5 Stars Excellent .......2007-07-01
If you want to get stronger for any throwing aspect of baseball. Outfield infield and especially pitching, I highly suggest you purchase this manual. I was amazed with this manual when I purchased it. There are so many different exercises that you can do and most important it comes with complete workout logs. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a good workout on the Internet but never put it to a good use. This is not just a workout book it's a total program.
Each Phase of your training comes with days of logs. It works you into the different strength exercises so you'll never have a problem with doing one of the many many workouts in this book. Each day is set out for you. You know exactly what you have to do. If you have any kind of will power to become a stronger and better athlete, one that will make it to college and professional level, you will have no problem using this guide. There is no planning or brainstorming of activities to do. Everything's right there for you just do the included warm-up exercises and start your PRE-PLANNED routine.
This is such a great program that I strongly suggest for any serious baseball athlete.
For the serious pitcher only.......2007-05-16
This is an excellent book to have if you don't have access to those expensive ex-pro coaches or baseball clinics.
TuffCuff Strength and Conditioning Manual for Baseball Pitchers.......2007-02-08
I found the manual to be very well laid out.The pictures and explanations
for each of the drills were easy to understand.I have been using the program in our winter gym sessions and the players not only show improvment but are having fun doing the drills. I would highly recommend this manual to others

Here's a way to improve in the off-season. .......2007-01-19
Two words: BROADER SHOULDERS. For those who want to pitch at a professional level or just want to get into better shape for the next season, this guide provides hundreds of photos and descriptions of exercises and stretches to help get you there. After two months of TUFFCUFF workouts three days a week, my 11th grade nephew has added 5 pounds of muscle and is throwing the ball harder and farther. We live in a cold weather area, so he has to skip some of the recommended exercises, such as two-handed throwing of a medicine ball inside a gym. But most exercises can be done with a treadmill, dumbells, and a small indoor workout space.
The guide is probably even more helpful for college level players who have more time to focus on workouts and have access to better equipment and facilities. It also contains a variety of graphs and guidelines for players to chart their progress as well as a recommended diet. This guide proves getting to the next level requires work, not steroids.

A Very complete guide that will help any athlete and an excellent resource for baseball players searching for how to train for their sport.
52-Week Baseball Training: A Comprehensive Review.......2001-08-16
This text represents a comprehensive look at the application of current principles of conditioning and training for the baseball player. It is an extremely well written text. Dr. Coleman does an excellent job of blending both the theoretical aspects of training with the practical aspects he knows to be viable because of his years of experience working with, not only major league players, but also younger players. The application of the concept of periodization to baseball conditioning is extremely important for the development of strength, power, speed, and agility. With improvement in these areas, the ability to enhance performance is optimized. The use of humor throughout the text also serves as a good buffer between the various theoretical sections. The Forward to the book by Nolan Ryan and the Introduction to the ýPhysical Demands of the Gameý set the stage for an extremely thorough look at the various aspects of conditioning that are involved in developing the baseball player. The examples of different players who developed at different rates indicate that players of all levels can benefit by applying the theories and programs presented in this text to their individual programs. Dr. Colemanýs presentation of a year-round periodization model blends the theoretical aspects of this type of training with the reality of the baseball season. By defining the plans as he has, Dr. Coleman provides the individual with an idea of what is expected throughout each training regime.
Specifically important in the first section is the workout order. Many players train very inefficiently. By Dr. Coleman delineating the optimal order for performance enhancement, players gets an idea of how to best plan their entire training program.
In Chapter One on Postseason training, his presentation of the dietary needs of the athlete for training is very concise and straightforward. He presents a good plan for maintaining fitness during this period of time. By organizing his Off-season training program (Chapter Two) by positions, he deals with one of the primary aspects of physical development--specificity of training. He shows that although there are general exercises that all can do, there are certain exercises that are position specific. In this section he presents a simple yet thorough presentation of dietary needs, which is quite important to the individual.
By including baseball specific drills in Chapter Three, Preseason One training, he again focuses on the need for specificity of training. The section on avoiding arm problems is very important because oftentimes players are overzealous about trying to get ready for the season. This can cause setbacks rather than getting them ready for the upcoming season. His concluding comments on fueling the body with supplements are extremely well stated. He writes, ýEating a diet high in carbohydrates and training hard are the best ergogenic aids available. They are safe, cheap, and effective.ý So many players today are looking for a quick and easy way to develop their physical abilities. In reality, the best way to do it as Dr. Coleman suggests is to eat right and work hard.
Also in this chapter, his baseball ratings test is a good guideline for players to use to see how much they have improved. Although his criteria may not be appropriate for the specific player, individual players can use this to measure gains over time. Monitoring themselves on these various parameters can provide two checks: 1) if their conditioning program is effective and 2) if they are over training and/or stale.
The Preseason Two chapter further emphasizes specificity of training when he discusses simulated innings training and fueling the body. His ten best food tips are a realistic look at the current state of society. Although it is ideal for people to prepare meals, in many cases this is not possible. His suggestions are well taken.
His In Season program (Chapter Five) focuses on the importance of maintaining what has been gained. At this time many players, because they are working on game specific drills, neglect things such as speed and agility. It is critical that Dr. Colemanýs comments be heeded in this section.
Under the section on running, he states, ýThe key to strength is intensity not volumeý. This relates to another important training concept ý overload. He focuses on how critical it is to be efficient in your training. Teaching players to train (and perform) better, not harder, is a critical element of successful coaching. An example with pitching is if you want to learn to pitch fast you should practice pitching fast.
The section on eating in popular restaurants discusses how important it is to eat a good diet. His examples of foods to order and foods to skip are quite good.
Part 2 of the text presents the meat of the material. Although I feel that this could have been placed at the beginning to give the reader an idea of what was to follow, I am sure Dr. Colemanýs decision to place them in this order is based on his background and skill in the field. He presents 16 principles at the beginning of Part 2. These are so critical in developing a sound philosophy of how to train. It is important that these be read and reread before a training program is developed.
Chapter Six discusses the importance of warm-up and cool down in the development of flexibility and in the optimization of training. It contains a series of game specific activities that can help prepare the performer. The use of diagrams and the description of these exercises are quite thorough and build a good base for his training program.
Chapter Seven on core strength training is quite well done. He describes circuit weight training; multiple set training, pyramid training, and four-day split training, along with six day split training. Although a little more detail could have been included in some of these descriptions, enough is presented for the reader to at least ask a conditioning coach for suggestions for developing an individualized program. He presents a concise model for designing the components of your strength program discussing the specifics of sets and reps.
Again, following with the practical nature of the book, the section on the ýdos and donýts of crunchesý is quite well stated. The pictures and descriptions of the daily core are very thorough and very informative. His use of various mediums including medballs and plyometrics points out how complex the field of training is today.
Chapter Eight dealing with the development of the shoulder, elbow, forearm, and hand is quite necessary for the development of throwing for both fielders and pitchers. His cautions about the exercises that can hurt your shoulder are very important. His rotator cuff program is very specific to the baseball player.
Speed (Chapter Nine) is an area that is often overlooked. His five key components to the development of speed concisely present all that is necessary for the individual. His description of the components of running helps the individual player in a very simplistic way ý what needs to be done to run fast. This goes back to specificity of training ý in order to run fast you must run fast.
Finally, Chapter Ten on power and the plyometric element of training to baseball is important. The use of medballs and bounding are quite critical to the complete development of the baseball player.
In conclusion, I feel that this is an excellent text that deals with a number of elements that the player must consider in conditioning. Baseball is not something that is just played during the season. You do not get better by just fielding more grounders or taking more swings. The physical abilities necessary to play the game must be developed. Fitness and conditioning for baseball must be a year-round project.
Excellent Resource!.......2001-04-25
Having trained both amateur and professional baseball players, I can say that Dr. Coleman continues to be at the forefront of strength and conditioning, particularly with respect to baseball. This book will be a useful resource for any player or coach wanting to reach peak baseball performance through improving strength, speed, and agility. I highly recommend this book!
Applying Science to Baseball.......2001-03-19
Applying exercise science to a ritually traditional sport is what Dr. Coleman has done with 52 Week Baseball Training. Excellent sections on scouting and seasonal training methods. I enjoyed the division of training into 5 phases with gradual intensity and specificity of training during those phases. Any strength trainer, exercise physiologist or coach that works with baseball/softball players will feather the pages of this book because it will be used and referred to so much. If only it came in hardcover!
A definitive, practical, effective program.......2001-03-16
Gene Coleman's 52-Week Baseball Training is a definitive, practical, effective program for the aspiring athlete to achieve and maintain top physical conditioning for baseball, whether competing for a spot in the major or minor leagues, or just enjoying softball league or sandlot games. Coleman provides day-by-day, week-by-week, season-by-season workouts (including resistance training, total conditioning exercises, and position-specific activities) in a training plan that can be applied in high school, college, and summer-league schedules. Highly recommended for all novice as well as seasoned players, Coleman's 52-Week Baseball Training is laid out in four sequential phases: Postseason (active rest and recovery); Off-Season (fitness training); Preseason (training to play); and In-Season (training to win).

Pleasantly surprised.......2007-07-10
"Angel" was my first JL book, so when I found out it was the last book in a 3-part series I HAD to buy the first two books. I finished "Brave the Wild Wind" in two short evenings and loved the entire book. I've read many of the Amazon reviews and the ones that surprise me the most are the ones that say that Jessie is not likeable. I liked her very much, but perhaps that was due to the fact that I kept in mind her age and upbringing. She's a tempestuous 18-year-old tomboy from a broken home, and I think she's brilliantly complex--emotionally immature but at the same time wise beyond her years. I can't wait to start "Savage Thunder" tonight!
This book is entertaining, passionate, and a very smooth read. I recommend it to anyone that loves a good story.
A Nice Read.......2005-09-12
I really liked the beginning of this book... how it drew me in and kept me turning the pages. It gave me the background I would need to understand why Jessie was the way she was.
Still, even with the background I was a bit turned off at just how hateful Jessie could be and sometimes for no real reason. The hatred for her mother I understood, but her actions towards others sometimes seemed "over the top". She came off as very cold. If Johanna wanted her character to come off that way, she did a very good job of it. Almost too good.
Chase was a great guy. He withstood Jessie's moods much better than any normal person would. Thankfully, Jessie did soften a bit by the middle of the book and the chemistry between them became more believable.
Although I found myself almost disgusted at Jessie at times, I did enjoy the story and grew to like her almost as much as I liked Chase. Their story had a nice ending and left me wanting more. I've just started the next book in the series and I don't think I am going to be disappointed. All in all, this book was a great read and a page turner for sure.
Sparks fly...........2005-07-26
This is a story of young women who finds herself running the ranch after her father dies. Her absentee mother returns to the ranch with her young son and a handsome stranger to turn her calm life upside down. This book reminds me of early Janet Dailey. If you are looking for standard romance novel this would good choice or Johanna Lindsey's current novel A Loving Scoundrel.
I've never met a more disagreeable couple.......2005-05-21
I've never come across a more unlikeable heroine. To be honest, I truly wanted to like this book, especially since I bought it based on reading reviews here.
Jesse Blair, the heroine is a spoilt, nasty piece of work. She is spiteful and cruel to her mother - no amount of excuses can exonerate her. Even though she comes round towards the end, and apologises... it doesn't make up for her bitchiness, and childish behavior.
Truly, I've never come across a more WHORE-RIBLE heroine, and the hero himself is selfish and dictated by his lust more than anything else. These two people seem to let their loins lead them, rather than their hearts. He would have no qualms bedding her - the daughter of a close friend, coz he thought she had been around. If he knew she was a virgin, he wouldn't have, coz he didn't want to marry her. What sort of bastard is that?
Still, it shows he doesn't even really like her. How can anyone? Like I said, all she does is scream in fury, stomp around and fly off the handle.
Some readers may call Jesse 'fiery', but in truth, she's not just a spoilt brat, she's cruel. You can tell it by reading between the lines - she rides her horse nearly to death, she takes out her anger on those around her, she tries to shoot to kill without remorse (shouldn't she at least feel a little conscience).... And she bares her body to men (not just the hero) without any shame.
Truly, I cannot understand why this book received 4 stars. The plot was okay, but the main characters sucked!
I give this 2 stars, coz I think it's too cruel to give 1 star. And I hardly ever give 2 stars.
Tomboy versus Pretty Boy.......2004-06-30
"Brave the Wild Wind" is the first in a trilogy set in the wilds of Wyoming. As a Lindsey historical romance, it doesn't disappoint on the passion factor. The hero and heroine have a love-hate relationship, but it's easy to see why they'd fall in love, and such a pleasure to watch them try to deny it.
Tough-as-nails Jessie is headstrong and has a fighting spirit that allows her to run a ranch by herself one minute and integrate with a renegade Cheyenne Indian band the next. Chase is the no-nonsense gambler whose devotion to his stepmother leads him into constant clashes with her daughter and ward, Jessie.
There's a lot of fun stuff in this book. First, the Indian scenes are a delight and include two fascinating characters: Jessie's closest friend White Thunder and the Sioux warrior Little Hawk. Jessie's mysterious illness is also engaging - how often do you see the heroine of a romance get obnoxiously sick all over the place? And Chase's little run-in with a robber brings to life a conflict over the ownership of Jessie's ranch. It is also nice to see the guy in danger for once, rather than the girl who needs rescuing!
More importantly, though, Chase and Jessie make a great couple. Their clashes energize the story and keep you reading all the way through.
The only real complaint I have is over what happened (or didn't) to Laton Bowdre. I also wasn't too fond of the last few chapters in Spain, but only because the situation with Rodrigo seemed a bit forced. However, these aren't enough to detract from the story, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
"Brave the Wild Wind" is a delight to read. Be sure to read its two sequels, "Savage Thunder" and "Angel," as well. "Savage Thunder" is my all-time favorite JL and the best of the trilogy, with White Thunder as the hot male lead.

Book Description
In this sequel to Nephilim and The Unholy Deception, events in the Middle East seem to be culminating in the fulfillment of ancient prophecies found in an unpublished Dead Sea Scroll that tells of a manifestation of hundreds of UFO's over the old city of Jerusalem and the revealing of the Antichrist. Book Three in the Nephilim Series.
Customer Reviews:
Very enjoyable book.......2007-05-15
This book is as the title suggests, very enjoyable. It gives a different light to UFO's and alien sightings. I would recommend this book. I am planning on buying hte other 2 books in the series.
This CAN'T be the final book!.......2006-09-21
LA Marzulli, The Revealing (Zondervan, 2004)
I am desperately confused. First, the Nephilim books were billed as a trilogy. Then came The Revealing, the cover of which changes the nomenclature to "The Nephilim Series." And then you get to the end of The Revealing, and it begs a book four. Then you go to L. A. Marzulli's website... and it still says trilogy.
Marzulli, you can't be that mean. Can you?
The Revealing opens not long after the events in Yemen that closed Unholy Deception. Mac and Johanen have to stop the Cadre from arranging the birth of the Antichrist. They managed to stop the major events of book two, but Al-Jazeera (of course) still managed to get some footage, and so everyone's still talking about the reappearance of the Bethlehem Star. Things are still headed for the end times, and Mac and Johanen are still trying to get in the Cadre's way.
Before you get to the end of the book, the most confusing thing about it is that characters from book two are either marginalized or disappear altogether from book three. Uri, who played such an important role in the first two books, only gets a few scenes; Mac's wife gets mentioned a few times, but gets no screen time; Roswell's daughter has disappeared without a trace. (For the first fifty pages or so, I had confused Nora, a new character in this book, with Roswell's daughter, whose name I can't recall.) But still, the action is satisfying, and the story cnotinues, though a good deal of things seem to be happening off-screen; much of the first two-thirds or so of the book feels like setup for something much bigger than this (in other words, a fourth book. You hear me, Mr. Marzulli?) As a result, the book carries over the feel from Unholy Deception of middle-book doldrums-- a curable affliction, certainly, as long as there's a satisfying ending.
What we have here is most assuredly not satisfying at all. Can't say what happens at the end without spoilers, but I can say that there is no resolution whatsoever to be had here. MacKenzie and Johanen, and their new pal Brian Fitzpatrick, have a whole lot to do as this book ends-- and so does the rest of the world. In fact, things are just gearing up for an all-out orgy of apocalyptic, messianic wordsmithing when this book ends. And... it just ends.
I'm rating this one under the assumption that there will be a book four. If there's not, knock two stars off. ***
Why continue to be deceived..........2006-06-29
Tim LaHaye, Jerry Jenkins, and others in the Pre-Trib circle, such as Ed Hindson, Tommy Ice, Chuck Missler, Zola Levitt, Thomas McCall, John Hagee, Grant Jeffrey, Marlin Maddox, Perry Stone, Texe Marrs, John Walvoord (deceased), etc., continue to put forth the same deceptions that Hal Lindsey popularized decades ago. The notion of a pre-tribulation rapture is foreign to scripture, it is foreign to the teachings of the early Church, and it is grooming the Church for destruction through ignorance and lack of preparation for what is really coming. These men are novices and not prophecy "experts" or "scholars" by any stretch of the imagination; they are those who tickle the ears of gullible Christians. Why continue to be deceived? Tim Cohen, in his excellent book, "The AntiChrist and a Cup of Tea," provides biblically sound and testable evidence to show that the coming AntiChrist is known NOW. Not only that, the same author (Tim Cohen) has now put out the strongest presentation on the whole issue of the rapture EVER offered to the saints of God in Christ: "The REAL Rapture". If you really want to know the truth about the timing of the coming rapture, then you need to hear Tim Cohen's "The REAL Rapture" (based on a volume in his forthcoming "Messiah, History, and the Tribulation Period" series (see Prophecy House's site for details on these items, which are also available via Amazon).
Couldn't put it down, but...................2006-03-21
I bought all three books together and it was a "can't put them down" type weekend. Mr. Marzulli did an excellent job of providing me with a captivating story an well as a topic, from a non fiction view, that needs serious thought and prayer, and this makes it priceless. But, it is a fiction trilogy and I was disappointed beyond words in this last book, when most of the characters I had become emotionally involved with, just disappeared without a mention. Phase them out, kill them off, but give me some closure, don't leave me wondering. I enjoyed the new characters, but I did not get as emotionally involved. I did read it as fast as the others, but I think I was trying to hope each new chapter would bring my beloved characters from book 1 and 2 back. I hope he plans to write more and include the old characters. Even with this minor complaint, these are great reads.
The Revealing.......2006-02-23
This book is very exciting and captivating. A real page turner. I enjoyed it very much. The ending was not very satisfying for me. However the end is yet to be seen.

Wonderful.......2007-04-11
This is a great book for any age or stage in life. It is challenging and insightful.
It all starts with a change of heart, this book engages the heart!.......2007-03-31
No one can read this book, The Hidden Power of Kindness, without looking at himself and his behavior towards his brother. It illluminates the little, yet destructive things that we do to one another, but on the otherhand, it illluminates the little, yet life healing things we can do to one another! Love lives and acts through kindness.
A Good Blueprint for Life.......2007-02-21
"The Hidden Power of Kindness: A Practical Handbook for Souls Who Dare to Transform the World, One Deed at a Time" by Rev. Lawrence Lovasik is an abridged edition of "Kindness" which was originally published in 1962. Its message is as important today as it was then, perhaps even more so.
We live in a rude world. It often seems that people have forgotten how to be kind. "The Hidden Power of Kindness" seeks to remind us. Lovasik begins by offering six simple rules to living kindly, three "don'ts" and three "do's:"
"1) Don't speak unkindly of anyone.
2) Don't speak unkindly to anyone.
3) Don't act unkindly toward anyone.
1) Do speak kindly of someone at least once a day.
2) Do think kindly about someone at least once a day.
3) Do act kindly toward someone at least once a day."
When you do commit an unkind act, ask God for forgiveness, offer an apology to the person, if possible, and say a prayer for the person you offended.
The remainder of "The Hidden Power of Kindness" expands upon those simple rules, providing concrete examples of ways to practice kindness. Jesus told us to love our neighbor. Acting with kindness is a powerful step to living that mandate. Lovasik's book offers a wonderful blueprint for transforming your life and your relationships with other people.
Lovasik's "Power" - ful Kind of Book on Daily Christian Living.......2006-05-12
Read this book's appendix first. It's a series of questions which, answered one after another, takes your temperment temperature and provide Catholics a confession checklist. It also proves the book's back cover tagline, ""You're almost certainly not as kind as you ought to be..."
"The Hidden Power of Kindness" is written firmly from a Catholic mindset to a Catholic audience. Author Lawrence Lovasik, a Catholic priest, condemns birth control and points to criticism of clergy and religious as egregious sins against charity. His somewhat scolding tone (you'll faintly smell fire and brimstone) recalls "old-school" Catholicism, the book first published in 1962. But this book provides any faith-based person timely reasons and reminders to place more Christian kindness and charity into their daily lives.
Building his case from Scripture and quotes and anecdotes from Catholic Saints, Fr. Lovasik shows examples of kindness in word, deed, and thought. He urges readers to reconsider how they treat words spoken in confidence and jest (with especially harsh words on sarcasm), inner thoughts on forgiveness to people who've hurt them, how to act when two people disagree. He cites empathy and punctuality as examples of kind behavior, and silence as "the language of God," and key means to holiness. Throughout, Lovasik's narrative and chosen quotes stress charity and kindness aren't alone virtues without Christ-like purpose.
The book is inspiring, its wisdom timeless (especially its poetic words on how to treat those who are sick and dying) and its tips practical when embedding kinder behavior in everyday life. (It also gives the lie to a now common idea of rude, even cruel behavior being acceptable in the name of "honesty.") "The Hidden Power of Kindness" shows how kind words and actions, born from love and fear of God and desire for God's glory, provide unseen dividends in a society unused to them. Recommended as a practical,near-reference manual for daily human interaction.
An in-depth examination of conscience.......2005-07-15
I highly recommend this book if you desire to penetrate your heart in order to discover secret sins hidden there. I found that I could read several pages and think "OK, Ok Good! I am doing well in that area..." But then "Uh Oh, hmmm...that is me and it is not pretty"
I highlighted my problem areas so I could survey it before my next confession.
