Book Description
Two things bind this sampler of thrillers: the diminutive Poirot's deductive brilliance and his partner Hastings's obtuseness. The eleven cases here involve film stars, valuable jewels, and abductions as Poirot stylishly uncovers the truth. This is a thrilling short story collection by the master of mystery and the most popular author of all time.
Customer Reviews:
fun short stories and David Suchet is great!.......2007-09-25
This is a fun set of short stories and David Suchet's reading is really wonderful. He does a great Japp (sounds just like the actor on the TV series). His female voices leave a little to be desired, but overall his characterizations are really good.
This was Poirot at his best, many times!.......2007-02-24
I enjoyed all the different stories that were in this book. It is great fun to listen to. My book came in great condition and the seller kept me informed of when it was shipped and when I could expect to receive. Wonderful service.
Not for me, but not bad.......2007-02-15
This is the first book on "tape" I have every tried to listen to. I am from the midwest in America, so the accents are a little hard for me to follow... I haven't made it past the first track... that could be my problem though!
Poirot Investigates: Eleven Complete Mysteries.......2007-01-19
I travel a lot and drive. The great thing about books on CD's (or tapes) are someone else reads to you while you are driving. Great fun.
Excellent collection of Chinese folktales.......2006-04-23
I was pleasantly surprised with this collection of short-story mysteries. I had seen the television versions, but the stories are still a delight! Suchet performs brilliantly, able to play both the English characters as well as the delightfully Belgian Poirot. The best thing about these short mysteries is that if you wish to pit your wits against the Great Detective, they are solvable. Also, unlike some of the other CD collections, the mysteries end on the CD they start on, so you have 2-3 complete mysteries per CD. This is really great if you are using them in your car.

Even Poirot would not approve.......2006-02-21
The book contains Poirot mysteries that were also produced for the television series. Reading the book, I was immediately familiar with several of the stories- but was quickly disappointed completely.
Each mystery is presented as brief as possible, almost in a Cliff Notes fashion-- no, make that in newspaper-article fashion. There is little in the way of atmosphere, almost no character development. The names of faceless characters in each story swim by, surrounded by a brevity of facts and mismash of details, with Poirot incredibly solving each in the final paragraph. In many of the mysteries, Poirot presents the solution with facts from out of nowhere. Each mystery has the feel of a book report written in 200 words or less. I'm halfway through the book, and Poirot's signature moustache has not even been mentioned once!
The book is subtitled "A Hercule Poirot Anthology", and should be treated as such: a miscellaneous assortment of.. not much. If you're looking for a good read, go elsewhere. This one is not worth a look.
Sherlock Holmes style stories.......2006-02-17
This is a very pleasant collection of short stories;
Although we have a tipical Poirot and the Agatha Christie style is evident, I think it was intended as a sort of tribute to the Sherlock Holmes adventures: the titles, subject matter and general feel reminded me of those. These stories are to be found also in the tv series starring David Suchet.
Poirot and Hastings as their most Holmes and Watson.......2004-01-28
This is the first collection of Poirot short stories, originaly published in 1924. Christie appears to have been very heavily influenced by the Sherlock Holmes stories while writing these. The relationship between Poirot and Hastings is very like that of Holmes/Watson, the stories in general are reminiscent of some of the Sherlock Holmes stories, particularly "The Veiled Lady" and "A Scandal in Bohemia". While the tone and settings of the stories are somewhat derivative the solutions are pure Christie.
The stories included in this collection are:
The Adventure of the Western Star
The Tragedy of Marsdon Manor
The Adventure of the Cheap Flat
The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge
The Million Dollar Bond Robbery
The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb
The Jewel Robbery at the Grand Metropolitan
The Kidnapped Prime Minister
The Disappearance of Mr. Davenheim
The Adventure of the Italian Nobleman
The Case of the Missing Will
The Veiled Lady
The Lost Mine
The Chocolate Box
A Short Take on Hercule Poirot.......2003-08-13
Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie's wonderful Belgium creation, plows through the short stories in Poirot Investigates with somewhat less literary success than he does through the author's delightful Poirot novels. The short story form does not suit the mystery as practiced by Christie as there are always too few suspects and too few clues (or red herrings) and it becomes easier and easier to guess the solution. The author relies too heavily on similar devices, particularly the use of disguises (taken to an unbelievable level in "The Kidnapped Prime Minister" but stretching at the levels of credibility even before then). The stories can still be delightful for Poirot fans and there is even a story in which the great detective gets it wrong. Perhaps on a muggy, steamy day (like today for me) these stories can be fun when one wants to read a mystery but realizes the air is too heavy to concentrate for more than a dozen or so pages at a time. Recommended for those already enamored of the Belgian and his little gray cells. Not so much for readers new to Christie.
14 cases.......2003-03-13
The colorful Belgian detective with the waxed mustache and the egg-shaped head uses his little gray cells to solve 14 of his most baffling cases. It is an interesting read; but none of the crimes were proven beyond a reasonable doubt

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Story.......2007-08-14
I think you need to read these in order because seeing the parents, have these wonderful girls and them growing up to wonderful people then having their story is what really drew me in.
This was Elspeth Murray's story. This is the daughter of Eric and Bethia.
Cormac Armstrong. Her love.
I liked this book!
Highland Vow.......2007-02-11
Being of Scottish descent. I love reading historical romances with a Scotish twist. She is a wonderful writer and I look forward to more of here Scotish themed books.
Great Scottish Romance.......2006-06-25
Elspeth Murray rescues a wounded knight Cormac Armstrong ten years ago and falls in love with him. Fast forward ten years, Cormac rescues Elspeth from an unwanted suitor and is stunned that seeing her has awakened his own romantic feelings for her. Gilly (Highland Bride) and many Murray cousins from other books are mentioned in the beginning of the story.
What a WUSS!!!!.......2006-03-06
It got 2 stars because the beginning wasn't so bad but come on...he is still panting after a woman who passed him up not once but 4 times over...and she is betrothed again!!! Vow or not what a loser! I was willing to go along with the story line until he gave up Elspeth and then I say "forget it...he is a wuss not worth her or anyones time." And when he learns the cold truth about the other woman (looking like a complete ninnyhead when he hears it) he still doesn't flee to Elpeth's side... Even Elpeth character voices her anger over this.
And lastly what was the purpose of getting all these extra characters involved anyways. Who cares about adding the baby, the cat, or the extra kid. They have no point in the story.
This is a must read!.......2005-10-15
Hannah Howell is a great writer if you are looking for a wondful scottish romance novel you have found it!!
This is the frist book in a trilogy that captures the lives of the children of the Murray brothers. That trilogy starts with Highland Honor.
9 years old Elspeth Murry rescued a wounded knight by the name of Cormac Armstrong who was 17 years old and on the run. Elspeth lost her heart forever to him.
Now ten years later she will risks everthing to win the heart of the man who captures hers. They are reunited when Cormac saves her from an unwanted suitor who will stop at nothing to get her. Along the road a passionate desire grows between them, However Cormac is pledge to another and is torn by it beacuse he is a man of honor, but he has a growing need for Elspeth.
His duty is blinding him and he dose not see that he is a pawn in deadly trap set by the woman the he pledge hinself to when he was very young, Elspeth is desperate to save him, However by the time he understands the trap that was set for him and that he really dose love Elspeth she has left him so now he needs to try to win her back!!!
Once you pick up this book you will not be able to put it down you will love it for sure!!

The Architects of Stonehenge
They came to Earth thousands of years ago to usher in mankind's first New Age of scientific growth and spiritual enlightenment. Under the guidance of these ancient visitors from the heavens, human civilization flourished -- as revolutionary advances in art, science and thought swept through the inhabited world. And they left behind magnificent monuments -- baffling monoliths and awesome, towering structures that stand to this day as testaments to their greatness.
In this extraordinarily documented, meticulously researched work, Zecharia Sitchin draws remarkable correlations between the events that shape our civilization in millennia past -- pinpointing with astonishing accuracy the tumultuous beginning of time as we know it . . . and revealing to us the indisputable signature of extraterrestrial god indelibly written in stone.
Customer Reviews:
When Time Began.......2007-03-09
Anything written by Sitchin is highly endorsed by me as a must read.
When Time Began.......2007-01-12
A good book, but a little repetition. I have read all eight books of his Earth chronicles and they are all very mind boggling.
Sitchen and his love of the blind-folded observation.......2004-10-05
Sitchen's interpretation of Sumer mythology is just as bad as Lawrence Gardner's explanation of how the Egyptians built the pyramids. Sitchen's books are nothing more than fiction masquerading as actual events. Its hard for people such as Sitchen to believe that African people, both, inland, and abroad can build complex buildings and monuments. Sure, there is evidence of alien visits, but, you won't find it here. Sitchen belongs to a group of (...)individuals who syncretized different backgrounds of knowledge for the sake of exploit and profit. Nothing new here, just more recycled junk-sci-info.
Extremely interesting..........2003-03-29
Honestly speaking everything about life and it's origin is a theory. Sitchin has written a great book (I have read most of his) and the theory of time and origin of life on earth explained in this book is quiet remarkable and astonishing. If you are one of those who think 'where did we come from', 'was there a begining' or 'is there an end' then I'd recommened this book. However, a lot of maths has been used in this book which requires reading it over again at times. But in short, I love the book, it has made my understanding of origin more broader and I can think in multiple lines!
Another good book by sitchin.......2002-01-06
What can you say about Sitchin, he writes great books.Read this one too, it's great.

THANK GOD FOR THIS BOOK. IT IS SO NEEDFUL. WE HAVE LOST A GREAT DEGREE OF HONOR FOR THOSE GOD HAS SET OVER US. TERRY LET'S US SEE VERY CLEARLY WHAT GOD HONORS AND TEACHES US THE BENEFIT TO NOT ONLY OUR PASTOR, BUT TO THE CHURCH AND TO OURSELVES AND OUR FAMILIES. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST AND MOST TIMELY BOOKS I HAVE READ. THANK GOD FOR BROTHER NANCE. IT IS NO LONGER A ONE MAN SHOW BUT WITH THE VISION HE HAS SET IN ONE PERSON WE CAN BECOME A CHURCH, A FAMILY.
God's Armorbearer: Running With Your Pastor's Vision.......2006-05-21
