Reader beware..........2007-09-23
"Little White Lies" isn't an entire waste of time, but it is very predictable and repetitive. Take the plot of "Working Girl" and throw in a little "While You Were Sleeping" and that'll give you about 80% of the plot. Small town girl moves to the city with big dreams only to be initially disappointed. So, due to a few twists, she finds herself impersonating a more accomplished character. Enter the Perfect Guy and his appealing family, who love the protagonist for just who she is. But will they still love her when her deception is uncovered? That is the dilemma. There are all the standard cliches, including the scene where the protagonist is ready to reveal her lie, only to be interupted by someone who spills the beans for her. The ending is pure cotton candy. In fact, reading "Little White Lies" reminded me of why I often avoid chick lit. There are some good writers in this genre (and Townley is a competant writer, just not original) but the plots are so obvious that reading to the end often feels like a waste of time. I'll give this one points for the following: I learned a few things I didn't know (such as that Stonehenge and Bristol are near Bath) and there are at least two twists I couldn't predict (although they're both minor to the plot.) So... reader beware.
Little White lies...........2007-09-02
Great book!! I couldn't put it down, i think I've read all of Gemma Townley's books now can't wait for the next one to come out!!
A sweet, funny little book.......2007-03-30
I really enjoyed this book, which actually kind of surprised me. I thought it was going to just be a bit of fluff -- some escapist chick lit that I could enjoy dipping into at the end of a long day while lolling in the bathtub.
But then I found myself interested in the main character, Natalie, and the tangled web she wove as she took on another identity. She was, of course, a terrible liar, and a number of very entertaining things happened with the story's being neatly resolved at the end.
This isn't deep or timeless literature. The character development is somewhat haphazard and the plot will gently test your credulity, but "Little White Lies" is a fun, interesting, entertaining book for the bath, beach, or comfy nook on the sofa.
Underdeveloped.......2007-02-25
The story of this book sounded really promising and funny: Young woman moves to big city, works in retail, gets a bunch of mail addressed to the prior tenant and lies herself into a whole different identity.
Unfortunately the way it was worked out was nothing else but disappointing. Without any warning, or any kind of explanation, the main character moved back to her hometown only to return to the big city and getting back with her ex-boyfriend within a few pages. It would have been nice to get some more insights and just some kind of how did she get there explanation. What ever happened to a gradual story development?
All in a sudden she has her own store and lives happily ever after with the guy who thought she was someone else. How exactly did that happen? I feel I could have written this book better than this author.
I like light and breezy novels, but that doesn't mean that they have to do completely dump and unrealistic.
See what might happen if you lie.............2006-07-19
I really like this book because it was fun to read and I wanted to know what was going to happen to Natalie from her lies. I'm sure everyone has received mail or a phone call from someone who use to live at their current place and who use to have their current phone number.
But we were always the good little girl and never opened the mail or always told the caller that you have the wrong number. With this book we get to see what could happen if you opened someone's mail and looked in on someone else's life.
This book also showed that you can stick to your dreams and achieve them. From other reviews the main character did flip flop with decision making but that was the fun of her character she could never really make up her mind.

Thoroughly exhausted.....emotional roller coaster of confusion........2007-07-31
I never write bad reviews and I'm not going to start now. The thought process behind this book was somewhat like others I've read but it did have it's differences. I started liking the heroine and wanting to understand her but I found about a half of the way through that I was asking too many times "what, why and how"? I kept having to go back and reread multiple pages. A lot of the character info is left out. Usually when this is used in a story, it leads the reader to sit on the edge of their seat turning pages quickly trying to gobble up more of the story. Unfortunately the information in this one is not on the next page, nor the next one after that......it seems like without explaining things about character A (either about who they are or what role they play in this fast paced book) your being thrust into meeting characters B, C, and D. There were a lot of things I liked about this book but over all I think too much story line in a short amount of time, too many characters, too many twists --- too many strings left untied. Too much of an emotional and confusing roller coaster. It was exhausting trying to understand and keep track of the who's who and what angle are they working-- to truly enjoy the book. On a positive note, I do like the main female character and the setting of the story. I didn't hate it but overall the title of my review sums up my opinion.
dear god, make it stop.......2007-06-22
I tried and wanted to like this story. I am only fifty pages into it and I can not make myself continue. The story is contrived. The punctuation horrible. The grammar and word usage is subpar. If I could have given this book a less than 1 star, I would have.
The heroine is anything but a leading character and the continuity of the storyline is lacking.
Pacing is horrible and frankly the dialogue is contrived. Samantha is a horrible Anita Blake rip off.
The book is going straight to the recycling bin. I'm glad I bought it used. Still a waste.
Disappointing.......2006-08-29
I wanted to like this book. I really did. Human private detective guards vampire family! What's not to like?
Well, for one thing, in this book, my first two sentences would have been one sentence, with no period, semicolon, or even a comma to separate them. That might not seem such a big deal, but it jerked me out of the story every time I had to reread a sentence to figure out what the author meant. Was this edited at all?
It didn't have very good world or character building either. Maybe the author was trying to introduce the background and characters slowly, with tantalising hints, but all I kept thinking was, "Where did _that_ come from?!?"
Nor did I like the whole "she's attracted to him, she's angry with him, he's trying to seduce her, he's angry with her" back-and-forth technique. It was too choppy and not believable. If the author was trying to create sexual tension that way, she failed miserably.
The transformation of a couple of the bad guys into apparent good guys just didn't work for me. And on a related topic, the sex scenes, and who she had sex with, made me think "Ick".
And I couldn't bear the, (in my opinion), totally gratuitous killing at the end.
There are other problems, but I won't prose on any longer. I was all set to buy the sequel when it came out, but now I'm not going to bother.
Main character is not very likable...........2006-08-12
I didn't care for the way the story was written (many sentence fragments with little punctuation - not easy to read) nor did I like the "heroine" who wound up having sex easily with everyone but the person she had a relationship with. The situations, sex, violence all seemed contrived and gratuitous to me.
Very Exciting.......2006-08-03
I think Gray does a remarkable job of blending the familiar and the not so familiar, creating a rich paranormal world with sexy and engaging characters
loved it

Quality overview of the best of the Garou.......1999-10-27
beginning with a comic form short story, The history of the tribe from prehistory to the current decade is then described in a series of letters between tribe scholars. I would have like more detail here, but what's here is good. I would also have like to see more detailed info on tribe protocols, but structure info, and global polical view are good. Apart from the two points mentioned, this is an essential book for any werewolf enthusiast. One of my three must have werewolf books!
This book is great!.......1999-01-14
This book is good, rich in the Silver Fangs history. It has all the information you'll ever need about Silver Fang Heirarchy, including camps, houses and lodges. It also lists Silver Fang fetishes, rites, gifts and merits & Flaws. This book is not a waste of money for those that want to play a Silver Fang correctly. If you can find it, buy it.
Book Description
For weeks, the Garou, bestial werewolves who fight to save the natural world, have been fighting a losing battle against the minions of the vile Wyrm-spawn Jo'cllath'mattric. Now, at last, it is time to take the fight to the beast. In Tribe Novel: Silver Fangs, the warrior King Albrecht travels to Europe to rally the Garou forces but finds a cold welcome from his brethren. In Tribe Novel: Glass Walkers, the young spirit-seer Julia Spencer tries to find the weakness in the enemy's defenses but may well be leading her packmates into an ambush.

Cool!!! ;).......2007-05-31
I'm a fan of Albrecht, so this book really stands out XD
It was also nice to see he has no diplomatics skills whatsoever, the true Ahroun XDDD
This book has some nice sidekicks and I really enjoyed Albrecht's jokes.
The story was really fluent, and as also happens in the second tribe novel of this book, it really gets more and more interesting with every turning page.
Also the Glass Walker part of it is great XD

Description:
A new highly selective silver(I) electrode was prepared with a PVC membrane using 5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)corrole as an electroactive material, 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (o-NPOE) as a plasticizer and sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB) as an additive in the percentage ratio of 3:3:62:32 (corrole:NaTPB:o-NPOE:PVC, w:w). The electrode exhibited linear response with a near Nernstian slope of 54.8mV/decade within the concentration range of 5.1x10^-^6 to 1.0x10^-^1M silver ions, with a working pH range from 4.0 to 8.0, and a fast response time of
<30s. Selectivity coefficients for Ag(I) relative to a number of interfering ions were investigated. The electrode is highly selective for Ag(I) ions over a large number of mono-, bi-, and tri-valent cations. Common interferents like Hg^2^+ and Cd^2^+ show very low interfering effect on the silver assay, which is valuable property of the proposed electrode. Several electroactive materials and solvent mediators have been compared and the experimental conditions were optimized. The sensor was applied to the determination of silver in real ore samples with satisfied results.

The best of the tribebooks.......2004-08-27
It is known that the tribebooks feature a story throughout the first coule of chapters. For most of these, the story often gets in the way of the information. However, in this tribebook the story reads like a novel, as King Albrecht is talked to by a group of Russian Fangs. In fact, this is the prequel to the last Werewolf novel, Last Battle. It also has all the neat new gifts and fetishes that Werewolf fans want in their tribebooks.
Highly recommended.

"AHistory" serves as the definitive (if unofficial) timeline to the whole of "Doctor Who," and incorporates nearly 500 full-length stories into a cohesive chronology. In short, this book indexes virtually every "Doctor Who" event worth nothing -- starting at the beginning of time and running through to the universes end. This guide is the vastly updated and revised successor to Parkins hugely acclaimed "A History of the Universe" (1996), and contains more than double the material of the original. All told, "AHistory" incorporates: More than four decades of the "Doctor Who" TV show, including the 2005 series starring Christopher Eccleston; all original "Doctor Who" novels up through "The Gallifrey Chronicles; all "Doctor Who" novellas from Telos and all "Doctor Who" audios from Big Finish up through "Terror Firma." This book is written by Lance Parkin, with additional reporting by Lars Pearson (the "I, Who" series).
Book Description
Did Jesus claim to be the Messiah?
Did he promise to return and usher in a new age?
How did Jesus envision the Kingdom of God?
The Five Gospels answers these questions in a bold, dynamic work that will startle traditional readers of the Bible and rekindle interest in it among secular skeptics. In 1985 the Jesus Seminar, comprising a distinguished group of biblical scholars, was founded by Robert W. Funk. They embarked on a new translation and assessment of the gospels, including the recently discovered Gospel of Thomas. In pursuit of the historical Jesus, they used their collective expertise to determine the authenticity of more than fifteen hundred sayings attributed to him. Their remarkable findings appear in this book.

know what you are reading..........2007-08-31
As is always the case when reading or studying any extreme point of view, you must read/study the other side of the argument. It is the logical way to understand your own viewpoint without being brainwashed by what you read. A critique of this book is given by Luke Timothy Johnson in his book The Real Jesus : The Misguided Quest for the Historical Jesus and the Truth of the Traditional Gospels. I suggest reading them together if you read this book at all.
A Remarkable Book.......2007-02-13
Perhaps it does not occur to the casual reader of the Bible that we have gospels according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John but nothing from Jesus himself. What kind of person would we find if we discovered an original work produced by this most influential man of all time? We may never know, but thanks to the efforts of groups of scholars like the Jesus Seminar and the International Q Project we are beginning to acquire an exciting new picture of a Jesus free from the matrix of theological dross, a Jesus that lived and taught in history.
From my study of this work, it appears that the historical Jesus had no preoccupation with the "sinfulness of man" but held a rather elevated view of humanity's potential. His compassion for others seems to flow from an insight not only into his own spiritual integrity, but the spiritual integrity of every individual. He was a healer, not because he was a divinely appointed worker of miracles, but because he understood how to open people's minds to their inner spiritual power, to get them consciously reconnected to their own divine nature and bring about their innate wholeness.
Some critics have charged that The Five Gospels diminish the relevance of Jesus. For me, this book makes Jesus a much more plausible and inspirational example of what lies in store for us all on the spiritual journey. This is a remarkable book and I commend those who dedicate their talents to stripping away the thick cloud of myth and superstition surrounding Jesus and reveal the real light of historical truth.

For any serious reader of the Gospels.......2007-01-09
This is a work of the highest scholarship. With great care it presents the Gospels as works of human beings, influenced by other human beings both before and after the original texts (if that has any meaning) were put together. Not for those who don't care what Jesus really said. But for those for whom this could make some difference, invaluable.
An interesting book........2006-08-08
This is an interesting book. I fully recommend it to anyone looking for answers about Christianity. You may not agree with everything -- and that's certainly OK. But take whatever you get from this book and do some additional research!

Red for Jesus' own words
Pink for a minor modification of Jesus' words
Gray for remnants of something Jesus said
Black for the words of the congregations who wrote their theology and issues close to heart and put it in Jesus' mouth
It is no more simpler than this.
Jesus Seminar, with seventy or so scholars, has become for me a new Septuaginta, the seventy Jews who translated the Tanakh (Hebrew scriptures) into Greek. Jesus Seminar has sat and said probably what the modern woman and man say everyday, when coming in contact with religious people. People who believe that there is a world of miracle, of supranatural forces, of gods and angels interrupting the casual life and coming with good news now and then or bad.
Well, the Jesus Seminar is not composed of these people, but of scholars and scholars have to base their understanding of Jesus and his context on what is possible to understand from his surroundings without the layer of interpretation made by his followers. They believe that Jesus was a wandering sage, thru the Gallilean countryside, living for the day and trying to inspire every one, old and young, woman and man, scholar or amateur, about the littleness and easiness of good conscience, balanced life and world view, far from complicated theological rituals and beliefs.
The Jesus that talks to me thru the red- and pink-coloured verses of the five gospels is hopeful, close or down to earth, nature loving and provocative. He is so Ghandi or why not mother Teresa.
Scholars cannot take into account belief confessions to be history, something that the gospels are. Very well done in taking the gospel of Tomas into the picture. The scholars are aware of the fact that Jesus became the centre focus of two movements, the Gnostic and the Christian. Thomas being a bit Gnostic has used other sources that the Gospel of sayings Q (the parts where Luke and Matthew corresponds verbatim to each other) and Marc (around 70 percent of Matthew and Luke). Yes, Tomas is even a bit older that Marc! However Tomas gets his share of black and gray votes too.
So, to make it clear, the Jesus of Jesus Seminar is neither Christian, Jew nor Gnostic, he is what he is.
Poor John - his gospel is so black-dotted - something I think the eyes of amateur would also conclude. John is filled with theological formulas, is very triniatarian and a bit abstract.
It is clear from the research done by Jesus Seminar that Jesus used provocative not-so-casual paroxyms, aphorisms and parables. The gospels have freely used the sayings in different contexts for different reasons, which shows that there never has been a concrete story frame about Jesus, but independent somethimes loosely or lousely gathered sayings, short ones which are easier to remember, coupltes or triplets etc.
The Jesus Seminar has shown its arguments, its voting systems, they present both minority and majority view about the verses which make the WHOLE book transparent. Transparency is the essnece of scholarship, not hidden mysterious gatherings of believers who induce each other in utterings of absolute words and wisdoms. Those who want to criticise this work should do it in the same academic SOUND way that the Jesus Seminar has done.
My belief as a Liberal Christian is that we need the truth about Jesus. Just as Ghandi is not an incarnation or avatar of Shiva, nor is Jesus any son of God or semi-God. Jesus is the last myth of the our Western world. I believe in scholarship, in twenty years, the same Jesus Seminar will perhaps change the red and all other colours because of some new ancient scripture coming into light. They will be happy to find more about Jesus, not scared, not depressed, not afraid. Religion and orthodoxy has done it best in hiding, killing, torturing, judging and misunderstanding.
Thank you Jesus seminar for your open mindedness, for bringing to me the real Jesus for now - looking forward to the Jesus of 2020 or so.
