wyatt put their history behind them and begin anew. Jill Shalvis story make you experience the trauma of being in a tornado.
This is an excellent anthology. It makes you appreciate the people that put their lives on the line each and every day to make the world safer. Great job ladies.
Three times the Excitement!.......2005-02-16
Man against nature is a fascinating subject, and these three talented writers will keep you turning the pages with their heroic tales involving some of nature's most volatile and unpredictable weather.
Lori Foster brings us a story of Liv and Hamilton, two people meant to be together, despite their different beliefs about life in the military. Liv grew up with distant, cold memories of her family because of her father's military career, and is determined not to follow that path for herself, even if it means she can't be with the man she loves. Ham is just as determined that Liv is the woman for him, but will having her mean he must give up the career, the life, he belongs to? When a deadly tornado puts them in danger, will Liv be able to let go of the past and let herself be happy with the man of her dreams, who happens to be career military? Ms. Foster tugs at your heartstrings with this emotional journey of the heart.
Cooper and Marty are fearless storm chasers who've worked together in the past, even experiencing a passionate interlude while seeking shelter from a deadly twister, a fierce force of nature that calls to their adventurous spirits like a siren song. After the encounter, they both go their separate ways, believing they are each at different points in their lives. The wedding of a mutual friend brings Cooper and Marty back to a familiar place, yet they never expected to see each other under the same exact circumstances -seeking shelter from a deadly tornado. This time, will they make it out alive, and if so, will it be so easy to walk away from each other?
Wyatt and Leah were high school sweethearts, and Wyatt believed that they would be together forever, until Leah decides to leave smalltown life for the excitement of the big city. When Leah returns years later, this time back to stay, Wyatt can't help but feel resentful of the way she waltzes back into his life so easily, like she never broke his heart. But when a deadly storm strands them on a houseboat, Wyatt realizes he's never stopped loving her, and can think of only getting them out alive so he can spend the rest of his life proving it to her.
Lori Foster, Donna Kauffman and Jill Shalvis delight with their heartfelt writing, wonderfully capturing the essence of some truly brave heroes and heroines. Whether in the military or some other dangerous occupation, heroes are all around us.
These are Men to love!!!.......2005-02-05
An Honorable Man by Lori Foster. LT Colonel Ham Wulf returns to his first love, Liv Amery to inform her of her father death from a heart attack. Colonel Weston Amery was all air force and did not have time to raise a little girl after the death of her mother. Always feeling alone Liv did not want any part of being a military wife. But Ham came with a plan to convince Liv that they can have a life together. But Liv is confused and leave right as a tornado hits town. They have to courage to fight the tornado but do they have courage to find a life together? Ms. Foster has never disappointed. And she has another winner with me. *** Blown Away" by Donna Kauffman is about tornado chasers Marty Mckenna and Cooper Harrison. Six years ago they shared passion as big as the tornado they escaped from. Now Cooper wants her back. *** Perilous Waters" by Jill Shalvis. Leah Taylor steps back in helicopter pilot Wyatt Stone' life. Now they have to work together. Leah broke his heart 10 years ago when she left to follow her dreams. When a tornado threatens Leah and others on a houseboat Wyatt pulls out all stops to save her. And to rescue their lost love. I loved all three love stories. These stories are about three men and lost first loves and their courage to recapture the loves of their lives.

Men of Courage II - romance done right, very sweet.......2005-02-05
Men of Courage II contains stories by three of the heavy hitters in women's romance today - Lori Foster, Donna Kauffman and Jill Shalvis.
Lori Foster's AN HONORABLE MAN has Lt. Col. Hamilton Wulf trying to win the love of Liv Avery, the only woman he has ever wanted to call his own. Liv has reservations because of Ham's dedication to the Air Force, the same dedication that kept her father from being a part of her life. Ham is so sweet in his determined pursuit of Liv that you can't help but hope she will give in and accept his love.
Donna Kauffman's BLOWN AWAY gives an inside look at storm chasers Cooper Harrison and Marty McKenna, two very gutsy and determined individuals who shared intimacies years before. The two of them have never forgotten each other; it seems that fate is determined to bring them together once again.
Jill Shalvis' contribution of PERILOUS WATERS is the story of copter pilot Wyatt Stone and reporter Leah Taylor. The two of them were sweethearts several years before and Leah broke Wyatt's heart when she left for higher aspirations in New York City. Now she's back, and Wyatt wishes she had stayed in New York . . . or does he? After saving her life during a violent storm, he's not so sure.
These three stories are all very sweet with comfortable characters; all three have just enough heat to keep things hot. I am sure you won't be disappointed, these three authors always please their readers.

Fantastic.......2007-09-20
I loved the first book in this series. The characters were well developed and the plot was great too. I loved the fact that the heroine in this book actually had a personality, and wasn't easily persuaded to do whatever and believe whatever her mates (yes mates, she has more than one lover/boyfriend/err...husband??) wanted her to do. The only downfall that I can come up with is that it is too short, it could've been a longer novel and still maintained an awesome story line. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
The Future of Evolution.......2007-07-05
This story is about an advanced planet that is sending its warriors through "wormholes" into other planets to help find mates for their men. It seems this advanced civilization has a shortage of females and they send emmissaries here to find their "one true mate", who by the way is also the one true mate of their brother in arms...in other words one woman is shared by two men and no, they don't get assigned time slots everyone just shows up in bed together. Dylan finds his true mate in Jessica and tricks her into coming to Alcadian where she finds out that she is expected to bind with Dylan and his mate, Jett. Both guys are top physical specimins but they can't understand why Jessica doesn't just up and accept the situation. Although Jessica is thrilled to finally have met two men who are willing to commit, she just can't turn her morals and ideas from her whole life off in a day.
I thought this was a pretty good book and it was good enough to hold my attention. That's why I gave it 3 stars. However,I didn't think it was worth 5 stars like most of the other readers and maybe I want more than just graphic sex in a book to keep me interested. It seemed like this book is full of questions that would have helped the story if they had been answered. For instance, we are told that the practice of sharing mates has been going on in Alcandia for some time and we meet the children and mothers of these unions but where are the fathers??? Supposedly, it is no problem when the woman has a baby because both fathers claim it, so where is the proof? Also, why do they just expect Jessica to be honored by the situation and not have any reservations?
The premise is a really good one and a lot of sex is great if their is some depth behind it, but I think this book focused too much on the sex and too little on the mind.
ALCANDIAN QUEST is a fascinating adventure into another world........2007-01-30
Jessica was a twenty-eight-year-old virgin. She had been saving herself for marriage. That didn't mean she couldn't play a little, just wouldn't go all the way until she was married or at least engaged. Finding her boyfriend and friend naked in her bed, in her home, wanting her to join them in their sexual activities was enough to send her fleeing to her house in the California Mountains. There she found her brother and two other men whose eyes seemed otherworldly. Jessica was immediately attracted to the man called Dylan. Her body's response to him scares her though, so she turns down his request for a date.
Dylan and Jett are companions-at-arms on the world of Alcandar. They're not blood brothers. Their bond is through mind bridging. This linking of the minds makes them closer than blood brothers would be. This mind bridging made them more powerful when they went into battle. It also makes them so close that the same woman would mind bridge with both of them, thus making her their mate. Dylan had found their mate on Earth when he met Jessica. Now all they need to do is convince Jessica that she belongs to them, and have her brought to their world.
Jessica had been sent to the Defense Department to secure a contract. She writes documents for a living, and a contract with the Defense Department would allow her to live at her home in the mountains and telecommute. However when she arrives for her interview, she's shown to a room containing a wormhole gate, which allows for interplanetary travel between Earth and Alcandar. After being informed that the important Alcandian she had met had requested her as an emissary, she was escorted through the wormhole by Jett and several of the other Alcandar warriors. Only when Jessica is safely on Alcandar is she informed that the gates are built so that Alcandian males could find mates. Females are rare on Alcandar. Because Dylan had been able to "touch" her mind while on Earth, he knew that she was his and Jett's true mate.
I absolutely loved this book! I could easily empathize with Jessica's emotional turmoil over what she feels for both Dylan and Jett as she fights to accept her kidnaping from Earth. Dylan and Jett are endearing in their endeavor to get Jessica to understand the ways of their world. Mind bridging isn't something done in the Earth dating scene. That's just not acceptable in a normal Earth society. Jessica doesn't discover her true feelings for her Alcandians until she almost loses them. Alcandar is a world where you'd have two sexy men, and no housework, who could ask for more? The beds make themselves, the bathtub cleans itself, food serves itself, and there are no dishes to do. Where is this planet? Sign me up. I want to go! I'm hoping this will be a series. There were several characters in the book that I would love to read more about. ALCANDIAN QUEST is a fascinating adventure into another world.

Quest Fulfilled!.......2006-08-05
This was also my first time reading this author. Let's get one minor annoyance out of the way, then on to the book: NOTE TO AUTHOR: check out thesaurus for another word for 'passage'. Next time you feel the urge overcome you, PASS ON USING--OVERUSING--PASSAGE! *G*
As I said, a minor annoyance in what was, overall, an excellent book; and the writing was really so well done that it took a long time into the book for this to get more than marginally annoying--and never so annoying as to seriously detract from the enjoyment of the story. Loved the wormhole/govt secrets take here, and since I'm not a big fan of sci fi efforts overall, that's saying something. Having read a few books in this genre, I have to say I was prepared for the worst.
Fortunately, I didn't get it. *G*
I very much liked the characters here; all of them were fun to read, and I also loved the way this author touched on the bigotry that I feel sure would raise its ugly head in the event that, in a galaxy far, far away, events like this should ever happen. She did a great job of getting you to suspend disbelief--aw, heck, I'm just gonna say it--she made this impossible scenario very believable by portraying the human reactions of the characters right d*mn realistically. And no, Alcandia(Alcanda? Not sure) was not some utopia of female menage fantasy; it had the kinds of problems you might expect humans to manage to come up with in such a world. And was the more likeable for it!
Our hottie/heros were just to die for (Jett me one right over! *G*); she does almost as good a job painting the ins and outs of the menage dynamics as L.K. Hamilton--high praise indeed. The book held my attention throughout; the plot was interesting and original in a more realistic way than you usually ever see in fantasy or sci fi--and that just made it all the more interesting. You could almost see these people living out there somewhere in the galaxy.
Add to these very nice things, the sex--so well written, so, so HOT. (Yum. *G*) And yet the romantic aspect of the story never suffered for it. I have a real problem reading about the 'dominant male' who rides over everyone else's wishes--especially his lady's--being considered 'masterful'; that's just a selfish idiot who needs to grow up in my opinion; spoiled brat does NOT equal sexy!
Where you begin to think it's going to creep over into a case of the bratty male in this book (and thankfully the heroine--though sorely tempted *G*--never wimps out), the author slyly shows us that the heroine has made some unwarranted assumptions; and--well, let's not spoil it. *G*
Since this book largely turns on societal expectations and the blind assumptions and prejudices people make and carry about such things, the discovery of these blind spots is a necessary and enjoyable part of the plot and the action in the book.
The little asides the author so casually tosses out regarding genetics, its gearing and such, were just the kind of intelligent touches that raise a respectable effort to an imaginative and interesting one. An intelligent love story; an intelligent sci fi effort; a d*mn good, sexy read! It's got it all.
I've already ordered the second book in this series; hope the author decides to make this an extensive series!
First time reading Wine.......2006-04-13
I don't usually read romance but wanted to try something different. Since Scifi is one of my favorites, I decided on this one after looking forever for something in that area. There aren't very many scifi romances as far as I can see. It's not hard core scifi, actually very light but the romance can't be beat.
This was great and a lot of fun. It was easy to read and I will probably come back to read it later.
Try it out!

I got more out of my other book breaking free from sexual addiction by Willinignham.the workbook is kind of hard to do.
My Life is Again With God.......2004-08-05
Where do I start with a book of this calibre!!!
I have been a christian for 10 years now and I have had a troublesome life, in terms of my brother dying and my mother having a breakdown... I can go on but I don't wanna bore you to death. Since these tragic events took place, I was not the same person. I basically fell head over hells into depression and I did not realize it until later on in my life.
This is when I began to dabble in porn to keep me satisfied and keep me from losing my mind and devling deeper into depression and suffering. "I am in no way justifying myself just telling you how it is".
As the months and years went by my descendance into porn and fetishes etc became obsessive and become the focal point of my day. No matter what I was doing or who I was talking to My mind and feelings were in a place of sexual fantasy.
I have accumulated £6000 > $10,935.70 "I am from the UK" of expenses on internet sex, fetish, sites and also video's, CD's.
I became entralled with it and my life was about sex and my sexual fantasies. Not My family, GF, or Friends.
I was a very selfish and arragant so and so because all I wanted to do is get off and explore the world of sex and fantasies. My Lust and Urges were only satisfied momentarily.
I believed this was a good therapeutic ritual of destressing myself and saisifying my monsterous urges.
This went on and on.
I knew I was going to far into my obssessive behaviour when I started to explore the darker side of sex. I was getting into things of which I would neverever be excited by if I was in my sane mind. I tried to stop and even went without indulding in my fifth for a week or so, but the temptation and seductive nature of beautiful women and sex etc, always pulled me in and then spat me out. I was a slave to my desire. Visting Prostitues, Mistresses.
This is when I knew I had no control over my obsession, I was very much a fully fledged sex addict.
Now This is the point where I tried to stop and exit this world.
However this was an impossible task for me as I have conditioned myself with this lifestyle to such a degree that all I ever knew on how to get comform, destress and feel a temporary kind of love is by doing these things. I became very lazy, didn't want a relationship at all. I just wanted what I wanted. I was battling with myself all the time trying to come out of this mess I have created.
I didn't realize how far away from god I was until I even thought about him. All I ever thought about was myself and needs.
This is when I began to pray and ask for forgiveness, to repent my sins. It worked. The pull of my sexual deseries became tolerable. However I fell foul of my sin again and again and again. As the Devil knew my weaknesses and my fantasies etc.
I was weak and lost in the world of darkness and emptiness.
Until I made a super strong effort to break free and throw away myold lifestlye completely.
I became close with god once again and god gave me a sample of what kind of peace and love to expect If I obey him and live a life of righteousness and truth. The Feeling was amazaing, I felt soooooo at ease and at peace, It was truly amazing.
I let temptation get me again, I knew at this point I needed some serious help. However I was to paraniod going to my paster or counsellor. So I went looking for some selfhelp books, this is where I found this Monumental Book From This amazing Person Stsve G. God is Speaking Through him on so many levels.
This book has now changed my life completly, I know its hard to believe but it has. The book dissects the mind of a person dealing with sexual addiction, This is the ultimate book about dealing with sexual addiction or sin, I am now close with god and I know the tactics of the enemy. This book will identify why you are having this problem and also give you the tools and weapons on how to destroy thetemptation of lust. Also very importantly how to have a healthy sexual godly relationship with the one you love. I urge you to buy this book, this will completly change your life if you are dealing with this kind of problem. Lust is a hideous monster that can never be satisfied only leaving you empty with no self respect and with even more pain and sufferings. Thank you Lord God Almighty for this book and for Steve G.
Real, Powerful, & the best spiritually based book I've read.......2004-02-03
Where do I begin? This book needs to be read by every single person that considers themselves Christian. Even non-Christians should read this book. Steve Gallagher does an exceptional job with unveiling the roots to problems associated with sexual sin. However, the roots can be applied to any habitual sin. What's great about this book is that he does not sugar coat this issue. He speaks the whole truth and you can feel the realness and sincerity in his words. He backs up everything with scripture, provides useful examples to illustrate his point, and includes quotes from spiritual scholars that drive points home.
This book is written by a man for men. He deals with all types of sexual behavior from pedofiles to Don Juans's (womanizers) and he just makes everything so clear. Never will I have a hardened heart towards men like this for I understand they are under attack.
I first heard about this book because my friend's dad does ministry at a prison where he uses this book to help minister to sex offenders. Every week, his class grows in size and the men have actually attested to ALL that Steve Gallagher has said about this type of sin. As a woman, I purchased this book to understand this type of sin so I can help my brothers in Christ, to help me release the strongholds I had in my mind with regard to men who commit these types of sin, and to forgive the pedofile in my past. I have a younger brother coming up and one day I will have a son. This book equips you with wisdom beyond what you would ever imagine. Steve Gallagher is a true soldier and makes it clear that we are at war. Spiritual war. What's even more fantastic about this book is that there is food that every person, every Christian can eat regardless of how they "think" they're living. Wait until you get to the chapter on Pride. He discusses "Know-It-All" Pride, "Unsubmissive" Pride and several others. He even has a chapter on how a man should love his wife. As a woman, it is good to see this so that my expectations are set at the right level. I could go on about eveything that made this book good but put it like this: I never bother to take the time to highlight books and make notes. It took a lot for me in some chapters to not just highlight the whole page yellow. This author does not waste any words. Everyone of them have relevance. My book has notes in the margin ad highlighted and underlined sections. I actually plan to develop some type of personal book report to help fortify what I've learned. I have purchased 3 extra copies so far to help brothers who I know can gain knowledge on how to free themselves from this bondage.
He helps to paint the picture of how the devil, in his calculating and strategic way, can corrupt the minds of God's children. The author of the book "The Art of War" said: "In order to win any battle, one must know the enemy's terrain". Steve Gallagher, this blessed and beautiful man of God, exposes the devil fully. If this book is not on your shelf, you will either remain in darkness or you will be walking in the light with sunglasses on.
