Great African Oral History.......2005-10-01
This is a great read, and I would encourage anyone who is interested about African oral history, to read Sundiata. It reflects the rich oral tradion that so greatly defines African culture. This is an epic about a cripple who becomes an Emperor (to put very simply). A great Hero Story.
From The Publishers:.......2004-11-10
I am adding the following in hopes it may be of help to someone:
Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Retold by generations of griots-the guardians of African culture-this oral tradition has been handed down from thirteenth century and captures all the mystery and majesty of medieval African kingship. It is an epic tale-part history, part legend-which should rank alongside the 'Iliad' and the 'Odyssey' as one of the world's great adventure stories.
Sundiata: A Story Worth Reading.......2003-12-03
Sundiata is an epic of Old Mali. It talks about Sundiata who "was great among kings, he was peerless among men; he was beloved of God because he was the last of the great conquerors" (2). The events of this story seem to be exaggerated because they pictured Sundiata as a supernatural person, with supernatural powers. The writer mixed the true and exaggerated events in a very smart way that made the story seem not fictional but more or less true.
This exaggerated story show that the prophetic words of the hunters were real and that Sundiata is a complete and unique person. He had a unique mother, a strange birth, a weird childhood, a great struggle, a supernatural power, a great mind, an unlimited kindness, and justice. He combined all the characteristics that people wish to have. Not to forget that if the characteristics of Sundiata were not exaggerated, the story would not have lasted over all these years and he would have been forgotten.
This story is a great mean through which you can learn about the traditions and values of Old Mali. Through this story you can learn about the system of Kingship. You can also learn about the family system and the bonds that tie them.
I rarely read; however, I finished reading this story in one setting because it is very interesting and it was able to transfer me to a different world. The details of the settings and events made it so easy for me to picture myself on the battlefields, and among the travelers, etc...
For all the reasons stated above, I really recommend reading Sundiata and enjoying the great suspense and interesting events. I am sure that through this book you will acquire a new valuable experience.
Enjoy it.
Entertaining and enlighteneing history.......2001-09-13
This translation of the oral epic of Sundiata, the founder of the Mali nation, is African history at it's most entertaining. In 1995, while a college student, I managed to finish this one nght at a laundromat. A real page-turner and example of good history combined with good storytelling. Go for it. BTW-when you finish it, note the similarities between this and Disney's "The Lion King." Hmmmmmmmmmmm........
Rare book: having found it is already a great accomplishment.......2000-12-30
It is amazing how the author re-discovered such a far-away subject, revitalizing it and bringing it back to our days and our society, in a way that will be fascinating and enjoyable for the average reader. Had it not been for the book, who would ever hope to find such fascinating epic in the tradition of old Mali ? The author did a great job in finding this, and putting it down on paper for posterity.

Are his bachelor days numbered?
He was strong, seductive and set in his ways. She was shy, unassuming and achingly innocent. Together, next-door neighbors Jordan Powell and Libby Collins were like oil and water. Yet when Jordan made it his personal crusade to help Libby hold on to her beloved homestead, everyone in Jacobsville knew it was just a matter of time before wedding bells chimed for these sparring partners. And if truth be told, the taciturn rancher wouldn't deny the exquisite tenderness that surged through him every time he pulled Libby into his powerful embrace any more than she could resist his breathtaking kisses. But a cattleman's pride was a force to be reckoned with. Could Libby accomplish what no woman had before and tame this Long, Tall Texan's restless heart?

One of my favorites!.......2006-10-29
This book has got to be one of my favorites by Diana Palmer. It's great...it has all the right components to make it a great story. Libby is strong...she handles the death of her father, the torment of her enemy, and the torture of her stepmother very well. I believe she's one of the strongest characters from Diana Palmer's books. Jordan Powell is simply great....although he does get blinded by a woman, its natural...at least it is realistic about what sometimes happens in real life. Jordan is very masculine and very passionate...one of the sweetest chracters as well..it has enough passion, action, and tenderness...overall this book is one of the best by far!
Transition is Odd.......2005-11-09
I love Diana Palmer books. This book is no exception. I loved it, but the transition from Jordan being cruel to Jordan being sweet and sorry was a little rushed. The story line was great, but that one small part was rushed and kind of made the story predictable. I still recommend reading it.
Please............2005-09-03
Lately, Diana Palmer's books have started to annoy me...the copyright in my book says 2004, but the dialect is from way before! Jordan was a jerk who in the last chapter manages to somehow become Prince Charming, Curt did nothing for Libby, and Libby acted like a helpless little girl when Jordan was around. She's a paralegal, for heavens sakes! Another thing, why do they say "prophylactics"? when was the last time that word was used? It's a condom people. I'm also sick how in these books, the only reason they want to get married/fall in love is through sex. They don't really know each other, they just know they like kissing one another. I would not recommend this book; the conversation was so stilted.
I guess you either liked it or you didn't........2005-04-24
I actually loved this book and gone back again to read it a second time. There are a couple things and parts in this book that really made me mad and some things that were a little wrong, but it added to the story and was a good book. It starts out as Libby and Curt trying to save their home after their father dies. Their stepmom is trying to take it away from them by any means possible. Jordan owns the ranch next door and has been friends with Libby and Curt all their lives. Libby and Jordan fall for eachother, but he is much older than she is. Then, Libby and Jordan have a fallout due to political and age differences. Jordan starts seeing a woman named Julie. Then, for almost the rest of the book Julie has a grudge against Libby and torments her. Then things finally get straightened out and everyone lives happy ever after.
I didn't really like how the stepmom ups and dissappears by page 75. At the beginning of this book, you think that she is going to be the villian in the book, but by page 75 the whole situation is solved and you don't here anything else on her really. Julie is the villian in this book and you don't get introduced to her until much later in the book. Also, I didn't think that it was right for Jordan just to stand by and watch Libby take the abuse she got from Julie. I found it hard to believe he just stood there when Julie slapped her. Libby's life is threatened and then Jordan comes around to his senses.
I am used to Diana Palmer story lines, so I expected heated emotional scenes and lots of conflict and that is just what I got out of this book. It has a wonderful ending for everybody in this book and that's why I enjoyed it so much.
I loved it.........2004-06-01
This was the first book by Diana Palmer that I have read, and I loved it. I have since gone out and bought Lawless, and have read it, too. I can't wait till August when Renegade comes out!

One of the best SW books ever.......2007-07-19
It's one of the best Star Wars books I've ever read, I connected with the characters and I praise Karen for making them truly unique individuals in spite of the fact of being clones! And I absolutely loved the little philosophical concerns that are expressed in the book, just as I enjoy them in the Wess'har series (pick up those books by Karen Traviss, if you enjoy this book, you're gonna love them)...
I love when an author can make me stop reading and think about what I'm reading and yet wanting not to put the book away and lying to myself "I'll read just to the end of the chapter... but... how does the next chapter begins?"
Somewhat better than Hard Contact.......2007-05-31
This is the second in the series. The author does a better job this time in fleshing out the characters. I cared a little more about what happened to them this time than I did in the previous book.
Unfortunately the plot is still substandard. It's kinda interesting but it doesn't really pick up much steam and doesn't climax well.
It's another decent read for Star Wars fan. Somewhat better than the first "Hard Contact" book but I'd still classify it as mediocre.
Another bullseye.......2007-05-19
I think this is about as close as we'll get to 24 in the Star Wars universe. The story brings back the protagonists from Hard Contact for another adventure set during the Clone Wars. This time, the action takes place on Coruscant--the title refers to the planet's coordinates, as it is considered the center of the galaxy--where Separatist terrorists have been...well...causing terror. The boys of Omega Squad are teamed up with Delta, the heroes of LucasArts's Republic Commando video game. What's strange is the fact that Delta is almost unlikeable, due to their near disdain for Omega. This rivalry, however, turns out to be a strong, interesting element rather than a weakness. Once again along for the ride is Jedi Knight Etain Tur-Mukan, whose friendship with commando Darman is developed even more in this entry. This relationship ends up being surprisingly affecting; I really felt for these characters and kept wishing that they could have met under different circumstances. The oft-mentioned Kal Skirata shows up in this entry, and he proves to be every bit as colorful as one would imagine from reading Hard Contact. To my surprise, he also ends up having several poignant moments throughout. This is really what surprised me about Triple Zero; it actually manages to examine a lot of the ethical and philosophical issues that relate to the characters and their actions, whether it be about the morality of torture or validity of clones as human beings. If I have one criticism, it is that it feels like the resolution of the mission falls into place too easily. I was expecting a twist or two to occur near the end to make things more interesting. To her credit, though, Traviss intends to make the characters and their relationships more important than the anti-terror plot. With her command of character-driven action and Mandalorian culture, I'd really love to see Traviss tackle some Boba Fett stories set in the time period between episodes two and five. Anyone who agrees, please email [..]and let them know!
Triple Zero.......2007-05-13
This thrilling sequel to Hard Contact (both by Karen Traviss) is a great and exciting book. It is filled with action from beginning to end and is laced with shocking twists, turns, and developments. I would highly recommend this book to any Star Wars fun or anyone looking for sci-fi action. But please do yourself a favor, read "Star Wars Republic Commando: Hard Contact" first.
More Action.......2007-05-07
I didn't like this one as well as I did Hard Contact. Let me tell you why. I'm a more of relationships reader not an action reader. Yes I want there to be action but I don't want it to be the main story of the book and it is in this one. I'm not going to write a plot summary because so many already have written about it. I loved how Ms. Traviss brought the other characters that were mentioned in Hard Contact into this book especially Kal and Orbo. I loved how you found out more about how the clones came into existance and what their training was like. Yes, I enjoyed the action but at times it was overwhelming to me to figure out what and who they were talking about. I really enjoyed the progression of Etain and Darmin. I can't wait for more of the books about the commandos and the Nulls. I would highly recommend this book to any Star Wars fan but read Hard Contact first. I just couldn't give it 5 stars but it's still a great book.

Book Description
Fear is the source of all of the negative agreements we've made with life. It can alienate us from the joy that is our birthright. When we are able to look at our lives without fear or judgments, we realize that reality can be whatever we want it to be. Beyond Fear leads seekers of the Toltec way of freedom and joy on their spiritual journey into a state of empowerment.
More expansive and in-depth than The Four Agreements, Beyond Fear contains information on life after death, prophecies about the evolution of humanity, and exercises and ceremonies to walk readers through the process of shedding fear and becoming spiritually and emotionally alive.
Customer Reviews:
Release the fears that keep us in the dream of hell.......2007-09-23
This "Toltec Guide To Freedom and Joy" is based on teachings by Don Miguel Ruiz. There are many words that are directly from him, and shown as such, but the book is written by Mary Carroll Nelson who has collected and recorded Don Miguel's teachings.
I picked up this book on several different visits to the bookstore trying to decide if I should buy it. I found many spiritual principles that I'd already read and understood from other places, and more that peaked my interest. The idea that this is all an illusion is sometimes difficult to understand even though I can believe it. The teachings about fear and how we are conditioned to it and how to break out of it are the main course of the book.
There's lots of info here that I hadn't come across before. The ideas of hell and the Judge and Victim. The part about how "Everything we do is based on agreements" -and how that limits us. As I read this through the first time, there were some things that were foreign and hard for me to grasp. When I finished the book I almost felt like I'd just finished a sci-fi book. It's not that I don't believe what I read, it's just that some of the ideas are new to me. There are lots of intriguing thoughts and ideas about spirituality, life, death and fear and love expressed here.
Near the beginning of the book, Miguel was in Egypt via trance travel where he found himself in a long hallway underground. There was an old man who served as his teacher who showed him some glyphic figures on a wall and Miguel knew that this man was a Hierophant. Later on, Miguel realized that the images he had seen were illustrations from The Book Of Thoth and what we know as Tarot cards. After studying the cards, he found that none were entirely accurate but that the ones designed by Pamela C. Smith (under direction of AE Waite) are based in love and the ones by Aleister Crowley are based on fear. I found this section and his findings particularly interesting. The author, Mary Carroll Nelson says that "Miguel will write a future interpretation of the Tarot." -I hope he does because I would love to read that.
Overall, this is an interesting book and there is a lot here to absorb and learn from. It's something that I've returned to several times and I think I gain more understanding each time. The information is beneficial and can aid in advancement spiritually, but at the same time, I think one has to be ready to read this. (Due to our present conditioning) Otherwise, it could seem very unreal.
Beyond Fear is Great.......2007-01-18
Great book. Well written and very insightful to life and all it's mysteries. As a person with many issues tied to fear (!) I look for ways to uncover my hidden fears which in my experience are the real anchors. I read this book slowly over a long period of time and found it to be a tremendous resource and source of inspiration.
Very disappointing...........2006-11-17
I basically agree with most of the reviewers with negative comments. I couldn't finish the book. I've read and re-read Ruiz's books and they helped me a lot. I don't know why Ruiz let Nelson publish this book which obviously gave misunderstanding, confusion, or frustration to the Ruiz' fans and had a negative effect on his teaching. Also, I'm sad to see that so many people misunderstand that this book is written by him.
More Harm Than Good?.......2006-10-21
Basically, I am going to agree with the previous negative comments. I have read all of Ruiz' works and some others and this is just another case of someone trading off another's name. I, also, could not even get through this thing. If you are looking for self awareness stick to the basic books by Ruiz.
A spiritual interpretive guide to the teachings of don Miguel Ruiz and his interpretation of Toltec practices.......2006-05-05
Beyond Fear: A Toltec Guide To Freedom And Joy from the teachings of don Miguel Ruiz as recorded by Mary Carrol Nelson (Founder of the Layerists in Multi-Media) is a spiritual interpretive guide to the teachings of don Miguel Ruiz and his interpretation of Toltec practices. Inclusive of guidance through the basic elements of Toltec wisdom and the spiritual practice, tools for transformation such as exercises and ceremonies, an imaginary journey to Teotihuacan, information on the life after death, prophecies about the evolution of humanity, and biographical information on don Miguel Ruiz and his training with his curandera mother, Mother Sarita, Beyond Fear is provides the reader with an insightful understanding of the message and philosophy of Ruiz. Beyond Fear is very highly recommended reading for students of Toltec philosophy, metaphysical studies, those seeking a more innovative interpretation of life and spiritual ideals, and most particularly those who have studied from the Four Agreements.
