Book Description
Michael Connellys most famous character, Detective Harry Bosch, has been thrilling readers for a decade. Now available in one omnibus edition are the three books that brought him to life. First introduced in The Black Echo, Bosch hunts the brutal murderer of a Vietnam buddy. Then, in The Black Ice, a narcotics officers disappearance sends Bosch on a trail of murders leading from Hollywood Boulevard to Mexicos dusty back alleys. In The Concrete Blonde, Bosch must hunt down the Dollmaker, a macabre serial killer, before he strikes again. Together, these three novels are the perfect way to discover, or rediscover, one of our most fascinating and well-loved sleuths. A Darkness More Than Night, also featuring Harry Bosch, is a New York Times bestseller and a national bestseller. Connellys sales continue to rise. Since its January 2001 publication, A Darkness More Than Night has shipped more than 235,000 copies. The Black Echo won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Connelly has also won a Nero Wolfe prize, a Macavity Award, and an Anthony Award.

Wonderful writer.......2007-05-14
Michael Connelly is an incredible mystery writer. The plots are well-done, the characters believable. I would highly recommend any of the Harry Bosch mystery novels.
Great stories.......2007-05-12
Another hit by Michael Connelly. I love his Harry Bosch books, the depth of character, attention to detail and beautifully tailored plots make for a completely enjoyable read. This one is great because you get three complete Bosch books for the price of one. Of course, if you like to lie in bed and read the 3 in 1 format makes it really heavy to hold up, but it's worth the effort.
I'm a writer myself so I know how hard it is to turn out such consistently great tales. If you'd like to check out my book click on The Towers Of Greed and if you buy it please buy it from seller Whitebear54 since that's me, the author.
Connelly.......2007-02-12
As a Connelly addict I have to say this is the place to begin...the beginning. One read and you too will be hooked.

Bosch is just the best.......2007-09-20
I love this series. I started at the beginning and have enjoyed every book. This is no exception. Bosch is a great character and Connelly knows how to write a detective novel, no doubt about it. The plots are always interesting and never predictable or trite.
Connelly is A MASTER!.......2007-08-17
I found Michael Connelly just recently on recommendation of another author, and I am glad I did. Mr. Connelly is a talented, entertaining, and masterful writer. His concise dialogue and attention to details and emotions make all of his novels outstanding reads. This one is no exception. If you are an avid reader, mystery fan, or are just looking for something to read, you cannot do wrong with a Michael Connelly novel....especially the Harry Bosch series. Harry is a great character, and Connelly is a superb writer.
Classic Connelly.......2007-06-14
I feel lucky! Why? Because having discovered Michael Connelly only recently and so far reading just three of his novels, it means that there are sixteen more to go! What a treat, especially if they come close to matching this one. It's the third in the Harry Bosch series and was written in 1994 - but don't for one minute think that it's out of date, that the best stories are the newest ones. This is as good as anything I've read this year, the only book that has matched it is The Lincoln Lawyer, by the same author.
It does, however, remind me vaguely of two other novels of times past: Mark Billingham's Scaredy Cat and Mo Hayder's The Treatment. I'll say nothing more other than quote the punchline from the cover of Scaredy Cat - "Serial killers normally work alone". But The Concrete Blonde is in fact heavily built around a courtroom drama that spreads its full length, because Bosch (or more correctly the LAPD) is being sued by the widow of a man he killed four years earlier, a man he was sure was a multiple murderer known as the Dollmaker. The plaintiff has a hot-shot female lawyer on a big retainer to represent her case for the prosecution in this civil (i.e. not criminal) trial, while Bosch must depend on a less-than-impressive, overweight and sweaty youngster who is paid the same salary whether he wins or loses. As the trial progresses, the reader becomes more and more resigned to an inevitable loss for the defendant, but the conclusion is anything but predictable.
Running in parallel to the events in the courtroom, Bosch is investigating a new case that bears worryingly similar hallmarks to the works of the deceased Dollmaker. A new body is found, and as the investigation develops, not only the reader but even Bosch himself start wondering if he shot the right man four years ago. I had at least two suspects in mind and oddly enough Bosch chose these two as well, although I wondered if this was clever reader manipulation on the part of the author. In the end I was caught out, it was someone not even on my `might be' list. I have to admit that I enjoy courtroom theatrics, and even though Bosch didn't really care if he lost, Connelly still manages to make the trial gripping and sometimes moving as well, as unknown secrets about Bosch's life are cold-bloodedly made public. Characterisation is of a very high standard throughout, not least of course that of the tortured soul that is Hieronymus Bosch. Strongly recommended.
Harry Bosch and his grim world.......2007-06-10
Quite an absorbing story. Michael Connelly IS indeed a great writer. His characters are quite edgy. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to read a gripping, suspenseful story.
Outstanding........2007-06-06
What a piece of work! Mr Connelly did it again brilliantly. One of the best works on the Harry Bosch's series (probably the best). If you're looking for a book that keeps you reading by the hours, this is your best choice. And let Harry Bosch, Sylvia, Edgar, the Dollmaker and the Follower do the service for your entertainment. You just have to sit and enjoy the reading.
Book Description
The Concrete Blonde:
This high-voltage thriller opens with Homicide Detective Bosch battling charges as the chief defendant in a civil suit against the LAPD. The family of a notorious serial killer whom Bosch shot during an arrest four years ago has accused Bosch of killing the wrong man. This allegation becomes horrifyingly plausible when a new murder occurs with all the hallmarks of the dead slayer's style.
The Last Coyote:
Harry attacked his commanding officer and is suspended indefinitely, pending a psychiatric evaluation. At first he resists the LAPD shrink, but finally recognizes that something is troubling him and has for a long time. In 1961, when Harry was twelve, his mother, a prostitute, was brutally murdered with no one ever accused of the crime.
Trunk Music:
Back on the job after an involuntary leave of absence, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch is ready for a challenge. But his first case is a little more than he bargained for. It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range - what looks like "trunk music," a Mafia hit.

Book Description
With epic sweep and breathtaking adventure, Sara Donati’s bestselling saga of an Early American family’s struggle for survival in the Northeast wilderness continues with the story of an indomitable woman and an unforgettable journey of redemption across a young nation threatened by the flames of war.
The year is 1812 and Hannah Bonner has returned to her family’s mountain cabin in Paradise. But Nathaniel and Elizabeth Bonner can see that Hannah is not the same woman as when she left. For their daughter has come home without her husband and without her son…and with a story of loss and tragedy that she can’t bear to tell. Yet as Hannah resumes her duties as a gifted healer among the sick and needy, she finds that she is also slowly healing herself. Little does she realize that she is about to be called away to face her greatest challenge ever.
As autumn approaches, news of the latest conflict with Britain finds the young men of Paradise—including eighteen-year-old Daniel Bonner—eager to take up arms. Against their better judgment, Nathaniel and Elizabeth must let him go, just as they must let his twin sister Lily, a stubborn beauty, pursue her independence in Montreal. But on the eve of the War of 1812, an unexpected guest arrives from Scotland: It is the Bonners’ distant cousin, the newly widowed Jennet Scott of Carryckcastle. Far from home, Lily and Jennet will each learn the price of pursuing their dreams and the possibility of true love.
But it’s Hannah herself who must risk everything once more—this time to save Daniel, who’s been taken prisoner by the British. As the distant thunder of war threatens Paradise, Hannah may learn to live—and maybe love—again in one final act of courage, duty, and sacrifice.
A gifted writer, a master storyteller, and a first-rate historian, Sara Donati has written a powerful, poignant, and movingly romantic novel that chronicles the lives and adventures of a family as compelling and unforgettable as any in American fiction.

Another Donati gem........2007-03-13
For any readers who haven't indulged in Sara Donati's series of books about Elizabeth and Nathaniel Bonner, this is one of the later books in the series. It's a fine book to read without having read the others, but
it's much more informative to start with the introductory novel. Sara Donati is one of those writers who is gifted at writing historical fiction.
Read This Series.......2007-01-09
Do yourself a favor and read this series. It's great fun without the guilt because it's a love and adventure saga rolled inside a history lesson. I actually missed the characters when I finished the last book and I can only hope Sara Donati is hard at work on the next installment. Start at the beginning so you know who everyone is and how they influence the story as it progresses.
1. Into the Wilderness
2. Dawn on a Distant Shore
3. Lake in the Clouds
4. Fire Along the Sky
5. Queen of Swords
Enjoy.....
More of the adventure.......2006-11-15
I do admit that if you haven't read the preceding three books in this fabulous series, this probably won't be as meaningful to you as it would be to a devotee, but, having siad that, perhaps I can convince some readers who wouldn't normally be fans of an historic epic, to start at the beginning..in fact I'm almost envious of what you have ahead! This story continues lives of the Bonner family, their neighbours and friends who live in a settlement high in the mountains of New York State. Elizabeth and her husband Nathaniel's younger son, Daniel, has been captured by the British forces and held prisoner on Ile de Noix, just over the Canadian border. Nathaniel's cousin, Lady Jennet, has arrived from Scotland to marry Luke, Nathanie's son by an early romance and, accompanied by Hannah, Nathaniel's half Indian daughter from his first wife, and Luke, travels incognito to the Island, in an attempt to rescue Daniel who has been badly injured in the fighting. If there seems to be too many half sisters and brothers to take in, it is all perfectly clear in the reading of the book which, while partly ends in happiness, also begins another episode which continues on to the next volume, Queen of Swords, which has just been released and which I'm happily devouring at a great rate!
Donati recalls she's writing for the romance genre.......2006-06-22
Really... a 4.5 review, but I rounded up for the stars. This is a fun 'escapism' read - not too thick on history or romance, and delightfully thin on military action.
I don't typically think of myself as a fan of romantic historical fiction - bodice ripping or 'fair maiden meets warrior' sorts of books - but occasionally I find books that have more meat to them than what one thinks of in this genre.
As a fan of Diana Gabaldon (particularly the first 3), I was pleased to find Sara Donati's series. Into the Wilderness (her first) caught my attention so much that I simply went out and bought the remaining three published thus far. Dawn on a Distant Shore and Lake in the Clouds were somewhat disappointing, and I began Fire Along the Sky out of a sense of obligation. What I discovered is that Donati gave up attempts to write 'action' and returned to her romance roots. The result was a much more satisfying book.
While lean on historical accuracies, this book delivers if you are looking for an entertaining story with some sexual tension and interesting characters. It is simply a very enjoyable read - nothing more. Just fun!
The drawbacks are that the story does build upon events from books One through Three, and readers will be far better informed if they've read the series in order than if they attempt to pick up here. Over the years Elizabeth Bonner's character has become slightly annoying, and Curiosity Freeman is practically a cliche. I missed Nathaniel Bonner as well; he's a bit too far in the background in this book.
That said, the characters of Lily Bonner and her cousin Jennet Carryck are more interesting. Further, Donati delivers realistic portrayals of how grief and mourning may rob the very life of a person when writing Hannah Bonner and Daniel Bonner, and how their painful silent inward anguish pains and haunts all who love them.
The draw in this story is the romance between Lily and Simon. Does it come out of nowhere as other readers mention? Yes. But you won't care after a bit. It simmers, nearly boils, then cools and simmers some more... and repeats that cycle again. The presentation of their growing relationship - particulalry their sexual one - is a bit 20th Century, but that just made it fun to read. Donati skillfully stokes anticipation, and brings back memories of feeling giddy. Enjoy!
This author's work is basically a rip off of another much better writer........2006-04-21
I have read her first three books and they were pretty good but very familiar. I think she tends to copy her style from another well known series writer. Her work has gotten progressively worse from book to book. Basically read Into the Wilderness and possibly Dawn on a Distant Shore but stop there. If you want a great series you can sink your teeth into, read Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series and Dorothy Dunnetts Lymond Chronicles, they are vastly superior.

THE MOST CLOSELY GUARDED SECRET OF THE WESTERN WORLD IS ABOUT TO BE REVEALED -- AND YOU WILL NEVER SEE CHRISTIANITY IN THE SAME LIGHT AGAIN.
In a remarkable achievement of historical detective work that is destined to become a classic, authors Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince delve into the mysterious world of the Freemasons, the Cathars, the Knights Templar, and the occult to discover the truth behind an underground religion with roots in the first century that survives even today. Chronicling their fascinating quest for truth through time and space, the authors reveal an astonishing new view of the real motives and character of the founder of Christianity, as well as the actual historical -- and revelatory -- roles of John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene. Painstakingly researched and thoroughly documented, The Templar Revelation presents a secret history, preserved through the centuries but encoded in works of art and even in the great Gothic cathedrals of Europe, whose final chapter could shatter the foundation of the Christian Church.

Interesting read.......2007-02-15
I enjoyed it. I have a fascination with religion, especially Christianity and how it developed - in contrast to the form it has taken today. I've lent my copy out to a few people and still haven't got it back yet! So if you want a copy, get it on Amazon!
Another Templar Tale?.......2007-02-13
Intriguing exploration. However, the Magdalene legend and Priory story are more likely to be Masonic fabrications. Those searching for something closer to the truth might consider: 'Christ Conspiracy' (Acharya) and 'That Old Time Religion' (Maxwell).
A must read.......2007-01-14
After reading "The Goddess in the Gospels" I went to my Jesuit university's library. Under the subject category of "heretics" I found "The Templar Revelation." The book proposes that there was a unique relationship among Jesus, John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene. The authors also claim that the Roman Catholic Church suppressed this information by suppressing the people who they considered heretics and suppressing their texts.
The authors claim that Jesus was a disciple of John the Baptist, and that John's teachings were similar to the Egyptian myths of Isis and Osiris. To support this claim, the authors point out how many stories in the New Testament are adaptations of those found in other religious traditions. In addition, Jesus is one in a line of many dying-and-rising gods. Another claim is that Mary Magdalene had a sacred sexual relationship with Jesus, in keeping with their religious beliefs, and as his "initiator" into the sacred mysteries had an equal relationship to Jesus.
Lots of Filler, but the Meat is Good.......2007-01-03
This book, referenced by the fictional work "The DaVinci Code", stands alongside "Holy Blood Holy Grail" (Baigent, Lee) as one of the seminal books that throw back the veil on the cult of the Magdelane and the pagan roots of Christianity. It is not easy reading; the writing is more akin to an academic paper than to a pop non-fiction treatise on the subject. (The comprehensive bibliography and appendix attest to as much.) The revelations are startling. The implications, even for people who consider themselves agnostic or cafeteria christians, have the potential to shake your very core.
IF YOU'VE READ THE DAVINCI CODE AND HOLY BLOOD-HOLY GRAIL.......2006-12-15
Now you should read The Templar Revelation! If you were titillated when you read The DaVinci Code, and fascinated by Holy Blood-Holy Grail, you'll equally enjoy The Templar Revelation. Granted, some of the material is speculative, but much of it is not, as you've already learned from the two previous books I mention. This is the capstone to the trilogy, worth your time and money. You'll read it more than once. I've read it three times.
