Book Description
Last season, CIA agent Jack Bauer, played by Golden Globe award-winning actor Keifer Sutherland, had us glued to our TVs and cursing the time clock as he uncovered a plot to assassinate presidential nominee, David Palmer. With just 24 hours to identify the killer, Bauer also had to deal with the kidnapping of his wife and daughter and the existence of a mole at the agency.
This season he's at it again, helping President David Palmer save Los Angeles from nuclear ravage.
Lest you think Jack had some down time between life-altering experiences, check out 24: The House Special Subcommittees Findings at CTU. It's a new book providing a riveting account of Jack's grueling appearance before our government's most inquiring minds during their probe into alleged wrongdoings at CTU that first fateful 24 hour period. The testimony from these closed hearings was leaked to investigative journalist Marc Cerasini, who then ran with it to publisher HarperCollins.
With some of the finest reporting seen since Woodward's coverage of the Pentagon Papers, this book contains:
- Jack Bauer's complete Grand Jury Testimony
- Press statements from President-elect David Palmer
- Transcribed debriefings with other key CTU agents
- Previously sealed files on Bauer's related undercover act6ivities
- The arrest, detainment and transport records for Victor Drazen
- Teri Bauer's medical records
- Autopsy reports
- Campaign finance records
- Commentary from the Beltway's most celebrated political pundits
- Theories as to how and why key players within CTU turned.
Customer Reviews:
BEST SHOW EVER.......2006-07-28
In my opinion, 24 is the best show on TV right now. It is suspenseful and keeps your interest all through the show. There are also surprise twists throughtout the show. When I watched the first episode, I didn't think that I would watch anymore of it, but I soon realized that after you watch one episode, YOU ARE HOOKED!! If you watch this show...believe me....you won't regret it!!
Good for anyone who digs 24.......2005-09-03
This book is essentially just a recap of everything that happened Season 1. The author just made up the words as a transcript for a Congressional Hearing about the events that occured that day. It's a fun read for anyone who likes 24, and the author has the voice of the characters down, it just seems kind of cheap. There is some good information about what happened in the series between Seasons 1 and 2, and it also provides some more detailed character analysis.
I know this author is writing a few more 24 books, so I'd be advised to to review them first before I bought them. If they are the same thing for Seasons 2-4 I'd probably pass on them.
Overall though, it is a fun read, and the style (it poses as an investigative reporter who is telling the "true" story of that day's events) is cool, it's just not the most thrilling book in the world.
May not stand alone, but it's a great product attachment!.......2004-02-13
Though not providing a ton of new information about what exactly happens to Jack Bauer after the end of "24" season 1, "The House Special Subcommittee's Findings at CTU" is a fun read and has lots of great background information on just about every major character. Lots of new revelations into the David Palmer presidential bid, and the Jack - David link of operation Nightfall.
While the book does a superb job of patching up seeming plot holes, it also opens a lot of doors that it doesn't get around to closing. For instance, the DOD's prison system is never fully explained (while we get some more topical information on the system, we aren't afforded any sort of closure pertaining to what's going to happen to it)
All-in-all, it's a great read - even if some parts may seem repetitious after watching the series... but it's a great compendium, and offers a lot of deepening background into the amazingly woven world of "24." Buy and watch season 1, then read this book, then move on to the next season. You won't be disappointed!
The story behind the story.......2003-09-04
The first season of "24" was a ground-breaking achievement. Not only did define a whole new storytelling theme (the real time plot developments of the day each hour in each episode), but it also provided some of the most compelling action and drama to make network television. The story of Counter-Terrorist Unit (CTU) agent Jack Bauer and his day-long quest to prevent the assassination of presidential candidate David Palmer (and protect the lives of his wife and daughter) are well known. The effects and consequences of the events that came from this day are also relatively well known to fans of the series. One can't help but think that there was more to the story of the first season than just what was shown on screen. Thanks to Marc Cerasini, "24: Findings at CTU" provides the `rest of the story'.
While it has become commonplace to provide sourcebooks for various popular TV shows, Cerasini departs from the regular canned diet of character bios and episode guides and provides and unique look at the events of "24". "Findings at CTU" provides the `declassified' documents of the Congressional investigation into the events the day of the California presidential primary. Personal backgrounds of the main characters come to the forefront, but so do the personal histories of the smallest bit players. We find out more about Ira Gaines and Jamey Farrell. We find out how Palmer's own staffer became intimately involved with one of his assassins. Greater background is given to the mission that Jack went on and Palmer authorized to kill Victor Drazen, which led to Drazen seeking revenge against the two.
The wealth of information available in "Findings at CTU" is considerable. Admittedly, if one breaks it down to its basest elements, this is still an episode guide with character biographies. Yet, the format and depth of the information provided takes it well beyond the conventional sourcebook.
Plot holes? This book explain plot holes........2003-08-28
I had a lot of questions when I saw the season finale of 24 (first season). I thought that a lot of things didn't make sense, but this book helps you understand. The book is written as if it were real. Jack Bauer is being interrogated by the Congress and they ask details of the events of season one. Each chapter starts with something similar to the show: "The following testimony by federal agent Jack Bauer covers the events that ocurred between 12:00am and 1:00am on the day of the California presidential primary". EAch chapter covers the same events of season one, told by Jack Bauer himself.
The book has articles from (fake) newspapers that covered the events of season one. You find out more about Sherry and David Palmer divorce, you find out more about details of "Operation Nightfall", you find out more about Nina Myer's actions, etc. Buy this book only if you are a big, big fan of the show.

A fun but light read.......2006-08-08
Sapphire is a woman on the rise. She's smart, sexy and loves her career. She doesn't stand a chance when she unwittingly makes it to the top of this passionate and powerful shiekhs list of things to do.
There are two reasons I didn't give this story more stars. The first is because the length of the novel didn't allow for more full character developments. The second is because I felt cheated that none of the 'bad guys' were really bad guys.
Overall, I enjoyed the lighthearted flight into a fanciful and romantic world. This is a light read but still captivating through most of it.
Nice plot, sexy, romantic, What else can I say?.......2006-07-06
Stolen by the Sheikh is a great read! Sapphire is fashion designer living in Milan, forced to travel with a handsome sheikh to his country in order to design his bride's wedding dress. Unbeknownst to her she is his chosen bride.
Sheikh Khaled chose Sapphy because she is dating his sworn enemy. The one who 12 years ago stole his bride from him. Now Khaled will finally have his revenge. However, Khaled did not count with falling in love with Sappy, and it will be hard for him to make her stay after she find out the thruth.
Read the romance, the strong chemistry between these two will make you feel hot!
I LOVED IT.......2006-05-19
I thought the concept of the storyline was sweet and just ahhhhhhhh. I loved it and thought it was good thE fact that she didn't know she was to be married to the shiekh and was brought there under false pretense was a little different for me to read....YOU'LL LOVE IT TOO if your a biG fan of sheikh stories
ABOUT BOOK:
Sheikh Khaled Al-Ateeq has asked Sapphire Clemenger to design the wedding gown of his intended bride. But there's more to Khaled's deal than meets the eye: Sapphy must accompany him to his desert palace, and she's forbidden to meet the bride-to-be. How strange when she's told the bridal gown's measurements are her own....
Sapphy realizes that she's been stolen by the sheikh -- because she's his chosen wife!
Pride and anger are such worthless emotions when so much is at stake".......2006-03-26
Pride and anger are such worthless emotions when so much is at stake". Quote from author Trish Morey.
I loved the book....excellent storyline. Who I really liked was Sappy (Sapphire), not just her spunk and energy but her character. Usually the women in "sheikh" books are from the UK or US Sappy is Australian born and raised which made this story very interesting plus her profession, a fashion designer working in Milan.
Sheikh Khaled, just a wonderful alpha, yet tender even though revenge was his first priority. He really met his match in Sappy. The attraction and sexual pull between these two characters was amazing and made for a great romance.
Thanks for the great read, Trish Morey. I can't wait to read Paolo's story, The Mancini Marriage Bargain.
Back Cover Summary:

How strange when she's told the bridal gown's measurements are her own....

It was OK.......2006-03-22
This was a good story, typical sheikh business, but the heroine bordered on TSTL after making a dress for a mystery woman she never met, but she didn't happen to notice they had all the same measurements...I'm looking forward to the second story in this series, from the cad who did this heroine dirty by already being married...should prove a more interesting plt than this over-used faux kidnapping.

A big purple monster type guy protects a girl that is trying to help others. A nasty bad guy and his hordes of creepy little black chomping demon type things try and get to her.
That is, if most of this isn't just some demented dream or other. Entertaining, but maybe a little wayward.
"Ya got any toast?".......2006-06-10
The Maxx is a masterpiece. It's that simple.
Personally, I found The Maxx through watching the MTV Liquid Television show. I was very young, and very confused. Once I got older, though, I found a renewed interest in The Maxx and Sam K.'s work.
If you liked the show, and you know how to read, this is a no-brainer. Even if you've never seen the show, the various art styles, deep story and astounding, true-to-life dialog (Thanks to Messner-Loebs) will suck you in. This series honestly changed the way I look at life. You can see the specifics on the story in other reviews. I just wanted to share what The Maxx means to me. Which is a lot. Thank you, Sam Kieth.
Best comic reading experience .......2006-03-03
The first three volumes of the Maxx are by far the best experience in reading comics I have ever had. Seeing how the story unfolds and the mystery of all this crazy stuff unravels is awesome. Sam Kieth does an excelent job of dropping hints and little visual clues along the way without giving plot points away to soon. this was an excelent comic and sam keith's visual style is so neat.
Tana.......2005-12-31
I do not read comic books. I got the first volume of The Maxx because I enjoyed the cartoon so much - and volume 1 is almost exactly like the cartoon. The same is with the first half of volume 2 - then it starts to expand in strange and interesting rhelms!
Now - I can't help it, I'm ordering volume #3, I'm hooked.
Get at least first 12 issues.......2005-02-21
Ok, this book is the beginning of the Maxx series. The story of Maxx that goes on til first breakup of Dave and Julie is the best considering whole series (first 10-11 ish).
If you are a fan, get first twenty issues. Issues 12-20 are also about Dave and Julie. After that, story is about Mister Gone's daughter, her Maxx and it strays even more around ish 30 into some one shots and Friend of Maxx like stories. Maxx is 35 issues long, but first 10 issues are must get. They are best art/story combo EVER, and only story arc comparable to best stories of Sandman.

Fun !!!.......2007-05-05
Sam Kieth's work has always been based on psychological and anthropological themes. His stories of Maxx were great up until second cycle (Sara's story), which demanded that fans who read it (second cycle) have Bachelors in Psychology.
This last book is 'Friends of Maxx' collection and it is far more for masses than mentioned Maxx stories (II cycle). You can read it as stand alone trade paperback, without knowing who Maxx , Julie, Sara and Gone are.

Maxx Comedy.......2005-05-01
A very disappointing book. I was looking forward to lots of laughs but all I got was lots of groans!!! Plot is very lame and the events are simply weird. Don't buy before reading!
Re: Maxx Comedy.......2004-05-17
GREAT BOOK! Its about a kid (Max Carmody)who wants to be a stand up comic and when he sees a poster for a contest for The Funniest Kid in America he has to sign up and for him it all goes down hill from there.
For me it all goes up hill from there. The problems this kid faces is hilarious and with hilarious results. Good read for the plane! Another Gordon Korman book which was great! I loved No More Dead Dogs. Great book and I love his name he changes it to, Maxx Comedy!
This should spawn a sequel or maybe two, but man is this a good book.

It summarizes the results of an interdisciplinary analysis of the location and characteristics of hotspots for six natural hazards ¡V earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, floods, drought, and cyclones. Data on these hazards are combined with state-of-the-art data on the subnational distribution of population and economic output and past disaster losses to identify areas at relatively high risk from one or more hazards.

Bored selling commercials for NBC's Today & Tonight shows, I rebuilt an 1898 yacht to sail around the world with my wife.
In my first foreign port I met a very astute fellow building a deepwater harbor, schools and hospitals for the British Colonial government in exchange for a 30-year income tax-free contract. Following his instructions, I found a dirt-poor British island in the Caribbean, obtained a contract with the Crown. I began raising millions from investors. Six months later, England gave this 99.9% black island its independence. Read the book for its grim but fascinating ending and my half-million dollar award from IRS

Friends said: "You've got to write about your life!" I did!.......1999-08-08
Here's a successful 45-year-old guy, bored with selling spot TV commercials for NBC' THODAY and TONIGHT shows in NYC. He talks his wife into sailing around the world in his rebuilt 11898 yha yacht. They get as far as the Island of Dominica in the Caribbean; rent a huge old plantation and fall in love with the scenery, climate and lifestyle. The offer to build a deepwater harbor, tourist hotels, casino, roads &schools for the incredibly impoverished island to the British Colonial Office in London, in exchange for a thirty-year tax-free, duty-free contract. The Brits go for it. They begin selling the idea to investors and raise lots of money. Six months later,England give "Internal Self-Rule" to the local govenment. Corrupt politicans covet the plan. They call a special session in the legislative assembly and cancel the contract! What happens next gave the title to this book its true name: This You Won't Believe! The thrilling climax comes when the corrupt government hires thugs who threaten to kill the author if he doesn't leave. Back in the US, they file the loss of $500,00 with IRS
Egotistical Entrepreneur Is Run Out Of Dominica.......1999-04-15
It is hard to feel sorry for Maxx Robinson who, along with his wife, were run out of the island of Dominica. It seems he never relates well with the island people. They are merely cogs in his machine. He is even arrogant enough to want to change the name of the island to one of his own choosing. When building a business one must be sure of the building blocks and Mr. Robinson was woefully undereducated about one of the most important resources of any company--the people. I found the part about the restoration of the ship Picket more enjoyable. I wish he would of kept sailing instead of trying to build an empire.
A real life Forest Gump............1999-02-08
Maxx Robinson is married to my Aunt and his book is about a period in his life that is similar to the movie "Forest Gump". The providence, the inrigue, the people and the humor are captivating to the mind and stir the spirit. Follow him as he rides 20 ft swells off the coast of Haiti, makes deals with the crown, and evades hostiles on a once friendly island. Hats off to you Maxx on a great true story that is still being written!
Book Description
Of all of his works, Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path is the one that Steiner himself believed would have the longest life and the greatest spiritual and cultural consequences. It was written as a phenomenological account of the "results of observing the human soul according to the methods of natural science.
This seminal work asserts that free spiritual activity - understood as the human ability to think and act independently of physical nature - is the suitable path for human beings today to gain true knowledge of themselves and of the universe. This is not merely a philosophical volume, but rather a warm, heart-oriented guide to the practice and experience of living thinking.
Readers will not find abstract philosophy here, but a step-by-step account of how a person may come to experience living, intuitive thinking - "the conscious experience of a purely spiritual content."
During the past hundred years since it was written, many have tried to discover this "new thinking" that could help us understand the various spiritual, ecological, social, political, and philosophical issues facing us. But only Rudolf Steiner laid out a path that leads from ordinary thinking to the level of pure spiritual activity - intuitive thinking - in which we become co-creators and co-redeemers of the world.
Customer Reviews:
What kind of review?.......2001-01-31
Are there words to be found for this book? I wish courage to all those who want to give it a try and read it. Life gets different after the experience...
A Philosophy of Spiritual Activity.......2000-04-13
This is a new translation of Rudolf Steiner's most important work. It has an especially good introduction by Gertrude Hughes Reif. However, I preferred the two older titles: "Philosophy of Freedom" and "Philosophy of Spiritual Activity" because the significance of the experience of the book comes across better for me with those titles. This is not a book that can be "read" in the usual sense. It must be worked on because it forces you to think about your own thinking. Through this difficult process you yourself discover your spiritual self, your "I" being. This book should be the most important book of the last 100 years, but it hasn't been because there are not many people who want to discover themselves. That is too fearful and difficult. It is much easier to be asleep or to belong to a religion or to have a guru. For anyone who is brave and courageous about "Know Thyself!" this is THE book.
Ever wondered how you KNOW anything?.......1998-10-11
Perhaps one of the most significant questions you can ask in your life: How can I know anything? How can I feel sure that what I hold as the basis for reality has any reality at all? These and other significant life questions are worked through in this remarkable philosophical work. Be prepared to do your own work as you follow the intuitive path that has been carefully outlined by Rudolf Steiner. The careful reader will find few books more deeply satisfying. I have returned to re-read it many times.
