Twelve African Design Bookmarks (Small-Format Bookmarks)
ASIN: 0486415716 |
Book Description
A dozen colorful placekeepers depict authentically costumed people of the Watusi, Masai, Ewe, Yoruba, Ashanti, and other tribes.
Book Description
Winner of The National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval
As children mature into adolescence, the impact of their peers, the media, and the surrounding culture can sometimes overwhelm the influence of parents, teachers, and other caring adults, and even their own better judgment.
This book helps young people look critically at the world around them--television, movies, the music industry, and even their friends and acquaintances. Included are discussions of getting along with parents and teachers, dating, falling in love, body image, and eating disorders.
Readers are given an easy, effective method of problem-solving, useful in dealing with negative peer pressure. The emphasis is on how kids have more power over their lives than they may think and how they can bring about changes to make things better. For ages 13 and up.

Customer Reviews:
Odd review????.......2005-05-20
With regard to the 28 June 2001 critique of this book, I always find it disconcerting and off-putting when a reviewer, in the process of overly criticizing typographical errors, commits the same sorts of errors in their own writing. Even as he bemoaned errors of spelling, grammar and punctuation, the reviewer made at least eight spelling errors himself as well as a number of obvious mistakes in punctuation and grammar. That leaves one to question the sincerity of the review itself.
"The Boy In The Mirror Must Have Been Re-edited".......2001-07-09
"The Boy In The Mirror" must have been re-edited. I found the writing refreshingly gut-wrenching, heart-stabbing, straight- shooting, with no holes barred. The grammer, punctuation, and structure were well developed for this first time author. The author tells a tale about what happens when a child is ignored, looked-over, not heard, not seen as an individual, and made to feel unwanted. It serves to remind everyone how precious children are, and how all children deserve to be loved, nurnished, and protected by our society. The story, read as a parable, should jolt the memory of everyone's childhood where, at one time or another, they may have felt lost, lonely, and, maybe a little unloved. This author reminds us that the children of today are the leaders and creators of our tomorrow and deserve the best that society can offer, otherwise our future is doomed. Congratulations to this author who had the courage to remind us of this.

Joseph Klingman has so apparently pretentions to be a " romancier ". In his pulp story he tackles a most challenging problem which has been explored and masterfully covered by established international names in the world of the true , real novel.
The work lacks thoughtful progress and psychologicaly well-thought out denouement, based on a type of " intuitive " writing which underlines the " growing pains " and " romantic agony " approaches by the want-to-be-so-much a writer-novice.
The budding pulpist, with some discipline and concept of structure, character profile with some sense of characteristics to each and everyone, a keen sense of modern contemporary writing, might just see light if the basic errors of outline and construction of a contemporary romance ( concept allready dated ) will be put right.
The pretty feckless boy becomes a nasty calculatingly go-getter. The storyteller exploits a brand of homosexuality to denegrate his deja-vu " charade type" of inhabitants of the Vatican. The katharsis, if one could describe the calculatingly behaviourpattern of the pretty protagonist by such a noble literary term, ( surely the vatican has a moral code as each sound ,sane individual too has, as such ) is aired in a rather puerile, cheap and vulgar level.
One would like to know on what literary principles this first novelette ,were based for publishing? Surely the theme, postulated in an adult manner, might make compelling better class reading. It would appear that the writer has some hidden talents ?
The book sports spelling and grammatical errors.
The Boy in the Mirror.......2001-06-13
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Boy in the Mirror". The story chronicles the life Joe ("baby boy"): from a radiant, happy child, to a handsome, troubled boy struggling with his sexuality, to beautiful, naïve young man trapped by the lust and hypocrisy of the Church, to a wiser, elegant, mature man who finds his way to freedom. It's a tender, but sometimes dark, look at how the dreams and failures of our parents and grandparents shape our own destinies, and about how being gay can magnify and complicate these relationships. Ultimately, however, it's a story about the danger of abrogating ownership of your own life, and the struggles and consequences of regaining ownership. The struggles of Joe as he comes to grips with his homosexuality and his sense of self reflect what many gay men and women experience as they find their way in their own lives. We are all, to some extent, that child in the mirror. I was impressed with the concise style of this book and the refreshing economy of language. This is the first book by a promising new author. I recommend "The Boy in the Mirror" and I look forward to future books by Mr. Klingman.
A STORY LINE THAT WILL TOUCH YOUR HEARTS.......2000-10-11
The simplicity of this thought provoking novel brings back child hood memories that all baby boomers can share. Its charm and honesty warms your heart until you will want to give all your family members a hug. You'll want to love and forgive everyone, and know that you are worth what you know you really are and always have been, and that no one will ever be less that their true measure of love to you.

Book Description
Eight-year-old Joel, an autistic boy, is locked in the world of his imagination. It is there that he accidentally stumbles on an ancient, powerful evil that has remained dormant for many years. Once hidden in a forest, the Evil has entered the modern world, lurking behind the glass of mirrors, televisions, and computer screens. An unlikely and unwilling champion, Joel becomes humanity's only hope of preventing the Evil from expanding. Frightened and disoriented, Joel slowly feels his fear change to rage as he discovers the full extent of the Evil's influence on his life and his family. Joel's fury must become his best friend if he is to overcome his terror and confront the diabolical entity that is hell-bent on destroying him. Mirror Image is a classic tale of good versus evil, innocence versus malevolence, and fantasy versus grim reality. A chilling horror novel packed with suspense.

After the hectic events of Invincible Vol. 4: Head of the Class, Mark - a.k.a. Invincible - while continuing to deal with the loss of his father, finds himself face to face with piles of villains ad the worst conflict of all: teenage love! Collects Invincible #20-24, plus Invincible #0.
Customer Reviews:
Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Some more entertaining Invincible action. Mark goes off to do the university thing, and has to deal with the evil American roommate idea, and having a secret identity and living with a stranger sort of problem.
How to keep a girlfriend, some good old fashioned super villain violence, and being tested by an alien superhuman planet defender inspector.
Contains Invincible #20-24 and #0.......2006-05-03
Writing by Robert Kirkman and art by Ryan Ottley. If you're considering buying this paperback, it's assumed that you are familiar with the series and have read previous issues (if not you should get those first). Volume 5 contacts Invincible #20-24 and #0. Mark continues to have trouble with the loss of his father and fights several generic villians. There isn't much in these issues regarding the storyline between Mark and his dad, but instead they focus more on Mark's relationship with his girlfriend. Some great writing in these issues.
Incredible.......2005-11-23
Robert Kirkman's Invincible is one of the best comic book series on the market. Recalling the tone and spirit of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's The Amazing Spider-Man (but definitely in tune with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Veronica Mars generation), Invincible is the tale of a teenage super-hero who's trying to have a normal life and save the universe on a daily basis. This fifth trade paperback is, perhaps, the best in the series thus far. Kirkman's got the magic touch!

Book Description
Based on an American television show, of the same name, it brims with Michael Moore's special brand of subversive humour that melds outright silliness with poignant realisation.
From the oh–so–obvious Serial Killer Next Door who's ignored by his neighbours: to Mike enjoying some quality time with Dr. Kevorkian : to raising money for Charles Keating, this is a compilation of classic TV Nation that'll make you laugh and think at the same time.
This book is a must read for anyone and everyone.
Customer Reviews:
Light but readable.......2007-03-03
I am a huge fan of Michael Moore but sometimes he seems to like getting new products out on the market without putting the proper amount of work into the product.
In this book, you need to have watched the TV Nation series before reading the book as the knowledge from those shows (brilliant shows by the way) means that you can understand this book.
For people not lucky enough to be able to buy a copy of the tapes (they seem to be rare these days), then you will read this book and wonder why Moore is so light in the writing. Lots of photos and some humour but nearly at the level of Stupid White Men.
Readable nevertheless for the Moore devotees.
Brevity is the soul of wit.......2006-08-27
Brevity is the soul of wit. Each segment of this TV show was allotted 8 minutes. I think that's what Michael Moore forgot at some point after 1995. When to stop talking.
I didn't see ROGER AND ME in 1989. I found the DVD in China almost 15 years later. My first exposure to Michael Moore was through this TV show. At that time, I'd left my working class roots behind to become a homeowner and a businessman. I'd all but abandoned my writing, and I rarely even read. When my mind was working, it was working for the company. When it was too tired, there was TV. The glistening idiot box. Yeah buddy, I was a citizen of the TV nation.
This show absolutely cracked me up. He went in, skewered someone in "the machine" (big business, rich folks, government) and then he was outta there. Each episode lasted 60 minutes, 45 without commercials, and had at least 5 segments, 8 minutes each. Brevity for the short attention span of the TV nation. And hey, 8 minutes is enough.
For example, "Love Night." 8 minutes, 4 hate groups as targets. The TV Nation Gay Men's Chorus serenades North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms by singing "What The World Needs Now Is Love." It doesn't matter which side of this debate you're on. The skit is absurd, hilarious, and only about 2 minutes long. In this particular example, as in so many others, cops are involved.
As a two-minute bit, it's hilarious. As a feature film like FAHRENHEIT 911, I suppose we get a long-winded political history and a blunt object that polarizes people so badly that I lost 100 subscribers simply by reviewing it.
It's easy to say those people weren't gonna buy my books anyway, and they weren't, but the divisiveness reminds me of George Wang's life during the Cultural Revolution, as described in BETWEEN TWO WORLDS. It's crazy.
Back to TV NATION. You know I've been reviewing some hefty tomes lately. I needed a break. This is it! Something I can scatter across several evenings without losing anything. It's probably better that way, in fact, to avoid the redundancy of seeing too many episodes compressed into a single sitting.
So, if you're in the mood for a short story collection instead of a novel, and you want some irreverent humor that'll crack you up, this is the book to get.
When Michael Moore was funny..........2005-10-18
When this show first aired as a summer replacement many years ago, I could not believe that NBC (and then Fox) would put Michael Moore's commie self on national television, but they did. When I saw this book I wanted to find out how this decision was made.
I found out, and you can, too. This book is for people who think Dilbert has sold out, and that the proletariat will eventually rise up to overtake the means of production. Even with the recent strong reaction to our policies in Iraq and New Orleans, this outcome still seems mighty remote...
Michael Moore is gifted, persistent, and wrong about everything. His is the voice of a victimized America - offended and self-pitying, but with a good reason. Enjoy this book as much as I did. Once voices like his are silent, we're greatly diminished as a nation, TV nation or not.
And you can get the communist party's website URL from the appendix for the price of the softcover.
Compelling and Provocative .......2005-07-10
Creator Michael Moore's Adventures in a TV Nation chronicles the best episodes of this most radical experiment in mainstream television broadcasting. The Gay Men's Chorus serenades the home of Senator Jesse Helms from his front lawn. Janeane Garafolo and a small army of riffraff storm the public-yet-exclusive beach of Greenwich, Connecticut. A benefit concert is staged to raise funds for corporate welfare. An Emmy-nominated black actor and a convicted white felon see who can catch a cab faster in New York City. A red 18-wheeler emblazoned with the Soviet hammer and sickle freights Communist paraphenalia across the country, stopping at church socials, PTA functions, and Jerry Falwell's church en route. If you're a Michael Moore fan... I highly recommend this one.
Funny and Entertaining.......2004-10-06
This book has some very funny interesting parts, it began very good but good a little bit slow towards the end, I will bet that watching the show is probably much more entertaining.
But as always, Michael Moore delivers!

Novelization of the series pilot movie........1999-01-03
If liked James Caan in the series pilot, you will probably like this novel. If you prefer the other guy, this is not written about him.
Good enough as TV sci fi goes.
