Book Description
New Orleans scrapbooking shop owner Carmela Bertrand delights her customers with the sophisticated looks she achieves with their scrapbooks. But among her client's keepsakes she finds a tip of her own-about a murder...
Customer Reviews:
slow start to a new cozy series.......2007-08-22
There were more references to the foods of New Orleans than to scrapbooking. And, the author spent more time on red herrings than the actual crime. However, the book was still a pleasure to read. The heroine's friends are very interesting and I look to spending more time with them in future books.
Slim Pickins, but I've Read Worse.......2006-10-01
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I feared it would be a little too "cutesy," especially with that awful cover. But I found Carmela, Childs' scrapbook store-owning protaganist, to have more of an edge to her than I expected.
Still, the mystery was a little light, as other reviewers have mentioned, and there were some extraneous occurrences and absolutely strange goings-on, including characters (like Carmela's ex) who pop in for no apparent reason and then disappear again. But overall, Childs is a smooth writer who can, apparently, make a book from the slimmest of plots.
Keepsake Crimes.......2006-08-29
I love reading theme books as well as mystery. I am a "new" scrapbooker so enjoyed her tips. This is a "light" read. I go to these books after I have read heavy classics or history books. I took it camping and was happy to escape into the world of murder, scrapbooking and New Orleans. Never having been there I don't know how historically accurate it is but this book made me want to visit New Orleans. I hope to try some of the recipes. Laura Child made them sound quite yummy. The depth of the characters are a little weak and somewhat inconsistant but it doesnt' necessarily detract from an entertaining story line.
Pleasant read.......2006-08-04
I enjoy the entire series. I do enjoy scrapbooking, which is a fairly new experience, but I am a long-time mystery buff. I enjoy the scrapbooking scenes, since they remind me of comfortable sessions I have scrapbooking with friends.
The mystery part is pretty good. I picked out the murderer, but only slightly before the reveal, so I enjoyed that area as well.
The author has an easy, comfortable style of writing. It is an easy read. I enjoy her characters. They are clear and very interesting in their own right. I hope many more of these books are going to be written.
scrapbooking mystery letdown.......2006-06-05
This book is more about New Orleans and Mardi Gra then a mystery or scrapbooking. It's very slow and hard to follow with a quick ending. It feels like the author didn't really have a good plot in mind or know how to work it up....it was a disappointing read for my first try of this author. Scrapbookers save your $$$ and mystery buffs....look elsewhere if you want a riveting mystery.

The legend continues!
New York Times bestselling author
Diana Palmer proves yet again why she is one of North America's most beloved romance writers, in this classic Long, Tall Texans volume.
Relive the spellbinding magic of
Harden, Evan and
Donavan when the spirited women who love these Men of the West lasso their elusive hearts.
Harden:
This rough-hewn rancher is a self-proclaimed woman hater . . . until a chance encounter with Miranda Warren changes everything!
Evan:
As a rule, this gentle giant steers clear of the ladies -- yet how long can his smoldering desire for a neighboring rancher's daughter be denied!
Donavan:
He's a tall, no-nonsense cowboy who wants nothing to do with rich debutantes. But he's not exactly immune to Faye York's Southern belle charms . . .

3 Short Stories.......2007-08-16
1. Harden
2. Evan
3. Donovan
- I did not like #1 and #2 and never finished #3
- Harden (supposedly hates women) finds a girl on a business trip to Chicago. She ends up quitting her job and going to LIVE WITH HIM.
-- She was SOOOOO "not smart"
-- Did they discuss anything before hand...no
-- Did he have a personality change once he got her on his turf....yes.
-- Was she a beanhead? You decide. (grin)
- Evan's story was gross for me. He hooks up with a 19 year old girl (again "not smart" either) and he's 40ish.
ACK! BOO AND HISS!
And...all three of these MEN had "momma" problems. What's with hating the mom in these books.
This was my second and last from this author.
men of the west by diana palmer........2007-08-15
I have alway like reading diana palmer books and i always can't wait for her new books coming out.mags
Typical Dianna Palmer, Great Book!!.......2007-07-23
This is a keeper!! If you like Dianna Palmer and the typical male "pig" attitude in most of her books you will love this. The story of Evan is the best and makes the book worth buying. Dianna Palmer is the best!
Three Decent Stories.......2007-04-08
Harden
The story of Harden was an o.k. story, but I felt it started too abruptly and unrealistically. It never really fleshed out Harden or the romance between the two main characters. Miranda said she was normally a strong and independent person, but that was never shown in the book. I prefer my heroines with a little spine, they don't have to be the strongest, but it's nice for them not to be so weak. Like I said before she was too naive, especially being married before, even if it wasn't an ideal marriage. Also talking to his mother about their relationship and the attraction was a little unrealistic too.
2.5/5
Evan
Having only read about Evan in the previous book, Harden, I was looking forward to reading his story. However in the beginning I was surprised at how cruel he was to Anna, I could understand it somewhat, but it was just a little too harsh to take sometimes. However it got better towards the middle of the story and I could get over that. I was a bit surprised that he was only 6'4, which I know isn't short, but I always imagined he was taller since he had such a hangup about his size, like around 6'7 or so. Some minor things bothered me some, like the way he woke her up from her coma, which was unbelievable, as well as her talking to her mother about sex so candidly. I never would have talken to my mother about those things so openly. =P Still the chemistry between the two was sizzling to say the least and I was left feeling that it was a good story with a good ending and I enjoyed it immensely even with the little flaws. It was nice to have a heroine with more spine in this story!
4/5
Donovan
This is a decent story, while I liked both of the characters well enough, it just wasn't great. It started off good, then started lagging, but towards the end it picked up more. I can't say much bad about it and I can't say anything too good about, just an average read that some may like more than others. Still there's some cute stuff nearer the end and it's a fine lil read. :)
3/5 stars
While I usually like Diana Palmer, I was a little disappointed in these stories. They seemed in some ways too unbelievable, even for romantic fiction. The heroines were for the most part too naive to be believed, even if the stories were written 14 years ago. One of the things that bothered me probably the most is the phrase "little one", how many time can you use it? Sometimes it's fine and fits into the story, but way overused, as it is in all three of these stories. Still I find it refreshing that Diana Palmer writes stories with morals, like waiting until marriage to have sex, etc. It was still an enjoyable read, and I recommend it only for if you want a little light reading or if you're a die-hard Diana Palmer fan.
Overall: 3.5 stars
What's to Love.......2006-08-29
I read one of Diana Palmer books in the past and didn't particularly care for the hero in the story. I figured I would give her another shot. All 3 of these stories along with the previous one read makes me realize that I can't abide her heroes. If your thing is dealing with extremely mean spirited men who are also whiny as well as bullies, then these stories are definitely for you. It's just disappointing to me that these big, strong, hot mean are such big babies. What a waste of testosterone.
Book Description
At long last, the New York Times bestselling series that launched the Star Wars saga into the next generation and into thrilling new territory reaches its spectacular finale. Side by side, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa Solo, their children, and their comrades in the Galactic Alliance rally for their last stand against the enemy that threatens not only the galaxy, but the Force itself.
The Galactic Alliance’s hard-won success in countering the Yuuzhan Vong onslaught has proven all too brief—and the tide has turned once more to the invaders’ advantage. Having overcome the sabotage strategies of the Jedi and their allies, the marauding aliens have pushed deeper into the galaxy and subjugated more worlds in their ruthless quest for domination. Coruscant has been remade into a Yuuzhan Vong stronghold. The remnants of the resistance are struggling to form a united front. Luke, Mara, and Jacen are missing in action. Clearly the stage is set for endgame.
Now, as Han and Leia receive the chilling news that hundreds of high-ranking Galactic Alliance prisoners face slaughter in a sacrifice to the enemy’s bloodthirsty gods, Luke and his team try desperately to convince the living world of Zonama Sekot to join the Jedi’s final campaign against the Yuuzhan Vong. Yet even as they speak, a lone space station is all that stands between Alliance headquarters on Mon Calamari . . . and wave after wave of ferocious enemy forces waging their most decisive assault.
At the same time, the Jedi’s alliances throughout the galaxy are being tested—and the chances of victory jeopardized—by rogue factions determined to deploy the lethal weapon that will exterminate the Yuuzhan Vong . . . and perhaps countless other species. And among the Yuuzhan Vong themselves, the threat of revolt has reached a boiling point—as the oppressed underclass and powerful officials alike fear their Supreme Overlord’s mad actions will provoke the wrath of the gods.
Ultimately, for both the forces of invasion and resistance, too much has been sacrificed —and too much is at stake—to ever turn back. And now, nothing can stand in the way of seizing victory . . . or facing annihilation.
Customer Reviews:
A Fitting End.......2006-05-31
The war with the Yuuzhan Vong is reaching its climax. Both sides are putting pressure on the other's "base world" and the jedi are spread out, some are even missing. The war is at its breaking point, the only question is who will crumble first.
This book does a wonderful job of building up the anticipation that has been growing since the fall of Coruscant and the death of Anakin Solo. The ending of this book was a massive surprise as we finally have some big questions answered for us. We find out why the Jedi cannot sense the Yuuzhan Vong and we find out who is really running the Yuuzhan Vong war machine. An outstanding end to an outstanding series!

Utter nonsense by a crank? Maybe not........2004-02-05
The second I saw this book, I knew it had to be nonsense, as it claims to do what tens of thousands of physicists have been unsuccesful in doing, unifying G and C. And it is self-published, has very little mathematical framework to support its claims.
But I bought it for a buck or two at the used book store, and read it, possibly just to feel superior to the author. (I study real physics, mathematically-consistent physics, and it is difficult for me, so I guess I had the need to feel superior to someone, anyone.)
But by the end of the book, something started to bug me about his claims, as crazy as they were, they did have a kernel of logic to them. And on the last few pages, he gives credit to the work of physicists that came before him, not the standard "all physicists are liar, plagarists and dead-wrong" kind of thing that is typical of the standard crackpot.
I put the book on my shelf, and forgot about it for a few years. Suddenly, today, I came across the 1998 results of the Supernova Cosmology Project and the High-Z Supernova Search. It claims that the universe is accelerating, and Science magazine declared it the breakthrough of the year.
As soon as I read this, Kenneth Salem's book pops into my head, because he made the same claim, ALMOST TEN YEARS EARLIER!
So am I going to keep my copy of this book? Yes I am. And now that increasing information is coming out in support of Einstein's cosmological constant, Kenneth Salem's book becomes ever more interesting. If you can find this book, buy it, tuck it away and marvel at the forgotten words of this "crackpot."
Just the facts.......2000-09-06
I had previously read this book in my senior high school year and it greatly increased my intrest in physics and helped my bring my grade up to a C+ by the end of the year. I'm not a physist but the corilations made in this book will make you think about the way the univers is actually put together and how it is perceived. Kenneth likes to fill the pages with numbers, but if you like to crunch them it can be fun. This is a book for the more serious reader and be perpared you will not find more books by this aurthor and its real hard to find books that don't use the word quantum.
Customer Reviews:
I thought he was a crackpot, but maybe not........2004-04-29
This book has all the makings of a crackpot work ... assertions without mathematics to back them up, philosophy masquerading as science. I like to look at these "crank" works because I do real physics, mathematically-consistent kind of stuff.
But Salem is not your standard Crank. He seems to have stumbled on truth with this book and his other one, 9.8 Angstroms. Specifically, he derives a universal constant of acceleration.
"So what," the real-physicist says, "he's not a real physicist!" And he may not be, but he did come up with a universal constant about ten years before the rest of the mainstream physics community did. In 1999, the discovery of this acceleration was hailed as the greatest scientific discovery of the year. (See my review of Salem's other work, 9.8 Angstroms for specifics.)
Today, "Real" Theoretical Physicists struggle to nail down a cosmological constant. And every time I hear some news of the progress of their struggle, I remember Kenneth Salem, the "crank", the "crackpot", the "fake" physicist, who was there before most of them.
Real scientists do not call other scientists names. They endeavor to keep an open mind.
Complete nonsense, the work of an ill-informed crank.......1999-01-25
This book came free in the mail to many high school physics teachers several years ago; I have just begun to read it. Kenneth Salem's book is a classic example of too little knowledge is dangerous, the book tries to bridge phsyics and philosophy when it is so obvious that Mr. Salem has not appearantly had any training in either one. (The biography is so boastfull that you would think he would list his credentials). The book is riddled with arguements so ridiculus and disproved daily in chemistry, physics and in common electronic devices (ect.) at the reader would have to assume the Mr. Salem is a CRANK. Please take some advice from a real Physics don't buy books like this. I you want to learn physics go to an acredited college and start taking classes.

Dr. Marek Doesn't Have a Clue!.......2001-08-30
I was one of the many individuals that had to go through his drug rehabilitation program at the Dublin Federal Prison Camp in Dublin, California. It was a very disappointing experience. He told me that I was "pretentious" and made me re-write my goal list because he thought my goals were "too high." I've never in my life met anyone who didn't embrace big thinkers, entrepreneurs, or people who wanted to become more than the "norm" of life. And I told Dr. Marek, "What if someone like you told Bill Gates the very same things you're telling me before he made it big?" Dr. Marek talks a good game but can't walk the walk. And he's the most arrogant, big-headed person I've ever met. My advise, pass on this book and save yourself from his psychological clap-trap. He can't teach others how to change their lives when his own life is a total mess. After all, anyone who believes that you should make your life's goals and dreams SMALLER, is someone you wouldn't want to listen to anyway, is it?

This man melts my heart.......2007-06-20
I just read over all the Amazon reviews I have written. I see that I write them right after I read the book, and usually to rave about it. However, as helpful as those books have been, they did not stick with me. - I see that I have written about how helpful it is, and yet now I can't remember why. So I am writing a review right now about a book that I read over 5 years ago, and have read parts of many times since, because it is one of the few that sticks. I remember WHY it is helpful and how it CONTINUES to be helpful.
Thank this wonderful, precious, amazing man for giving us a TOOL that is better than any other I've ever encountered. Self-inquiry, vichara, is it. I can't say anymore but if I had only one Advaita teacher's teachings to bring with me to a desert island, Ramana Maharshi is the one, and I'm not just saying that because I'm elated from a good read.
A must read for everyone on the spiritual path.......2007-05-09
One of the great challenges in understanding the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and numerous other spiritual authors is that their teachings are passed on, for the most part, by books that record their conversations in question and answer format. That is, their answers to questions put to them by individual seekers. What most are unaware, is that the answers provided by spiritual teachers are different for different seekers to accomodate their level of development and differing interests. That is why some of the answers 'appear' contradictory. This can cause difficulty in adopting a spiritual practice strictly from reading a book, as we do not know which teachniques best fit us and may get confusted on the essence of their teaching. Well, after 12 years of study and practice of the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and numerous other authors I recently 'happened' upon this wonderful puplication. The editor did a wonderful job of organizing the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi into chapters covering the essence of his different teachings that he tailored for each different type of seeker. He also provides an introduction to summarize the essence of his teachings. This book brought an amazing clarity to Sri Ramana's teachings as well as an improved understanding of all spiritual paths and practices. This book is a must read for anyone on the path of Sri Ramana Maharshi as well as for anyone on any other spiritual path as it covers the essence of all spiritual paths (e.g., surrender and self-enquiry). Enjoy.
The best book on/by Ramana.......2007-03-04
Be as you are gets to the point. It really fills in the gaps of misunderstandings and doubts that the inquisitive mind may have upon contemplating his teaching. Deeper angles, slightly turns delivering his message, have helped me gain a deeper understanding of his teaching. Trully highly recommended reading!
I THINK therefore I AM NOT !.......2006-11-14
This is very good book for people who are seeking spiritual answers.
It might not answer all your questions but it worth a try to read this book.
The teachings are very good. They have a different spiritual concepts.
The author must have took years to research Sri Ramana's teachings
He explains the conflict of the teachings and the reasons behind it.
But always remember Sri Ramana Maharshi main teaching is silence.
You have to read it and enjoy the teachings. It might help you to BECOME AS YOU ARE.
this is the one.......2006-05-27
of all the books written by and about Ramana, this is probably the very best. I have read all of them that I could get my hands on, and keep coming back to this one.
