It did work!.......2006-02-07
I rad this book 2 years ago. I found it fascinating as I always feard heights and flying (I mean, I used to sweat driving through a bridge). And I had to fly all the time for my job.
But I didn't want to post a review since the ones there were already compelling enough.
But here's my take. I am now a Private Pilot, I fly airplanes in the cockpit and I sleep when I am in the passenger seat.
It was hard, real hard. And I started the training few weeks after I finished the book.
It is a true story, as much as the book's one is fictional.
Thank you Captain Chance.
Amazing!!!!!.......2004-06-26
Wings of Discovery, by Captain Stacey Chance is a perfect book for anyone who has any fears about flying. This book gives you reassuring facts in the form of a entertaining story. Compared to the books about flying that just give you the facts and nothing else, Wings of Discovery adds human emotion to the facts. This book is perfect for people who want to understand how airplanes can fly, airplanes and weather conditions, and so much more. Captain Chance has given people who are afraid to fly, and also people who just want to know more about aviation, a remarkable gift! It comes highly recommended from me!
What an inspiring gift!.......2002-12-21
I had received the book "Wings of Discovery" as a gift from my Mother. Only my family and close friends knew about my intense fear of flying phobia. I have tried many things to overcome my fear, but nothing seemed to do the trick. I started to read "Wings of Discovery" with a half opened mind. I set it in my head that this book would not help me, but I would at least try. I had no idea just how big of an impact this book would have on my life. Once I started to read it however, I simply could not put it down. This 130 page paperback book by Captain Stacey L. Chance fascinated me to no end. It was a non stop journey of how Mark Thomas confronts and conquers his fear of flying. It is a fictional story, however there are many questions that fearful fliers have, that are answered factually. Captain Stacey L. Chance presents us with a quite entertaining and at times humorous story that truly helps people who have this dreadful fear. When I completed the book, I stared off in the distance and actually pictured myself flying my own plane. Now that is something that I would have NEVER EVER imagined myself doing before. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone who has the same fear as me. I will read this book from time to time, but I will also read it again before I board my next flight, and take it with me on the plane. Not only was this book a gift from my Mother, but it was a gift from Captain Stacey. Thank you for giving me a gift that will last a lifetime.
An exhilarating flight.......2002-11-28
Most of us have heard the saying, "There's nothing to fear, but fear itself." This rhetoric sounds good, but to actually put it to use is a completely different story. Fear can stop someone from experimenting with new activities, eating exotic foods, and traveling to foreign lands. But once you overcome the fear, you will most likely discover joy. This joy comes from the accomplishment of breaking the imaginary chains of thought which held you hostage.
Wings of Discovery helps to clip the chains of fear. The premise of the book is about overcoming the fear of flying. Although his father was a pilot, Mark succumbs to a horrendous phobia about flying. Then one day, he spots two ultralight planes having "fun" in the air. While the planes land, Mark tracks them in his car and introduces himself to the pilots. This marks the beginning of his adventure - pursing his passion, following his dream and conquering his fear.
Capt. Stacy L. Chance introduces the reader to a wealth of information about how the Federal Aviation Administration ensures the safety of aircraft. He also entertains by intermingling his vivid descriptions of the landscapes and scenery when his characters take flight. I felt as if I soared through the air, and watched as the coyote ran to keep up with the plane. For anyone really interested in learning to fly, I learned that airplane kits are available. I definitely recommend Wings of Discovery for anyone who wants to learn more about aviation, and to release any fears that hinder them from soaring to new dimensions.
wings of discovery.......2002-11-25
from a very anxious flyer i can only recommend this book,it covers all my worries but manages to "calm" them down and made me realise its just my mind fanning my fears!!ive now flown to lanzarote and done a fear of flying course(i thought i was nervous)some people were wrecks!this also helped immensely.im even going to paris soon ,instead of taking the bus 12hrs versus 1.5hrs on plane.Buy this book and you wont be sorry.

A book that helped me understand Amercia .......2007-08-25
I loved this book, for a start the narrative is wonderful. Rose Wilder Lane is a beautiful writer, very different to modern scholars who love to check, reference and double check every fact to the point of tedium. She simply takes her ideas and goes with the flow, they bristle with energy and she is a wonderfully exciting lady who comes across as a clever friend discussing the world and its woes. Sometimes it is frustrating as you wonder how she came upon them but the overall literary experience makes up for it. She has a clear view of how she sees different people in history, the Ancient Hebrews, the Muslims and Americans that makes an intuitive sense even though its not completely backed up. I particularly enjoyed her views of the break away from paganism. Her concept of paganism being a slavish religion where people belief that outside forces control their actions was illuminating. Before Islam, Meccans worshipped many gods who they thought controlled their actions. Mohammed said there was only one god, Allah the creator and after humans were created they were on their own. She understands how pagan gods were tied up to state machinery and how modern state machinery can create viewpoints that she dubs as pagan. It's a fascinating viewpoint.
I also enjoyed her insights into how America had changed over her lifetime. Many Europeans don't understand how free America was in the 19th century, we have never experienced that sort of minimal government. Thus the concept of conservatism is different in Europe it is tied up with conserving rotten regimes that she described yet in America it is allied with the freedom of past era. I appreciated her instinctive rejection of the changes made in her society and respected her for them, especially when she talked of the form of education that was voluntary and localy organized of which she herslef is an excellent advert for. She's a story teller rather than a formal philosopher, her work (as is her Mother's) is almost biblical in the way that every word is steeped in her beliefs and positive outlook, she is instinctively moral yet she never needs to moralize as she expresses herself so well without the need to lecture and drone. I only wished she had written more, I have a book of her letters where she refers to a new book that she is working on but it never materialized. I just love Rose Wilder Lane, she makes me feel more alive.
Social Studies Primer In One Small Volume.......2005-06-10
Forget high school government and econ classes. Forget American history and psychology. All you need to do is read this short, exquisite work.
Ms. Lane crafted an excellent premise that cannot be over-emphasized or repeated too often: Man succeeds when free. Using history, economics, philosophy, religion, psychology, and sociology, Ms. Lane coherently explains recorded human history and gives it a logical framework for understanding. The stories read like a novel, rather than a textbook. Her prose is succinct, precise and very effective. Her first chapter should be memorized and recited in grade schools throughout this land.
Buy a copy for your favorite student as a graduation present. Give one to your congressman, store clerk, or a total stranger on the bus. Leave it at the Starbuck's or the State License Bureau. This is the finest piece of non-fiction I have ever read. Do yourself a favor and read it at least once a year.
A High School and College MUST READ .......2005-02-05
No wonder the publishers in 1943 did not push this book! It is filled with truth about Freedom and very educational. Not at all what anyone who likes to control people would want you to know about. What is Freedom, what are people operating with instead. What a great book. I am sorry no one ever had me read this book years ago. Such an uplifting style of writing. In this day and age, our Liberty and Freedom is slowly being taken away because we don't know what freedom is. This book explains it simply and with great examples. Thanks Rose Wilder Lane...
Discovery of Freedom also charts course of Saracen Muslims.......2002-01-04
This book is also recommended reading for people interested in Islam and its effect on Arabs, namely that of freedom.
So give it a try.
Just read it........2001-09-26
I've been recommending this book for years. I keep several extras on my shelf to give away.
And, by the way...I'm a professional author, and I'm 'frugal'.
Enough said.

Unfortunately WinG is really not used any longer and I was actually quite upset after going through the entire book and realizing OpenGL and DirectX/3D are the way to go. Buy a DirectX, Direct 3D or OpenGL book if you want something of value.

Book Description
It was an awesome sight, that regiment of Mounted Riflemen slowly marching up the Oregon Trail, already crowded with gold seekers and their animals in 1849. In May of that year five companies of men and 171 supply wagons started from Fort Leavenworth on a five-month, two-thousand-mile march that would take them to Fort Vancouver. After distinguished service in the Mexican War, the rifle regiment had mustered out and then reorganized for the purpose of establishing and garrisoning forts along the Oregon Trail.
The March of the Mounted Riflemen, first published in 1940, is important as the only complete record of one of the longest marches ever made. Most of the book is devoted to the journal of the quartermaster, Major Osborne Cross, which describes the experience of recruits unprepared for such an undertaking. There were numerous desertions among the soldiers and teamsters, who were faced with a cholera epidemic and the heavy loss of horses and mules in poor grazing country, but for those who finally crossed the Cascades there was pleasure in spectacular scenery and interest in dealing with friendly Indians. Included is the journal of George Gibbs, a civilian artist and naturalist who accompanied the marchers, and a report by Colonel William Wing Loring, the commanding officer Together, these primary documents offer valuable information about the Oregon Trail and the great emigration of 1849.
Book Description
Amelia Morgan dreams of a handsome prince who would take one look at her and fall in love. Together they would find a dynasty of magnificent horses and live happily ever after. What she never counted on was her baby brother losing her beloved stallion to a slick card shark. Desperate not to lose her dream, she gambles that the threat of marriage would cause the card shark to cut and run rather than go through with a hasty marriage to a total stranger. Alex Laird is no dummy. He calls Amelia's bluff, fully expecting her to jilt him at the altar. Then the question of the horse's ownership would be indisputably his.
These two stubborn foes go through with a hasty marriage, neither willing to let go of their claim to the horse. Stuck with each other for the time being, each comes up with a plan to secure their future. Unfortunately, their goals are once again at odds. For a while, Alex decides an annulment is the answer to their predicament. Amelia takes a different tact. She believes the only way to see her dream come true is to make Alex fall in love with her. The struggles that ensue become more than a battle of wills. It becomes a battle of the heart where dreams are won and lost at the turn of a card.

Great YA Sci-Fi From the 50s!!.......2007-04-08
I was given this book for my birthday by a girl I had a crush on in the fourth or fifth grade. I hadn't read the first one, but I enjoyed this one just the same. It's interesting to think about it now and knowing that this was written in the 50s when space flight and sci-fi were only just beginning. The theme of marooned aliens and space-ship building teenagers and stowaway professor types has been copied many times since, and still this ranks with the best "family" sci-fis while also predating them. The nastalgic writing style is condusive to building rapport with child-like thought processes, and it helps that many people read this in their youth and are called back to it in adulthood. Read it to your child today and hopefully when they are adults, they'll be able to reach that state again while reading it with their children! I'll be ordering the first one soon to read to my kid!

Great book to read with your child!.......2007-01-01
My son and I don't get the chance to read together as often as we did when he was younger. He is now 9 and likes to read on his own, and I have younger ones to tend to also. But when we do read together, it is really special and this one was a favorite. It is the second in the series (first is Journey to the Mushroom Planet, I think). We loved them both. Very creative and some suspense. Long descriptions and some more complex words make it ideal for a parent to read aloud, unless the child is older and a truly avid reader. We will try the third book, though we've heard the first two are the best. Definitely read the first two.
The best book about mushrooms I 've ever read.......2005-11-18
The book Stowaway to the Mushroom Planet is a great book. Some characters are Chuck and David the original space travelers from the first mushroom planet book. Chuck and David live fairly close to each other. They live pretty close to Cap'n Tom's beach. About the problem in the story, when David, Chuck, and Mr. Theo Bass blast off from Earth they hear something like a soft voice. Lucky for them (not really) a curious professor Horatio Q. Peabody stows away in their space ship but they can't really turn around so they take him along. A while after they've been on the misty green planet of Basidium (the mushroom planet), Horatio enters a sacred place on Basidium without permission. Thanks to that the ancient ones nearly take out Chuck, David, Mr. Theo and a few other people. In the end after they've left Basidium and have gotten back home, Horatio can't remember pretty much anything due to a drink he took on Basidium. Mainly, Horatio's upset and he steals Chuck and David's space ship, but something weird happens while he is in space. I'm not going to give away what happened but, Horatio crash lands about a month later in the ocean not knowing anything about Basidium. Then Chuck and David go help Horatio out of the ocean and walk him up the beach.
Sequels and Science......what a joy!!.......2002-04-02
This book follows the wonderful story set down by Cameron in her first book of the series. As a science teacher, I am still captivated by the wonderful work and research that went into the book in light of the volume of space knowledge known at that time. A wonderful flight to worlds unseen where you can relax with well developed characters and charming guests as well. A book that will grab you by your imagination and never let go! Well worth the read, well worth a reasonable price to own the series. A book I look forward to reading again.
I would love to see the entire series reprinted in paperback in order to have extra copies of it.

Wonderfully done devotional CD.......2007-08-25
I purchased this CD after listening to EWTN and the birth of our baby. After our baby was born, I missed my regular schedule of devotion and prayer time. Those of you with babies know how your schedule changes to that of the one your baby develops into; however I could pop this CD into our player when convenient for me (as apposed to trying to keep a specific time or keep a watch for the EWTN broadcast) and still participate in devotion to Our Lord. Not surprisingly, I would listen during feeding time and it had the added benefit of soothing our baby, too! I would recommend this gift to a new mother so she can keep her connection to prayer time easier. Also great for in the vehicle.
Praying and rolling along.......2007-06-06
I first heard this CD in Church on Divine Mercy Sunday. I purchased it and keep it in the CD player in my car. I've found that I can pray/sing the entire Chaplet on one round trip to Sam's Club and back.
No matter how many times I listen to it, I never tire of it. God is good.
I agree with another reviewer that the blurb after the first song belongs in the CD notes as a written statement and takes the listener out of the peaceful, soulful place into left brain. I just hit the NEXT button.
An Amazing Devotion for Our Times.......2007-03-31
I have been praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for 10 years now but this is certainly my favorite version of the Chaplet. The melody is beautiful and the vocals show definite passion for this message and move me to tears. I wholeheartedly recommend buying this CD and making it a part of your daily prayer life. You will not be disappointed.
Contemporary, Prayerful, and Meditative............2006-07-05
I was moved to tears while praying with this CD the first time through so to say that I am very pleased with this presentation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet may be perhaps a bit of an understatement. The music is contemporary but harmonious with the subject matter so that I didn't find myself myself distracted but drawn in by it. The vocals are very well done and change just enough to mark your place within the prayer without distracting from the meditative purpose. The music should appeal to most everyone except those who think anything except Gregorian Chant is inappropriate and those who must have music with obvious percussion. "I am a Voice Crying for Mercy" is a perfect grace note to the rest and reminded me very much of John Paul II's CD "Abba Pater."
I couldn't give this five stars because of the track which introduces the Divine Mercy Apostolate track between the song("I am a Voice Crying for Mercy")and the body of the chaplet itself. It is terribly jarring in what is otherwise an excellent devotional aid and belonged in writing in the CD notes and not on the CD itself.
Wonderful .......2006-06-26
this is wonderful!!My children love it , they listen to the CD over and over
Product Description
This sung version of the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy DVD, shown on EWTN Network, was filmed live at the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where the Chaplet is recited everday during the three o'clock hour (recalling the time of Christ's death on the cross). Faithful to the authentic prayer found in the Diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, the Chaplet calls upon the merits of Jesus' Passion to bring mercy on the whole world. This new recording will reach people of all backgrounds with the message of mankind's need for God's mercy. The gentle melody, blending piano, guitar, and percussion with lead and background vocals, will stay in your heart long after you've listened. Also features: "I am a voice crying for Mercy."
