If you ain't never been to the ghetto..........2006-09-12
Welcome to the world of Deidra "Juicy" Brown, a welfare recipient from North Philly, who had no bones about how she did it. At 30, Juicy has teenagers who she smokes with, parties with and competes with for the hottest guy in the strip clubs. Although her parenting is less than desirable, Juicy does the best she knows to teach her kids the facts of living a bon-a-fide hood life. Will Juicy drive `em crazy or does she finally tone it down?
KaShamba Williams created an unforgettable character that you love to hate and pray someday somehow will change. Though unfortunate, readers will find that there maybe a Juicy around their way.
Introducing Precious Paine from B-more, she's weighed down by her mom's tragic life. Growing up, Precious was forced to see things deemed inappropriate for young children triggering a harden heart in the process. Precious has mastered a hustle and has made it her business to get what she could, how she wanted, without explaining anything to anyone. Is Precious' hardcore exterior being softened by real love pangs?
Thomas Long, one of the original novelists in Around the Way Girls, has a knack for using incessant female protagonists.
Let's join Lyric Crenshaw and Alicia Woods in New York. Lyric is a hard knock diva whose firsthand accounts taught her that love is for suckers and it's about getting out the winner. Alicia, her sappy co-worker, is all gushy when it comes to her love, Omar. But as the two friends interact more on a daily basis, Lyric's mind begins to believe that maybe love is worth a chance and Alicia becomes cynical, buying into all men being dogs. Can they both be right?
As always La Jill Hunt, another of the original authors and self-appointed dramatists, invites readers to walk on the softer side of the hood with a look at love.
Even though I'm not a real fan of short stories, I really enjoyed the compilation, especially KaShamba's misguided mother and La Jill's twisted love. Again, like the original one, I hate this cover and Urban Books needs to tighten up on their editing.
Stupid.......2006-08-03
This book is so ghetto. I brought this under the premonition that it would be a sequel to Around The Way Girl, by April Hunter, but it sure enough had nothing whatsoever to do with the first book. It was a good ghetto book but the title made me very upset. I wish I could get a refund!!!!!!!!!!
NICE GHETTO GIRL STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-06-09
GREAT BOOK!!! 3 GOOD STORIES INTO ONE BOOK! MY FAVORITE WAS JUICY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALSO GOOD BOOKS- THE COLDEST WINTER EVER AND B MORE CAREFUL
Chicks with Issues.......2006-01-19
This was definitaly betta than the first one. Juicy doesn't care what her kids do, what she does around them, or what they do with their life. As long as she gets money, and they don't hate on her game. Precious had it all, until her mother and father got hooked on drugs. Now she's boostn til she can't stop. Lyric has had her heart broken twice. She trusts no man and plays them all the same. Her father and mother are the only two people she feels know true love. She becomes friends with Alicia and that's where her life changes.
Top Rate Authors.......2006-01-18
I don't care what anybody has to say these are three of the best authors around. LaJill never disappoints,Thomas did very well, and Kashamba,Kashamba,Kashamba put not just her foot in this novel but her whole DANG body. Kashamba threw it down with Juicy Brown. Although some of Juicy's parenting ways I did not agree with she still was a fo' sho' Around the way girl who would lay down her life for her children. I was feeling Juicy so much that all my reading friends bought copies of this book just to read about Juicy. People in the hood may talk about a person of Juicy's caliber but one can't help but respect her. I hope to see a novel expanding on Juicy as well as LaJill's character's Alicia the scandalous one and Lyric. Trust you won't waste your money on this read.

Book Description
The sixth book in the ever popular Bridgerton family series, in which the widowed Francesca Bridgerton gets a second chance at love.
After only two years of marriage, her husband John, the Earl of Kilmartin, dies and Francesca Bridgerton is left tragically widowed at a young age. She turns to Michael Stirling, John's first cousin and closest friend, for comfort only to have him flee the country and abandon her out of fear of acting on his long–harboured forbidden love for her.
When Michael finally returns, everything is different and the air is charged with possibility. After four years of mourning John, Francesca is quite certain she will never love again, but thinks she can be content with someone else. However, Michael's passionate feelings toward Francesca have never wavered and he is willing to sacrifice everything to convince her that his love is strong enough for them both.

Everything was so much simpler
When he was wicked.
In every life there is a turning point.
A moment so tremendous, so sharp and breathtaking, that one knows one's life will never be the same. For Michael Stirling, London's most infamous rake, that moment came the first time he laid eyes on Francesca Bridgerton.
After a lifetime of chasing women, of smiling slyly as they chased him, of allowing himself to be caught but never permitting his heart to become engaged, he took one look at Francesca Bridgerton and fell so fast and hard into love it was a wonder he managed to remain standing. Unfortunately for Michael, however, Francesca's surname was to remain Bridgerton for only a mere thirty-six hours longer -- the occasion of their meeting was, lamentably, a supper celebrating her imminent wedding to his cousin.
But that was then
Now Michael is the earl and Francesca is free, but still she thinks of him as nothing other than her dear friend and confidant. Michael dares not speak to her of his love
until one dangerous night, when she steps innocently into his arms, and passion proves stronger than even the most wicked of secrets

Depressing.......2007-06-17
Although i do love this author, i must say this book is awfully depressing, i mean first she looses her husband, and then finally when she finds love again the hero has malaria? and in the end your left wondering whether or not he will be healthy and whether or not they will ever have a baby. all in all i was quite dissapointed in this one, because i feel the basic storyline has alot of promise.
Michael, Michael, Michael! *sigh* What a man!.......2007-06-12
This book really deserves 3 1/2 stars in my opinion, but I couldn't bump it up to four. I think I'm in love with Michael Stirling. Francesca? Not so much. She was just too wishy washy. I don't mean about her grief, or her ambivalence about developing romantic feelings for Michael. Those are both understandable. No, what I had a real problem with was that she was prepared to marry any random man she had lukewarm feelings for so that she could have a baby, but was adamantly opposed to marrying her "best friend" -- even after she has sex with him. (It had been FOUR YEARS since her husband died, so no one would think she'd just jumped over to the next Earl, not to mention that if she was already coming out of mourning and looking for a husband/father, why wouldn't she consider her best friend as the story progressed?)
Speaking of having sex with him, the first scene was nice. I liked it. I liked where he told her about "when he was wicked". It was cute and sexy. Small problem with it, though -- a confirmed rake, with a reputation that has lasted despite a four year absence, found that "even he wasn't that talented" when it came to having sex on a table? Small point, but still. Scene in the gardeners hut was better from Michael's standpoint, but Francesca was completely out of character. She says that she was married for two years to "a man with healthy and active desires", and she'd even "kissed John there once or twice" but had never been on top? And the relatively tame positions that Michael described were things "she just didn't know...were possible"? None of that rang true, and it detracted from the relationship she was supposed to have had with John, as it made it seem he couldn't have been very... creative in bed. I thought Michael stayed in character during that scene, though, as his desire (near desperation) for her is evident, most so when she says "Aren't things sweeter when we're forced to wait for them?" followed by "'You have no idea,' he said roughly." That just made my heart clench for him.
Many reviewers question why Michael would be in love with her, since there was little evidence of her wit, humor, etc. etc. in this book. Even if you don't read any of the other books to get a feel for her, they are described as best friends for 2 years, so we can surely assume that while he may have been "in love" with her on first sight, it was the ensuing 2 years of close friendship that made his love genuine.
If this book were just about Michael, I would give it 5 stars. He's angsty, guilt ridden, and brooding. Oh, I just love that kind of hero. I love the fact that he knows that he's in love with her. Another reviewer found it unbelievable that he wouldn't have even thought about marrying Francesca until Colin pointed it out, and said that was unrealistic. I'm not sure I agree with that, as he would have forced himself (for at LEAST the 2 years of her marriage and a full year after for mourning) to not even consider it, and then he was away for 3 additional years. It would have been something he couldn't even consider because, believing it would be impossible, it would cause him tremendous pain. I love the fact that he keeps trying to convince himself that any piece of her he can have is enough, even as with every piece he gets, he wants more. Then feels selfish, because he recognizes how blessed he is to get even a little of what he truly wants.
Generally I dislike books that play on emotions. I don't WANT to cry when I read a book. I'm a bit embarrassed to say I DID cry at this one, but I don't really regret it -- I still liked the book. I cried over his anguish after he finally revealed his love and he described in some detail what the feelings were doing to his heart. I cried when Francesca, after finally realizing that she DOES love Michael, goes to John's grave to discuss it with him. I cried mostly, though, at the very end when John's mother gives her blessing to them. The last line will stay with me for a long time, I know. Since another person already included it in their review, I won't feel too bad about putting it in mine -- it was just so touching. "And I hope you will not think me foolish when I also extend my thanks. Thank you, Michael, for letting my son love her first." Wow.
Different but good.......2007-06-06
This book has a very different tone of great seriousness and in depth emotional thought compared to Julia's other novels. At first i wondered whether Julia could pull off successfully a book that has so many layers. How could i have ever doubted her? This book was fantastic and as a reader you can really connect with the characters. However, if you are someone who does not enjoy reading a character's personal feelings in depth, then this book is not for you.
WONDERFUL read!!! .......2007-04-24
I loved this romance because it in many ways was unlike all others. Instead of our heroine being an innocent miss, she was a lovely widow who had loved her late husband. But she is given a second chance a love!
She is Francesca Bridgerton, the sixth of eight siblings. Her story is also the sixth book in Julia Quinn's series about the Bridgerton siblings. Francesca has always been a little bit different than her brothers and sisters. She is quieter, more reserved, but not necessarily shy either. She has a quite wit. She has chestnut hair like the rest of her family, but unlike them has fierce blue eyes.
He is Michael Sterling, an infamous rake of course, who has grown up with his cousin as if they were brothers. The only difference is that his cousin is an Earl. Michael has sleek black hair and astonishing silver eyes.
He was in love with one woman that could never be his...Francesca. He saw her a few hours before she was to marry his cousin, John Sterling, Earl of Kilmartin, and fell completely head of heels. He does not only lust after her, but truly enjoys her wit, humor, and He was forced to watch her and his cousin happily married, wishing her could have her. He never tells either of them how he feels because he feels so guilty it would betray John, his best friend and `brother.' Until one night while escorting Francesca on a walk, they return to the house to find tragedy. John has died and Michael is now the Earl of Kilmartin. He never wanted anything that John had except Francesca and now everything is his, excluding her. Francesca comes to him for support, but he can't face her. What is John to do? He flees to India!
He comes back four years later right when Francesca is deciding that it is time to look for a new husband. He is completely still in love with her and she knows nothing of it.
It takes quite a while to get to the good stuff at this point. But it seemed right that it took awhile. Francesca was happy with her late husband and doesn't want to betray his memory. Of course, neither does Michael. It would have seemed unnatural for them to not deal with their past. After they finally come to terms with everything that is between them, magic happens!
This book seemed a little deeper than the rest of Julia Quinn's books and even a little bit darker. There is humor. There is romance. But with unconventional twists! Since Francesca isn't a blushing miss, she can go and come as she pleases and is much more free. Since she was in love with her late husband, there are many emotions to get past to be able to even think of Michael.
I loved this book and would recommend it to any. Julia Quinn does an excellent job holding her own against her earlier books. Splendid and The Viscount Who Loved Me are quite possibly her best, but When He Was Wicked makes an excellent addition.
A passionate, witty, and heart-winning novel of deep, true love.......2007-04-05
When He Was Wicked is the sixth book in the wonderful Bridgerton family series and again a winner.
Francesca Bridgerton, having lost her beloved husband John to a sudden and unexpected death, needs the emotional support of their longtime best friend, Michael Stirling. Little does she know that Michael has been madly in love with her since even before her marriage--and that the main focus of his life is to prevent her from discovering the truth of his feelings for her at all cost.
Julia Quinn has again fashioned a passionate, witty, and heart-winning novel of deep, true love. Here she excels beautifully at the difficult task of showing how "Frannie" and Michael develop an extraordinary love without and disrespect to the memory of John, a man whom they both deeply care for and respect.
As usual, Quinn takes the reader on a passionate, thrilling, and funny ride through the lives of two fully-developed characters who were clearly meant for each other. Their thoughts, emotions, struggles, and triumphs become the reader's own in this thoroughly enjoyable novel.

New York Times best-selling author Julia Quinn is a RITA Award finalist and has been profiled in Time Magazine. Her popular Bridgerton Family series is Regency era romance at its best. Michael Stirling and his cousin John, the Earl of Kilmartin, are as close as brothers. However, Michael is secretly in love with Johns wife Francesca Bridgerton. When John suddenly dies, Michael is wracked with guilt and pain. Even though he is determined to remain simply Francescas friend and confidant, the temptation is far too great.

high energy, fun tale.......2007-05-10
This book was written with such humor! Bronwyn is cursed and cannot tell the truth. It isn't that she just says the opposite of what she means, she concocts elaborate stories that just make the reader grin. The adventurers meet mermaids, a talking tapeworm, wizards, and a talking swan. Lots of things talk in this book. I think this book would be wonderful for young adults, but it is still entertaining for any age.
There are some odd errors not caught by editing in the later part of the book. My copy is from the first print. I'm guessing these mistakes were caught in later editions.
GREAT! I love this book!.......1998-05-26
I love books that're quest fantasy, but the usual serious dry way authors tell it is boring. I want humor, a kind of tongue-in-cheek thing, and Bronwyn's Bane is the perfect book for that. If you're sick and tired of blood, guts, and gore fantasy, try this!
A fantastic book.......1997-08-08
I cannot wait to read more of Elizabeth Scarborough's work after finishing "Bronwyn's Bane" a few days ago. "Bronwyn's Bane" is a delightful story of a princess' curse, told with
a mesmerizing tongue-in-cheek style, reminiscent of the "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series.
What makes Scarborough's characters so fascinating is their dry, quirky wit, and their talent for stumbling into one troublesome situation after another. Scarborough's royalty, rather than being
elegant, sage and lofty, is verbose, well-meaning
but clumsy. All of her characters -- mermaids, gypsies, princess swans, ogre sorceresses -- are endearing, charming characters, and have great hearts -- despite the fact that they often get on each other's nerves. Scarborough also has one of the best and most foresightful imaginations I have encountered. Scarborough, for example, connects omnivorous sea-monsters that come ashore in the dark (terrorizing the islanders) with the islander's toxic contamination of the waters, which in fact created the giantic horrors. Ms. Scarborough has an excellent hand at very effective and thought-provoking irony, as well as an understanding of wit and human nature.
"Bronwyn's Bane" is an ingenious,tongue-in-cheek tapestry of imagination, and I am delighted to have found Ms. Scarborough's work. I look forward to reading as many of her other works that I can find.

Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner is the essential primer from one of the best known authors on Wicca. Focusing on the importance of individualism in your spiritual path, Cunningham explains the very basics of Sabbats (holy days), ceremonies, altars, and other nuts and bolts of Wicca that a solitary practitioner may have trouble finding elsewhere. While Wicca shouldn't be your sole point of reference when considering Wicca as your way of life, it is one of the best starting points. --Brian Patterson
Book Description
Cunninghams classic introduction to Wicca is about how to live life magically, spiritually, and wholly attuned with nature. It is a book of sense and common sense, not only about magick, but about religion and one of the most critical issues of today: how to achieve the much needed and wholesome relationship with our Earth. Cunningham presents Wicca as it is today: a gentle, Earth-oriented religion dedicated to the Goddess and God. Wicca also includes Scott Cunninghams own Book of Shadows and updated appendices of periodicals and occult suppliers.

A great book for the beginner especially an isolated beginner. Very easy to understand and personalize to meet the needs of the solitary wiccan.
Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner.......2007-10-03
One of my first books that introduced me to the realm of Wicca. I love the easy-to-read format that Mr. Cunningham used and the breakdown of terms for the average reader to understand. I myself do not have access to a coven so this was a geat book to get started with.
Excellent For Beginners!.......2007-09-20
Yes, this is your typical Wicca 101 book. But I must say Mr Cunninham's is one of the best, if not THE best! If you're a beginner of the Wiccan path, this is an excellent starter book!
Fantastic!.......2007-09-09
This is a great book! I recommend that if you are looking it to Wicca take a look at books by Scott Cunningham.
Non Fiction.......2007-09-03
Wicca : a Guide for the Solitary Practitioner, is what it says, quite practically. It goes into detail of the basics of that particular religion, with rituals, accoutrements, observances, stuff to get and to use, all that sort of thing. It is particularly aimed at those who are by themselves, and have no friends or like minded others around.

Other Books.......2007-09-03
Living Wicca is Scott Cunnigham's followup to this Wicca : A Guide For the Solitary Practitioner. If you just want to read a bit about the religion and how people practice it, you really don't need this book, just get the first one and it will satisfy your interest. This is more for those who are definitely interested and want to read more for themselves.
A complete book for newbies.......2007-07-17
I'm a wiccan newbie and this book (as secondary for cunninham's: wicca a guide for the...) is the best introduction i could ever had. But i can see that wicca is so ironicaly new that almost every writter has it's own vision about the philosophy and the craft, I think you have to be attuned with cunningham to understand him. Concerning wicca, not every writter is for every reader, cunningham is very understandable and universal though.
Good for those with more experience.......2007-04-15
I bought this book as an early practitioner, and wound up giving it away. The concepts were too much for me to grasp. I read Cunningham's first book, along with many others, and felt that I was ready for this one after a year. There's many concepts that are more advanced than an early student is ready for. Advanced students who like Cunningham's work will enjoy it more.
No better than the first.......2006-11-10
Much like Cunningham's first guide for the solitary Wiccan, this book was disappointing. There is very little of practical use, just a lot of hypothetical philosophy and a few contrived chants. Maybe that does it for some people, but for those who, there again, don't live in the middle of a secluded woods with unlimited access to natural items, the book offers nothing.
Excellent additional learning.......2006-07-18
Having read Wicca for the Solitary Practioner I found this excellent reinforcement. Plus Scott's attitude is so practical and even.

Solitary Druid.......2007-05-13
Interesting fantasy. The actual druidic beliefs are unknown since they left no written accounts of their ceremonies & beliefs.
Not for the beginning Druid researcher.......2006-11-19
I found this book to be quite narrow in its perspective of Druidry, and if I was new to the study of the Druid path, I think it might have even turned me away. I feel that Ellison promotes his style of practice as a doctrine - that this is "the best" way to do everything. I also found his presentation of historic Celtic lifestyles, such as homosexuality and polyamory to be interesting, but inappropriately placed at the very beginning of the book. I am not new to these lifestyles by any means, but it almost gave a feeling like he was recruiting/promoting them. I don't think of the ADF as a sex cult, but presenting this as early as he did, with several links included, made me wonder.
If you are looking for an entry-level book on the modern revival druid movement, I think you would gain more unbiased information in a more readable format from Greer's "The Druidry Handbook".
Many blessings on your quest.
Good Book for Pagan Personal Communion through Druidry . .......2006-09-17
This book is very good one concerning the Druid outlook, and the personal keltic relationship one has with Earth-Worship.I would use it in addition to your Druid knowledge already. It's an interesting look into one man's Keltic journey and his own credo concerning Druidry. It's not the weightiest book on the solitudinarian Druid topic, yet it's a good companion book. This druid high-priest has not handed-down a "venire facias" ,allowing an ADF clerical review of this unique work.Yet,I think such a study, by the druid sacerdotalists, would approve of its publication 100% .Good book! -Updated-Dec.17.06.+ I would also say that this book is by a Southern Anglo-Irish gentelman ,who has a profound keen interest and sound understanding of 'Druidry'.There are not that many personal accounts about the 'Solitary Druid' out-there.This is a fine story, albeit somewhat hastily organised.People who mock it,haven't tried reading it first. When is 'Ian Corrigan' writing his book, and if he is what will the title be? Ian does indeed have some useful booklets published,www.rosencomet.com + Bright Blessings for Yule!
Some good information, but not extremely organized. . . .......2006-08-11
I did enjoy this books section on the Druid holidays and ritual. Although the ritual format is a tad dry, it gives many solitary practitioner's a starting point, which I'm sure was the author's intention. The reason I give it only three stars is because the rest of the book was laid out and organized kind of poorly, and I didn't walk away from this book with a huge amount of new information. It also covers only the ADF perspective, which is one of many. I would recommend reading it though, if you are interested in ADF style Druidry.
intresting book.......2006-07-28
A little to out in left field for my taste but I used it to write my druid paper with

The first Pagan/Wiccan book I ever read..........2005-11-02
I had so many epiphanies while reading this book, it was just amazing, especially the passages about The Holy Grail, and Faerie blood still running through the veins of some.
The way the book is written made me feel like the letters were addressed to me. It seemed very personal.
I go back to the book often for reference, as it contains much good information which I have hilighted, and also suggestions for rituals.
Not the typical Wicca 101.......2002-07-26
This book doesn't go through the typical Wicca 101 type books, it doesn't offer spells nor does it tell you everything about Wicca. It offers the knowledge of one woman as she relays her beliefs via written letters to two people interested in Wicca. It's a very good book.
An awesome book.......2002-05-08
Writen in old fashioned style. Containing letters to a subject who wants to learn of Wicca. Rae Beth gives alot of good helpful information, and uses a unique way of doing it. This book kept my interest, and years later, I would still highly recommend it!
perhaps not for the beginner's basics.......2001-12-26
This book is set up in an interesting way: the 'chapters' consist of letters from the author to two (and then one) aspiring witches. While they all had good information in them, it wasn't what I was expecting.
A lot of what Ms. Beth gives us is her own personal Sabbatt celebrations. While it was interesting to see what kind of symbolism she uses, and it was helpful in forming my own Sabbatt rituals, this book sat on my bookshelf gathering dust for a long while until I felt that I had enough basic knowledge to actually cast a formal circle and do a Sabbatt ritual.
I'd say this book is for intermediate beginners, not those who are just beginning on the path. Although, it does take you through the wheel of the year quite nicely and it really could help to open someone's eyes as to what is going on in the natural world during the year. This is not the first book to start with.
Take what you need...........2001-10-20
THE WICCAN PATH by Rae Beth consists of a series of letters Rae Beth wrote to two friends who wanted to know more about Wicca. Her correspondence is not very different from exchanges I have had with various friends over the years -- a Christian Scientist friend who explained her religion to me via phone calls and letters, a Quaker friend who explained her religion to me over various meetings for coffee, and a Morman male friend I saw for over a year when I was younger (and did not marry) who explained his religion to me.
I read voraciously about religion--histories, documents, letters, books, and other material. Although I was raised Christian in a Protestant-Catholic household, my mother and maternal grandmother attended seances every Friday night, and my maternal grandfather was descended from Dutch Jews. Knowledge of my family's mixed religious affiliations caused me a great deal of concern when I was a child because I was sent to Catholic schools where I was taught only RCs could enter heaven. I have tried to understand other religions ever since.
Like other reviewers of Rae Beth's book, I have read Scott Cunningham, Raven Grimassi, Silver Ravenwolf, and many others and I enjoy what they have written. Rae Beth is the first Wicca who "spoke" to me on a personal level however. These days, I find myself growing closer and closer to this ancient system of beliefs. Wicca is a lovely practice that operates from the perspective of attraction, not promotion.
I can continue to celebrate the holidays I grew to love as a child -- Father Christmas or Santa Claus; the Green Man (who may be Robin Hood or the Holly King); The Lady (Mary for me and Kuan Yin for others); Jesus (the Lord and the great Magus -- a Hindu friend tells me she believes Jesus one of the incarnations of Shiva); the Great Spirit; and all my saints who are not lost including Saint Anthony who has helped me recover more than one lost thing and who probably had previous incarnation as some deity or other. I believe in a higher power, and I don't think anyone has the final answer (well Shirley McLean may).
This is a wonderful soothing book written by a gentle soul who is fully in touch with her own nature and the natural world around us. The best part of Rae Beth's discussion for me is in part two where she explains how to go into a trance. As she puts it, you can do it many ways, even with rosary beads.
