I love everything EJD does, the man is a genius! I own almost all of his solo projects. I loved that this book like the others had many twists and kept me reading long thru the night.
A Good Read!.......2007-04-02
E. Dickey put together an interesting story, which focuses on an interracial relationship between Jordan and Kimberly. A story I believe that is intended to make us all take self-inventory on how we truly view such relationships. And bring enlightenment by the story's end.
With that being said, Jordan's and Kimberly's is a witty and realistic love story that is enjoyable to read, as Dickey takes the characters through all the changes of being in love.
In addition, it offers an honest inside view into what it's like to experience the pain and ignorance of prejudiceness among members of the same race and the scars it can leave behind.

Just okay.......2007-03-26
I'm not an EJD fan but picked up this book to see what every one was raving about. It was a slow read for me at the beginning and didn't become good until around the 8th chapter. It was a well put together story that involved Jordan, (black male) and Kim Chavers, (white female). Jordan was dating a twin (his ex black lover), until that one taxi ride which landed him with Kim. Jnette (ex lover) ended up pregnant and all the friends that she and Jordan gained together thought he was the baby's daddy. Both women were liars from the start but he ended up falling for Kim. EJD did make Jnette out to be this ghetto super star and unlike some, this was just okay.

I was disppointed by this book by Eric Jerome Dickey. I love his work, normally! But the characters were kind of one dimensional for me in this one. I enjoyed the storyline, but I think he could have explored it more in depth. This will not stop me from reading his work, but I will have to give this book away... not a keeper for me, unfortunately!

This is the first book by Eric Jerome Dickey that I read and I really enjoyed it. It's a story about an interracial relationship and true love. I really like this man's style of writing and I enjoyed the story.

Fun Yet Typical MJD.......2007-05-14
I agree with the other reviewer who said not to read all four of the short stories in DEAD AND LOVING IT all at once. Read back-to-back, although a quick read, the stories are all extremely similar--there are even phrases in the stories that have been used, word for word, in the one that came before it.
That said, all four stories deal in some way with werewolves, specifically ones from the Wyndham clan. The stories are short, sexy, and to the point. Although I enjoyed the premise of all of them, the use of the "c" word to describe the female anatomy irked me, so much so that I had to, at times, set the book aside.
However, SANTA CLAWS, MONSTER LOVE, THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A WEREWOLF, and A FIEND IN NEED are all fast-paced stories that die-hard fans of MJD will enjoy. Overall, not a bad book, although the typographical errors and the repetitive phrases (even some entire scenes appeared recycled from the previous short story) keep it from being a true winner.
Porn is porn is porn. . . ........2007-04-24
If, indeed, the true definition of porn is no plot and copious sex, then this book is pure porn. It sucked (you should excuse the pun). It seems even the editors had their fill (you should excuse yet another pun): by the end novella there were mistakes galore (to instead of too, stature rather than statue, heroine initially introduced as brunette but four chapters later is described as a willowy blonde). I wouldn't blame an editor for walking away from this garbage.
Trashy mouthed (wo)men and/or rape in captivity (or under any other circumstances) are not entertaining. I can't help but wonder what kind of money she made from this waste of time/effort/publishing. It would be nice it she would donate it to a women's shelter. I shudder to think this women and her husband also write children's books.
Fabulous Read!.......2007-03-08
This book was a fast, easy, and highly entertaining read. I was already a huge fan of Davidson's Betsy the Vampire Queen series and now I love the Wyndham werewolves just as much. I look forward to reading about the rest of the werewolves.
Short enjoyable reads!.......2007-03-01
I read this collection of short stories in a day. I thought that they were quick and easy reads, that were both entertaining and cute. I had never read a Davidson novel and enjoyed it. I will not reharsh what others have said but basically the formula for the stories are as follows. Boy (a goul or fiend) meets girl (a goul or fiend) and fall in love. They accept each other as they are and live, we assume, happily ever after. In "Santa Claws", Alex Kilcurt (a lonely werewolf) meets Giselle (a human)and falls passionately in love. Will she accept him as he is, with claws and all? "Monster Love", finds Janet Lupo (a werewolf) meeting Richard Will (a Vamp). Will the duo stay together forever? In "There's no such thing as a werewolf", Drake Dragon (a blind werewolf) meets Crescent Muhn (a loveable but troubled tattooed girl) and falls in love. But just what is she? And finally "A fiend in Need" stars Antonia (a werewolf who has visions, but can not change) and a silent vamp named Garrett Shea. Will they love each other for eternity? Get the book and read it. You will not have to think hard and will be entertained.
Save your money..........2007-01-20
Other reviewers have given the story outlines so I won't waste time repeating them.
Suffice it to say, thank goodness I borrowed this from the library rather than spending actual money on it. I have enjoyed Davidson's "Betsy" books over the years but these stories come no where near the level of those books. Perhaps if each of the stories were longer and more developed - and eliminated a lot of the gratuitous sex - I might have enjoyed them better. As it is, I was not disappointed when I finished the book, only surprised that I had actually finished it.

The concept for this novel is based on any number of zombie books and movies. For whatever reason, supernatural or scientific, the dead rise and stalk among the living to quench their dreadful hunger. In James Futch and James Newman's cojoined imagination, however, the zombies aren't hungry for flesh or brains, they're hungry for sex. Their carnal appetites are loosed upon the world each night within the confines of the Grady Memorial Hospital morgue, where rumor has it ancient, arcane practices that predated the hospital's construction still haunt the site and cause the nightly resurrection.
"Night of the Loving Dead" could have been a clever twist on the zombie genre. But no, Futch and Newman take the concept entirely too far, coating themselves and their readers in blood, bile and other bodily fluids. The detail with which they describe grotesque and graphic zombie sex -- and the sexual damage the undead can wreak on themselves, their zombie partners and any living humans who get in their way -- tells me these two lads spend an unhealthy amount of time imagining this sort of thing -- right down to its festering core. Believe me, they will detail for you exactly what body parts will tear, what will break and what will burst in a viscous explosion.
Come on, boys, you can dress it up in occult trappings, but rape is never funny, even if the character is drugged and/or is someone we're not supposed to like. Don't be fooled by the hype that makes "Night of the Loving Dead" sound like a comic horror romp. It's vile.
On the other hand, if the thought of sex with dead things appeals to you, this book is just your thing.

It is a powerful and enriching story about human relations.
It shows how important it is to keep your word. When you make a promise how much people depend upon your word.
It teaches so many lessons but, one in partifcular about forgiveness. Especially when The Mountain Man forgave the men that killed his father.
Once you start to read it you won't be able to put it down.

The author was right, once you start reading this book, you can't put it down and it leaves you wanting more after you are done. I really believe that this book will soon be the number one best seller and a number one block buster movie. I only wish volume two and more were ready for me to read right now. I recommend this book for all ages, all schools and all churches and certainly politicians and lawyers could learn a thing or two from it.

As a scientist, it is comforting to know that there are authors out there that know that many people would like to know scientific information without being treated like a specimen. This book gives great scientific citations while also giving practical information and personal stories. I think it is a good balance for this type of book.
I was encouraged to see evidence of what some major religions thought about different infertility treatments-this is often left out of such books, but these authors realized that it is important to many people.
The book itself discusses causes, treatments and psychology around male infertility. It discusses from both the male and femal perspective, which I believe is important. There are many great references in the back of the book as well.
A great book for those in need........2005-08-30
This was a great book for us. Very easy to read - it had the technical stuff but explained in a very down to earth way. It covered many subjects from IVF, IVF ICSI, donor sperm. All in non-judgmental ways, I gives you the facts of all and lets you decide without steering you one way or the other. It also discusses some of the causes. I thought the books was super and should be required reading for all couples that are in this situation.

I am lucky in having pursued infertility therapy as a client (successfully, thankfully) as well as by being a urologist who treats infertility clients. I read this book to decide if it would be a helpful adjunct to the people I treat. I have decided not to recommend it to my clients. I would sooner have them read Larry Lipshultz's book, technical as it is.
While the medical information in the book appears accurate, there is an awful lot of fluff and touchy-feely content obscuring the medical information that is important. At times, the text is downright pandering.
As a urologist who treats infertily patients (successfully, I might add), I found the belittlement of those of us without fellowship training insulting and capable of undermining the confidence of my clients. The benchmarks they site as marks of expertise are entirely artificial and appear self serving; 'don't go to any practitioner who doesn't...do it like we do.' Hopefully the discerning couple will see through the alarmist threats that you will receive inferior medical care and results unless bring your money directly to a university hospital, fellowship trained infertility specialist who only will accept cash in advance of all visits and procedures. Unfortunately, such content only deters those without the means or proximity to visit such fellowship trained infertility specialists from pursuing their care through the resources they do have access to.
Until this book is revised in a way that eliminates the self serving content directing people to refer themselves to specialist with like training of the authors, I would be hard pressed to recommend it to anyone. Additionally, eliminating a bit of the fluff would be extremely helpful in assisting people in actually finding worthwhile current treatment practices.

A great medical book!.......2001-06-05
This is one of the best infertility books I have purchased. Most of the other books leave out valuable statistics and information that made me more curious than before reading the book. This book however, gave me detailed information that was invaluable! It is well written and researched! Being a doctor myself, I was thankful that someone actually included scientific results and information along with all other sorts of data. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone struggling with male infertility!!
