Book Description
Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is packing a whole lot of attitude -- not to mention stun guns, defense sprays, and a .38 Smith & Wesson. She's on the trail of Kenny Mancuso, from working-class Trenton, New Jersey, who has just shot his best friend. Fresh out of the army and suspiciously wealthy, Mancuso's also distantly related to Joe Morelli, a vice cop with questionable ethics, a libido in permanent overdrive, and a habit of horning in on Stephanie's investigations. Aided by her tough bounty-hunting pal, Ranger, and her funeral-hopping Grandma Mazur, Stephanie's soon staggering knee-deep in corpses, trying to shake Morelli...and stirring up a very nasty enemy.

Stephanie is after a new bail jumper, Kenny Mancuso, a boy from Trenton's burg. He's fresh out of the army, suspiciously wealthy, and he's just shot his best friend. With her bounty hunter pal Ranger stepping in occasionally to advise her, Stephanie staggers knee-deep in corpses and caskets as she traipses through back streets, dark alleys, and funeral parlors. And nobody knows funeral parlors better than Stephanie's irrepressible Grandma Mazur, a lady whose favorite pastime is grabbing a front-row seat at a neighborhood wake. So Stephanie uses Grandma as a cover to follow leads, but loses control when Grandma warms to the action, packing a cool pistol. Much to the family's chagrin, Stephanie and Granny may soon have the elusive Kenny in their sights. Low on expertise but learning fast, high on resilience, and despite the help she gets from friends and relatives, Stephanie eventually must face the danger alone when embalmed body parts begin to arrive on her doorstep and she's targeted for a nasty death by the most loathsome adversary she's ever encountered. Another case like this and she'll be a real pro.
Customer Reviews:
Good read!.......2007-10-09
This was a good, fast read...I have to say that I think the 1st series book was a little better than this book. But I definitely think it was worth the buy though. There are funny parts all throughout the book, which made it an enjoyable read. They focused on certain things a little too much, but then again it is somewhat of a crime book, so it was ok I guess. Only bad about this book, is that some parts are a bit boring. But curiosity will keep you wanting to read more.
Stephannie Plum mysteries should be in the romance section.......2007-09-28
This mystery like the other 12 in the series of the bumbling New Jersey Bounty Hunter and her assorted friends, relativies and FTAs, should be read when one need a series of good laughs. These fast paced books are romance novels on steriods or testosterone, as the case may be. She is James Bond in reverse, she doesn't do much right and every thing she owns is spattered with some kind of gore or her current car blows up in between her failure to decide which of the two main macho men she wants a current orgasmism. All the mysteries finally come to satisfactory conclusion after she survives yet one more horrifying disaster of her own making. Her grandmother is like Sophia on GOLDEN GIRLS while Stephannie is like the NANNY. What's not to like?
amazon review.......2007-07-29
Book was great but overseas postage is very expensive and takes ages to arrive still
3 Stars For Book 2.......2007-07-26
I surprisingly liked the first Stephanie Plum book, One for the Money, about a New Jersey thirty-something turned bounty hunter who is dealing with a flirty cop/childhood menace Joe Morelli, a crazy traditional family, and a bucket full of weird bail bond cases. Anyway this led me to pick up the second book and I was appalled by how awful a lot of the writing was! That being said, I'm still a fan of the series - they are fast-paced and interesting, just the kind of junk novel that passes by in a few hours.
I think the reason why I didn't like this book quite as much as the first was well for one, you have a better idea of what'll happen and when...the first book I'm like "bounty hunter eh?" and had no idea what was happening. This one I had a better idea of how to pick up clues and so on, but even then the story was kind of broken up and jarring, and there was a ridiculous amount of grossness in this book given a big portion of it revolved around a funeral home. Plus I've never been a big fan of Stephanie's madcap Grandma Mazur, but she is one of your faves you'll probably enjoy this as she is the main co-star for Stephanie this time around.
Overall the story was pretty interesting, the relationship between Morelli and Stephanie was very well written, and the ending was exciting. All the good makings of a fluffy read for summer days!
Fast and Funny.......2007-05-31
Stephanie Plum is a new bounty hunter who has been hired to capture Kenny Mancuso. Joe Morelli, a Trenton cop, is Mancuso's cousin and is trying to break a national arms case.
The duo work together to not only capture Mancuso, but also sort out the details of his latest murder - that of his best friend. Another friend, Spiro Stiva, a mortician, is having a string of bad luck (someone's been sneaking into the funeral parlor and chopping bits off of the dead bodies) as well. Spiro hires Stephanie to be his bodyguard, but not before she begins to suspect that he knows more about Kenny than he's letting on.
Together, Stephanie and Joe run from one scene to another in Janet Evanovich's "Two for the Dough", a hilarious novel about trying to capture the bad guys - and the trouble it takes to do so. Featuring Stephanie's Grandma Mazur, who likes to go to funeral viewings, her hamster Rex, and her partner Ranger, this second installment in the Stephanie Plum series is a fast read that will have you both intrigued and laughing through the final page.

Book Description
Three Complete Novels, One for the Money, Two for the Dough, and Three to Get Deadly, from the New York Times#1 Bestselling Author, Janet Evanovich!
Here's where it all began -- the three novels that first brought us Stephanie Plum, that bounty hunter with attitude who stepped out of Trenton's blue-collar "burg" and into the heart of America.
One for the Money: Stephanie's all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad and doing her best to sever the world's longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case. Out of work and out of money, Stephanie blackmails her bail-bondsman cousin Vinnie into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, el-primo bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook. Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli's the inamorato who charmed Stephanie out of her virginity at age sixteen. There's still powerful chemistry between them, so the chase is interesting.
Two for the Dough: Stephanie takes to the mean streets of Trenton, armed with attitude (not to mention stun guns and defense sprays), to find Kenny Mancuso, who recently shot his best friend and is on the run. Aided by the enigmatic Ranger, who knows a thing or two about bounty hunting, and by her irrepressible Grandma Mazur, Stephanie forms a shaky alliance with her favorite cop, Joe Morelli, for a tumultuous chase through back alleys and Grandma's favorite funeral parlors.
Three to Get Deadly: Stephanie is having a bad hair day -- for the whole month of January. She's looking for Mo Bedemier, Trenton's most beloved citizen, who was charged with carrying concealed and skipped bail. To help her, she's got Lula, a former hooker turned file clerk. Big, blonde, and black, Lula's itching to lock up a crook in the trunk of her car. And Morelli, the cop with the slow-burning smile, is acting polite even after Stephanie finds more bodies than the Trenton PD has seen in years. That's a bad sign for sure.
Funny and fabulous, Janet Evanovich is at her sparkling best in these three novels that launched a bestselling phenomenon.
Download Description
Published to coincide with the release of Janet Evanovich's new Stephanie Plum mystery, Three Plums in One offers readers the trio of novels that launched the bestselling, award-winning Stephanie Plum phenomenon -- in a single, unabridged, hardbound edition. Introducing the madcap humor, colorful characters, and local flavor that have become Janet Evanovich's trademark, Three Plums in One invites readers to discover Stephanie Plum, America's favorite bounty hunter with attitude, at the beginning of her almost accidental career as an "apprehension agent". In One for the Money, an out-of-work and out-of-money Stephanie blackmails her bondsman cousin into giving her a job tracking down bail jumpers. Knowing nothing of the trade, she tags along with a veteran bounty hunter, Ranger, learning the ropes as they go in search of a cop on the run from a murder one charge -- a cop who happens to be Stephanie's first love. Two for the Dough and Three to Get Deadly find Stephanie back on the mean streets of Trenton, New Jersey, in hot pursuit of her bounty, each time a little more savvy, a little bit tougher, and as outrageously funny as ever. Die-hard fans and first time readers alike will delight in discovering Janet Evanovich at her sparkling, suspenseful best in the three Plums that started it all.
Customer Reviews:
Great Read!.......2007-08-16
The Stephanie Plum series is so great. I have read a few of her books that are outside the series but to finally get all the background is great! You will really fall in love with Stephanie Plum and all her antics.
Stephanie Rocks!.......2007-07-21
Fast & Easy Read! Great for airplanes, but be prepared for some funny looks when you are laughing out loud. Grandma Mazur and Lula seem to find trouble wherever they go. (Although Stephanie is not really a very good bounty hunter!) :)
Very funny series.......2007-07-01
A friend recommended this series to me; at first, I was skeptical, because I always think that mysteries are always the same. However, Stephanie Plum is completely different from the other detectives I've seen in mysteries. She's a Trenton bounty hunter with a slightly senile gun-wielding grandmother, a smoldering sexual tension with cop Joe Morelli, and a fondness for Pino's pizza. There's also Lula, a 230-pound ex-hooker-turned-file-clerk, who sometimes helps Stephanie on her cases. These three books, the first in the series, are hysterically funny; I can't wait to read more! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to get a jump start on the Stephanie Plum series. I know that my next stop will be the bookstore for More Plums In One, the collection of novels four, five, and six.
gripping suspense full of comedy.......2007-05-09
This book is so funny.... it keeps you reading to find out what other mess Stephanie is going to put her self in. I started the series by reading book 12, when I finished that one I ordered books 1 - 4. I just have to get the entire series.
Get Acquainted with Stephanie.......2007-03-09
Great way to meet Stephanie Plum. This is a quick way to get going. Stephanie is not stereotypical in any sense. She's down to earth, smart, resourceful and has a long memory. If you've always wanted to do something out of the ordinary, do it vicariously through Stephanie Plum. You won't be disappointed.

So, Ahnadahan had quickly reported his sighting to Kateb, the berry finder, who reported to Favbe, leader of the Blackbirds. Favbe wanted Gerry's gold key. He thought it would give him power over all the other birds of Mydreama. In Book Two, Cookie Dough Camp, Gerry continues his journey and finally reaches the camp. On the way, he is nearly run over by some spotted Clothkaroos and is followed by a couple of curious Magpies. Inside the camp, Gerry hears the story of how the Clothkids were created. He is also surprised by the sudden appearance of his classmate, Shane. He meets Jesse and James, the raccoon brothers that steal sugar cubes and his map! The boys tour the brick ovens where the Cookies are made and they pledge to become Canvas Map Explorers! Meanwhile, back at Blackbird Springs, Favbe orders his spies to find Gerry and get his gold key, at any cost!

Book Description
Look into the abyss--
For as long as Cally O'Neal could remember, she had lived in danger. While her father was off fighting the invading Posleen, she had been raised by her grandfather, practically on the front lines of a war that had erased five billion humans from the face of the earth.
The abyss looks back--
In the final stages of the war, she had officially "died" and been recruited into the elite ranks of the Bane Sidhe, a group of underground warriors dedicated to breaking the stranglehold of the elf-like Darhel. A stranglehold the Darhel held on the Galactic Confederation before the war and now were extending to their human "allies."
And you become the abyss--
For forty years she has led a life of unremittent, unrecognized, unhallowed slaughter, wearing a constant stream of disguises, sending humans who support the Darhel off to meet their Maker, with her body, mind, and soul twisted and "improved" to serve the needs of her own "allies."
Now, on the most important mission of her career, at odds with her superiors, hunting a mole that could destroy her at any moment, and inexorably falling in love with the enemy, for the first time in her life she has to wonder if it's worth it. If being a dragon is the best way to fight the dragon. And if there will be a morning after for the little girl who liked to play with guns and swim with the dolphins.
Cally had been fighting for the future of the human race, but now she is in a war for survival: the survival of her soul.

An un-wanted and un-needed novel.......2007-08-29
you may think you need to read book 5 of the Posleen series to see how the horrible alien invaders are defeated and humans rise from the ashes. But you won't find out in this book. The posleen are defeated, dead, gone, defunct, destroyed and absent. Which makes this book about a sex mad assasin fairly pointless. You don't learn anything about plots being developed in previous books. Just some ho-hum sex and nail polish. One posleen is killed during the novel, plenty of humans (by humans). Why? Dunno, who cares? Not me, I'll give mine to the local library so as few people as possible need to waste money on this explotation rip off book.
A Great "Sideplot" to the Posleen War Series.......2007-07-20
I've now read 5 in the Posleen War series, and enjoyed them all. Interestingly enough, this is the first book in the series that I read; since then I've picked up books 1-4, and have book 6 (The Hero) on order. I'm a space-opera, blood and gore fan, so books 1-4 (A Hymn before Battle, through Hell's Faire) were perfect for me. This book goes in a different direction, but continues the theme started in "When the Devil Dances" with Anne Elgar and Wendy of women who have strong military experience and few compuctions where "the enemy" is concerned.
I must note that in "When the Devil Dances", I especially liked the battle scenes set in Rochester, NY. As a retired Eastman Kodak company employee, I spent many years there. Just a nit, John; I'd never consider Elmwood Ave a "northern border of central Rochester". But a great series so far; looking forward to The Hero to find out more about the Darhel.
A Personal Crusade.......2007-06-24
Cally's War (2004) is a standalone SF novel in the Legacy of the Aldenata universe. It takes place about forty years after the Posleen War. The Darhels are still operating in human space, but the Bane Sidhe has recruited a number of human operatives.
The Darhels -- Elves -- are sapient predators who have been genetically modified by the Aldenata to make them incapable of attacking prey. They even have trouble thinking about violence. They have compensated for these artificial restrictions by channeling their drives into commercial activities. However, the Darhels fear the competency of the human race and tried to optimize human casualties during the Posleen War.
Although the human population was greatly reduced, too many survived and are now busily converting their technology to galactic standards, rebuilding their navy, breeding descendents, and colonizing other planets. The Darhels are presently facing growing competition from the humans and continue their sabotage of human efforts.
Meanwhile, the Bane Sidhe -- Ruin of Elves -- are themselves trying to sabotage such Darhel operations. Although the name itself is human, the Bane Sidhe originated as a conspiracy among the Darhel slave races. Yet these galactic species had not been spared from Aldenata meddling, so their revolt was generally confined to espionage and industrial sabotage. Then humanity joined the Galactic Confederation and the Bane Sidhe had access to unconstrained assassins.
In this novel, Cally O'Neal is a Bane Sidhe operative. Her mother had died and her grandfather had been terribly wounded in the Posleen War. When she learned of the secret Darhel manipulations during the war, Cally didn't hesitate to join the Bane Sidhe ranks. Now she is helping to push the Elves out of human space and wouldn't object to greatly reducing *their* population.
Charles Worth is the head honcho of humans working for the Darhel Tir in Chicago. He has been warned about enemy agents operating against the organization, so he is careful of the blonde that he picks up in a bar. Still, he enjoys doing some preparatory torture before turning over the victim to a professional, Sam Fiek.
Cally's backup is slow arriving. When they get there just a little too late, she has already taken down both traitors. Papa O'Neal is a bit embarrassed and she is a mess, but her injuries are nothing that the slab can't repair. The cleaners remove the bodies, her blood and gore, and everything else that might help their enemies, and the Bane Sidhe team then disappears into the night.
Cally has another assignment coming up, but is ordered to take some down time prior to the next mission. She is beginning to show signs of stress over her many assassinations. When she receives word that a traitor reported dead is still alive, however, she spends her vacation terminating the pitiful little turncoat. Boy does that cause a stink in the Bane Sidhe, particularly among the Indowy!
In this story, Cally is sent to Titan base to discover the source of a leak in Bane Sidhe headquarters. She wears the persona of Captain Sinda Makepeace. On the way to Titan, she travels with Lieutenant Joshua Pryce, aide de camp to General Beed. Since they are both working for the same boss, they share information and study together on the long trip.
This story shows the gradual deterioration of Indowy relations with humans within the Bane Sidhe becaose of Cally's execution of Charles Petane. The Indowy view it as the irrational act of a carnivore, but humans perceive it as correcting a betrayal by their own leadership. It becomes a major stumbling block in the alliance between humans and Indowy.
To humans, of course, loyalty is bidirectional, with the leaders owing certain types of respect to their followers. The Indowy, however, expect all loyalty to be bestowed upwards within the Clan. The Indowy are not used to considering other viewpoints and the human attitude is discerned within their own worldview as a form of chaos bordering on disloyalty.
The story starts out with sex and violence and continues in the same vein throughout the book. Somewhere in the last quarter of the book, sex becomes more than just lust. Captain Makepeace and Lieutenant Pryce start to become involved with each other. Papa O'Neal has mixed feeling on the matter.
This will not be the last novel about Cally O'Neal. Sister Time is coming. Enjoy!
Highly recommended for Ringo & Cochrane fans and for anyone else who enjoys tales of covert operations, complex family relations, and rocky romance.

Couldn't Finish.......2007-05-18
Prior to this book, I hadn't read anything by John Ringo. So I had no expectations of what the book was or should be other than one with good action and a kicka$$ leading lady. I had no problem with the sex nor with the, well, only implied sadism. What I did have a problem with was the disjointedness of the plot. (Was there a plot?)
The book got off to a great action start then fizzled with page after page after page with details of Cally's daily life. As another reviewer pointed out Cally seemed occupied with her clothes, hair and sex. Fine. I don't have a problem with this character development if the story is going somewhere. But it didn't. If it did, it was moving at a snail's pace.
Maybe I gave up too early around page 100. But all these details didn't seem to have a point other than to add to the final word count. And I just couldn't take it anymore.
SUCKS.......2007-05-03

Book Description
A partisan of religious expression as well as personal freedom, Hasson takes the reader on a tour of the American tradition and points the way towards a pluralism that grounds religious freedom for all in the truth about each of us.
Customer Reviews:
Terribly Wrong.......2007-10-10
This is one of the worst books I have ever read. It is poorly written and poorly argued. The author seems to believe that religious people have the right to express their views, EVEN WHEN CONTRARY TO THE CONSTITUTION, in any place, at any time, regardless of the feelings of other people. So let's have prayer in the schools, at football games, mangers in the public square! That's what he is saying. Well, sorry, Buster, but there are those of us who believe that SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE actually has MEANING and was put there for a reason by the Founding Fathers, who were a lot smarter than Hasson! Hasson, you are NOT going to end the Culture Wars by simply imposing your views on the rest of us who don't share your beliefs! If Hasson wants to have a REAL DIALOGUE with Secularists, fine. But don't start with the view that you can cram your religious views down my throat at any time and anyplace, 'cause I'm not going to let you, and neither will my brothers and sisters who believe in freedom!
Almost right, but then went so very wrong.......2007-02-17
This book was fascinating, and a very enjoyable read. The early history of religion and faith in our country was not only extremely well written and thorough, but was also outright shocking. The amount of state sanctioned persecution is shameful and the Pilgrims, rather than being celebrated, should be mocked throughout history for their despicable hypocrisy.
Hasson does a remarkable job of portraying all the reasons why the government should not be involved in religion, and makes a good argument that we all have "the right to be wrong". Religion is a personal choice and should never be coerced.
The first 3/4 of the book is outstanding, yet somehow, even with all the evidence he has just presented, he goes terribly wrong and jumps to the absurd conclusion that the government should sponsor religion. Yes, it is a natural part of our lives and cannot be denied, but allowing everyone their own rights, and the right to publicly act and express those beliefs, is a far cry from using our tax dollars to support and encourage someone's particular beliefs. Yes, all faiths have a right to the public square, but that does not mean that I should have to pay them out of my pocket. Then I learned that his Beckett fund actually legally supports such ridiculous things as paying criminals to attend church services - which is the same thing as taxpayer support of religiuos indoctrination.
History has shown us over and over that the one way to keep government from corrupting religion (and vice-versa) is not to outright sponsor it, but to remain neutiral to all faiths. We have the greatest religiuos freedom of any country on earth, and it flourishes here, precisely because of this separation. To encourage government support of all relgions is to entirely miss the point of most of the author's own writing.
In spite of this, I would still recommend this book (just skip the last chapters), but had to give it low rating for reaching completely the wrong conclusion - when well over 3/4 of the book made it abuntantly obvious that govenment support of religion can only eventually lead to either persecution or abomination. That a man can understand so much of history, and still go so wrong is a mistery, and in the end I would have to say "Shame on Seamus"!
Great Title, great idea, but..........2006-06-27
I loved the title of this book and browsed a couple of pages before deciding to buy it. I thought the author was well on the way to finding a way out of the mess that religion has become in the USA. The subtitle of the book advertizes "ending the culture war over religion in America." I felt the author was doing a great job of thrashing out the issues until I got to the chapter "Where does religious liberty come from?" Alas, the answer reveals the author's true feelings: to put is succinctly, he says, "We're at our best when we're searching for God." (p. 123) In one sentence, he ruined the book for me by leaving out a large part of the issue, namely those of us who really don't find any reason to search for God and wish that we could just not have to listen to the debate any longer. Recent surveys show that the fastest growing religious persausion in the USA is "none." Mr. Hasson apparently feels it is OK to ignore this segment of the population. I don't see how we can end the culture war until the non-believers in our society get some respect.
Easy to Read, and Thought-Provoking Too.......2006-03-29
First, for those who may be frightened away by a 'serious' book addressing a weighty topic, let me say that the book is written in plain, easy-to-read English, and that the author's occasionally wry sense of humor shows through and contributes to an enjoyable read.
Substantively, Hasson raises thought-provoking questions that can take you back to philosophy class, only in a more understandable manner than the prof probably provided. At the core of his premise is the idea -- enshrined in American founding documents -- that the right to believe is a natural right, and one that government has no authority to interfere with whatsoever. Where that right comes from and what it means provide, ultimately, the rock for creating the suggested (and sensible) approach to 'ending the culture war over religion' which the author urges. Believe that a government should 'tolerate' different religions and beliefs within its borders? Hasson doesn't, and by the time he's finished explaining why, you'll agree with him.
Hasson's a good storyteller too. You'll meet historical figures here that you vaguely remember from studying colonial america in school, only this time you'll get a better understanding of why their stories are important. Why shouldn't Mary Dyer have been hanged?
This book should be required reading for, well, everyone. Or, at least, everyone, 'religious' or not, with a good faith desire to see an end to wars both cultural and otherwise amongst those of differing beliefs.
Let humans be human.......2006-03-22
Let's say someone is writing the constitution for our new government. They declare that you have an inherent right to musical, artistic and literary freedom - as long as you don't play your music publicly, or display your pictures where people can see them, or publish your books. You would rightly say, that isn't freedom at all. Artistic expression is meant to be ... expressed! Well, the same is true of religious expression. Whether you believe in it or not is completey irrelevant. The point is that public expression of what we each believe to be the ultimate truths of life is a natural, normal, universal (and exciting) part of being human. Saying that people should only express their religion in the privacy of their own homes with the shades drawn (and calling that freedom) is literally inhuman. But allowing for the greatest amount of diverse religious expression in a culture exemplifies the very best of humanism.
This book is a gem. Buy multiple copies for friends and family. It will clear up your thinking on this subject.
(Now, if we can just get the Supreme Court to read it.)
