From Jamaica to New York, the Midwest and the Middle East, dachshunds create nothing but trouble for their human companions. Through the eyes of the hapless Jack, these stories explain how the hounds, not the humans, are in charge.

Redstripe, Mon!.......2007-05-07
I was a bit sad that the book was soo short, but I really enjoyed it. I am currently reading "Another Redstripe, Please!", and so far it is what I expected! I'll keep you posted!
Dachsies Forever!.......2006-02-23
I totally enjoyed "Redstripe and Other Dachshund Tales". In fact, I sat down one evening and read it from cover to cover and wished there was more. It was very entertaining and made me realize that my Heidi isn't as unique as I had thought. It was fun and lighthearted. I recommend it to anyone who owns a dachshund or is thinking about getting one. My one objection (the reason for 4 stars and not 5) is that I had hoped it would be as entertaining for my grandchildren, but I don't think it is necessarily a book for young children.
Jack Magestro is a proud dachshund owner.......2004-01-17
Redstripe And Other Dachshund Tales by retired educator Jack Magestro is a humorous and merry collection of five short stories about the exploits of dachshunds - a beloved breed of pet also colloquially known as "weiner dogs." Jack Magestro is a proud dachshund owner, and Redstripe And Other Dachshund Tales is a delightful and witty treat sure to resonate with people everywhere who have their own canine companions as part of "the family".
A true love story.......2003-11-21
This book is a real love story about the pure affection and enthusiasm that dogs, particularly our "hotdogs" (I have two), generate. And, it does so with humor and optimism in the spirit of Herriot.
I particularly liked the Christmas story which celebrated the unique gifts given to us by this breed, while humanizing-- but still respecting-- the manger scene.
Good work, Jack!
Redstripe & other Dachshund Tales.......2003-10-09
I thoroughly enjoyed Redstripe and shared it with other Dachshund friends. I giggled through the antics of the little hounds in this book. The characters are amazingly realistic to the breed and the book is very enjoyable fast reading.
I have a background in dog grooming and dog breeding and have read numerous dog books throughout my the years so I would like to compliment Mr. Magestro on his amusing compilation of stories so accurate to this strong willed little hound breed.

The anticipation of sex keeps you on your toes!.......2006-07-25
Very Captivating! This is the third one I have read of the "Deadly" series, and it is the best so far. It got my heart thumping, and I wanted to keep reading more!
Artists Strangled & An Engagement Announced - Best Cahill Novel Yet!.......2005-09-28
"Deadly Caress" is author Brenda Joyce's fifth installment, and one of her most suspenseful so far, in her historical mystery/romance series featuring New York City debutante Francesca Cahill. The novel begins with Ms. Cahill, amateur sleuth, society bluestocking, and heiress to a considerable fortune receiving multi-millionaire play boy Calder Hart's shocking declaration of marital intent. Fran is the only woman he will marry, no ifs, ands or buts accepted. By the way, Calder had sworn himself, personally, against marriage at all costs until met his match in Miss Cahill, who became his first real friend ever. She also happens to be extremely intelligent, quirky, as unconventional as Calder, quite beautiful and NYC's first female private investigator in the year 1902! Francesca is determined to set Hart straight about her own personal creed - if she cannot wed his half brother, New York City Police Commissioner Rick Bragg, whom she really loves, and whose estranged spouse has just returned from a four year holiday in Paris to claim her wifely rights, than Francesca will remain a spinster - forever. However, before she can go debate with Calder, whom she cares for and lusts after, about the pitfalls of a mutual future, she receives a telephone call from Bragg. He informs her that famous actress and chanteuse Grace Conway, her brother Evan's longtime mistress, has been murdered in her neighbor's downtown art studio.
Melinda Neville, a renowned painter, is Conways close friend, and apparently has gone missing while Ms. Conway was strangled to death in the vandalized studio. Neville might have seen the murder and fled the scene unable to protect her neighbor. In Brenda Joyce's former romance mystery, "Deadly Desire," Sarah Channing, another brilliant artist and Francesca's soon-to-be sister-in-law, brother Evan's fiancee, was brutalized and threatened by an unidentifiable masked white male, while her own art studio was wrecked. One portrait, in particular, was slashed and smeared with blood red paint. The perpetrator and MO seem to be the same. And Evan Cahill, presently suffering from a near lethal beating because he has not paid his considerable gambling debts, is the only connection between the three women. As Evan quickly becomes the police's number one suspect, Francesca and Rick take up the case to prove him innocent. Clearly, a madman is stalking female artists and vandalizing their studios with murder on his mind. Evan in no way fits this description. Meanwhile, while Bragg tries to avoid entanglements with his seductive wife, Francesca is less inclined to fend off Hart's advances. Then the City Strangler strikes again, killing another woman, a potential witness, and stepping-up the tension another notch.
Sound like a soap opera? It is, in all but title! Although I have been hooked on the series' secondary characters and their ongoing stories, I have been very skeptical about the serious flaws in the narrative from book one. With "Deadly Desire," I think Ms. Joyce hit her stride and continues to improve with "Deadly Caress." While far from perfect in terms of believability, this series, in classic soap style, is loads of fun but frequently stretches readers' credulity. These books actually seems more like installments in a serial novel than stand alone romance/mystery. In fact, most of the characters are from the previous books and the mystery is part of the continuing storyline, involving Francesca, her family, friends and those who touch upon their lives. This approach suits very well and certainly has me returning for more.
Say what you will, I am hooked! If you are interested, I would suggest reading the previous Francesca Cahill novels before "Deadly Caress," as this is a continuing saga and very addictive. Come and meet the folks and become involved in their lives, loves, traumas, mysteries, and the delightful historical setting of 1902-1903 New York City, with its society balls and glitter, the tenements and roughs, gambling halls and beautiful, exotic call girls. Seth Low, the mayor, was recently elected on a reform platform to fight the Tammany Hall machine, and the police commissioner he appointed took some of the actions the fictional Rick Bragg has taken and faced many of the same difficult issues Bragg faces in attempting to reform the terribly corrupt police department. If Ms Joyce takes the series past 1903, Rick will be out of a job as the next administration is a "Tammany beast." Perhaps, Bragg will use the opportunity to run for Senator. ENJOY!!

Best in the series. . . so far!.......2004-07-09
I loved this book. The relationship between Francesca and Calder really keeps the reader hooked. Although he claims that he doesn't believe in real love I believe that he soon will be singing another tune. This book was a quick read and very enjoyable.
Great Book!!!!.......2004-01-30
I can't wait for Brenda Joyce to come out with another one after Deadly Promise. I have read all of the deadly series and I cannot get enough. I hope the next book comes out soon!
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!.......2003-11-04
I am an avid reader, and absolutely love the Deadly Series by Brenda Joyce. I sat down and read this book from start to finish. I could not get enough. I love all the characters and I love the relationship between Francesca and Hart. I can hardly wait until the next book is released. Brenda Joyce is excellent! I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good love story, a lot of drama, and lots of laughs.

Michael A. Stackpole returns as author of the eighth book in the X-Wing series, taking over again after three novels from Aaron Allston. Wedge Antilles has transferred back from Wraith to Rogue Squadron, and many of the characters from Stackpole's first four books reappear, including Ysanne Isard, the villain of Book 4, The Bacta War.
Now that Grand Admiral Thrawn is dead, the New Republic wants to go after the warlords and decides to make an example of Krennel, who murdered a whole family in his rise to power. But Krennel has an unexpected ally: the treacherous Isard, whom the Rogues thought they had killed, is now plotting their downfall. She uses New Republic prisoners, with whom Rogue pilot Corran Horn was held for a while, as bait. The plot twists and turns, sometimes confusingly, as Krennel, Isard, and the Rogues try to outguess one another.
As ever in the X-Wing books, there are plenty of space battles, with Wedge Antilles, now promoted to general, leading the way. Meanwhile, the aversion Imperials feel toward nonhumans and the tensions between the various species making up the New Republic provide a couple of subplots that make this a thoughtful, action-packed installment in the series. --Liz Sourbut, Amazon.co.uk
Book Description
Sleek, swift and deadly, the famed X-Wing fighters have earned their reputation as the Rebel Alliance's ultimate strike force the hard way--first in battle, the last line of defense. Now they must make a deal with the devil herself--an enemy whose ultimate goal is their total annihilation.
It's the kind of mission only Wedge Antilles and the Rogue Squadron would dare to undertake. Against impossible odds they will stage a daring raid into an enemy stronghold--only to be rescued from certain destruction by an unexpected ally.
Ysanne Isard, the ruthless Imperial commander, has appeared on the scene seemingly from out of nowhere. Now she proposes a most unusual alliance, offering to help Wedge rescue his captured comrades from Imperial Warlord Admiral Krennel's sadistic prison camp.
But her offer is not without a price. Wedge must lead Rogue Squadron in Isard's deadly struggle against an enemy made in her own image. It's an offer Wedge would love to refuse, for Isard is certain to betray them. But how can they leave their comrades at Krennel's mercy? The answer is: they can't--even if it means being caught between Krennel's ruthlessness and Isard's treachery.

The triumphant return!.......2006-11-06
As far as I'm concerned, this book ties for my favorite X-wing book, coming in dead-even with The Bacta War. I like that the threads of the surrounding universe are pulled together here, starting with the attack on the Bilbringi Shipyards from the finale of The Last Command. It was an excellent place to put Rogue Squadron into the story, and it allows us, the readers, to see a small touch of the Thrawn Crisis from the perspective of Corran Horn and the others.
Another factor that makes me enjoy this book so much is Prince-Admiral Delak Krennel, the main antagonist for the book (despite the title of the story). He is an Imperial Admiral who murdered the sucessor to Emperor Palpatine and stole his holdings, a dozen worlds and enough ships and soldiers to defend them. He has taken no offensive action against the New Republic since taking control of the Ciutric Hegemony, but the New Republic has decided that ANY former Imperial warlords must be crushed and swiftly. I love the fact that Krennel's Hegemony is invaded to further the political ends of the New Republic, not because he's been out attacking innocent civilians, or building a doomsday device, or displays amazing Dark Jedi powers.
The battle sequences in this book are phenomenal, and the political intrigue between Isard, Krennel, Wedge and others is top-notch. I am also very impressed with Stackpole's use of the Bothans (particularly Borsk Fey'lya) and that irascible rogue Booster Terrik. In all courts, a masterpiece!
Another great x-wing book........2006-01-24
I liked this book. Stackpole returns to write another x-wing adventure and does well. It is not the best of the series but better than most Star Wars books written between the Thrawn trilogy and the New Jedi Order. The thing that bothered me was the summary on the back cover had little or nothing to do with the story. This book is worth the time to read and it will be enjoyable.
not quite up to the level of Stackpole's other X-Wing.......2005-09-23
"Isard's Revenge" picks up the action smack in the middle of a big space battle against the forces of the Grand Admiral Thrawn. Those who have read Timothy Zhan's "The Last Command" will be very familiar with this space battle as this is the battle which closes the Thrawn Trilogy. Now we see it more specifically from the perspective of the Rogues. But where this battle was conclusion in Zahn's book, it is only prologue in "Isard's Revenge". With Thrawn now out of the way, the New Republic must further solidify its authority throughout the galaxy and the best way to do this is to take the fight to the warlords who have carved out little niches of galaxy for themselves. To start, the New Republic will attack a warlord named Krennel. Krennel provides the New Republic some moral authority in their military action because in his rise to power he had murdered several political figures including an entire family and it is under the pretext of bringing Krennel to justice that the New Republic will take him down. Assigned to this, of course, is the Rogue Squardron, the best of the best.
At the end of "The Bacta War", Ysanne Isard was presumed killed when her shuttle was destroyed at Thyferra. Thus was one of the nastier elements of the Empire eliminated. But she didn't die and she is back trying to bring Krennel into power. Or...is she? As the former Intelligence Director of the Empire her motives are her own and are seldom shared with others. As events unfold the Rogues begin to believe that it is possible that Isard really is alive. The thought is frightening, but they have a mission to do.
Michael Stackpole's four previous X-Wing novels were suburb. They were fast paced, exciting, and often funny. I was looking forward to reading "Isard's Revenge" moreso than many other Star Wars novels. Here Stackpole slows down the pace and somehow the novel does not work as well as his previous books had. The reason why is unclear. It features the same characters and many of the same traits that made the other novels so good but this one is lacking "something". It is difficult to say what except that this book is not as fast paced, exciting or funny as the others. It is still a decent enough story, but the action does not have the same sense of importance compared to Isard's release of the Krytos virus in the early X-Wings. The stakes are lower.
Still, X-Wing is one of the best parts of the world of Star Wars and "Isard's Revenge" is book 8 of 9. It is worth reading for fans of Star Wars, Stackpole, and X-Wing. It is just not quite up to the level of the first four X-Wing novels.
-Joe Sherry
Stackpole's Final X-Wing Book is the Finale of A Master.......2004-02-29
Isard's Revenge is the 5th and final X-Wing novel written by Michael Stackpole. Beginning with one of the final scenes from Tim Zahn's The Last Command, Isard's Revenge segues seamlessly into the expanded universe. With the Imperials once again in retreat, the New Republic looks to liberate some worlds from a psychopathic Warlord named Krennal. Wedge Antilles, now a general, and the rest of Rogue Squadron are thrust into a espionage ladden maze full of double crosses and unexpected allies. Not only is danger lurking around every corner but an old enemy arises to give Antilles, Horn and Celchu the ultimate plan to bring down Krennal, but what is the cost of this information? At times Isard's Revenge is a rip-roaring space saga, at others it does fade a bit, yet overall it's a great read and a compelling comclusion to Stackpole's X-Wing books.
Series entry has clear case of sequel fatigue........2003-11-08
Perhaps they needed a new writer to create a new story because Stackpole's return to the X-Wing line is a tired affair, its plot having that stale 'one sequel too many' flavor that overplayed franchises tend to get after awhile. This entry skips ahead several years to the climax of the Thrawn Trilogy (which I have yet to read - having all the books characters and plots be connected is both a blessing and a curse, it is almost impossible to figure out where to start without worrying about spoilers for other books) and the weakened New Republic sets its eyes on a war criminal warlord named Krennel. But so has Ysanne Isard, didn't one of the Wraith's say they suspected she was still alive? The enemy of my enemy is my ally, right? Maybe. There is plenty of action, but it lacks the emotional investment that Allston managed to put into the fun, exciting, and, most surpisingly, funny (but the right kind of funny) Wraith Squadron series, and the book did not grip my attention the way the far superior Solo Command did. So it goes.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Beginner's book.......2007-06-20
The best part of this book is the drumming CD. I have many drumming CD's including the one by Michael Harner, and her CD is the best one I've come across. I use it for all my journeying excellent when there is a drum available.
This book is exactly what it says, it is for beginning, it was not my first book on Shamanism, but it was the first book in which I use and journey, with much success, I must say. I met two of my power animals on the first journey and I highly recommend this book. However for a more comprehensive understanding of Shamanism for a beginner I would recommend
Shamanism: As A Spiritual Practice for Daily Living by Tom Cowan. For those who like to see a more culture aspect to Shamanism, I would recommend Chosen by the Spirits : Following Your Shamanic Calling by Sarangerel. At any rate this a excellent books that I highly recommend.
Great Book.......2007-02-13
This is a great book for a beginner like me. I purchased it with the accompanying book, Soul Retrieval and enjoyed both. I especially like the CD that came with this one, it is good to listen to while meditating.
Technology of the sacred.......2006-12-07
Shamanic Journeying is a short book that very effectively addresses the basics of this primary tool of shamanic practice used for spirit contact, awareness enhancement, and healing. As a technology of the sacred, journeying is the key to unlocking a host of benefits and gifts of the spirit. If you want to learn how to journey, I highly recommend this book!
A definitive manual for students of what is known in metaphysical studies as "shamanic journeying".......2006-08-05
Enhanced with the inclusion of an accompanying 60-minute CD "Drumming for Three Shamanic Journeys", Shamanic Journeying: A Beginner's Guide is a definitive manual for students of what is known in metaphysical studies as "shamanic journeying". Shamanic journeying may be undertaken for purposes of divination, for personal healing, to meet one's power animal or guide, and for many other mystic and/or metaphysical purposes. Author, therapist and counselor Sandra Ingerman provides a clear description of ritual procedures and expectations for those who wish to learn to journey. She suggests that journeyers consider forming a journey group that meets regularly, perhaps twice a month, that will evolve into a community. She offers good advice to journeyers, such as the caution to not compare information received with other group members, to not "brag", and to not compete. She also cautions the journeyer not to journey unprepared, and not to listen to the CD of drumming enclosed while driving. These practical applications and suggestions are an invaluable part of Shamanic Journeying. Ingerman teaches that in shamanic traditions, the shaman who "brags" is perceived as being foolish and losing power. She states: "Shamanic journeying is an incredible tool to receive healing and guidance in our lives...You are embraced by the love of the universe and the helping spirits. Open your heart to the love, wisdom, and healing they have to share. In doing this, you can not only change your own life, but the changes in consciousness we can achieve together through shamanic journeying can transform the world as well (p. 79)."
Why do you need so much help to live your life?.......2005-10-15
I agree that at 78 pages it's a fast simple read, Although, I have a hard time with the fact that If you tell anyone you are a Shaman you will lose your power. I also had a hard time with Journeying to ask life questions such as; How should I handle a certian situation, What should I do....or better yet, have someone else Journey for you to ask these questions. I don't get it. If you need this much help to live YOUR life...then why bother. I get the fact of Journeying for enlightenment, but I think the Author needs more help than just journeying. I'm looking to enlighten my life/spirit not journey so my power animal/teacher can tell me how to live my life.
I think the best part of this book was the free drumming cd.

Customer Reviews:
great guide.......2006-07-04
great cd-I liked that it broke up the chapters and left the journey track at the end. the information is very easy to understand. I really like Sandra Ingermans work. She gives you all the info you need to start taking journey's with confidence. the journey drumming is great. In fantasy I wish the drumming track could have been an hour long. but for beginning it is fine. I would recommend the cd to any one wanting to learn about Shamanism.
INSIGHTFUL GUIDANCE FOR BEGINNERS.......2004-01-01
I was highly impressed with insights and suggestions on this recording. One can put only so much information on one CD and for what you can learn and experience as a newcomer to Shamanic journeying in a little bit more than ONE HOUR, I have found this CD awesome.
I particularly liked suggestions relating how to ask good questions and set an intent for a journey. One particular suggestion would apply to any form of divination.
For example, if you ask your spirit helper (power animal, etc.) "Should I marry so and so?", the spirit helper may say "Sure, go ahead". Then when you get married to that person, you find out that the marriage was a complete disaster and start to wonder about the effectiveness of Shamanic journeying.
Sandra points out that spirit helpers view everything as a "learning experience", so the most appropriate question would be "What will I learn if I marry so and so?" The answer may be "betrayal" and you may decide that you don't really care much to learn about betrayal, to which your spirit helper answers, "OK, then, don't marry that person".
The quality of the questions we ask greatly influences the quality of helpful information we get.
This CD has contains about one hour of information consisting of introduction to shamanic journeying and a lot of good key points for successful journeying and then about 10 minutes or drumming and rattling for the actual journeying experience. I think it is a wonderful gift for someone who wants to get a taste of shamanic journeying.
good overview and practice for beginners and westerners.......2003-11-13
and what i mean by that is: if you are unfamiliar with shamanism or know it only from a technical, readerly aspect, this would certainly be a good choice. if you already have her SEEING IN THE DARK cassettes, there will be some repetition. and then if you have some of her books, again, it will be info you are familiar with. this CD though does have a 12-minute drumming track...of course, you may rather get a drumming-only cd or tape from harner or martin duffy (ireland) and then get sandra's cassettes. so, that's the deal. fish around. but for the price amazon has this, it is a worthy gift for someone you think would get something from this practice. another thing is sandra's voice. it is earthy, natural and calming but in a grounding, not flighty way. and her drumming/rattling is nice. it works. ok, one other thing. other fine scholar-practitioners of cultural (and not "core") shamanism like christian ratsch (Shamanism and Tantra in the Himalayas) believe that this fundamentally recent wave of Core journeying is NOT effective. he is not too fond of harner and co. but i think what sandra is offering IS genuine...and she obviously HAS the gift...but many perhaps DO need entheogenic propulsion in addition to drumming etc. to each his own. some of us can function in both of those dynamics. i think too many shy away from the psychoactively charged realms...and TOO MANY spend too much time and rely on peyote/DMT/nutmeg/etc too much. so there. find YOUR balance. all said, this is a fine CD and intro. like it says, this IS "The Beginner's Guide"...
