Book Description
life is more then rutine..........2005-08-19

Great, Vintage Mager.......2000-08-29
This title is a great part of the Mager Six Pack. It is a primer for every manager who has yet to see the light as to the power of well postioned, designed, and delivered training. Very practical, but non-threatening. Can be very useful if you're looking for executive support for training and development.

Never Received.......2007-09-21
I have yet to receive this book and it has been over a month. I am very displeased with this seller and will not purchase from them again.
Loved it!.......2007-06-01
I've read all three books in this series and I have to say that I enjoyed all of them. So much so that I'd really like for Johanna to continue on with this series like she did with the Mallory clan. I love the Mallory's, but I think this series could definitely be their futuristic rival when it comes to a great read by J.L.
Are you kidding me?.......2005-12-03
It's okay for a man to physically punish a woman who goes against a man's wishes, because according to the main female character, "I might not have appreciated it at the time, but I knew it was only done for my own good."
Wow. Yeah, that's a great message to send to women. Because, you know... men are perfect and always right and can't do wrong, and women shoudn't have an opinion of their own anyway (or think for themselves). I was surprised the words "it hurts me more than you" didn't pop up, but it was a close thing.
*smacks author upside the head with her own book*
The female character's motives were laughable in this book. The writer made them seem deliberately naive and pig headed, simply so that her male domineering characters could have reasons to punish them. Ladies, is it really romantic to be treated like children who can't make simple decisions without conferring with the male figures in our lives?
There was a distinct cheese flavored storyline to go along with the horribly bland cracker characters as well. It left a nasty aftertaste, this book. I'm sorry, but it offended me too much to add anything else. Just don't bother reading it.
2 stars, because at least the plot made sense.
Saviour of anyone who's about to buy this........2005-08-11
Dont do it! Whatever you do! do not click on the "Buy this item button" trust me! I got the book read it and read lots of others, if you just finished reading something better by this author, or just finished a book by Judith Macnaught...Just turn away. Back off! This is where the romance ends!
Why?
This book is rubbish! The story is about this princess from another planet, think futuristic, the women of this world are dominated by any man after their first time with -You catch my drift- So when the herione of the story (Whom I forgot her name) Is betrothed to this man (Also forgot the name) he claims her with the blessing of her parents too, and ofcourse she rebels against him not wanting him and all that...blah blah...for reasons that are so incredious I raised a brow at the idiotic phraises, I mean I can talk better than that!!
I mean if your looking for romance, search on try something else! I'm offended that it had four stars which it did not deserve! Frankly I think I'm being too generous with this one star, real rubbish !
Go try something by Gaelen Foley, she's new but atleast she know's how to keep a story interesting with wonderful characters that would make your heart thump with every word they say.
If your still keen on this author try 'Once a princess' or a 'Gentle feuding'
<---which was the first novel I've ever read by this author...never forgot it.
Awesome Futuristic.......2005-06-02
I loved this book. Keeper of the Heart is just as good as Warrior's Woman the first part of the series. I really liked that the hero Falon had feelings. I really liked his character all together and that he pursued Shallen the heroine even though she rejected him. Shallen was a funny "I wish I was her" character. I enjoyed Martha and Brock in this book. In the other books Martha can be a very annoying character. I was very glad on how everything blended in from the first book very nicely and Lindsey did a good job of not over explaining things since this book can be read without reading the first one. That was a main problem with her third book Heart of a Warrior everything was over explained. I really enjoyed Keeper of the Heart and though I read it a few days ago I'm itching to read it again. Definately part of her best works. Just keep in mind that when reading a Sci Fi thats what it just is, the story is pretty much what the author makes it a big part of imagination unlike historicals where history and facts are used as part of the story.

Romance was overpowered by the mystery.......2006-03-15
From the back cover:
Light of her heart...
Morgan St. James was by far the most virile man Miranda Tallant had ever seen. From this thick locks of midnight silk to his well-muscled chest rippling with unchecked power, Miranda realized at once that this man was no ordinary lighthouse keeper. But while she did not know if he had come to investigate her family's smuggling or if he truly had been disinherited, one glance at his emerald-dark eyes promised her untold nights of desire.
Keeper of his love...
Bent on discovering the blackguards responsible for his friend's death, Morgan didn't expect to be caught up in the stormy sea of Miranda Tallant's turquoise eyes. The lovely widow consumed his every waking thought and his every dream with an all-encompassing passion. For while he could not abandon his duty to his friend and his faily, he knew that he could not rest until Miranda's heart was his.
And my review:
I really liked this author's writing style, but the romance in this story was too weak for me to bother finishing this book. I felt that the relationship between the hero and the heroine was developing well, when all of the sudden they had their hands all over each other. I want more than lust pulling the characters together. Lust is not enough to build a lasting relationship on.
The author also didn't develop the characters as fully as I would have liked. I couldn't really see what would draw them together, apart from mutual physical attraction. At first Morgan was a nice guy, but once he decided that he wanted Miranda, he became a domineering neanderthal. He got this "I want you, and I'm going to have you no matter what you say about it." attitude that really annoyed me and made me not like him anymore. Some readers might find this romantic, but I don't. From the skimming I did, it appears that Morgan doesn't go so far as to actually force himself on Miranda, but he gets pretty close.
Also, the author introduced a little side plot where the Reverand's wife, Dinah, tries to seduce him. Neri ended the scene so abruptly that I didn't know whether Morgan was turning her down, or taking her up on her offer. Even after skimming through the rest of the book, I couldn't find the answer to this question. If it wasn't necessary to the plot, why introduce it? And I hate men who sleep with other men's wives. (How would they like it if the situation was reversed?)
The author spent so much time developing the mystery that it overpowered the romance. And even the mystery wasn't compelling enough to make me keep reading. I may try another of this author's books in the future, but only if I don't have to pay for it. I wouldn't recommend this book, unless you're a die-hard fan of this author.
Delightful read.......2000-06-06
I gave this a 4 because the story and writing talent were better than many books I have read. This is the first book I have read by Penelope Neri and I hope to find more in my local stores. I loved the characters. Miranda is a strong woman who knows what she wants. Morgan is a strong person but is so sweet. Not like so many heros in the books I read and I read about 3 a week. The story was different and keeps your interest throughout the book. I also love the way she writes. Lots of dialgue without all the pondering of issues and feelings in so many other books. I look forward to reading more of her work and hope others will let people know about her by writing their comments.

Book Description
Within every federation and every empire, behind every hero and every villain, there are the worlds that define them. In the aftermath of Unity and in the daring tradition of Spock's World, The Final Reflection, and A Stitch in Time, the civilizations most closely tied to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine can now be experienced as never before...in tales both sweeping and intimate, reflective and prophetic, eerily familiar and utterly alien.
TRILL: They are a people with secrets. For centuries they kept their true nature hidden, even taking disturbing steps to protect the small population of near-immortal symbionts with whom a privileged few Trill are joined, body, mind, and soul. They are a people who hold memory to be sacred, yet deny their own past. Now amid a whirlwind of scandal, accusations, and growing civil unrest, Ezri Dax must penetrate millennia of lies and deceptions, and rediscover what should never have been forgotten, before her civilization rips itself apart.
BAJOR: The honeymoon is over. Following the euphoria of Bajor's marriage to the Federation, the real business of making that union
work has begun. But even on a world where politics and religion are intertwined, conflicting visions of Bajor's role in the interstellar arena divide the planet's leadership. As newly minted Captain Kira Nerys sets the tone for the kind of Starfleet officer she will be, First Minister Asarem makes a bold move to define Bajor's voice in the Federation, while the returned Benjamin Sisko prepares for a future
that only he, as yet, can see.
Customer Reviews:
astropolitics and intrigue.......2007-01-19
The first part of this volume on Trill was average overall but had it's moments where I thought some starting revelation would reveal itself or some amazing discovery would be made. There has been so much written about the "secrets" of the Trills, but the apparent "secret" isn't all that extrodinary. The revelation which was made doesn't do much to change the direction of the series but we do learn a little more about the origin of the parasites.
I liked the second part (Bajor) much better because we learn what's going on with Sisco and his family and get back into the politics of Bajor which has always been interesting. There are two things which happen in this part which sort of changes the direction of the series. Something happens with Jake and a startling discovery is made. The startling discovery has to do with a destroyed village on Bajor and an Orb. Certain facts have led to the conclusion that there is a mole on board Deep Space Nine.
nice story.......2005-06-03
the first story has to do with the planet of trill. there are riots among the people who are not joined with simbionts. they want equal standing and the truth of the history of the past that has been so well hidden. when the rioting is at it's worse, ezra embarks on a dangerous journey to find the truth. what she finds out could either help or destroy trill.
i thought that this story was well thought out and a real pleasure to read.
the second story is about bajor. according to the back of the book, captain kira would play a big role in the story. she was thrown in almost as an afterthought. the story spent too much time jumping to too many unknown people to be really interesting, and they spent too much time on sisko and his everyday life. there is a nice piece on jake though. any kira fans will be sadly disappointed. the small part she has was so predictable they might as well have left it out.
I enjoyed both stories.......2005-04-08
The Trill story is fantastic, although it does not start out that way. It begins with a now typical Trek story: the people of Trill are frightened, and thus angry at their government, which happens to be habitually secretive, and the extremists are turning to violence. The characterisations are good, although they seem a little lacking in depth. The descriptions are very good, although sometimes they get a bit wordy and excessive. Do they need to describe everything, even once-off things that don't impact the story? What the characters do, and their commentary on why, is very clearly written and done well. The authors have a neat trick of switching to minor characters to describe what Bashir or Dax is doing, and why, which also works very well.
I found the story to be good but not particularly exciting or unique, up to the middle where one of the characters informs Dax that she's going where no one has gone before ... on her own home planet. After that, it's incredible. It has everything: a society on the verge of total chaos, desperate combat scenes, heroic medical drama, and moral debates. Most impressive of all was the voyage of discovery made by Dax. I enjoyed this story tremendously.
The Bajor story is a love story, along with catching us up on the lives of everyone not in another Worlds story, and events on Bajor generally. The characterisations are excellent, as they need to be since they are the core of the story. The descriptions are vivid instead of specific; we are told what we need to see rather than everything (in some contrast to the first story). That worked well. The event scenes (only some qualify as `action' scenes) are clear and well written. The story starts off very low key and took some time to get going. However, the plotting of the romance was good, if perhaps with a rushed ending, and worked in well with the other parts of the story. The one major complaint I have is that the epilogue was full of vague `A Big Threat is Coming' ruminations. There is enough of a transition feel to this story that waving the fact in our faces was quite unnecessary. This story did not impress me as much as the first did, but I enjoyed it quite a lot as well.
Another solid chapter in the DS9 saga.......2005-03-23
I had not expected to like the story set on Trill, being that I've developed nothing but distain for Ezri and Julian during the past few books, but I found Julian to be incredibly sympathetic during this tale, and while Ezri was still annoying, the scene were she descended into the depths of the symbiot pools was fascinating. The movement on the Julian/Ezri relationship was, I think, a long time coming, but it still hit me like a shot in the guts. I'm looking forward to see where this storyline goes. This story (and most of the relaunch for that matter) has done a nice job on taking one of the lamest TNG episodes and making something interesting and entertaining out of it.
The Bajor story was probably my favorite so far in the mini-series. The continuation of Jake's story stood out as a high point, though I would have liked to have seen a longer courtship with his new love interest. Again, I find it interesting that these stories are going back to some of the older (and in some cases hokier) episodes and adding depth and meaning to those stories. I also LOVED the references to my story, Ha'mara.
All in all, this book was pretty solid. I can't wait to see where all this is going.
two very different worlds.......2005-02-26
This, like the other worlds of deep space nine books contains two different stories that focus on one of the worlds and the characters from that world that make up the star trek universe. These are two of the better written, and do push the characters and the story line into different paths.
Trill develops the relationship of the trills further, shows a civilation at war with itself and shows the concequences of political secrets.
Bajor really is more a pleasent read that a complete story. It raises a lot of questions, but does not answer them. You need to read additional books to find out. It does have some interesting characterizations, but is a little shallow.
In that, the whole series is becoming like a Saturday Movie series with its clift hanger endings.
These are cheap shots to keep readers. When you buy a book, it should be complete, not just an episode in the series. Having to buy two books to get the complete story is a cheat, and will loose the interest in readers who want complete stories.

Bestselling author Sharon Salzberg explores the meaning of faith through her personal story about a harrowing childhood of isolation and loss (a father's abandonment, a mother's early death) and her eventual journey into the Buddhist tradition. The overriding message, explains Salzberg, is that faith is "not superficial or sentimental: it does not say everything will turn out all right." So what is faith, if not trust in a happy ending? Salzburg, the cofounder of the Insight Meditation Society, explains that faith resides not in the outcome, but in the willingness to see the possibility for change.
"The first step on the journey of faith is to recognize that everything is moving onward to something else, inside us and outside.... We see that a self-image we've been holding doesn't need to define us forever, the next step is not the last step, what life was is not what it is now, and certainly not what it might yet be."
Like the great teachers of Buddhism, Salzberg relies on her stories to make the teachings relevant. She shifts effortlessly from the voice of a memoirist to the voice of a master teacher. Through her insights, we come to understand faith as a verb. Faith means never giving up on the possibilities of each moment, always seeing "our own potential for happiness, for vibrant wisdom and sustained compassion--a potential that all beings share." --Gail Hudson
Book Description
In this beautifully written work, one of America's most beloved meditation teachers offers discerning wisdom on understanding faith as a healing quality. Through the teachings of Buddha and insight gained from her lifelong spiritual quest, Salzberg provides us with a road map for cultivating a feeling of peace that can be practiced by anyone of any tradition.
Customer Reviews:
Great insight.......2007-02-09
I have read one other book on Buddhism "Plain & Simple" by Steven Hagen and have been fascinated with the "alternative" outlook (alternative to most established religions) because of the fact that Buddhism is more about your own personal journey and discovery, than the preachings of religious institution. It also seems to be more "reality-based" in that is based on our own experiences rather than dogma. I first became aware of Sharon Salzberg through meaningoflife.tv where she is one of the interviewees. Her incredible calm and soothing confidence seems to leap through the screen. If you have any interest in deeper spiritual questions etc. check that site out.
As far as this book is concerned, I found it very generally to be very enjoyable. Her insights and experiences are very valuable in trying to use for ourselves in our own attempts to be aware and mindfull. The only reason I gave the book 3 stars is that it does have a bit of the "self-help" kind of feel to it at times, but this is probably more a reflection of my personal bias against that literary genre, than any major shortcoming of this book. I fully recommend this book, Ms. Salzberg's wisdom, and the mindfull path.
Truly Inspiring!.......2005-12-19
What is faith? To many it may mean the strict adherence to religious dogma, and/or the reason we may have been told not to question long-held beliefs - we are supposed to just "have faith" in the "rightness" of what we are being taught... Right???
However, in "Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience", Sharon Salzberg points out a quite different definition of faith. Faith, she says, comes about by our willingness to question what we've been taught - to ask ourselves if our experiences match what has been taught to us - do these teachings truly resonate with your soul?
Sharon also describes faith as our willingness to believe in ourselves - to believe that we have a right to be here, and a right to be happy. To be able to get through the bad times by having faith that it will get better - that change is inevitable, and some changes may be painful, but that we can get through it.
All of the ideas discussed in this book are intimately associated with the authors life - so you get to see how this one woman journeyed from a place of complete & utter pain and devastation, to a place where she has found faith. It's easy to relate to her and to all of the people she talks about - which has helped to make this book a very interesting, enjoyable read.
Although many of the ideas discussed are from a buddhist point of view, you do not have to be a buddhist to gain the wonderful insights provided - it's definitely a book for all people.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in spirituality - especially those who feel as if they are on a spiritual journey. It's a wonderfully written, interesting, enjoyable read - and as such, it has much to give.
life changing.......2005-01-11
I have spent the better part of my life searching for the elusive cure for depression, fear and anxiety. Complicated matters, indeed. Something that occured to me along the way that I was raised without religion and that the lack of faith in my life may contribute to my suffering. It seemed to me that there were so many people who had something to believe in, something to soothe their tormented soul. So many seemed to have a god who would carry them to safety. I didn't. Believe it or not I typed the word "faith" into the search engine and up popped this book. I bought it not having any clue that I was about to be introduced to Buddhism. To call this story, this author, life changing doesn't do it justice. I must have engaged in right action and right thought more than a few times in my life because karmically Sharon Salzburg was brought to me when I needed her most. All of my questions about life and especially death were answered in the most uplifting yet simple way. I am really not afraid any more. I haven't become a Buddhist because of this book. I just live the best I can and lean on the teachings when I need to be reminded about what makes life the most peaceful and fulfilling. I lean on Buddhism when I am afraid. It hasn't let me down yet.
The Best Book On Faith Out There.......2004-03-22
Faith in a theological context for many people is an act of belief in what one cannot prove. It has been used as a line drawn between those who "believe" and those who do not in a Christian context. But Salzberg's intent in this wonderful text drives at providing us all with a fresh perspective of what faith really is; a definition unassociated with doctrine and theology. A kind of faith in oneself, emphasizing a love and respect for ourselves. This kind of faith unearths our connection to all people, not a faith used as a tool of making you or I a separate entity. Faith doesn't necessarily require belief, it is a trust. A trust in ourselves through a waking up to who we really are. It does not necessarily denote a God, or even no God.
In the book Salzberg discusses her painful youth; she lost her mother very early on and her father was mentally ill. In 1968, Sharon came across Buddhism in a course on Asian philosophy, where she learned of the teachings of the Lord Buddha. She remembers feeling instantly drawn to his messages, in particular the Four Noble Truths. A few years later she was in India at Bodh Gaya doing her first meditative retreat. From that point on for a number of years, Sharon studied with teachers in Burma, Tibet, and India; experiences that ultimately affected her view on just what faith truly means in her life.
This book is the absolute best out there on the subject of faith, and I say that for people of any religion. Salzberg relies on both her years of experience and impressive array of teachers that always challenged her in bringing us this magnificent book.
Salzberg: "Faith is the ability to offer our heart to the truth of what is happening, to see our experience as the embodiment of life's mystery, the present expression of possibility, the conduit connecting us to a bigger reality."
Seeking Truth.......2004-03-15
I purchased this book wanting to see someone else's spiritual journey and while there is an element of that journey the book is more about looking for your own personal truth. I think that is a hard thing for most American's to grasp, the idea that a spiritual journey is not just about finding a "God" but really about finding yourself.
Very enjoyable read with nice insights. Well worth the read.
