Book Description
A brilliant new installment in the prize-winning Cork O'Connor series -- from the acclaimed author of Boundary Waters and Purgatory Ridge.
When the corpse of a beautiful high school student is discovered on a hillside four months after her disappearance on New Year's Eve, all evidence points to her boyfriend, local bad boy Solemn Winter Moon. Despite Solemn's self-incriminating decision to go into hiding, Cork O'Connor, Aurora, Minnesota's former sheriff, isn't about to hang the crime on a kid he's convinced is innocent. In an uphill battle to clear Solemn's name, Cork encounters no shortage of adversity. Some -- like bigotry and bureaucracy -- he knows all too well. What Cork isn't prepared for is the emergence of a long-held resentment from his own childhood. And when Solemn reappears, claiming to have seen a vision of Jesus Christ in Blood Hollow, the mystery becomes thornier than Cork could ever have anticipated. And that's when the miracles start happening....

"A brilliant new installment in the prize-winning Cork O'Connor series -- from the acclaimed author of The Devil's Bed and Purgatory Ridge -- immerses readers in an eerie mystery surrounding a racially charged murder in small-town Minnesota. Winner of the Loft-McKnight Fiction Award and the Anthony Award for Best First Novel, William Kent Krueger is a wholly original talent among mystery writers, managing to fuse inspired, fluid storytelling with complex, finely textured characterizations. Now, in a briskly paced novel that outstrips even its predecessors in its ability to ratchet up the suspense, Krueger takes us back to Aurora, Minnesota, where the charismatic Cork O'Connor encounters his most baffling case to date. When the corpse of a beautiful high school student is discovered on a hillside four months after her disappearance on New Year's Eve, all evidence points to her boyfriend, local bad boy Solemn Winter Moon. Despite Solemn's self-incriminating decision to go into hiding, Cork O'Connor, Aurora's former sheriff, isn't about to hang the crime on the kid, whom O'Connor is convinced is innocent. In an uphill battle to clear Solemn's name, Cork encounters no shortage of adversity. Some he knows all too well -- small-town bigotry and bureaucracy foremost among them. What Cork isn't prepared for is the emergence of a long-held resentment hailing from his own childhood. And when Solemn reappears, claiming to have seen a vision of Jesus Christ in Blood Hollow, the mystery becomes thornier than Cork could ever have anticipated. And that's when the miracles start happening.... Praised by critics and peers alike for his bold and insightful writing, William Kent Krueger has become a master of mixing brilliant, evocative prose with stunning, nonstop suspense. Readers are sure to be riveted by his latest foray into the darkest corners of a small-town paradise and the detective who is determined to bring it all to light."

A Gripping and Moving Mystery.......2006-07-04
William Kent Krueger won me over with this Cork O'Connor mystery. The narrative style is deceptively calm, almost peaceful, until the reader suddenly finds herself embroiled in the conflicts of Aurora, Minnesota, and it becomes imperative that she, along with Cork, find out who is committing murder. I did figure out the killer earlier than I wanted to, but I enjoyed the story so much this wasn't a deal breaker for me.
Highly Recommended.
Cork O'Conner does it again.......2006-05-02
I've read Blood Hollow twice and enjoyed it just as much the second time around. You can always count on Krueger giving you a book that is multi-layered, you'll experience the settings and the weather, come to love Cork O'Connor and his family, and be mystified while trying to figure out who the real bad guy is--something that I couldn't though I'm usually able to when reading a mystery. I also love the Native American mysticism that is woven into each of the Cork O'Conner novels. Blood Hollow will keep you reading.

Strong writer, so-so mystery.......2006-04-06
Krueger is a wonderful writer. The first two chapters paint a vivid, intense picture, and really got me excited about my first reading of this author. And the writing holds up throughout. I can't say the same of the mystery, and certainly not of the suspense. The mystery is captivating when it gets started, and maybe it is enough to carry the book, but if so, the story needed more suspense to make me care more. Like another reviewer here, I was left dissatisfied by the resolution.
I think you will interpret the overt spirituality in the novel in light of your personal thoughts--I didn't care for it, mainly because its importance to the story is negligible, and I felt too much like it was an author offering his views. I suspect some readers will enjoy that aspect more than I did.
In the end I'm giving the novel four stars, mostly because he is a strong writer. I don't see this novel being an award winner, but I think the writer is certainly capable of writing award winning novels. I will read another of his novels soon, hoping to find a better mystery.
A little creepy .......2006-03-22
This was my first book I read by this author. I love mysteries and I picked this up for two reasons: 1. Won a Mystery Book Award in the past and 2. Set in Northern Minnesota.
The descriptions of life in Northern Minnesota were well written, interesting, and I found myself remembering the red colored lakes and the crisp air. The author describes the weather well and there are a couple of snowmobiling scenes which are good.
I liked the story but the whodonit part was difficult to figure out and didn't make a whole lot of sense to me at the end. It didn't seem to me that there were a lot of clues and it came together at the end, but wasn't very satisfying to me. I did finish the book in a few days as it was easy to read and did have some suspense.
I did enjoy the many Catholic and Native American symbols that were used throughout the book. The author really spent a lot of time thinking through the symbolism and presenting it in an interesting way.
One piece of advise for Cork O'Connor would be that since he runs around solving mysteries for no money, he should at least check with the "rez" as he calls it to collect some casino money for himself since he is part Native American!
Blood Hollow.......2005-08-29
It is so nice to visit lovable, if flawed Cork O'coonor again. The changes in his character add realism to him. This book captures the qualities of a small town and the people who live there. Cork, again, strives to stay true to his ideals, although not always in the most conventional ways.
Krueger haas done it again!

Product Description
The Blue Bloods meet the Blue Ridge - a reverse "Beverly Hillbillies?" With a family like his, how could Hirsh escape becoming a psychiatrist? It's all about how the other half lives. Which other half? That depends which side of the Hollow you're from. . . Appalachia. According to popular mythology, it's a mountainous holdover from colonial days, an all-white outlaw society mired in poverty and cliche jokes about family feuds. Throw in some stories about moonshine, add a few images of grimy coal miners and you're done. People who know better and try to preserve Appalachian history and culture are not match for developers greedy for more land and franchise locations. The process is irreversible, but the real story - hilariously funny, sometimes poignant, always surprising - can be told, savored and remembered.

Family Feud.......2006-03-10
The author writes of an area of which I am very familiar. I grew up in Bath County and heard many of the stories that the author tells. Great photos.
There are three sections of the book were I laughed so hard I was crying and trying to catch my breath.
Great Trip Back to a Place I Never Knew.......2006-02-19
Really enjoyed this retrospective trip into the entirely different lives of three distinct groups of people inhabiting the same small town in Appalachia - or is it the same town?!. Certainly a very different one to each. The author recounts such wonderfully simple moments in these people's lives and evokes such emotion... though I laughed (out loud and in public!) for 3/4 of the book I also was outraged, saddened, and inspired by these people. Really enjoyed this read!

Customer Reviews:
Great Romance Novel but only Good by Kleypas Standards.......2007-03-15
I love Lisa Kleypas' novels and wait with anticipation for each new one. This one wasn't really my favorite. I liked the character of Logan in Somewhere I'll Find You (he's also great in the short story 'I Will' that deals with his brother. That story is in the Wist List collection and is absolutely fantastic.) but in Because You're Mine he just came off as a jerk. I'm not a fan of those stories where the hero treats the heroine really poorly but in the end everything's ok. In the last chapter it does become clear why he treats her that way but I found it odd that there wasn't any indication of those reasons before that moment. It just seemed like he was being nasty to her and he was such a bully. I agree with other reviewers to the extent that their age difference emphasized some of the negative aspects of their relationship. It's one thing if a guy is a jerk to his wife but it's weird when she's so much younger than him. It came off as borderline abusive and though Maddie did make a mistake early on, she tried to make up for it for way too long. I didn't think she stood up for herself enough (or soon enough)to suit me. Who knows, that was just my perception. I like heroines with a little more backbone. Can you imagine Sophia or Lillian taking that jive? That's why I love them! In all, I agree with a lot of other people-- loved loved LOVED the first half, then hated the second half. For a better Logan story, check out 'I Will'.
Because Your're Mine.......2007-03-08
The book was great. It arrived promptly and was in great shape.
Lovely.......2006-05-15
I started reading this book and thought I was going to hate it because Madeline just seemed too sweet and nice. As this book progressed and the characters of Madeline and Logan developed and I got to know them I became completely engrossed in their lives. Logan, an actor and theatre owner, is a self made success who came from an abusive childhood. Maddie is also abused although not physically and is being forced into a loveless marriage with a old pervert because he is of the peerage.
Maddie decides to have an affair with Logan thinking that a high profile scandal will cause her bethrothed to break their engagement. Logan is dead set against a relationship because she is in a class he can never be included in. Somewhere along the way they fall in love.
When Logan finds out that Maddie set out to use him he is devastated and decides he never wants to see her again. Maddie had decided against using Logan to get out of her engagement because she fell in love but he does not believe her. When he finds out she is pregnant, Logan marries her but promises her it won't be a happy marriage.
This book is a good lesson on betrayal, love and forgiveness and anyone with a heart won't be able to resist it.
Good, but far from Kleypas' best.......2006-02-28
This book follows in a similar vein to many of Kleypas' novels, as she does love to focus on the underdog hero, but somehow it lacked the same spark and vitality as some of her others. It lacked a certain sizzle. I didn't find either of the main characters terribly appealing. Maddy's character was too much of a dichotomy without explanation, one moment fierce and defiant, the next meek and submissive. Logan I just couldn't fathom; Kleypas usually invents delightful tortured heroes, but I don't think she gave him enough depth. I also did not care for his change of character partway through the novel, after marrying Maddy. Some of those scenes were too reminscient of conjugal rape in the style of Rhett Butler for me to be entirely comfortable with them. Still, if you're not being very particular, it's still worth a read.
awesome.......2006-02-12
I have to agree with some reviewers here that this wasn't one of Kleypas' best work. However, I still loved this book. What I really loved about it is that it was so different from other books out there. I think it was interesting how both the characters tried to distance themselves away from each other but in their hearts always (well, maybe starting at the 5th chapter or something) loved each other. The reasons for the characters actions were unique. Yeah, they married because of Maddy being pregnant, but all the action and the reasons were not unoriginal like some people claimed. This book was really unique and different from the romance books out there. It was so different that I did not really like it at first after I finished it. But then I had to think about why the hero acted that way and when I truly realized the whole point of the story I found it beautiful. Truly romantic!!!

Book Description
This powerful and innovative new tarot is really two decks in one. It is the only deck of its kind to contain two separate and distinct tarot decks in one pack of cards, each with its own set of imagery, card interpretations, card spreads, and magical uses.
The Golden Dawn Enochian Skrying Tarot is tailor-made for Enochian ritual work, Tattva skrying, and divination. Each card contains the complete symbolism of the Enochian square that it represents, including the elemental, astrological, geomantic, alchemical, tarot, Egyptian god, archangelic, angelic, kerubic, and Hebrew letter correspondences. The companion guide included in this kit contains complete instructions for working with all aspects of this system, including divinatory card meanings and spreads, and complete instructions for Enochian magick, pyramid skrying, and Tattvic work. This deck does it all.

Powerful Magick.......2005-01-27
The Golden Dawn Enochian Skrying Tarot set and book is an
excellant path towards understanding and using Encochian
Magick. The book itself is a great step by step guide into
the Encochian Mysteries. A person new to Magick and Enochian
knowledge should first receive some basic occult training
before using a Tarot such as this, because once an Astral
Pathway is opened, it stays open, and the whisperings of angels and other astral beings that come from using such a system may disturb some people, banishings never remove the entire spectrum of astral contacts. Also-from other peoples writtings, it seems that the pyramids of the Watch-Towers are scryed with the idea of looking "down" at the top of the pyramids, it is far more powerful to, instead, look "up" at the pyramid, as if you were in the pyramid and looking out.
Very Promising Deck.......2004-03-06
The deck is great and the companion book covers so much it is definately worth a look. You can create the Enochian Tablets from the cards, then see what tattvic tides are surrounding you, then go skrying into the Enochian Pyramids. So much more.
My only complaint is the depiction of the Angels themselves. It looks like they used the method of each letter stands for a feature and built a picture of that entity from that, which is a great idea and fits perfectly with the Golden Dawn tradition. However, they appear very cartoonish like they cut and pasted it all together, I am sure visualization and actual working with the angels will make the image better.
Other than that I love my deck fits in my hands nicely. My first readings were using the Tattva side and they were clear and to the point, the way I have come to expect guidance from above. Hope this helps in your quest for knowledge. :-)

Great Condensed Version!.......2007-06-02
You can decide for yourself if the Golden Dawn Enochian Magic is the right Magic for you after reading this book. The book is a very condensed version of the Golden Dawn Magic but it is great reading, not dry at all and allows you to get your feet wet. If you decide to dive in then your best purchase would be The Complete Golden Dawn System of Magic by Israel Regardie. The book is pretty expensive but very much the manual of Golden Dawn Magic. The illustrations are exquisite and many are in color.
Thorougly Bad. But you can't fail to learn SOMETHING!.......1999-01-14
Bad: 1. Uses Golden Dawn set-up of the elements, something that does not correspond with Enochiana. 2. Uses wrong hexagrams in rituals. 3. Uses unicursal hexagrams, and claims them to be an old, but unused GD-creation.
Good: It has all the elemental tablets in the beginning of the book, so when i was going through some studies of mine, I didn't have to flip so many pages to find them. My thumbs are so happy.
Although: If you believe that the Golden Dawn tradition has the Complete And Only Anwsers To Everything, this might be a book for you. Else go buy Donald Tyson's Enochian Magick for beginners.

Speaking of angels.......2007-06-12
Like many books on occult topics, this one (by Skinner and Rankine) suffers from lack of a capable editor. Why this should be so prevalent I do not know. For example, however rigorous these authors' scholarship may be - and their scholarship is crucial to this volume's credibility (in that they have interpreted "many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore" in preparing this book) - on page 38 the authors state: "In the first page of the prologue to the present manuscript, mention is made of a writer called Du Bartas and his works... Guillaume De Salluste, Seigneur Du Bartas, lived from 1544-1592. In 1578 at the age of 34 he published his seminal work La Semaine; ou, Creation du Monde [sic] a hugely successful epic rhyming poetic work describing creation... La Semaine's seminal influence on his classic work The Inferno was acknowledged by Dante Alighieri." This last assertion is a schoolboy whopper as Dante Alighieri lived from 1265 to 1321. It is therefore very hard to imagine how a work penned and published over 200 years after his demise could possibly have been a "seminal influence" on Dante when he authored The Inferno.
Similarly, on page 45 we read that "[Baron] Somers was appointed Lord-Keeper, with the then very significant pension of 2000 [British pounds] a year..." The footnote to this sentence is, "Eighty pounds a year was considered a good income." However, this footnote was more apropos ten pages earlier on page 35, where we are told that Elias Ashmole offered Thomas Wales' son a job ... "for the then good salary of 80 [British pounds] per year." (Note also inconsistent use of "a year" and "per year" in referring to salary.)
On page 48, we see "the Nineteenth century" and immediately one paragraph below "the nineteenth century". Five pages later we see "the 17th to 20th centuries". There are also occasional simple typographical errors throughout.
Such things are factual and stylistic infelicities that any good editor would query before an otherwise fine volume like this went to press. No editor is acknowledged in the front matter, Skinner and Rankine apparently having chosen to omit that (particular) fact-checking step.
Generally, editorial lapses are distracting. But in volumes purporting to provide *precise* declensions and interpretations of occult phenomena, codes, and theory, such lapses are severe issues. Particularly is this the case in any volume attempting to deal authoritatively and in good faith with the Enochian tables and manuscripts of the Renaissance magus John Dee. Particularly when the authors' central work in this volume involves redaction and editing of four unpublished manuscripts.
Readers rely on authors, and authors should rely on editors. Particularly in this volume.
Beautiful Production.......2006-04-19
I am not that knowledgeable on the Enochian systems of magick, but bought this book having developed a high respect for other books by David Rankine (in particular his recent book on the Qabalah, Climbing the Tree of Life).
I have to admit to being rather awestruck by the beautiful way in which this book was produced, the qaulity of the paper and binding, the black and red text and the easy to read font. It sat and drooled over it for a while before reading much more than the title page, if only all magickal books could be produced like this one!
As a newcomer to this system I found the introduction section of the book a great help. It sets the scene nicely and provides great historical context for the material presented in the second part of the book.
It would be wrong for me to recommend this book on the basis of my lack of knowledge on enochian magicks, but for book collectors and for people who are interested in magickal history, this book should be high on your list of investments. It is worth every penny!
Mandatory material for serious Enochian practitioners.......2006-02-11
This volume does much to clarify aspects of Dee's magick that have long generated controversy, such as the correct directional assignments of the Tables and the specific invocational litanies appropriate to each type of Enochian Entity. Critics who claim there is nothing new here are mistaken in both their scholarship and the understanding of their practice. Skinner proves that enormous care was employed by whomever set out the Bonorum material, indicating that it might well reflect Dee's final and definitive organization. In addition, the G.D.'s secretive treatment of these texts testifies that they may well embody the master-key to Enochian work. No study of Enochian can be considered complete without this book!
Fantastic.......2005-07-29
This book is a must have on the shelf of any magickian. It is beautifully produced and will certainly impress.
A must read for students of the work of John Dee, Golden Dawn or Enochian magick. This book contains previously unpublished manuscripts, reproduced in full which make it of value to those of us who would like to work with original manuscripts but who can't afford trips to the various UK libraries where they are kept and who don't have access to private collections.
This is volume I and I am impatient for Volume II. The sign of a good book.
The Real Enochian from Dee's 16th century successors.......2005-07-02
From two previously unpublished 17th century manuscripts on Angel Magic, with instructions for their use as used by Wynn Westcott, Alan Bennett, Rev. Ayton, F L Gardiner and other members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn
The authors have discovered what happened to John Dee's most important manuscript, his book of personal angeilic invocations which he kept in Latin, and how it was preserved and developed by 17th century magicians into a full working magical system. How only a small part of this material reached the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in the 1880's. Even this was then suppressed by the chiefs of the Order, and it did not appear in Israel Regardie's monumental work on the Order rituals.
They have also traced how the classical techniques of invocation and evocation drawn from late mediaeval grimoires, were passed through John Dee's magic, via Elias Ashmole, to the aristocratic angel magicians of the 17th century, including some of the most powerful and influential figures in England.
In the 20th century many fanciful constructions were added to GD Enochian by writers such as Aleister Crowley, who were however all unaware of the completely developed system that already existed, and which is here published in full for the first time.

Book Description
Here Comes the Sun
"Many well-Known artist have touched people's hearts with their music but few have ever succeeded in touching people's souls. That was George's gift, and his story is described here with affection and taste. A wonderful book."
—Mia Farrow
"There is a palpable excitement to this book that made me feel I was there, with George, on his journey. He once said, 'I want to be God-conscious. That's really my only ambition, and everything else in life is incidental.' This extraordinary work provides nourishment for all who hunger, as he did, for that ultimate state of grace."
—Martin Rutte, coauthor of Chicken Soup for the Soul at Work
"I have fond memories of times George and I spent together, and Here Comes the Sun really captures him-not just as a Beatle but as an artist and a human being."
—Peter Frampton
"I love this book for many reason, most of all for its fair and sensitive portrayal of my brother's open-minded approach to spirituality. He saw Spirit as belonging to everyone, and that wonderful quality in him comes through here with dignity and insight."
—Louise Harrison
"Wonderful! A comprehensive portrait of a gentle driving force."
—Mike Pinder, founder of the Moody Blues
"A moving account of George Harrison's inner life and growth, this book not only provides fascinating details about his career and relations with his fellow Beatles but also insight into the deeper motives behind his music and spirt5iual search. A thoroughly enjoyable read."
—Klaus K. Klostermaier, Professor Religious Studies, University of Manitoba, and author of A Survey of Hinduism
Customer Reviews:
This book was very informative for a true Beatles fan!.......2007-09-22
I found this book to be very informative about George's life both as a Beatle and later in his solo career. It really got into the times of George's life after the break up of the group, almost on a daily basis. This book truthfully explained his beliefs and his desires to try to find that better life for everyone and everything. I thought I kind of understood what made Gearge tick but, this book really brought it all into focus. George was not only the "quite Beatle" but also an in depth and deep thinking, and believing, person. Truly a must read for all Beatle fans.
ENJOY!
A Must-Read for Baby Boomers!.......2007-02-10
Born on VJ-Day, I was one of the original Baby-Boomers. Until I read Here Comes the Sun, I had almost forgotten how good the 1960's were... and what a big part the Beatles played in most Baby-Boomers' lives. My gender and persona didn't allow me to participate in 'Beatlemania', but the Beatles, the Stones and Dylan were always my favorites back then. The best things about this book are it brought back the crazy, glorious and rock-filled 60's for me and taught me what a large contribution George Harrison made to the Beatles, Rock & Roll music in general and the worldwide Hare Krishna Movement.
An excellent, very moving read.
Full of Errors.......2006-07-29
I found this book very superficial for the most part. An exploration of George's spirituality is an interesting subject, but there were so many errors in this book that I began to question what was fact or or fiction in discussions of George's spiritual life.
Into the Mystic?.......2006-06-06
George Harrison is still the most mysterious Beatle, and I was excited to see a book that promised to shed more light on his lifelong devotion to Indian religion. Long after the famous 1968 retreat with the Maharishi, George remained a serious devotee of Indian music and philosophy; I was curious to know how that passion deepened after the Beatles broke up, when George was out of the public eye and free to follow his Eastern bliss.
Unfortunately, most of the book recycles information you can find in any standard Beatles biography, and it peters out just a few years into his solo career. The author's only real angle is that he knew a handful of members from the Hare Krishna temple George supported off and on throughout his life. It's disappointing to see George surrounded by these American ISCKON followers while his relationship with, say, Ravi Shankar goes almost totally unexplored; the author's tendency to make up dialogue instead of reporting what his interviewees actually said adds to the sense that there really isn't enough new information here to warrant a book.
Part of the problem too may lie with George. After his disastrous Dark Horse tour in 1974, when he found out his fans didn't want to follow a rock star (even an ex-Beatle) into the mystic, his interest in India seems to have softened. Friar Park and its massive garden became maybe the best expression of his later beliefs, an eclectic, private act of devotion far from the public eye. I wish this book had worked a little harder at pulling back the shrubs.
A modern Francis of Assisi/Buddha story.......2006-04-22
George Harrison was the Beatle with the "spiritual" reputation. Some even wrote him off as a nut case or someone who had succumbed to the cult of the Hare Krishnas. (He was a great benefactor and supporter of the group.)
Our western culture often "writes off" public figures who take spiritual turns in life, treating them as quacks, cranks, kooks and people who can no longer be taken seriously. In some ways that's what happened to "the quiet Beatle."
But in this book's sympathetic analysis, Harrison emerges as someone resembling a modern-day Buddha or St. Francis of Assisi (my comparison, not the author's). While Harrison wasn't born into wealth and privilege as Francis and the Buddha were, he did attain it in very young adulthood as a member of the Beatles "royal family." And like Francis and the Buddha, in his young adulthood he grew to struggle with questions of "Is that all there is?" because he had it all and still felt empty.
So he set out on the journey to find true holiness. This is the book that documents that journey.
If you seek dirt or gossip about George here, you won't find much. The book was written by Joshua Greene, a former Hare Krishna devotee who greatly respects and admires Harrison and actually spent time in his presence and knew Harrison's ISKCON friends. That given, Greene does manage to nicely walk the tightrope between saccharine and salacious in giving a seemingly accurate portrayal of both Harrison's strengths and weaknesses.
The author's familiarity with Hindu scriptures and spirituality is a great asset in this book. He beautifully weaves in a few stories from those scriptures to help the reader see and understand why those scriptures touched Harrison's soul and were his rock that supported him throughout his late- and post-Beatles life.
The book also expresses funny anecdotes about the intersection of spirituality, rock 'n roll, and humor in Harrison's life. In Harrison's Friar Park estate, between large pictures of his most revered gurus, he'd hung the famous depiction of dogs playing cards.
When Harrison tried to hold a 1969 Paris hotel press conference to help prevent French Krishna devotees from being hassled by police, reporters refused to listen. They kept asking stupid questions about mop top haircuts and whether the Beatles were really breaking up. The press had no interest in spiritual matters. It grew to a mob scene in which George and his good friend, an American from the London Hare Krishnas (complete with dhoti and shaved head) escaped by shimmying down a nearby laundry chute. They fell two stories, but landed safely in a pile of dirty linen, much to the astonishment of women folding towels in the basement. Reporters followed them down the chute, and in a scene that could have been out of _A Hard Day's Night_, Harrison and the Krishna devotee bolted out to a taxi, reporters in hot pursuit and throwing themselves before the taxi to prevent departure.
Harrison never was able to fully extract himself from that Beatlemania. The guy mostly just wanted to be left alone while still pursuing his music & gardening, but the "left alone" wasn't to be, so he turned to Hindu spirituality as his refuge, befriending fledgling Hare Krishna devotees in England and growing to be their major benefactor.
In one chapter, Greene weaves in a beautiful story from Hindu scripture in which Krishna is surrouded by the gopis--cowherd girls who would cry when Krishna left after singing to them. One cannot help seeing the similarity between gopis and groupies, and how stories about Krishna reverberated with Harrison's own life.
Not that Harrison saw himself as a god. Far from it. But others did--those who refused to see him in anything other than his bigger-than-life BEATLE/demigod persona. He hated that.
"We've got to show them we're more than these bodies," Harrison told a friend after a man approached him at a NYC sidewalk cafe and said, "Aren't you George Harrison?" and Harrison deadpanned, "No."
Altogether a gentle, beautiful book that leaves the reader understanding and empathizing with Harrison's life-long journey toward finding God. George always had very human questions and struggles in his spiritual journey, but he never stopped seeking.
