Book Description
Ex-Girlfriend Emma Carter has a lot on her mind. Her boyfriend got a life -- in L.A. Her hairdresser found God. And that extra ten pounds of "relationship flab" she acquired while falling in love with a commitmentphobe has just put her out of the running for new romance -- or so she thinks. But before Emma can get on with her life, she's got to face a few startling truths about being single in New York City . . .
Confession #5: Marriage suddenly seems like a social disease.
Even the latest bride in my family -- my mother -- has put me to work in the service of her wedding day. What about us non-bride-to-be's? I wonder now. Working in the warped little world of wedding planning has only led me to one conclusion: If you don't get married in this world, you get nothing. Once, in an editorial meeting, I jokingly suggested that a woman should get a bridal shower when she turns thirty, wedding or not. Everyone looked at me as if I were some kind of nut. I am 31 years old; am I not entitled to free Calphalon yet?
Whoever thought that baring your soul could be this good?

Great Read!!.......2007-05-30
I have read this book a million times and it never gets old. I have also lent my book out to friends who have also said it was an amazing book. It's a fun, light read.
Perfect Beach Read.......2006-07-24
Emma Carter is a New York City girl who is trying to figure out how she is going to stay hip and keep herself from going insane. She speaks right to the reader and connects with the lost little girl in all of us.
Really Enjoyable!.......2005-08-25
Emma Carter is a refreshing character- not overly neurotic just in need of refocusing and restarting her life now that she is an ex-girlfriend and no longer part of a couple.
Book opens with Emma newly single as her now ex- Derrick has moved to LA to launch his screen writing career. Emma is left behind - she has a job as an editor for a bridal magazine , great friends and a rent stabilized apartment. Dealing with how to get over that person you thought was your one true love takes its toll- I like that Emma is not a whiner. She faces her daily challenges and pulls herself up. By the end of the book she has re-adjusted her career track, begun taking better care of herself as a person and has things well in hand.
Not a sappy romance- this is a subtle journey that kept me reading and thinking long after it was over. I could really relate to her insecurities and issues- her family is interesting- and liked the way she had to force herself to get out there yet did so.
Premarital sex is pretty mild- nothing overly explicit. Humor is sarcastic and on the dry side which I prefer over slapstick. Characters are multi-dimensional. Her mom is a driving force in her life and really cares for her daughter without interfering overly much. Is nice to see one of these chic-lit books where the characters are not caricatures. I think that folks who normally shy away from chick- lit will be as pleasantly surprised as I was by Confessions of and Ex-Girlfriend. I look forward to reading more by Lynda Curnyn.
Great Summer Read.......2005-07-13
While I'm not a diehard fan of chick lit, I do enjoy it when it's well done. Lynda Curnyn's "Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend" is definitely well done. It's fun, sweet and uplifting at times, and even when Emma, the main character, is feeling frustrated with her life, we feel that, too. Who hasn't been dumped by someone they thought they loved? Who hasn't wished for a better life? Who doesn't have family members they wish they could hide away somewhere? Emma goes through all of this and much more. My only complaints were: the sick dog issue seemed a bit overdone by Alyssa (and I *love* my dog... the whole thing just didn't feel real), and the love scene. I wish she had left the details out completely. Who wants to read about bad, regrettable sex? Anyway, my two small complaints don't take away from the fact that this is one, overall, very enjoyable summer read, despite my own small criticisms.
Such An Easy Read.......2005-06-20
"Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend," by Lynda Curnyn relates the tale of Emma Carter, a frustrated writer working for a bridal magazine called Bridal Best. Her boyfriend of 2 years, Derrick, has dumped her to move to California after he sells a screenplay. Emma spirals into post-relationship Hell. The reader follows Emma's many ups and downs as she struggles into her new role as an ex-girlfriend.
This novel was such an easy read. I picked it up on a whim and I was not disappointed. Curnyn crafts characters that are very easy to relate to and an excellent portrait of a young woman questioning her value, not only in terms of a meaningful relationship, but also as a whole person.

4.5 Stars*****.......2006-06-14
This was a delightful set of stories that were linked together by Lady Whistledown's gossip papers as well as a skating party everyone ends up attending.
Julia Quinn's novella Thirty-Six Valentines was excellent! I loved the dialog between Clive and David. I felt so sorry for Susannah which inturn made her realization that David loved her and wanted to marry her so rewarding. 5 stars.
Mia Ryan's A Dozen Kisses was so romantic. The author made it easy to identify with Lord Darington's handicapp as well as Caroline's sad relationship with her mother. The letter written to Caroline from Dare explanning how he felt was so heartfelt and loving. 5 stars.
I love stories where two people who have been good friends fall in love. Karen Hawkins' Two Hearts was a beautiful example of the discovery of romance where there was once just friendship. 5 stars.
I have to say Suzanne Enoch's One True Love was my least favorite. I did enjoy the character of Anne but I felt that the love that developed in Maximilian for Anne happened too quickly making it feel rushed. 3 stars.
I definitely recommend this book!!
Loved it !.......2006-06-06
I really enjoyed all four of these stories, even though they lacked historical fact: it would have been highly unlikely that any of these women would have engaged in any type of intimacy before they were married.
I agreed with other reviews below - the way the four stories were intertwined through the characters attending the same events - the theatre, the skating party, the Valentines Day ball etc; it was so well done.
The Best Whistledown Yet!.......2006-03-26
This was the best of the Whistledown series. I truly enjoyed all the short stories. Winter was never so sizzling hot! I fell in love with all the characters. Now, I'm off to find books by the authors of this book that I wasn't familiar with. I read this book because I've read all the Julia Quinn books, so now I can start on books by Suzanne Enoch, Karen Hawkins, and Mia Ryan. Oh my! There is so much good reading left out there!
Delightful and charming; Nothing soul stirring though.......2005-03-24
So many anthologies contain abysmal stories that I began this one with great trepidation - but found myself in the middle of some enjoyable and charming romances! I loved the tie-in of each story to a skating party and a Valentine ball. I loved the "observations" of Lady Whistledown. I greatly admired her in all the Quinn Bridgerton novels. Each story was so unique and some had unique heroes and heroines. I will not recite what each story was about - other reviewers have done that quite adequately.
My favorite and the one I felt was different from the usual genre was Mia Ryan's "A Dozen Kisses." What a sweet, touching romance between a wounded (in the head - not physically showing) Lord and a rather sad, wounded (by circumstances) young woman. Linney and Terrance were enchanting to get to know in this rather short entry! I truly wished it was longer, just because I wanted more!
All the other stories stood out in various ways. I forgot that I was not reading a Regency anthology as each heroine found themselves in ummm ... various compromising positions with their loves ... so keep in mind this is not a "G" rated anthology. None of the stories stirred my soul, but it is hard to do that in the limited pages given each storyline. Highly recommend this, especially for those who just can't get enough of Lady Whistledown.
Love Lady W!.......2004-08-28
I love Julia Quinn's Bridgerton Series, so I HAD to read this. I can tell you that I read the first two stories in one day, they were that interesting and made me interested in reading more books by Suzanne Enoch and Karen Hawkins. Julia's story was just as expected, a true page turner. But, the reason I didn't give it 5 stars is Mia Ryan.
I wanted to like her story because I thought it was great that all the four stories were intertwined between the four events of the Worth ball, the Keane play, the Skating party and the Valentine's ball. But, I could not get into Ryan's story. I did skim through it because I wanted to see the interactions, but it didn't grab me.
What did grab me was Suzanne's Anne Bishop finding out that the man she was promised to from birth was the man for her. Julia's Susannah finding her true love in the arms of her old love's brother! Karen's Liza and Royce finding out that you can be friends and you can be lovers. What was even better was reading the same scenes from different points of views. Seeing Anne Bishop flee and knock both Royce and Susannah to the ground and then seeing that scene from Royce and Susannah's POV.
Would I recommend this book? Yes and it is a MUST for all Julia Quinn fans. I keep wishing that maybe Lady Whistleton could make an appearance in the next Bridgerton Books, maybe Julia could get her to come out of retirement. Let's all hope because Lady Whistleton tells it as it is!

Book Description
They are the galaxy's most elite fighting force. And as the battle against the Empire rages, the X-wing fighters risk life and machine to protect the Rebel Alliance. Now they must go on a daring undercover mission--as the crew of an Imperial warship.
It is Wedge Antilles' boldest creation: a covert-action unit of X-wing fighters, its pilots drawn from the dregs of other units, castoffs and rejects given one last chance. But before the new pilots can complete their training, the squadron's base is attacked by former Imperial admiral Trigit, and Wraith Squadron is forced to swing into action--taking over an Imperial warship and impersonating its crew. The mission: to gain vital intelligence about Trigit's secret weapons, to sabotage the admiral's plans, and to lure him into an Alliance trap. But the high-stakes gamble pits Wraith Squadron's ragtag renegades against the Empire's most brilliant master of guile and deception.
Are they up to the challenge?
If not, the penalty is instant death.

The Wraith Squadron Trilogy, Part 1.......2007-05-26
I understand that this series was capitalizing on the popularity of a computer game, but it would have been better if it didn't have the title of "X-Wing." That minor beef aside, the first 4 books of this series form a tetralogy by Michael A. Stackpole featuring the exploits of Rogue Squadron.
This book is the first part of a new trilogy by Aaron Allston about the title commando-pilot unit, which is capable of counter-intelligence and sabotage missions in addition to starfighter combat. For a post-Return of the Jedi novel that is not about Luke, Han and Leia, this book is not bad. A covert operations pilot squadron like the Wraiths is a cool concept.
As for the best novels from the era of the movie saga, I highly recommend the following 5-star novels:
Cloak of Deception (Star Wars)
Shadow Hunter (Star Wars: Darth Maul)
Labyrinth of Evil (Star Wars, Episode III Prequel Novel)
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (Star Wars)
Shadows of the Empire (Star Wars)
I'm a Believer!.......2007-05-12
When I first cracked open Rogue Squadron by Mike Stackpole, I thought I had found the single squadron I would ever want to read. The Rogues were funny, amazing, and all had vivid pasts to constantly capture my imagination.
When I first cracked open Wraith Squadron, however, I was blown away. The Wraiths were more than funny, they were hilarious; they were more than amazing, they were ingenious; and only were their pasts vivid, they were so out there that I fell in love with the Wraiths. A perfect story for all X-wing lovers!
More X-Wing goodness.......2007-01-26
Aaron Allston does a terrific job of carrying on the series with these three Wraith Squadron books. If you liked the first books, you won't be missing anything in this one.
The premise is that Wedge Antilles, after experiencing the success of the commando like operations of a pro fighter squadron, decides to take the idea further, by making a squadron designed to specialize in commando missions, but also be thoroughly trained in flying. The source of pilots? Washouts and rejects, who can only manage one last chance to get into a squadron.
The main difference between these and other X-Wing books is the characters. Rogue Squadron isn't here, except for Wedge, and you get to meet a bunch of new people, who are even more off-beat than the Rogues. Aaron Allston brings excellent humor, that you can't help but love the books for.
The central plot, revolving around a campaign against Warlord Zsinj, is really great, and Zsinj is well developed.
Don't be afraid of the new squadron and new author. Everything awesome from the first books are there, and you won't be disappointed.
Amazing; Allston, just as good as Stackpole.......2007-01-17
Aaron Allston shows his writing magnificantly in the first of a trilogy inside a series.
Wraith Squadron is post of the Bacta War, and starts off with Wedge Antilles, commander of Rogue Squadron, an elite X-Wing squadron responsible for the Death Star destruction, leaving Rogue Squadron for a period of time.
His decision to leave Rogue Squadron temporarily was due to the fact that he wanted to form another squadron. This time, rather then "clean" people, he wanted recruits with records. He had also made a little deal with Admiral Ackbar, commander of Home One, that if Wedge's little scheme of screw-up recruits don't work out, he must accept his promotion to General.
Wraith Squadron basically starts near the beginning of the Zsinj War and it just leads on from there.
Wraith Squadron is the amazing start to an already begun beginning.
Believe me when I say this: Aaron Allston's books in the X-Wing series is an awesome addition. When I read it, I could see nearly everything going on from the pedalling of the rudders to the beautiful terrain of planets that are brought into play.
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Misfits in X-Wings.......2005-12-30
Book 5 of the X-wing series. Following the exploits of Rogue Squadron in which Isard was taken down, Antilles decides to put together a unique group of fighters consisting of misfits, failures, and pilots of the edge. There is still pleny of action like other x-wing books, but there is a fair amount of humor and horseplay among the pilots that make it a real fun read.
Highly suggested, as it may just be one of the very best Star Wars books available.

A new beginning for the X-Wing series.......2005-09-26
Wraith Squadron - X-Wing Book Five (1998.) Book five in a nine-part series.
INTRODUCTION:
The Star Wars film series is, without question, the greatest science fiction series of all time. George Lucas captured the minds of people young and old across the world. But as anyone knows, there were only three films (this was before the prequels), and for many people, this just wasn't enough. And thus, the Star Wars Expanded Universe was born. The Expanded Universe consisted of comic books, video games, novels, and other media. Many of the stories focused on the characters in the films, many focused on unknown characters from the same universe. Among the authors who tried their hands at creating Star Wars novels was Aaron Allston. In the mid-late nineties, Michael A. Stackpole created the four-book X-Wing series. The X-Wing series was announced to continue beyond Stackpole's initial four books, but with a different author. How does Allston's take on this series compare to Stackpole's? Read on for my review of Wraith Squadron.
STORYLINE:
This book picks up where the last one left off. Wedge Antilles has an idea for a new kind of squadron, which high ranking Rebel Alliance/New Republic military officials reluctantly agree to let him form. The newly-formed Wraith Squadron's specialty is not in piloting skills, but rather on-the-ground commando tactics. Although these pilots were misfits and outcasts initially, Antilles has brought them together, seeing major potential in their abilities. And a great opportunity arises for the newly-formed Wraiths - the opportunity to steal one of the Empire's Blockade Runners.
OPINIONS:
Overall, I was very satisfied with this story. I doubted this series would do well without Stackpole at the helm, but I was dead wrong. Although I DO think Stackpole is the better X-Wing author, Allston does a damn good job. Rather than sticking with the Rogues Stackpole made us all familiar with, Allston focuses almost exclusively on the Wraiths - characters new to this novel. I really missed characters like Ooryl, Nawara Ven, and Corran Horn, but I don't blame Allston for focusing more on new characters. I have only two major complaints with this novel. First and foremost, Allston introduces too many characters in too little time. But it's not like he's the only author that has ever done that. The other complaint is that Allston likes to drag the chapter lengths out. We're not talking the unbearable Alan Dean Foster lengths here, but still, I prefer Stackpole's "short and to the point" chapter style. Despite minor flaws, this is an excellent book. Allston is a great author, and I hope he decides to write additional Star Wars novels.
EDITION NOTES:
This novel is still in print and readily available at most bookstores. Can't say much else here.
OVERALL:
In the end, I must say that I am very satisfied with this story, and I am not at all reluctant to say that it would make for a fantastic movie - if George Lucas decides to make future Star Wars movies, this is a novel I would strongly recommend converting to the big screen. If you're a Star Wars fan who wants to go beyond the films, Stackpole and Allston's X-Wing series should appeal to you - that is, unless, you just want to follow the exploits of the main classic trilogy characters. Just make sure to start with Book One and read the series in order, or you may be left dazed and confused.
Must have book!!!.......1998-08-30
This book was great!!! Even if you didn't read the 4 X-wing books before this one, don't bother. This book at great dept, and, unlike most other SW books, this is great at interducing the new charitors and there persionialties. Also a very funny book. A recomandation to anyone.
X-Wing-Series at its peak.......1998-04-28
Once in a while you will be pleasantly surprised by a series which comes up with a volume definitely better than its forerunners and good enough to stand out a a book of its own. Wraith Squadron is such a rare surprise. It ist fast, funny and taking you to all the interesting people and places. It reminds me very much of all the qualities of the original movies and stories. This is a must-read for all star wars fans and will be still very entertainig for "normal" science fiction readers.
Awesome! The best X-Wing book yet!.......1998-04-02
Though Stackpole's Rogue Squadron books were very entertaining,I found this even more so.In it Wedge creates a new squadron. Though the back of the book makes the Wraiths seem like a bunch of raw recruits, they're really just fantastic, smart pilots that haven't been given a chance because of matters beyond there control. Most of the book is told from the point of veiw of Kell, a human male from Sluis Van who has had prior expierience with an elite Republic commando unit. Wraith Squadron it self is basicly a unit of commandos that are also good pilots. It follows the tradition set by Stackpole with exciting deep space dogfighting and fantastic gun battles. On one occasion, Kell even outsmarts a Star Destroyer and saves a wing of New Republic starfighters. This book is a must for any Star Wars fanatic like myself!
Wraith Squadron-One of Star Wars Rising Stars.......1998-04-01
It was a good book, it was well paced, the suspense kept me going. The only real thing I hate about the book was that it was one of those books that I read in one sitting (say 8 hours with interuptions). I hope Aaron Alliston's nex X-Wing book is about Wraith Squadron. Oh yeah in the Acknoweldgements Alliston thanked Michael Stackpole for hjis fiction which was in inspiration. Trust me it is true, in Mike Stackpole's Lethal Heritage, there was a couple who's names (Phelan Kell and Tyra Miraborg) are similar to the names of 2 Wraith Pilots

A wise man taught in Brooklyn for 44 years, influencing the lives of thousands and receiving accolades from heads of state. Little known outside of Jewish circles, the Rebbe, as Menachem Mendel Schneerson is lovingly known, was a fount of spiritual strength and good sense. Toward a Meaningful Life is an adaptation of his teachings that convey his strong message of love, productivity, education, and virtue, all with the grace of a good and loving God. This is the type of spiritual wisdom that can be turned to again and again.
Book Description
With a new foreword and chapter that address the upheaval that followed the events of September 11,
Toward a Meaningful Life is a spiritual road map for living based on the teachings of one of the foremost religious leaders of our time: Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. Head of the Lubavitcher movement for forty-four years and recognized throughout the world simply as "the Rebbe," Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who passed away in June 1994, was a sage and visionary of the highest order.
Toward a Meaningful Life gives Jews and non-Jews alike fresh perspectives on every aspect of their lives -- from birth to death, youth to old age; marriage, love, intimacy, and family; the persistent issues of career, health, pain, and suffering; and education, faith, science, and government. We learn to bridge the divisions between accelerated technology and decelerated morality, between unprecedented worldwide unity and unparalleled personal disunity.
At the threshold of a new world where matter and spirit converge, the Rebbe proposes spiritual principles that unite people as opposed to the materialism that divides them. In doing so, he continues to lead us toward personal and universal redemption, a meaningful life, and God.

Relevant for daily living, self-help amd improvement.......2007-02-05
This book was recommended to me during a time in my life where I was suffering from serious clinical depression - although I didn't know it at the time. One of my significant steps towards self-healing was through the reading and re-reading of chapters in this book coupled with application. I continually use different chapters as a source and for reminders. I have recommended this book to many and given it to others - and, uniformly, each has appreciated the contents.
The messages are sound, thought-provoking, and for me, provided guidance and answers. The book is very rich - probably more relevant to an older, more mature/experienced-in-life reader, but many parts can be exerpted for dealing with children, husbands, wives, parents and, of course, life.
A book written by a sycophant for other sycophants ........2004-06-07
Suggest for all genuinely interested in this topic , to refer to Rabbi David Berger's book , The Rebbe , the Messiah & the Scandal of Orthodox indifference .
generally well done.......2003-11-03
I agree with most of the positive comments made by other reviewers. One minor caveat: some of the essays are much more dated than others (which is probably why a new edition came out). For example, one essay on youth rebellion was probably written (or spoken) in the 1960s, and some of the essays are a bit too gee-whiz optimistic to be totally persuasive in 2003 (after the Sept. 11 disaster and the worldwide explosion of anti-Semitism that followed it).
Wisdom That Fills Your Soul.......2003-07-06
A book that adds meaning throughout each chapter. Some of the words do repeat themselves from time to time. However, the wisdom of the Rebbe always seems to have a positive reflection with hope for a better world. Even when dealing with death, The Rebbe reflects how the departed person's soul has risen to a higher plain. Other inspring moments include the birth of a child, the importance of keeping healthy, and the many joys of marriage.
This book may not be easy to absorb if you are first learning how to be spiritual. But give it some time and you will certainly feel fine.
good for all.......2001-09-05
This book gives a hasidic, yet not sectarian view on many aspects of life. Whereas most hasidic books stand still at questions on faith, this book explores the mind in a more philosophical way. The last few chapters can be missed; as the writer is repeating himself to much. Hence the 4 stars in stead of 5.
