Book Description
For fifty years, Anna Schlemmer has refused to talk about her life in Germany during World War II. Her daughter, Trudy, was only three when she and her mother were liberated by an American soldier and went to live with him in Minnesota. Trudy's sole evidence of the past is an old photograph: a family portrait showing Anna, Trudy, and a Nazi officer, the Obersturmführer of Buchenwald.
Driven by the guilt of her heritage, Trudy, now a professor of German history, begins investigating the past and finally unearths the heartbreaking truth of her mother's life.
Combining a passionate, doomed love story, a vivid evocation of life during the war, and a poignant mother-daughter drama, Those Who Save Us is a profound exploration of what we endure to survive and the legacy of shame.

Powerful and poignant.......2007-09-16
Jenna Blum has written a powerful, sometimes piercing portrayal of someone who I suspect could be herself and her relationship with her own mother..yet it is a novel so the story does not need to be verified... the book was definitely worth reading.
Amazing story.......2007-09-09
This turned out to be one amazing story and told exactly how it happened. The only problem I found was that the author didn't complete the story to my satisfaction. I would have wanted to know what happened with Trudy's life and with Anna's....going further than the author carried it...but in all, it was truly a page turner and there was so much truth and validicity to it.
Read This Book!.......2007-09-08
There are very few books I've read lately that I literally have not been able to put down. This is one of them! Gripping from the very beginning, this story is riveting and thought provoking. It really makes one wonder what they would do if placed in the same position. I also must admit, I was teary at the very end. Please read this book. You will be glad you did. Note - I am deliberately saying nothing about the plot, I don't want to give ANYTHING away!!
those who saved us.......2007-08-31
one of the best books i read this year. it gave you insight into the people who were human beings and how they coped with war.
COULD'T PUT IT DOWN.......2007-07-19
This is a very sensitive, intrigueing book about a horrible time in history. The characters are so real that you feel like you know them personally. Loved it.

Virginal and voluptuous, Grace Jenkins has secretly loved and lusted after handsome Noah Harper for three years but he was engaged and, therefore, off-limits. Then Noah walks in on his bride-to-be with another man and abruptly breaks off the engagement, refusing to explain the reason for the canceled wedding to his family. His grandmother and his fiancée's family are outraged. Grace rushes to defend him and is stunned when Noah responds by taking her straight to bed. She thinks this is only mutual lust and decides to enjoy the excitement for as long as it lasts while Noah quickly discovers that what he feels for Grace is much more complicated than simple lust. But convincing Grace is another matter entirely--she refuses to see herself as a permanent part of his life. Meanwhile, Noah's ex-fiancée is stirring up trouble with his autocratic grandmother and before she's done, Noah will have to reevaluate his relationship with his grandmother, Grace will have a whole new self-image, and both will face major upheaval in their careers and personal lives.
Author Lori Foster has a reputation for warm, engaging characters combined with sizzling sexual tension and Too Much Temptation has plenty of both. The dominant theme in this novel, however, is that of a woman's sexual awakening and Foster traverses this tricky ground with deft skill. --Lois Dyer

May not be the worst book I've ever read..........2007-08-25
...but it is the worst one I can think of.
Chubby virgin (I think her name was Gracie, but it doesn't really matter) meets sexy man with big c__k and becomes his sex slave. After that, they fall in love and live happily ever after or something (I started skimming after around page 150, just so I wouldn't have to gouge my eyes out).
Basically, the story is a thin set of scenes to play out between the porn.
Skip this garbage!
Everything that Lori Foster writes is amazing - Enjoy!.......2007-06-03
When you wake up early on a Sunday morning to finish a novel - you know it's good! This novels graps you at the first page. My husband asked me if it was a good book and I said yes - I was on page 8! Grace works for Noah's rich bossy grandmother. Grace has always loved Noah and Noah has check her out a few times. Grace goes to Noah's home after his grandmother disowns him and finds him 1/2 undressed and drunk - and needing Grace....
Hot Hot Hot!!!.......2007-03-23
I Loved the Temptation series. They were hot, fun, fiesty, full of drama without being overt. Or maybe I should say they were just right for me. I will continue to enjoy her series, and anyone who doesn't... well there are plenty of other books to read!
Sensual with an Emotional Depth.......2006-08-23
I had to think about it for a moment whether this was a four or five star because some parts of this book just seem too good to be true...ex. chubby chick gets the totally hot guy, but the author does a good job of making it feel real so I just feel it deserves the five stars.
Noah is the grandson and heir of a wealthy socialite who plans to marry a woman his grandmother hand picked for him. When he walks in on his fiance in bed with another man he is actually relieved. Noah never loved Kara, he was just marrying her to make everyone else happy. His only regret is that calling off the marriage will hurt a lot of people, Kara's parents and his grandmother. Noah plays the gentleman and tells Kara he won't reveal the reason for their breakup.
Grace is the 25 year old virgin administrative assistant to Noah's grandmother. She's so motherly and effecient, that everyone including Noah, his grandmother and his brother Ben love her to pieces. She's secretly loved Noah since she met him 3 years ago, but knows he would never look at someone like her. She is overweight and men never are interested in her. When Noah's grandmother fires him and threatens to disown him, Grace is angered. She tells his grandmother that he would only break up with Kara for a good reason and then runs over to comfort Noah. Grace finds Noah boozing it up with brother Ben. When she shows up at his place Noah comes on to her. They do not have sex but Noah is comforted to find someone who cares for him and believes in him without knowing what happened.
When Noah wakes up the next morning he regrets his treatment of Grace because he knows she is the marrying kind although he's always secretly had the hots for her and he only wants sex right now, not a relationship. Grace lets him know that sex is fine with her. Noah agrees to a sex only relationship but demands to be in charge in the bedroom. Grace ends up getting fired when his grandmother finds out about their relationship.
What happens next is Noah's grandmother plots to get him back in her life and the engagement back on and to rehire Grace. She hasn't got a clue. Noah fights his growing feelings for Grace and then happily gives in to them. Grace goes to work for Noah's brother Ben as a waitress and convinces herself that Noah is only needing a temporary diversion, he couldn't possibly want a chubby girl like herself. Kara finally has to admit the real reason behind the breakup. Grace and Noah are complete opposites, but still seem alike. They are so perfect you can't help but root for them.
This book is humorous, emotional and mildly erotic. I hesitate to use the term erotic, because it is not pornographic in nature but sweetly sensual. The love scenes are a bit more intense and more frequent than your average romance, but not that graphic. I can't wait for brother Ben's story. I hope there is one?
Like cotton candy... sweet, but insubstantial.......2006-07-25
This is a modern-day fairy tale, with the predictable happy ending, by way of many raunchy, though not particularly sensual, bedroom scenes.
The main character, Grace can simply do no wrong - too sweet, too unselfish, too undemanding ... in fact, apart from being overweight, too damn perfect ... so perfect it was downright annoying
And it's not just Grace. EVERY character in this book is essentially and fundamentally nice, and even those characters who don't seem so at first, turn out to be simply misunderstood. Yeah, right. Get off your cloud, already!
However, it would be unfair to say I hated the book or thought it was a waste of time. Oddly enough, despite the characters, and corny dialogue, this was a fairly entertaining and thoroughly unchallenging read i.e. for a day on the beach, you could do a lot worse.

Customer Reviews:
read for the middle section only.......2007-02-21
Aliens in film and literature tend to be highly anthropomorphized. They are usually humanoid, or else they resemble some form of earth life, like insects or lizards. In this book, Asimov gives us aliens who are really alien. There is nothing cliche about their body type, their life cycle, their culture, or their motivations. The only thing familiar about them is their emotions, and I think that makes sense. If readers can't understand why the characters do what they do, then the book would fail completely.
Even better is that the aliens are not treated as "others" viewed from a human perspective. There are no human characters in the middle section. The action is therefore seen from the aliens own point of view. Everything makes sense to them, so things aren't explained as if they were unusual. This makes it difficult to understand the aliens at first, because their culture is shown from an insider's perspective. Things slowly get clearer as their relationships, their desires, and even their gestures, become more familiar and begin to make sense.
This is the most original, inventive treatment of intelligent alien life I've ever encountered. If you must, read only the middle section of the book to understand why it is so special. The rest is standard Asimov fare: a sort of interesting premise, but written in a style drier than dust.
Christmas Day Ragglemorph: Snow White Falls on Black Beauty and We Call the Impact a Scandal.......2006-12-26
This book substantiates the unpopular reality that Mr. Asimov is bluster and hype. I have yet to encounter anything of his pen that warrants a positive adjective. Clearly, the factory has consumed the wayward crickets & dumbfounded sparrows; consequently, the gentleman's legend enters a room 10 yards previous to his apparition. The phantasm should not be mocked--the man has his legions and he is entitled to the throngs--but a scrutinous qualification of what denotes & defines interesting literature should be taken under wing. This book, like his other books, never yields a jolt and I asseverate that it was not worth the nickel that was extracted from my lint-infested pocket to pay its way into my library. BOREDOM.
Hugo and Nebula awards? How?.......2006-10-11
I frankly cannot believe it won both Hugo and Nebula awards.
Terribly boring with stereotypical charcters. Even the aliens whose eating, living, mating, and reproducing habits are completely different from humans, seemed to have emotional and psychological habits remarkably like humans.
This is the second book I read of Asimov, and both times, I wondered what the point was to put incredibly typical and mundane characters in an extraordinary situation and make them think and say very ordinary things. Maybe it was newish back in the 70s, I don't know.
But the alien life in Part 2, was enjoyable, kind of cute, and fun to read. In order to understand Part 2, you would need to go through Part 1. And if you've read until the end of Part 2, you might as well read it until the end. In that sense, it is a fairly readable book.
Really bad.......2006-09-26
I picked this up at the library since I didn't recall reading it. What a horrible borefest. It drags on and on and on. Even the first few chapters are completely repetetive. In short, he had a poor three-part short story that he turned into a dreadful three part novel.
The Gods Themselves.......2006-06-17
Six years ago I was friends with a very smart girl at UCLA. Since she was so smart I thought I would ask her what she read. (This proves that I do read books that people recommend to me: I just might be a bit late in reading them). She recommended that I read the book, The Gods Themselves, written by sci-fiction author, Issac Asimov. There is no doubt that the author is incredibly intelligent and well-versed in the field of science. However, the man is not very good at character development. The story does delve into a lot of interesting scientific knowledge (a great deal of which goes over my head but was still intriguing). The problem I had with the book is the character formation. The characters seem wooden, stiff, and unlikable. I couldn't feel really connected to any of the characters. They just didn't have any intriguing personalities.
Great literature introduces the reader to incredible characters; Iago in Othello; Falstaff in Henry IV; Yossarian in Catch-22; Pick in Great Expectations; Dagny Taggart in Atlas Shrugged. That's absent in the book, which is perhaps its greatest limitation.

very cute story with a great message.......2002-08-02
This is a very cute book for kids about behaving in church. This goes in to detail about the ways that kids can disrupt church. At the end of the book there are a list of questions to discuss with your child.

REQUIRED READING.......1999-12-24
If I could mandate required reading for all American children ALL George Seldes books would be on the list; this one in particular. I would like to send a copy of this book to all Home Schooled children and tell their parents that unless the child read and studied these books they would not be passed to the next grade, or graduate. George Seldes is the only truly Honest writer of the 20th century. As an American I can state honestly, he is the only American Author that makes me proud to be an American.
Out-of-print, but not forgotten.......1999-05-14
If there were an award given for journalistic endurance during the 20th century, and if it were given fairly, George Seldes would be the runaway winner. "Even the Gods Can't Change History" is one of a long line of books Seldes wrote on the stories he covered between 1909 and the late 1930s. It adds his commentary on more recent developments, including the Watergate scandal and media coverage of it, and journalism's sacred cows of the late 20th century. Seldes, writing while in his eighties (he died in 1995 at age 104), describes the hidden stories of the end of World War I and the U.S. role in deciding the outcome, the origins of the Cold War as French Marshal Ferdinand Foch began a campaign of public statements on containing Bolshevism, and accounts on post-war Russia, Italy, Ireland, the Arab world and Spain. The ongoing theme of George Seldes's writings is that of the failure of U.S. media to tell the story truthfully. For the facts to speak for themselves, they need to reach the people. Seldes's probe into truth in journalism is as vital today as it was when published in 1976. Though this book is out of print (sadly, my local public library had withdrawn it as well), with a bit of perseverence the interested reader can get much of Seldes's take on the same events in some of his other books. If you can't find "Even the Gods Can't Change History," try "Witness to a Century," another Seldes volume that covers the historic events in his impeccable reporting career.

Book Description
In this classic account of the Western esoteric path of initiation, Steiner leads the student from the cultivation of reverence and inner tranquility to the development of inner life through the stages of preparation, illumination, and initiation. Practical exercises in inner and outer observation and moral development are described.
By patiently and persistently following these suggestions, new "organs" of soul and spirit begin to form, revealing the contours of higher worlds that had been concealed from us. Here, Rudolf Steiner is available as teacher, counselor, and friend. His advice is practical, clear, and powerful.
Customer Reviews:
A classic in the field.......2007-01-03
While this may be described as one of Steiner's "basic" books, the label is a little misleading. Perhaps a better one would be "foundational", in that it forms a foundation for understanding his other works. "How to Know Higher Worlds" is also a classic, originally written between 1904 and 1906, from the point of view of one who has walked the path himself. Highly recommended.
depths of perception.......2006-01-30
This book carries you into depths of perception, but uses simplicity as its guide. Steiner appears to believe in slow and easy, yet persistant. If one is willing, this book offers a way into the connection of our higher forces, and how they act upon us, through us, with us. With exact despription of techniques and understanding towards the goal, this literature begs the reader to come to your own comprehension. Out of your own experience, within this framework, on should find the way to higher perception, and contented understanding. If you're for real, this information is for real....give it a try
A book to show you the way.......2004-09-10
Steiner explains in this great guide the reasons why we should walk the spiritual path to self-realization and how this happens if we so decide find the courage to do it. He talks about karma, higher beings, higher worlds, reincarnation, initiation, etc based on his own experiences. He also gives many practical excercises in it.
Steiner who had a highly developed intellect and spiritual faculties well-awakened makes use of his genius to explain the path in a simple and easy to understand way. I was shocked at how easy it was for me to read it, compared to some of his other important writings!
This book is essential and extremely important for anyone who is interested in learning about the path and higher worlds.
Also highly recommended is Samael Aun Weor who also wrote extensively as Steiner did.
A Manual for Living in this World.......2004-01-30
Even if one is not interested in knowing about and experiencing higher worlds, this book is a great guide to living, full of wisdom and insight. A true spiritual path is also a path toward becoming a mature human being, which may not be terribly exciting to people seeking spiritual fireworks or wanting to promote egoistic aims. This path is one of selflessness and the strengthening of attention; both needed in an self-centered world suffering from an ever increasing attention deficit disorder. Steiner only speaks of what he has experienced personally. He is not a guru and expects no one to take his word for the truth of what he says. He encourages one to be open minded, try the exercises with patience and consistency(harder than one might think)and verify the truth for one's self.
glittery feel-good, ego-flattering, metaphysical fairy tales.......2003-02-21
Like Blavatsky and Bailey, twisted scripture, lies and theosophical racism paraded within the modern myth of "spiritual evolution" about sums it up.
