Book Description
Tree houses capture the imagination of the child in all of us, and they have never been more popular than they are today. This inspirational yet thoroughly practical guide shows even the most inexperienced weekend carpenter how to design and build a lifetime of memories for the entire family. With more than 200,000 copies of their popular Weekend Project Books sold, David and Jeanie Stiles have become America's First Couple of do-it-yourself woodworking. In Tree Houses You Can Actually Build, they explain basic building procedures through clear, simple instructions and non-technical line drawings that illustrate every step of the project, from the earliest sketches to the final cedar shingle. The authors outline five basic designs that can be adapted to virtually any set of conditions, and throughout the book, they emphasize safety for both adults and children. In addition to line drawings, the book contains a section of full-color photographs highlighting a variety of tree house projects, plus helpful building tips based on interviews with their owners.
Customer Reviews:
Lively little sketch book, very conversational.......2007-07-27
Works for kids, works for adults, very clear and very helpful. Very graphics oriented and the sketches make the text very clear.
Unfortunately does not even mention escalating tree houses beyond the backyard project - if this were a full-revalation book, you would see the new engineering miracle, the Garnier Limb.
We were quite pleased - PS we are hard graders, hardly anything gets a 5.
Title for Tree Houses You can Actually Build.......2007-06-01
I think you have to be a master carpenter to actually do any of them in a week-end but the detail is pretty good.....odd thing is, I bought this book and already had it at home! I must have really liked it!
To find the kids, look up.......2007-05-21
Color pictures of some fantastic tree house ideas. No limits on imagination here. One caution: Don't let the kids see it first! Can't wait to start one of these ideas.
Great Help!!.......2007-05-08
Excellent guide for treehouse construction. We used the book as a basis for our treehouse and modified one of the designs. This book was extremely valuable for us and guided us through alot of potential pitfalls. Highly recommend!
you CAN actually build one of these!.......2007-05-06
What a fantastic book! My kids and I have had so much fun browsing through and getting ideas for their tree house. From the basic tree house to more elaborate designs, it's in here. With the help of this book, you can actually build one affordably.
Book Description
Clear explanation of general techniques and tools Specific instructions about how, when, and where to prune 70 different plants
Customer Reviews:
Clear, practical guide with helpful text and illustrations.......2001-10-25
I recently moved into a house with a yard and a variety of trees, vines, and Roses. I have read large gardening references before in attempts to prune planter box trees and gardens, but never walked away with the sense that I could actually prune and train my plants successfully. This book began with definitions of terminology, tool selection, and provided clear text and multiple helpful drawings and pictures all geared towards the intelligent adult. It addreses the unique properties of the various fruit trees, rose bushes, vines, and shrubs, and gives advice as to when to hire and how to choose an arborist. It helped me understand the impact of pruning and has made me a more educated 'tree' observer.
I cannot see myself ever needing to buy another pruning book! I would highly recommend this for complete and straight forward pruning guide.

Book Description
Tree Weekend does not show final products of individual design processes. The Norwegian designer Kim Hiørthoy rather attempts to capture the brief moments in which ideas are created. Photographs, hand drawings and computer graphics from very diverse disciplines brought back to their core - from roughly sketched to elaborately presented. The result has more resemblance to a film than to a book, happens with serious playfulness and only to the extent which is needed to increase one´s awareness of everyday images, processes and language which often are the key to good design. Kim Hiørthoy's ideas are born on shaky ground, not in a safe haven. That´s why Tree Weekend is an amusingly-calculated and interdisciplinary flood of fragile moments and images somewhere between modern HipHop graphics, sketch book entries, photo files, kindergarten games and the preparation of a potato soup.
Customer Reviews:
wonderfull.......2003-01-10
I can see resemblence between sagmeister's "made you look" and Kim Hiorthoy's book. Both are reveiling the designer behind the design, but while sagmeister's book is briliant and explosive this book is sensitive and delicate. Beautifull imagery combined with very personal, lyrical text reveal a very talented and highly inteligent designer. I wish i bought this book sooner.
Graphic goods.......2001-11-19
For music-heads Norwegian Kim Hiorthøy is probably best known for the cover design for the Rune Grammofon label and videos and covers for the Motorpsycho band. "Tree Weekend" is a beautiful full-colour book with photos, sketches and other graphics. Playful and highly personal indeed. Recommended.

Rock Solid Tree Book for the Pacific Nothwest.......2006-10-24
This is an excellent and easy to use book that integrates graphics and drawings to help you quickly identify and differentiate Pacific Northwest trees. It is certainly easier to use than the 'thicker' more comprehensive field guides available, yet I do not find it juvenile or lacking. When I purchased it ten years ago I just wanted a starting place for identifying differences between firs, many tree books later, it is still my classic standard.

Product Description
The book is in English with 132 pages, (80 in full color) measuring approximately 10 inches long by 7 inches wide. Girls: You gotta love 'em. But when designing or drawing a female character, an artist--especially a male artist--may have trouble pinpointing the specific qualities that make young women so, well, unique. For instance, what is it about a young woman's room that makes it so inviting? What secret weapons do they keep hidden in their purses? Do they really lie asleep in that sultry manner so seductively portrayed by actresses on television? And when you pass them on the streets, why do they smell so darned good? This book answers those questions and many more as it takes an intimate look at the private lives of six very different young women. The information within serves as a reference and inspiration in your own character design. You'll meet the following cast of characters: Author: Kazuko Tadano Manufacturer: Graphic Sha

Cute Book But Not Worth Buying.......2007-08-28
Honestly, I found the book to be very intersting. It illustrated the different girl's lives. "Perky" girl, "Precocious" girl, "Uppity" girl, "Dreamy" girl, and "Shy" girl, and "Sporty" girl.
So it generated on those six types of girls lifestyles. It was pretty cool. It gave an insight on how each one of their bedrooms would be, what clothes they wear, what undergarments they wear, what their bathrooms would be like and the list goes on.
It does also show what Nude positions they would be on, based on their personality. But whatever, I mean come on. That's how we all start out when we're born right. If someone's complaining about that, just make sure you send a slip to your teacher not to be assigned to a health class. It goes MUCH more into detail. A health class will not hide anything. This book only shows the nude body, keeping all private parts hidden.
Anyway yeah like I said it's pretty cool. But i wouldn't buy it. I mean all I had to do was read over it and I had a general understanding of how to set up the different types of girls. I suggest if you have a friend who already has this book, you ask them if you can borrow. You can buy it, but I feel like it would be a waste after a bit.
Great Coloring and Illustrations.......2007-07-11
This is a great book to give you an idea of various girls of variours personalities ranging from a perky girl to a shy girl. This shows some of the most loveliest illustrations that are both black and white and color. It's mostly in color though which is absolutely amazing and great! I recommend this book for those who like to draw females to kimonos to various other things. Perfect if you want to make your female character come out great
For Completists.......2007-04-04
This makes five of the "How to Draw Manga..." series I own, and I have browsed others at the bookstore. I also own a fair smattering of books about the art and architecture of modern Japan, and have visited (briefly) myself. Thus my reaction to this book is that it basically duplicates information you can get elsewhere, but it is nice to have it collected in one place.
The best part is the actual floor plans of several girl's bedrooms/apartments, although these would be even more useful if they included a little more of the complete house/flat/apartment floor. Annoyingly, these are not duplicated by floor plans of locker room, classroom, sento...these are annoyingly difficult for a westerner to get right, in the detail needed to draw a complete manga scene in one of those settings.
The details of bedroom and entry-way furniture are a handy reference, as are the cosmetics, and some of the handbag and other contents give tantalizing glimpses into activities (like blotting paper or mini-photo books) that could be worked into great little bits of on-stage business in a well-drawn manga.
As with many of the books in this series, I could do with a smaller font that would allow at least twice the text. Too often the captions or explanations are too brief to be informative.
This book contains essentially nothing on anatomy, perspective, manga drawing conventions, or how to draw. It is strictly a reference, and a very specific reference at that. If you are building up the books to draw your own shoujo manga (or something very similar), this fits on the short shelf. If your interests are larger, look elsewhere in the series.
parents really don't get it!.......2006-12-03
im 11, and i found NOTHING provocative because im a manga artist and sometimes when i draw comic or a pic you need to draw them putting on make-up, or taking a shower!
aleast its not show there private parts!
and i found it very useful, sometimes you need detail like that.
and i have a brother who draws too and he being a boy he dosen't know all about girls like i do, so it was helpful.
so if you need a book to help you draw girls and things like their rooms and stuff. its a VERY good book!
and all the revews that kids wrote found nothing wrong with it! only the parents found something wrong with it! and its not going to wreck your childhood anything!
Very Kawaii!.......2006-11-30
When I saw this book, I knew I had to have it! The illustrations are wonderful, and packed full of ideas you can use for a girls manga. This book contains info about the kind of things young women like to buy. It gives you examples of different kind of girl personalities, what that specific girl would wear, how she would behave, and what she enjoys doing. If you're looking for a book that shows some Yukata's, as well as how young women put on makeup, then this is definately a book for you! I think it is very adorable. If you are looking for more than what the title suggests, then you will be sorely dissapointed. This book is not misleading at all. It depicts exactly what the title advertises, girls' life illustration file. I would definately recommend this book if you would like to have a reference on girls activities.

When the teacher is ready, THIS BOOK will appear!.......2007-09-22
Karen Salmenson has her finger on the pulse of what readers not only want but may need to read.
Enough, Dammit: A Cynic's Guide is a fun but meaningful read for people who need to get past the roadblocks of past experiences that programmed them for negativity and failure that they now impose on themselves.
If you recognize yourself in this, you must buy this book. It's one of the best gifts you'll ever get.
Think positive.......2007-01-09
I bought this book for my 21 yr old son, who is stuck and searching for his path in life. The book presents so many great messages about thinking positive, changing your outlook to change your life, taking personal responsibility for choices, etc. He wouldn't be caught dead with any of the "real" self-help books, so I thought this was a good way to introduce some of the concepts. My one complaint is that it is really written for women; the personal relationship stuff all assumes the reader is female and trying to date men. I just hope that doesn't turn him off because the rest of the messages are gender-nuetral. It's upbeat, catchy, a 10-minute read.
Dammit this book is Great!.......2006-03-12
I always think I like self-help books until I read one. This book however is just enough hudspah? to make it a worthwile read. I kept it in the bathroom and when in need of a little dose of reality and get up and go, i would open it up. It tells it like it is and with beautiful digital photos. This book is a great read and a great gift for anyone in a bit of a wallow.
Fabulousness.......2006-03-10
I loved this book. The lessons in it, are an owners manual for the success driven mind and a great gift for people of all ages. It's self help with the delight of a great kids book. If Tony Robbins and Pinnochio had a kid, this would be it.

dump those bad habits, baby!.......2005-09-29
I never thought Id have funreading a self help book -- but Karen Salmansohn is not only insightful, she comes up with fun metaphors that make me laugh as I learn. She talks about how we were brainwashed by our childhood but its more like being braindirtied...and how we have to see stressful thigns wiht pain-a-ramic vision...with a 360 degree perspective that reveals the happy lesson to be learned...the gain from pain... I loved this book! And I love this author's website [...] A must read for anyone trying to break a bad pattern!

Customer Reviews:
It is SO funny.......2007-01-10
I read through it the first time and thought it was funny--but after reading it again and again, I laugh even more. Having grown up in New York and worked for and known many Jewish people, I have a mental picture of them saying these very same things. I told my brother I would send it to him when I finished reading it, but I'm keeping it and will probably buy another one for him. Catherine Seitz
Four Dreidels (out of five).......2004-04-04
The book itself didn't make much sense, but anything that mentions Barbra Streisand is Kosher with me. I actually peed all over myself (twice). Hysterical I tell you.
I Grew Up with This!.......2000-11-10
This is funny stuff. I grew up with this and its good to see this stuff in print. It's great reading. It's a real goof when you've got your head in this book laughing it off and you know you are getting some strange looks. This I've got to laugh twice at!
hilarious!.......1998-07-10
Sure, sure, you've heard 'em before -- but who cares! They're classic jokes, and Kohl's cartoons are alone worth the price of the book. This book will cover most of my Hanukkah gifts this year!
'fall down on the floor' laughing....a real tonic..........1997-12-05
My family took turns reading the book out loud at breakfast....we could not stop reading or laughing....we were all late for work....what great medicine, these jokes just don't go out of style...I'm smiling just thinking about it
