That Quail Robert will surely touch your heart..........2007-09-04
"That Quail Robert" by Margaret Stanger is a delightful book. It is a true story of a retired couple who find an abandoned quail egg and hatch it under a boudoir lamp on their kitchen counter. The quail grew up as a cherished & very willing member of it's human family. Robert also became quite a local star of sorts. Robert later turns out to be a 'Roberta' when she lays one perfect little egg. Robert's family tried to release her, but Robert chose to stay with his human family. It almost seems as if she knew she had to stay to teach her humans about love and life. Robert ends up deeply touching most any human whom she came upon.
Anyone that loves animals would enjoy this story. This book is also well suited for young readers, as well as adults. I laughed at all of Robert's little habits. Then I cried when she finally put her head under her wing and fell asleep for the last time.
This book will remain cherished in my book collection, hopefully to share with future generations.
Oh, that Quail, Robert!.......2007-08-27
I am currently raising five Quail chicklets and a friend recommended this book. We have been reading it at the beach and have to take many "reflection" breaks. We are enjoying this book ever so much as it really reflects the behavior of these wonderful birds. We thought we had a "Robert", but fortunately he seems willing to leave us,as will the others over Labor Day weekend. Hooray, for That Quail Robert.

"That Quail, Robert" is a delightful story of an unusual bond between a quail and the human world. Not just for children, this book lifts the spirit and shows that people aren't the only species that love and consciously enjoy life.

I adore this book, and have for many years. The story of a family which adopts a helpless quail and raises him (?) as one of their own. The li'l bird becomes more and more human-like, and the family grows to love him dearly. I know that it may sound a trifle sentimental, and it is. If you are looking for something edgy, then this is not the book for you. If, however, you have a taste for gentle humor and charm, please try This Quail Robert. A contemporary classic.

From the day her father died when she was merely ten, Caroline Trent has been passed on from one guardian to the next. Barely six weeks shy from turning twenty one and be able to claim her inheritance, she finds herself at the mercy of her latest guardian's mercy when she foils an attempted rape. Knowing she must escape until she can claim her inheritance, she runs away only to be captured by an agent of the Crown when she is mistaken for a spy.
Blake Ravenscroft thought he finally had the ruthless spy Carlotta de Leon in his hands--only to find out that he has the wrong woman. Upon learning his captive's predicament, the gentleman in him couldn't say no to her request to stay at his manor until her twenty first birthday. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he is attracted to her--even though she sorely tests his temper! But if he would just look deep inside, he would know that the tempting chit has wound her way into his heart...
I have been a big fan of Julia Quinn since reading the Bridgerton series. Her writing is superb and her characters are always well-rounded. While TO CATCH AN HEIRESS is the least interesting book of hers that I have read, this was still an entertaining book and had its moments. Caroline is a clever and delightful heroine, full of life and passion. She is perfect for Blake who suffers the guilt over losing his fiancée, who was also a government agent. The way she brought laughter to his otherwise jaded existence provided some sweet and amusing reading. I did have a good laugh over some of their verbal sparring, though I felt that the plot could have been better developed. This was still an entertaining read, with witty dialogues and fun secondary characters (watch out for the marquis and Blake's butler) though not quite on par with some of Quinn's other novels, notably the first three books in the Bridgerton series.
I have the follow up book, HOW TO MARRY A MARQUIS, and hoping for a better story.
2 hours squandered...............2006-08-14
.....so this unmarried unchaperoned 20 something year old (England 1814) just got kidnapped by "the most frightening man she has ever seen" and she is busy playing games with him not in the least bit fearful for her life, or at least her reputation???
Such is Ms Quinn's writing style...
This book and its idea is very immature, asinine, undeveloped, humorless, witless and ridiculously interminable.

I was really looking forward to this book and wasn't impressed. Too much bickering and fighting between the main characters. Boring and draggy.

Julia Quinn has some wonderful novels... I gave this package four stars because Dancing at Midnight is my least favorite Julia Quinn book. It is funny but just doesn't have the delightful flair that her other books have.
Belle, Emma's cousin from Splendid, finally meets a man who doesn't fall at her feet over her beauty. He's definitely brooding over something in his past, but it doesn't keep the sparks from flying between them. This book has a litle more intrigue than other Quinn's books and sometimes drags because the characters are a bit shallow. However, there are some wonderfully memorable moments when Belle and Blackwood finally decide to marry. How many interruptions can one wedding take from a drunk priest to an angry brother... it's hilarious!
To Catch an Heiress has some of the funniest dialogue ever! It has some sexy love scenes that make this book sizzle a little more than other Quinn books. Caroline Trent and Blake Ravenscroft's romance involves a mistaken identity. Blake thinks Caroline is a spy. Caroline is trying to escape her fortune-hunting guardian's son and potential marriage to him. All in all, I laughed my head off throughout this entire book. It's a fast read. You will want it on your shelf because you will be re-reading it many times when you are bored or just in the mood for a delicious laugh.

The Ruin Mist stories really live up to expectations. I love the characters as much as the wonderfully crafted world itself. This companion is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to learn more. It reveals some secrets though so you should read all the books at least once first. If you read this and then read the books a second time, you're going to have many "WOW!" moments especially if you missed the many cleverly hidden clues that connect it all together.

Ruin Mist Chronicles mainly centers on a great journey and the coming together of divided peoples with great evil, wars and dark minions as strong additions. Stanek does not just create a plot and loads of characters in the books, he creates a whole new world. This makes his stories amazing! It's the Star Wars of fantasy fiction. Story Behind the Book
I had no idea how clueless I was about men until I interviewed a bunch of them for my last novel. Initially, I just wanted a little insight so I could write my main (male) character. But pretty soon I found myself astonished, over and over again blurting out, “That’s what you’re thinking?” So I did more interviews. After the novel hit shelves, dozens of women told me they also had been astonished by what I included. Clearly I wasn’t the only one who needed more insight on this!
To lay the groundwork for this nonfiction book, I wrote out the half-dozen things from these interviews that had most surprised me—things that appeared to be universal to most men—that women desperately needed to know. I conducted a professional national survey of men to test my findings. Yep—the survey substantiated every single one. These findings are fascinating—and they have already changed my life and marriage. I can’t wait to share them!

To begin with, I was blown away by this book. What an impact such a small volume has made in my relationship with my dear fiance' as well as with my brothers and father. So, why is this book so good? Firstly, it is written with the idea of informing about the way men think. How many of us are totally confused about men? Yeah, most of us. And men don't talk a lot about their "feelings" so it is very difficult to get an honest answer. This book is an absolute blessing in that measure. It shows why men have trouble being romantic, why they need women's respect so much and (possibly the most revolutionary chapter) why they want SO MUCH sex.
I will not explain, b/c the book does that, but I will say that once I read the book my eyes were completely opened to why my fiance' reacts the way he does to my actions. And I began changing my actions and... well I will just say that although Caleb and I have always had an incredible relationship, this just made things even more beautiful.
To the reviewer who complained that the book made wives too subservient I would answer, firstly, read her book "For Men Only". Both books are interested in teaching wives and husbands to better serve eachother. Secondly, women are not at all put down in this book. Rather wives are shown to be the one factor in their husbands' lives that really makes the crucial difference between men feeling like a success or a failure. This book really is empowering to women because it is basically like, "You can make the crucial difference... Oh yeah, here's how."
While some points in this book may not be accurate for all men (I am blessed with a man who is the "King of Romance" as my mom says, and who will always talk about his feelings) it really has something for every relationship. If you are working to cultivate a blessed, beautiful marriage, you will find this book to be of great value.

I have read a lot of books trying to understand my fellow homosapiens and this did not most terrific job. I relate to my brothers, coworkers, leaders, and men I've dated so much better. I judge less and I find that I'm less insecure around men now.
Shaunti Feldhahn is not just an author, she is an EXCELLENT communicator........2007-08-20
For Women Only is the result of a survey of 400 men across the country who responded to a questionaire about their relationships. This book points out seven areas in which women have a surface understanding of men's needs or desires and delves into each subject in a way that leaves the reader grasping what that statement really means.
For example, the first point is that "men need respect". That seems obvious enough, but Feldhahn brings this into perspective with her survey result that 74% of the men would rather feel "alone & unloved" instead of "inadequate & disrespected", if they had to choose one of the two options. She then elaborates on this with several follow-up examples of ways women can either demonstrate respect or show a lack of respect. Some of which we don't usually connect with showing disrespect. On page 24, she quotes Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, "In a relationship conflict, crying is often a woman's response to feeling unloved, and anger is often a man's response to feeling disrespected."
I would highly recommend this book to any woman who is serious about wanting to improve her relationship with her husband. The author has a way of transforming something you think you know into something you can apply to your everyday life, which isn't always an easy task.

Extremely Helpful and Practical!.......2007-08-14
Realizing that there is always room for improvement, my wife and I have made it a practice over our almost 25 years of marriage to read marriage articles and books regularly. Nothing that we know of comes close to the helpful and pracitical insight we have received from "For Women Only" and it's companion book, "For Men Only". We strongly recommend it to every married couple. These two books, along with "Sheet MUsic" by Kevin Leman and "The Book of Romance" by Tommy Nelson are at the top of our list.
