"Two delightful holiday stories from the New York Times bestselling author in one glorious e-book edition. A Season of Angels When three willing but wacky angels -- Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy -- are given a Christmas prayer to answer, there's just one catch: each angel must teach her charge a memorable lesson before the wish can be granted. Touched by Angels New York City is always in need of miracles, and this Christmas is no exception. Thank heavens the divinely inspired, if slightly dizzy trio -- Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy -- have winged in to answer three Christmas wishes and teach a few lessons along the way. As usual, they've come up with three deserving souls who are about to discover that with this crew, when you wish upon a star, you get a lot more than a pretty song."

A New Favorite Author for Me.......2003-01-28
This is the first book I have read from this author, but will look for more of the same. It was a well written, sweet, funny look at something we all need to believe in. I had just lost my husband and was flying home (first time on a plane). Picked this up in the airport and was immediately immersed in the story, so forgot to be nervous about my flight. It was something I could connect to in my fragil state so thank you Debbie Mcomber for some light at the end of my particular tunnel.
The Perfect Heartwarming Read........2002-12-16
I thought the book was great, I rated it a 4.5 out of 5. Although I didn't feel the characters were fleshed out enough, the stories of Christmas "miracles of love" were heartwarming. A perfect read for this time of the season. And again, although I love books with more meat in them, more story, ets., I felt this was a great book to read.
The first of the two stories, "A Season of Angels" did great in introducing our angels, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy as they helped their charges realize the answers to their prayers before Christmas. Of the three stories (charges), two were more predictible than the third, which was a pleasant surprise.
The angels were back again in "Touched by Angels," again helping three lucky charges. I liked this 'book' alot better than the first, as the stories were a tad more realistic.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone. And apparently there are more books featuring these three angels. Guess I have to go find "The Trouble With Angels" and "Shirley Goodness and Mercy."

Book Description
Did you know there are angels all around? Angels who look after ordinary activities like waking up and going to school? Angels who watch over you at tea parties and dress-up time?
In Angels, Angels Everywhere, Tomie dePaola presents an appealing collection of "everyday" angels, rendered in luminous fresco-style illustrations. Using just the names of the angels as text, he artfully shows how these angels help kids throughout the course of a typical day.
From the Get-Dressed Angel in the morning to the Goodnight Angel at night, Angels, Angels Everywhere is a wonderful celebration of warmth and giving sure to lend comfort to any reader. After all, everyone can use an angel!
Customer Reviews:
Cute book, but needs a story to it........2007-04-12
The pictures are great, but I have to agree with the other reviewers, it needs more words. My daughter can't relate to some of the daily angeles like the school angel, because she isn't of school age yet. So it would have been nice to put a little story on each page of what the angels do for the children during their day. It's an okay book, but see if it's available at your local library first before you buy it.
More WORDS, please!.......2007-03-25
Realizing this is a "first" reader/ child's book, I still wish there were more description.
As always with dePaola, the illustrations are wonderful
Book Description

Great children's book.......2003-09-29
"Angels, Angels Everywhere" is a beautiful children's book from author Larry Libby and illustrator Corbert Gauthier. Consistent with prior efforts from Mr. Gauthier, the illustrations are bright and colorful and sure to keep a child's attention focused on the book. The purpose of the book is to answer common questions that children have about angels. Some of the questions addressed include, "If angels are everywhere, why can't we see them" and "Will I be an angel when I die". Along with each answer there are specific Biblical references to related passages about angels. Mr. Libby also does an excellent job of looking at various incidents in the Bible where angels are involved in giving messages, helping people, consoling people, and the many other tasks. This book will not only bring a basic understanding of the nature of angels to your child but is also sure to bring a peaceful, protected feeling to young children. "Angels, Angels Everywhere" is a highly recommended read.

Lovely beautiful book of wonderful angelic encounters..........2005-06-07
This is a truly elegant and beautiful book, and the stories are both lovely and inspiriting. I re-read it often, and enjoy every story in it. I bought a copy as a Valentine's Day gift for my mother and she loves it too. Very high quality publication, deep rich colors, even a ribbon bookmark.
I wrote one of the stories.......2001-05-27
I have to say this.... The stories are true. The woman who wrote the book took a collection of stories over the internet and with the permission from the authors she created this book. Why 3 stars?? Well, my story was edited so much that I was embarrassed to show my friends. I was sent copies to give to family etc. But still have a bag full. I don't believe my story held the whole meaning that I was trying to convey. I am a little peeved about that. I was told the story would go in as is but it didn't, she broke her word to me. Nevermind I had to track her down to find out that my story WAS in the book and and I wanted the copies as she promised. ....
I'm a contributer to the book........2001-05-27
Some may say I'm predjudice but I liked what I read in the book. My minister doesn't believe in angels but I still feel I'm lutheran even though I do believe in angels. You see everyone does have different beliefs and in my opinion as long as you believe in God it doesn't matter who else or what else you believe in. I admit my story was reworded slightly to state that I pray to Jesus but I never pray to him. My church brought me up to pray to God. I also pray to his messengers. By that I mean I pray to My deceased relatives and also my angels. There is nothing wrong with what you believe, as long as it gives you peace, guidance, and gives you a path to be a good person. So please don't put down this book for how the contributers feel, give a review about the book itself.Thanks.
I am one of the authors.......2001-05-26
I am the author of the story of the old rabbi. I related this experience on the internet one night, just to share it with other people. Lynn Valentine saw it and asked for permission to include it in her book. I was happy to do so. I still feel a spiritual lift when I think of the old man blessing my children that night. Was he an angel...only God knows. I am writing now just to assure those of you who might wonder if Ms. Valentine fabricated these experiences.
Simplistic and contrived.......2001-05-21
These stories had a false ring to me, as if the author made them up. The compilation seems as if it were smacked together overnight. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
Customer Reviews:
Great choice for your Christian children.......2006-03-13
I have read all of Tamar Myers' mysteries, and love them. I haven't read this book and just happened across it, while looking for another book. The one star review that was written will make this book a must purchase. I have two Christian children and I find most young adult books that are in secular bookstores contain stuff I'd rather my kids didn't read. So, to come across a book that someone dislikes because it is a Christian kids book, and it is by an author I like, I'll order it today.
Big Disappointment.......2005-05-26
I thought this was an unusual title for a mystery but the author being Tamar Myers, I bought it. If you are religious and a kid, you might like it. It was a bit much for me. Nowhere in the advertisement does it tell you that it is a kid's book and nowhere does it tell you that it is a religious book. Soooo,
if you are hoping for a mystery, check out her other books and skip this one. This was Not what I was looking for. I would like to have a synopsis of the books I buy. It is not easy to find out what each book is about on Amazon. Nor do the reviews tell you. Wish this had only been listed with the kids books, not as a mystery.

Book Description
A delightful gift or children's book that brings life to angels as seen through the eyes of children. As part of a special holiday project, patients at C. S. Mott Children's Hospital, University of Michigan, created angels that represented their dreams, hopes, and passions--in all, 75 creative expressions of life and love weaved together by enchanting poetry. Sadly, not all of the children survived to see this book published, but their imaginations--and their spirits--live on. A portion of the proceeds from sales of this book will be donated to C. S. Mott Children's Hospital.

Art by Patients of C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.......2004-05-23
The Angel of Drawing helps you with art
As the Angel of Love fills up your heart.
The Angel of Dreams is there while you sleep.
Her arms wrap around as you slumber so deep.
~pg. 37
The cover (not yet shown) has a white background with air brushed clouds and a picture of a little angel with curly golden hair and a white dress with drawings of people from various cultures holding hands around the rim.
Angels are Everywhere is one of the most unique children's books I've found to date. The patients at a hospital used materials of all shapes and sizes to craft angels. These angels represent the patient's hopes, dreams and passions.
Adrienne Rudolph, an artist in residence at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan asked chronically and terminally ill children to "create an angel that represented a personal interest." For 6 months these children created angels and then all 104 angels were displayed on the holiday tree in the hospital lobby.
Adrienne wanted to create a lasting memory and keep these angels all together in a book. Her wish has been brought to life on page after page of amazing art. Maureen McKinney created sing-song verse to accompany color photographs of 75 of the original 104 angels.
Sadly many of the children did not live to see some of their creations pictured in this book, however their spirit and talent now live on the pages of Angels are Everywhere. When you realize that some of the angels were created by children fighting for their very lives, it creates a powerful impression. All the angels are pictured on pages with cloud backgrounds. Each background is a different color from green to blue and even peach.
Some of the angel names:
The Angel of Buttons by Ethan Stodbeck (This angel helps you get dressed)
The Angel of Spring by Christina Bigelow (helps flowers grow)
The Angel of Faith by Nicole Williams (helps fill your heart with hope and love)
The Angel who Cooks by Ingrid Neiters (makes food so yummy she fills up your heart as she fills up your tummy)
Each angel is amazingly unique and created with a variety of interesting materials from various patterned materials, craft supplies and even unusual items like gloves or birthday candles.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Angels are Everywhere will be donated to the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Angel Publications is also the recipient of the 2002 Benjamin Franklin Silver Award for the title Kwanzaa Teddy, The Curious Bear.
Also look for:
The Easter Egg
The Soldier

Angels are Everywhere makes a perfect gift for Christmas or any occasion throughout the year. I love the creativity and the idea that angels are always looking after us.

Book Description
Katy suddenly knows that she, her sister, and her tiny niece are the only people left in a desolate Montana ghost town. Without a horse or a rifle, they hadn't a chance of crossing a wilderness crawling with outlaws, Indians, and grizzlies. All Katy had was a steely will to survive and a Derringer in her pocket. Then a stranger named Garrick Rowe rode down the empty main street. He wasn't a desperado; he was a rugged frontiersman with a daring scheme to bring this town back to life--and some personal plans for Katy. Gazing boldly into her lovely blue eyes, he proclaimed her his woman--a declaration that only made Katy more independent than ever! Yet his words intrigued her, and his insistent kisses whispered that her destiny was to fight for this wild land . . . and to surrender to a man with the strength, the courage, and the passion to make her dreams come true.

a pleasant read.......2006-03-18
Actually, I rated this book 3and l/2 stars. I usually love Garlock's books, but I just didn't think this was one of her best. It is a good read, an okay book, nothing special. Katy was so obnoxious to Rowe, I don't know why he stayed around her. Then all of a sudden, she decides to marry him. I read a lot of books and may be more critical than most. Garlock is a very good author. I noticed she has been compared to Louis L'Amour but I couldn't do that. I will continue to buy and read her books because many are great.
Primary Story Turns Syrupy . . . Very Low 4 Stars........2005-09-26
Garrick Rowe believes in reincarnation and has been waiting for Katy Burns his entire life. She thinks he is crazy. His tactics are self-serving, and his attitude is arrogant. Still, the man's words and ideas intrigue her. His beliefs fascinate her. Garrick Rowe believes Katy Burns will remain in this godforsaken frontier, she will help him build his town, and then she will fight to keep it prosperous. Yes, Garrick Rowe intrigues and fascinates Katy Burns, but she still thinks he is a lunatic - an attractive, forceful lunatic.
Garrick Rowe wanted to shake Katy Burns, but not nearly as much as this reader. Rowe found Katy delightful, stubborn, and ornery; this reader found her selfish and unpleasant. The idea that the heroine had enough grit and spirit to cover a dozen women grew tiresome. However, that tiresome distinction was not nearly as bad as the sticky, syrupy, love-feast that eventually occurred. So, why didn't this reader bail out? Because Ms. Garlock elected to run some very good sub-stories and these provocative secondary stories are what saved NIGHTROSE from damnation.
Dorothy Garlock remains a favorite author governed by another remarkable trait: as a writer, Garlock never makes her reader feel anxiety. This gifted writer generally solves all troubling adventures promptly. Such a writing technique may seem unimportant, but such a writing technique keeps Dorothy Garlock on my preferred author list.

It was ok.......2004-12-24
this was my 3rd book by dorothy Garlock, and I did enjoy it, but not as much as I enjoyed the other 3. Mostly cause I found the fighting between Katy and Garrick rather annoying half way thru the book, yes she tried not to like him but enough was enough. About 3/4 of the book over and thats when the action started with his half brother and everything, so 3/4 of the book was constant argueing and rather pointless writing.
It is a good book dont get me wrong but its not the best, I enjoyed the listening sky much more then this one
Another wonderful story..........2002-04-28
Another excellent Garlock book!! Rowe and Katy are a charming combination, as are Mary and Hank.
In the hard times of the frontier era, what would happen to two women and a little girl that are abandoned in a town, when all the treasure-seeking gold miners desert in search of more riches? With only a small derringer, how can the women protect themselves? They won't be able to stay in the abandoned town forever, and they are sure to face problems trying to get to another town.
When the mysterious bearded stranger comes into the abandoned town, along with his dog, the girls are not sure what to think of him at first. The stranger, Rowe, bought the town, with plans to bring it back to life... and a mysterious connection with Katy, knocks him off his feet.
When some drifters come into town, and Rowe witnesses them murder one of their riders, it's up to him to protect the women. From this moment on, Ms. Garlock creates one hurdle after another for these characters, and they get closer and closer as they overcome each and every one of them.
If you read Ms. Garlock's story, Midnight Blue, then you'll be pleased to read about the appearance of Pack and Mara Shannon Gallagher, and get an update on their lives. Also from Midnight Blue, is a short appearance of Mara Shannon's villain cousin, Cullen McCall. Nevertheless, if you haven't read Midnight Blue, you won't be missing anything, as Ms. Garlock provided everything you needed to know about these people, for the short appearance they made in this book.
Short but Enjoyable audio cassette recording!.......2002-01-05
I liked this audio cassette recording of Dorothy Garlock's Nightrose even though it was abridged and very short I really enjoyed listening to this romance story of Katy Burns and Garrick Rowe but I just didn't find this to be a keeper!

"Karen Fields has given us a splendid new translation of the greatest work of sociology ever written, one we will not be embarrassed to assign to our students. In addition she has written a brilliant and profound introduction. The publication of this translation is an occasion for general celebration, for a veritable 'collective effervescence.'
--
Robert N. Bellah Co-author of Habits of the Heart, and editor of Emile Durkheim on Morality and Society
"This superb new translation finally allows non-French speaking American readers fully to appreciate Durkheim's genius. It is a labor of love for which all scholars must be grateful."
--Lewis A. Coser
Customer Reviews:
a classic text........2007-06-01
A book of this kind needs no review; everybody intrerested in sociology of religion needs this text as one of the fundamental views of sociological reflection on the meaning of religion.
Surprisingly Modern.......2006-10-07
I've read Suicide and Division of Labor and was interested in a historical sort of way. Elementary Forms is positively shocking. Pages 8-18 and 433-48 will change your life. In those 25 or so pages he outlines a sociology of knowledge that presages the works of Mead, Berger, and the phenomenologists. He's 50 years ahead of Merleau-Ponty's great Phenomenology of Perception which treads over much of the same material. The rest of EFRL is interesting as well but if you read nothing else of Durkheim's read those pages. They completely reinvigorated the stuffy "father of sociology" I had known.
Incredible. Will change the way you see, well, everything........2006-01-16
I read this for a class- I study comparative religion (not anthro or sociology). Our professor asked us at the end of the semester when we had watershed-type moments in the class and people kept going back to Durkheim. It's hard not to. Ok, the guy didn't quite get it right on some things but don't get too bogged down in some of the stuff he misses or that sometimes he sounds very colonialist when he talks about "primitive religion", because when he gets it right he is brilliant brilliant brilliant.
His points about religion are really revolutionary. Even today after "we've come so far" (wait, does that make Durkheim the "primitive" now?). You can get rid of the idea that we made up delusions to comfort ourselves from nature (unless you're in Freud's camp, like a lot of atheists I know) or that religion necessarily has to be about God, gods or goddesses (like my Christian mom). You can even throw away the idea that "the West" is becoming less religious, because as he explains, religion is a part of our humanity and is tied to the fact that we're social beings. Religion is "eminently social" and I'd explain it here but Durkheim does a much better job than I could- even in translation.
religion began from shared feelings of group security..........2005-05-16
In this book Durkheim examines the origins of religion. He explains that religion developed from the collective feelings of security we gain from living in a group, and that these feelings are very powerful and important to us. Early tribes passed these feelings onto which ever object they were close to or the most frequent object in their area at the time of experiencing the emotions. The object could include a plant, vegetable or an animal, which would then be represented in a carving of stone or wood and then worshipped. This for Durkheim is the beginning of totemism, the first religion. He follows on to discuss how our first religion gave us an understanding of the world around us, our conception of space and time. For Durkheim 'the framework of our intelligence' is made up of the concepts of space, time, numbers and our existence, and they were born 'in religion'.
What emerges is no mere dry academic treatise, but an absolutely fascinating journey through topics such as the rain dances of the Pueblo Indians, the finger exercises of monkeys, and the hallucinations of alcoholics. Durkheim, of course, is the father of modern sociology and anthropology and even though sociology and anthropology have rejected many of his theories over the years he is still worth reading because the state of modern sociology and anthropology is polluted with all sorts of assumptions that are mostly politically correct eather than factually correct. The predominant belief that "we have come a long way since 1912" is completely misleading. Even though the fundamental assumption upon which Durkheim's work is based, that aboriginal practices are religion at its most basic and primitive, is no longer accepted as necessarily true - this theory was also current in Durkheim's time and he also discusses it over several chapters and effectively refutes it.
Durkheim's writing is suprisingly easy to read and very enjoyable. His examination of early societies gives much insight into their lives and how they understood the world to be. It's a fascinating read for anybody interested in human nature and early cultures. This is one of the three books that impacted me the most in my life.
Still worth reading.......2003-11-06
Durkheim, of course, is a father of modern sociology and anthropology. Even though sociology and anthropology have rejected many of his theories over the years he is still worth reading. I think that many of his ideas can still provide useful ways to think about society and culture; this work may be a bit out-of-date but it's definitely not obsolete. Either way, anyone interested in sociology or anthropology should read this work, if only to get a better understanding of where these disciplines have been. Fields' new translation gives this old work new clothing and is well worth the investment.
