October 1789, and war clouds thunder over Europe when Richard Bolitho steers the Tempest into the perilous waters of the Great South Sea. To protect vulnerable English shipping lanes from her seagoing enemies, he must face the hazards of fickle winds, pirates, and savage islanders.

Adventures of the Tempest, 36-gun frigate.......2003-12-29
Richard Bolitho's new command is the Tempest, a 36-gun frigate, built in India of teak. a fifth class like his last command. But teak is a very heavy, dense wood; much heavier than the English oak usually used in the construction of ships of the Royal Navy, and therefor less maneuverable--but exceptionally strong.
The Tempest is picked up in the story entering the harbor at Sydney, the main port of the prison colony of Botany Bay (now known as Australia.)
The Commodore to whom he reports is an old friend with whom he served when they were both lieutenants. But another old acquaintance was also arriving soon from England: the government advisor, James Raymond and his wife Viola, with whom Bolitho had fallen in love on the last occasion of their company, five years previously.
The story continues through attacks by the pirate Mathias Tuke, broadsides, shore parties, a long sea episode in an open boat, hostile savages, and the loss of many good friends and crew members in battler and from fever, and the near loss of Bolito's own life.
This is a fine novel, as is typical of Alexander Kent, and the seventh in the Bolitho series. I have ordered the next three in the series, so taken by the stories am I.

South Seas plunder.......2002-01-13
A sequel to Command a King's Ship, Bolitho sails his Tempest farther east into the contested fringes of the British, Spanish and French empires. Capt. Bolitho is among the the islands in the Great South Sea, which is not so Pacific as it echoes to thunderous broadsides and murderous intrigue. Mutiny is in the air again. The state-sponsored (merchantile) economy of peacetime England is rotten, royalist France is in turmoil before its revolution, and the amazing Bligh has survived the mutiny on the Bounty. We see Polynesia in a more exciting time, when traders and free booters were only just entering islands of lovely but deadly natives amid the clash of unsettled national interests and claims. Bolitho has finally met his match in the form of an utterly ruthless and clever pirate who outwits Bolitho time and again, despite the desperate courage of his lieutenants. Kent has again come up with a wonderfully evil pirate to fight, even though we hardly meet him. Is Bolitho too besotted with his love for Viola, who has returned with her husband to develop an island colony? Unfortunately Kent makes Viola's husband so wholly irredeemable there's no tension there. Into this comes a French frigate under a tyrannical captain just as news of the outbreak of the French Revolution roils the tense waters and dubious loyalties further. The effects of tropical heat are graphically displayed, and the implacable scourge of fever finally makes its appearance in the series.
Mr Kent does it again, another wonderful Bolitho story.......2001-12-04
Mr Kent proves once more that he is a master story teller. This book is alive with characters who face a series of dangerous adventures in the service of their king. The story has everything: brigands, upturned cannon, splintered decks, heroic struggle against the odds, friendship, romance, some terrific dialog and character developement, hostile islanders, Royal Marines, some rather bloody battles and above it, Richard Bolitho stands true to his calling. The plot and sub plots are splendidly told and fill the pages with attention to detail, a rich feel for the time period and Allday backing his captain with his broad back and gleaming cutlass.
Great stuff to read on a rainy afternoon by a crackling fire.
What is great about the Kent books is the fact that as in real life, people arrive, influence, some move on and others die. Told with flair and a bold descriptive style makes Kent's books some of my very favorite.
Enjoy
the best book in the series.......2001-02-26
Passage to Mutiny was my first Bolitho adventure. I have read them all, but nothing captured my imagination quite as much as this one. Bolitho and his crew set out to find Eurotas, which was captured by pirates. The relationships between Bolitho and Herrick; and Bolitho and Viola; are vivid and bring out Bolitho's character to enhance the suspensful plot. The fight on the beach ending with Herrick having his back to the sea as a final desperate measure while Tempest's launch arrives just in time to save them kept me on the edge of my seat. I don't think I breathed for at least two chapters. It was one of the most satisfying reads I have ever had.
5 Pacific Paradises Plundered.......2000-10-24
Passage to Mutiny is the fourth Kent novel set outside of an actual war and the fourth that deals with pirates. In the past Richard Bolitho has ultimately enjoyed great success against pirates while Kent has had mixed success writing about it. This time Kent gets it right in a nail biting, blood and thunder epic. Perhaps Kent's Bolitho adventures reached their peak in the mid-70s and Passage to Mutiny is an example of the writer in top form.
Five years after Command a King's Ship Bolitho is off to Botany Bay. The spectre of two famous captains, Cook and Bligh, hangs over the voyage. Cook explored much of the region and was ultimately killed in the Pacific and Bligh has just lost his ship to mutiny. While he may have fears of mutiny, Kent's Bolitho has both the leadership abilities and humanity of Cook and the seafaring ability of Bligh. His crews will stand with him to the death.
Bolitho's paramour and nemesis from Command a King's Ship are both back to complete the story that Kent started in the earlier novel. While reading Command a King's Ship I was thinking that Bolitho should back off from having a relationship with a married woman no matter what her husband is like, Kent had me thinking that Bolitho should go for it and squeeze whatever happiness he could out of the opportunity that he had.
However, Passage to Mutiny is really about broadsides, thwarting pirates and a great sailing epic. The romance is just a little fluff along the way while manly men do manly things. The story is exciting and succeeds on that level. I did have a few problems with it though. Kent is not always clear on details such as how the wind is blowing, what direction the shore is and the way ports face. He really should include maps or provide additional details so that the reader can visualize what's happening accurately. One can't always figure out why Bolitho is so brilliant if one doesn't know which way the wind is blowing and which direction the ship is sailing.
Still and all I was wrapped up in this one and I look forward to the next Bolitho adventure.

Book Description
Lucinda Barrett's best friends ended up married to the men to whom they delivered their 'lessons in love'. So Lucinda decides to choose someone who definitely needs lessons, but someone who will not complicate her life. And that person is definitely not Robert Carroway.
Robert is nothing if not complicated, and though he is the brother of a viscount, he rarely goes about society, and finds the weather and hat fashions ludicrous subjects for discussion. Robert is attracted to Lucinda's unpretentious ways, her serenity and her kindness. When she chooses someone for her love lessons, Robert offers to help her deliver her lessons, but sets out to convince the woman he has fallen for to take a chance on love ... and on him.
Customer Reviews:
Loved this - it's an incredible story about real love!!!.......2007-07-27
That's exactly what this book is about, real love! Not only is it incredibly well-written, but it is very moving, Suzanne Enoch draws you into to the story, the characters, their pains and joys in a way few authors do.
The story is my favorite of the "Lessons in Love" trilogy. Robert "Bit" Carroway, is a wounded, aching ex-soldier, who has been struggling with his return to civilian life for several years. When his older brother marries, his new sister-in-law's friends visit her at the Carroway home. There he meets Lucinda Barrett and she becomes his saving grace, his means for healing and becoming whole again. When a traitor and thief steal important military papers and accuse Robert of the theft and treason, Lucinda, Robert, the Carroway clan join forces to clear Robert's name. In the process, Robert falls in love with Lucinda, although she has her heart set on another. Robert loves her madly, but knowing his condition adn that he is not completely healed from his military experiencs, he is willing to be content with just knowing "that one day she could possibly love him a little."
The story is quick, light-hearted in many parts, and a delightful read. One of the many reasons I love this book is because Enoch develops Robert's character so well, she puts you into his mind, and you feel his pain, his heartache, his joy, and you experience his steps toward healing. Lucinda is a delightful heroine, although you do get stressed at times with the fact that she refuses to acknolwedge that Robert means more to her than her "chosen student".
Trhough it all though, love conquers all and in the end all is made well. I highly recommend this novel it is one which I bought some time ago, and continue to revisit time and again. It is a definte keeper!!
First half- 4 stars.......2007-06-19
Robert "Bit" Carroway is a wounded soldier still suffering from being tortured by the French three years earlier. He's quiet and unsure of himself, often retreating to his room as soon as he feels panicked.
He secretly watched Lucinda, the friend of his sister-in-law, for years. He slowly started to make himself known to her and a chance encounter caused him to strike a deal with her. If she helped him with his rose garden, something he suggested having to distract himself, then he would help her with in her lessons to 'train' Lord Geoffrey Newcombe and eventually wed him. He only did it so he could spend more time with her, never expecting he would actually fall in love with her.
I must say that I rather liked Robert. His character was very unique from the typical bad arrogant attitudes that get very old very fast. A man can be a man without being so demanding and cocky. I was rooting for Robert and he quickly became one of my favorite heroes. Another unique aspect of this book, to me, was that Robert not only had a nice family (an increasing rarity) but a caring family. His brothers' concern for him touched me. I loved their relationship.
I felt as if the twist towards the end of the book took away from the story between Robert and Luce. The reader already knew everything would work out and it just felt like wasted pages. It was mentioned many times that characters were worried that Robert would have to be locked up in prison that I started to expect that would happen. It may sound sadistic, but I was disappointed that it didn't happen. It would have been a touching moment. When everything eventually worked out and Robert is cleared there's only a few pages left of the book and the reader already knew what was going to happen.
I think the reader also deserved to have known what exactly had happened to Robert while he was held captive. It was hinted and lightly touched on, with a few experiences thrown here and there, but there were no flashbacks or discussions about what *really* happened. I think the typical "let the reader decide" ploy is just an excuse for lazy writing.
His obvious insecurity with himself was what appealed to me the most, especially when Luce tried to remove his shirt and his discomfort with his limp.
All in all, the first half of the book is really good. The reader was exposed to an interesting character and was able to go through his ups and downs with him. The rest of the book is okay and predictable. I'm not really disappointed that I read it but I don't really have that satisfaction of finishing a really good book.
Always a delight.......2007-03-23
Ms. Enoch never disappoints. Whether writing stories about the present day or the past, this author has a flair for dialog and creates believable interesting characters. Also in her favor--she can write--unlike most romance authors. If you are a thinking woman with a college education who still enjoys the occasional fairy tale, and knows that most literary fiction is just a romance or mystery with pretensions, look no farther.
Not bad....but not great........2006-09-20
A well written book. However I have to agree with another reviewer and say I don't think Ms. Enoch is for me.
I loved Robert and ever so loving his family. Perfect characters in every way.
I found Lucinda to be very shallow. Looking for life to always be "simple"....
Couldn't stand the fact that Lucinda's other suitor was always in the middle of everything.
If like me you are looking for a passionate love story filled with sensuality, this is NOT it.
I love the way Robert grew throught out the story .......2006-09-16
England's Perfect Hero by Suzanne Enoch was the third book of the series. This story had more mystery and danger than the others. Three women decide to make a list of lessons that all men should learn to be good husbands.Lucinda decides that all her friends married the men from the 'lessons' so she picks a perfect man - but fate takes over. Robert Carroway is not her pick - he is a injured soldier who has lots of dark secrets. I loved this novel the characters are great. Check out all the series Lessons in Love: The Rake ,London's Perfect Scoundrel and England's Perfect Hero. If you enjoy this genre I would also check out The Lady Lies The Lady Killer and The Lady's Code by Samantha Saxon

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
I really didn't expect to like yet another New Titans at all, after the goodness of the Baxter stuff from earlier on, but this is actually not that bad at all. I wouldn't be running out to get them the second they come up, but as far as a general comic read, it is ok.
Titans together! Again...For the umpteenth time... .......2007-04-08
Let me say this: I loved the '80s New Teen Titans. Marv Wolfman and George Perez made that title one of the best and most popular comic books of all time and, in its heyday, I believe it placed consistently in the top 10 in monthly sales. When George Perez left the series, the Titans were never the same, and my interest reluctantly dwindled. I didn't think I could get so into this team again until I started collecting the revamped TEEN TITANS in 2003. Prolific comic book writer Geoff Johns (FLASH, JSA, GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH, 52, etc) and artist Mike McKone do wonders as they've managed to revive great interest in this team which, more than anything else, was about the close ties of family and friendship.
And it's still about the teens. With the tragic death of Donna Troy, aka Troia (formerly Wonder Girl), and the resulting disbanding of both the Teen Titans and Young Justice, our superhero youngsters have unhappily drifted apart. But, now, Cyborg extends an invitation for the kids to help re-launch the Teen Titans, whose Titans Tower is now situated in San Francisco. Feeling that their young charges are worryingly stuck in a rut, Superman and Batman urge their respective proteges Connor Kent (Superboy) and Tim Drake (Robin) to sign up. However, Flash is indifferent, believing that young Bart (Impulse) has no focus and is unreliable, while Wonder Woman is less than willing to grant her blessing and just simply doesn't want Cassie to be involved. It doesn't really come as a shocker, however, when everyone ends up joining.
I'm not about to credit Mr. Johns with successfully returning this title back to its once lofty place, because, frankly, he hasn't quite managed that. But what he's done is bring me and many more fans back into the Titans fold. With TEEN TITANS: A KID'S GAME, which collects the first seven issues, Johns has Cyborg creating a regimented and more purposeful team structure and mission statement. The plan now is that, on weekends, once the school week is thru, veteran heroes and former Titan members Cyborg, Starfire, and Beast Boy will mentor the ex-Young Justices.
In crafting these stories, the writer does very well in bringing life and depth to the characters. Connor and Cassie are actually becoming interesting, even if Connor is still occasionally annoying. Bart undergoes a traumatic life changing experience which makes him rethink his superhero identity. Tim Drake? Well, he's fast on his way to being just as great a Robin as Dick Grayson was. And, since these are mostly about the teens, there's plenty of angst, deep seated hostility, and pent up hormonal energy mixed in with the superhero action.
There's an off-kilter group dynamic here. None of the more established Titans is a born leader (that was always a Nightwing specialty). In their attempts at mentoring, they discover that these kids won't easily accept authority. Starfire, in particular, with her emotions ever on the surface, finds it tough going in presenting a supervisory persona. Beast Boy is barely older than the kids and is actually more in tune with the younger generation than with his older teammates. Honestly, Tim Drake seems to be the best leader in this group.
Johns deals several surprises to the reader. Perennial foil Deathstroke the Terminator returns for a lengthy story arc, with a surprise twist thrown in. With the death of his son Jericho, the lethal mercenary wants to put a stop to the re-forming of the Titans team, ostensibly because "kids shouldn't wear costumes." Meanwhile, as Connor develops a new power, he also discovers intel on his genetic makeup which shocks him. Plus, he gets a pet. Then, there's the requisite guest appearances by the kids' older counterparts and the ensuing half-hearted tussle. Somewhere in here, Nightwing and Raven also show up, as well as a retired member of Young Justice. With Mike McKone providing stellar artwork - as he draws these heroes in the way they should always be drawn - and with Geoff Johns consistently delivering with solid stories, TEEN TITANS: A KID'S GAME is the ideal time to hop back on the Titans bandwagon and will, guaranteed, whet your appetite for more. Titans Together! Again.
Good Price...Great Cast....Poor Comic.......2007-03-04
I've always loved the Teen Titans; from their early days with Hawk and Dove up to the Marv Wolfman/George Perez masterwork, I ate up TT comics. When I saw the great price on this book I had to buy it. Unfortunately I was disappointed.
The artwork is mediocre and the action is as convoluted as Yoda might be if he tried to imitate the Swedish Chef's speech patterns. There is a very weak story holding the comic together, with most of the comic detailing how the Teens want to be allowed to grow up without grown-up interference.
Overall, this comic was little more than OK. I can not recommend this to anyone.
Graet.......2006-11-11
I love everything about this new TEEN TITANS WORLD: characters, villains, costumes, situations, places...
Review of a Kid's Game...Very good!!!.......2006-09-06
For any fans of the Titans tv show on C.N., this story takes place when those Titans are a few years older and are helping form a new group of Teen Titans. This will not be much like the tv show but the artwork is beautiful and it's cool to see the Raven, Beast Boy, Starfire, Cyborg, and Robin characters as they were originally. It's very cool, all Titans and DC comics fans should check it out!

Highly recommend this study.......2007-06-18
It was quite eye opening and was inspiring to even the most stubborn people in my bible study. Gives a whole new perspective to our relationship with God which often becomes a chore and sometimes a burden if we don't see him accurately... Well written, a bit repetitive, and thorough.
Amazing.......2007-04-13
So much better than the book. I was confused after many of the chapters in the book, and the journal helped clear it up. Very glad I bought it- such a fan of John Eldredge, he had completely changed the way I view God.
Indispensable.......2004-10-13
I can't recommend this book highly enough. I read the original book, and loved it, but knew there was more that i was missing. The workbook asks detailed and sometimes confronting questions, and acts as an aide to hearing God. I found once i started asking God these questions, i had the insight i needed to break through so many of the walls i'd put to God, myself, and others. As a result, my relationships are healthier, and i am a less defensive person.
Couldn't relate.......2002-03-08
I found myself reaching to answer these questions, in the spirit of being cooperative....almost making mountains out of molehills as I viewed my life.
Sacred RomanceWorkbook review.......2001-11-06
This is one of the most spiritual liberating books that I've read so far. It helped me to recognise a lot of hidden truths in my life and the embark on the journey of liberation and enter into the bigger part that God created me to play in the drama of life.

An Oldie but a Goodie.......2007-08-13
This material has been out a long time -- since the 70's but it's still as relevant and as helpful as ever. In this workbook Dunnam lays out a theology of prayer, teaches several different prayer practices and lays out the groundwork for an ongoing small group. That's pretty good for a ten week course!
the door to a deeper prayer life.......2004-10-22
This is by far the best small group study resource I have ever read. It is not surprising that almost half a million copies were sold in its first 20 years. As the title suggests, this book helps bring prayer to life.
The book is divided into six weeks of daily individual studies, with an option of extending the study by another three weeks. Each week ends with a group meeting. Questions are provided within the book that encourage group members to share and assess the past week's adventure.
Each day contains a powerful lesson, time for "reflecting and recording", and an assignment to carry you through the day. This is not just a well-organized scripture study. It gets right to the heart of applying scripture and clearing away the obstacles that are keeping us from a deeper prayer life. Each lesson flows seamlessly into the next, providing a steady stream of learning and growth.
This resource will prove valuable for both the beginner and the seasoned 'prayer warrior'. Not only will it get you comfortable with prayer, it will get you downright excited about it. Want a deeper prayer life? Start here, and you won't be disappointed.
Larry Hehn, author of Get the Prize: Nine Keys for a Life of Victory
The #1 book for getting started in a serious prayer life........1999-03-19
This notebook has been in print for 20 years, and has sold almost 500,00 copies. It is the best book I've ever seen for getting started in a serious prayer life.
It is intended to be used in a small group setting for a six week study. It asks that you read only one page a day, and spend 25 minutes reading, making notes in the book and praying. If you don't take the time each day to do what it suggests, you will miss that growth that it promises.
I have used this workbook to lead small group studies at least four times. It has changed more lives than any other book I have ever used.

That little girl grew up to be a young woman who still felt she was always wrong, and always bad, which led to chronic, clinical depression. Customer Reviews:
Great group Bible study resource.......2007-04-03
We have used this workbook as a Lenten Bible study at my church this spring. There are about 20 people in the study and each person, at some point, has expressed how much s/he is learning and how much s/he enjoys the study. More than that, it has made all the participants more aware of the pervasive reality of sin in our lives, which has led to a greater desire for God's forgiveness and healing. The authors continually point to Jesus Christ and warn repeatedly about not doing things in our own strength or just "trying harder". They speak of the transformation that is only possible through surrender to the Holy Spirit. The study has convicted and inspired us on a personal level, but has also inspired great discussion of depth and insight.
I know of many other churches who have used this study (usually during Lent) and I have heard nothing but rave reviews. Frankly, I am shocked by a couple of the negative reviews here. This is a great tool for study and discussion. I would highly recommend doing this with a group. Again, I've only heard wonderful things from other pastors and church leaders who have actually used this resource in a church setting.
Surface skimmed here........2001-08-07
The authors express a lot of their opinions and personal points of view within this workbook, versus really convincing the reader about the true nature of sins. In reading through the different chapters, it is hard to find a complete separation in their writing between one deadly sin described and another - perhaps there isn't any, but perhaps that is where the discussion could lead. As a result it seems that the surface is skimmed repeatedly, but the real meat of the matter remains where it was before the workbook! As a workbook for discussion groups studying seven deadly sins, this workbook would probably create the same exact discussion for every session. Another result of the authors' bias would probably create a trail of condemnation versus a pathway for enlightenment concerning these sins. In conclusion, this work falls short of what it could have been.
I now know what the 7 capital sins are.......2001-07-07
Short workbook which covers the 7 capital sins. I gave 3 stars because the workbook seemed a bit short. I thought it should gone more in depth about the sins.
Very good and informative.......2001-02-26
I found this book to be easy to read. I, not being Christian found this book to be highly revolving around the Christian religion showing many Christian views. I think this book will be most effective if read in a group instead for personal use. Overall this book served my purposed sufficently and I think it was written quite well.

Book Description
The author doesn't profess to know God's Will for his readers, nor does he have an opinion on what it should be. What his workbook provides is a
unique, simple and natural PROCESS that will enable you to determine God's Will for your life with unprecedented ease and reliability. Your satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed or the author and publisher will promptly refund your purchase price and all shipping/handling costs.
God's Will is realistically defined as "God's top priorities for your life." The process followed is Christian-based, always practical and takes about 6-8 hours to complete. It has been widely used in Arizona since 1987 and been consistently refined over the course of two decades.
Those refinements have produced a methodology that's trustworthy and extremely effective. Among other things, it:
(a)searches for God's Will in the 4 ways it's most likely to be found;
(b)uses more than 20 different resources and capabilities that are inherent in human beings for determining God's Will (for details, click on the link below to "see all Editorial Reviews" and read the workbook's brief Introduction);
(c)includes a failsafe way of how to know for sure when God's Will has indeed been identified.
The profits from this book are used to help disabled children, homeless people and others who are dealing with severe hardships. Readers will appreciate its clear-cut and concise writing style as well as its bottom-line approach.
The workbook includes everything needed to know the specifics of God's Will for your life and to successfully incorporate those priorities into everyday activities.
