...Bolitho's troubles persist.......2002-06-24
By now we've heard almost all the sail commands and maneuvers possible, and Kent seems to have run out of new sea lore. This is another book in which Bolitho's passionate interest in his married lover Catherine takes pride of place to sea action. Kent is spinning his wheels in these later stories, or better said: "he's all aback, an' that's no error." Now that Richard Bolitho has been an admiral for a while, he's become more involved with grand strategy than small ship actions, and Kent is harder pressed to make him an exciting figure. This is probably true to life but makes for a tedious tale. Symptomatic of the problem is the fact the publisher devotes most of the cover blurb to the author's credentials to write such a book, and only two sentences to the story. The "Reefs" of the title are more metaphorical than geographic: the estrangement of Bolitho and his favorite officer, Herrick; Herrick's court-martial; Bolitho's cruel sister; Herrick's betrayal; and Bolitho's continuing estrangement from power and reward due to envy and his illicit affair. Despite his youthful appearance, a lifetime's violent assaults and horrific losses are grinding Bolitho down. Kent's mistake may have been to start Bolitho too early in his career and promote him too rapidly, arriving at flag rank too long before the convenient end of the Napoleonic world wars. Kent seems to be grooming Admiral Bolitho's nephew, frigate Capt. Adam Bolitho, for better and more cheerful stories in the future.
This is a great series of books.......2000-10-06
This book may not have the major fleet engagements sprinkled through it as most Alexander Kent books do, but it is not lacking in action, character development and page turnability (that feeling when you just have to read the next section to find out what's going to happen next). I first fell in love with this series of books when I was 12, and I'm most of the way through a complete read of the series in many years. These books are as fresh and enjoyable to read as the first time I picked up Sloop of War. I highly recommend this entire series to anyone who is interested in the days of fighting sails and sailors.
If you read one Kent book, This ISN'T it!.......1999-07-13
I love the Bolitho series and have reread them all several times, Kent has not proved able to handle the transition from officer/captain to flag rank. Too dark, not enough action, what happen to the brillance of "To Glory We Steer" and others of the earlier books.
Dismal and brooding, dark and depressing.......1999-07-02
In this book, Kent's hero Bolitho broods about marital difficulties and best friendships gone bad for most of the novel. There is only one major sea battle, and that starts at page 296 of a 310 page novel! Bolitho, his best friend, his nephew, his coxswain, his servant and his flag captain are all undergoing problems related to marriage simultaneously. I was left wondering if Kent has some recent disaster in his personal life and wrote this dark and depressing book as a therapy session. I rate this book as the worst I've read in years, the worst Kent book I've read (out of about ten), and a definite do not read.
Too much love and hero-worshipping.......1998-09-18
Not by far as exciting as the earlier books in the Bolitho series. The delicate balance between personal affaires of our main character on the one end and the tremendously detailed action scenes on the other is lost. There are far too many sentimental bits and too much hero-worshipping stuff in this book. Kent is a bit off course in my opinion.
Book Description
This case study examines emigrants from Namoluk Atoll in the Eastern Caroline Islands of Micronesia, in the Western Pacific. Most members of the Namoluk community (chon Namoluk) do not currently live there - some 60% of them have moved to Chuuk, Guam, or the mainland US (such as Honolulu, Hawai'i or Eureka, California). The question is how (and why) those expatriates continue to think of themselves as chon Namoluk, and behave accordingly, despite being a far-flung network of people, with inevitable erosions of shared language and culture.

Beyond The Reef.......2001-01-03
Chris and his parents moved to Key West. Chris and his father became treasure divers. Chris' Mother was tired of living in Key West so she went back to Flintville where they used to live. She left because she was around at home all day while Chris and his Dad were out looking for treasure. They lived there for 5- years life was very hard for them. But they found some exciting treasure while living in Key West. They found a 17th century anchor and gold and silver coins from a Spanish galleon called the Sevillia. So that forced them to go to Seville, Spain. There they found some more information about the Sevillia in Legajos. Then they came back to Key West and told everyone about the Sevillia. Do I or do I not agree with the author? Well I would say yes I agree with him. Because I like the way he writes his stories. Mr. Strasser makes you feel like you are in the story. It sounds so true. Because when people go look for treasure they sell it rght away. Some people give but they waited for weeks but they still got thier treasure. If I found something special underwater then I would keep it somewhere safe. Would I or would I not recommend this book, and who would I recommend it to? Yes, I would recommend it to people who like underwater adventure.

Sizzling, sexy Hunter Magick.......2006-02-27
Byron & Kit:
Byron has known Kit since she was a small child, when he made a promise to take care of her as his own when her father died. Now she's grown up, and one of the strongest women he's ever known, standing by his side and helping him run his territory. She's also convinced they belong together. Of course Byron is stubborn. He thinks of his promise to Kit's father and refuses to get near her, even threatens to send her away. But if Byron sends her away, Kit is not coming back.....
Jonathan & Lori:
Jonathan has wanted Lori for the last seven years, since he first saw her. But he believes she's way too innocent for someone who's seen what he's seen, done what he's done. Yet Lori loves him, has been in love with him for as long as she's known him, and his rejection of her hurts. Lori is a witch, but unlike her sister, Sarel, she is a Healer, not a Warrior. Only she can't seem to heal what's in Jonathan's heart. Now Jonathan is marked by an old evil that wants to destroy them all. Someone has taken someone precious away from Jonathan, who must make a choice. He's never really seen Lori for what she is, has always denied his need for a mate, but now he begins to realize just how special she is, and how much she means to him. And when Lori makes the ultimate sacrifice, proving just how powerful she actually is, he'll finally understand how much he means to her....
Byron's & Kit's story is a short but sweet taste of the Hunters, one that was very enjoyable. Jonathan's and Lori's journey is more bittersweet, filled with complex layers and emotions. We are given deeper glimpses into the personalities of many characters, and hints of what is to come in future stories. You'll find yourself moved to tears of sadness as well as happiness by the fate of these courageous and loyal beings. Being a Hunter is not always a happy life - it's hard and violent and bloody, but there's hope and love and honor to sustain them. Each story will leave you wanting more. Shiloh Walker has created a unique and intriguing world of magick, sensuality, and blood that is fierce and binding. Her writing keeps getting better and better, with added dimensions that keep you guessing as to what she'll think up next. Enjoy the ride.
hot hot hot!!.......2005-08-15
If you love to read vampire erotica this series is a must. I like the way the author tells the story of the vampire and his mate. I am a reader of erotica and this book is a good read. I hope that she continues this story line. I will be the first in line to buy the next book she writes in this series and the bonus is you get two books in one binder.

No Fear.......2006-11-05
Another great installment for the Black Templars. The Orks are back and now an intrigue plot involving the Imperial Guard.
Read the first novel in the series first though, there are flashbacks but you'll be lost.
Does not live up to the quality of his first book.......2006-04-07
The development of the characters and the battle of Armageddon were so good in Green's first book. Then in the second book Green brings back several of his old characters and utterly fails to breath the same life and honor into them. If you absolutely must read the book, be aware that as decent as it starts it simply goes downhill every chapter until an utterly pointless ending.
Not so much of a sequel, more of a rewrite.......2006-02-25
I tried to like this book I really did. But the more that I read the more I had to keep on checking that I was not reading "Crusade for Armageddon" by mistake. And not to give away the ending I think there are going to be few people who like the way the book ends. Lets hope that Mr Green improves for the next on in the series.
A Really Good Read- 4.5 Stars.......2006-01-18
The second book about the Black Templars picks up right where the first one left off. Brant and the battle brothers of the Solumnus Crusade are the most zealous and unforgiving Marines the Black Library has written about, but unlike most books about Space Marines, the Black Templars are all strong, well rounded characters. It is an enjoyable experience to read about the motivations and drives of Space Marines, instead of the stories that present them as nothing but a bunch of paper cutouts that have been given a life, but no personality. For those of you who wonder what makes the Black Templars so unique amongst all the Chapters, you need to enter this book realizing that this Chapter is the least forgiving of the Space Marines. If there ever was a band of battle brothers who would be presented as two-dimensional, it is the Black Templars. The Black Templars do not use librarians, and they even regard their tech-priests with some distrust. Jonathan Green is one of the few writers capable of actually bringing this Chapter to life and actually making it fun to read. He has done a wonderful job in this series so far, but this book does not wrap up as nicely as it should, so I cannot give it a full 5 star rating. Still, it is a fantastic book, and I highly reccomend it to my fellow readers who enjoy a good Space Marine story.

Meditation: A Simple Eight-Point Program for Translating Spiritual Ideals into Daily Life.......2007-08-03
This book is such an incredible read, and quietly motivating too.
New to meditation - this is a wonderful introduction and practice guide, one that you can explain to you friends (and they will get it, perhaps even be motivated).
Experienced - this is an amazing gift, explained so well, and to so many audiences. It will also expose you to the art and power of "passage meditation" the process of internalizing the capsules of wisdom - that we call - civilization. This is how we grow, since we are born with almost no knowledge, and there is only so much we can learn in the first 20 years. :)
Happy growing (through meditation).
Meditate on Scripture.......2007-03-09
I love this book and the writing style. It begins with a short intro of meditation and then goes in depth on his way of meditating on beautifuf or sacred writings. Really helped me in learning another way to meditate. Easwaran writes with much love.
Meditation.......2007-01-19
Easwaran has a wonderful, simplistic way about him and presents things in a spiritual way that would not offend any religion.
Great book.......2006-10-27
This practical and unique book is has offered me very powerful tools that in my personal experience can shape one's life. Without spending too many words on it, I think you should just try it for yourself!
A Meditation on Meditation.......2006-10-23
After my "born again" atheist phase, I was intent on discovering/uncovering God for myself. I read all sorts of books (see my other reviews for some of what I have read)and all of these books satisfied my intellectual curiosity for a more "personable" God. I wasn't interested in a new religion, I was interested in knowing that a God of Love could love me, as well.
I decided to start meditating for two reasons. (1) I always admired people who could somehow get still, centered, and focused and brought a clear sense of attention/intention to everything they did and (2)maybe through meditation I could form a deeper inner "knowingness" that God did exist within me and around me.
This was one of the first books on meditation that I not only read, but devoured. I enjoy Eknath Eswaran's simple approach to meditation. If you are looking for a more complicated approach I am sure you will find many books that will fit the bill. Simplicity is an art. Simplicity is very difficult for a confused mind to understand. Simplicity is the essence of genius.
So I studied Eswaran's words on meditation, but I also took them to heart. When I was first learning to meditate, I often broke my practice into "bite-sized chunks". Three minutes here, five minutes there, another two minutes here, maybe four minutes there. I celebrated every moment I could get still. I relished in every moment I could get quiet. I wish I could say that I mastered meditation in six short weeks but I don't think anyone ever quites "masters" meditation. It does have an accumulative effect and eventually I was able to get still for twenty minutes (with my longest session being two hours) but meditation is so unlike anything I have ever done. You can't just put a meditation practice into a "box" and say this is meditation because meditation is the art of just allowing things to be and when we let things be without trying to change them, for better or for worse, then we are allowing and when I finally allowed myself to "let" God be God, God "showed up" in my life.
Not that God wasn't always present within me and around me, but somewhere along the way, through the help of these practices, I pierced the veil between the seen and the unseen and in a split-second, I came to know and feel that God was really real. Most of us would try and cling to that feeling...I did...but I also knew enough to let it go...to let it go...to let it go...that the more I just made room in my heart, the more I allowed God to be God, the more I jus allowed my mind, heart, and soul to become aligned with each other and act as one, the deeper I went with my practice.
I believe that every one of us can "learn" to meditate. I believe each of us already know how, but we have forgotten. When we were tiny little infants we knew how to still our minds, and have our hearts be wide open, and be vulnerable enough, innocent enough, and beautiful enough to let ourselves be exactly who we needed to be. We had nothing to prove. And then we "built" a shell of identity around our true beauty. We began to worship the outside world and we gradually became fixated on those things external to our own being. Meditation is not about learning to be, each one of us really know how to be who we are, meditation is primarily about unlearning all those things that we thought we were and just allowing ourselves to be who we really are; Pure Spirit...
This is a beautiful book and I am sorry for being so long winded, I guess I just got caught up in the moment, because to me, writing is a meditation and I guess I was just going with the flow...
Peace and Blessings...
