Customer Reviews:
A Decent Retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo.......2007-01-28
Exact Revenge is a loose modern retelling of Alexandre Dumas's The Count of Monte Cristo. In Dumas's 1844 classic, Edmond Dantès is wrongly imprisoned after being caught with an incriminating letter given to him by a dying military captain. In prison, Dantès meets an aging priest who provides him with a rich education in history, language, philosophy, and other disciplines before telling him about a cache of unimaginable riches on the Isle of Monte Cristo. Dantès escapes and uses the wealth to reinvent himself before tracking down and bringing to justice all those who had wronged him.
Green's protagonist is Raymond White, an up-and-coming player in the financial world poised to launch a political career. On the eve of the announcement of his candidacy for Congress, he is given a letter by the dying former Congressman. When White delivers the letter, he is implicated in a murder. After trial, he is sentenced to life in prison without parole.
In prison, White meets Lester Cole, an old art thief who teaches him the ways of the world before confiding in him about the hideaway where he has stored billions of dollars' worth of stolen masterpieces. After White escapes prison, he finds the treasure trove and uses it to carry out his vengeance against the people who destroyed his life.
Readers familiar with the Dumas's plot will be either impressed with or frustrated by Green's staunch loyalty to even minor story elements in his reimagined version. For example, both stories include a letter given to the protagonist by a dying man. In both stories, the letter leads to the carrier's false imprisonment. Both stories include a government official who reluctantly allows the accused to suffer prison rather than risk his own career. Both stories feature a wizened benefactor, a hidden treasure, and unnecessarily complex (and expensive) plans for revenge. Other story elements (specifically the nature of White's escape from prison) seem borrowed from the hit television series Prison Break and the 1994 movie The Shawshank Redemption (based on a novella by Stephen King).
The writing in Exact Revenge is surprisingly good for an author whose previous works have been rather mediocre. His use of metaphor and descriptive prose makes the story enjoyable to read even when its similarities to Monte Cristo seem a bit over the top. I was reminded at times of Cormac McCarthy's abbreviated writing style when Green left out certain details in favor of allowing his audience to fill in the blanks. That strategy mostly worked well in this setting, and I enjoyed the quality of the writing as much as the suspense and intrigue of the story.
Unfortunately, the book contains a fair amount of objectionable content, including multiple sex scenes, some gruesome violence, drug use, and illegal vigilantism. The book's title comes from the most important rule White learns in prison: when someone wrongs you, no matter how trivially, you must exact revenge, and you must pay back the wrong tenfold. That's quite a different message from that of Scripture, where Jesus commands his followers to turn the other cheek and repay evil with kindness. A telling moment comes when White, in the midst of his plotting and carrying out his personal brand of justice, wonders what has happened to his soul.
It's too bad if Tim Green feels he needs to rely on the ideas of others. Giving tribute to classics from previous literary eras is a worthwhile endeavor, and if that was Green's intention with this book, fine. But one would hope that future books from this author will display more originality; his writing is good enough to support ideas that are his own.
SPEED ! SPEED ! SPEED !.......2007-01-01
Speed ! Speed ! Speed ! Turn the page, again, again, and again. Rapid fire prose re-tell the Count of Monte Cristo. Yet, another updated re-make. Stop. You love it. Hollywood knows it. Action movie entertainment. Not much more. Beach read. (where I read it)
Tim Green-looks and brains.......2006-12-19
I have read every one of Tim Greens books. LOVE THEM. This was a twist on Shawshank and Monte Cristo with a sprinkeling of a good ole bar brawl. Never disappointed in his books. I dont' even read the cover anymore i just buy them.
Another Beach Read Page Turner.......2006-11-29
Exact Revenge has an intriguing premise: If you were framed and convicted for murder, and you knew who the people were who set you up, then escaped 20 years later, how would get revenge if you had an unlimited supply of cash?
Written in first person, Raymond White, posing as Seth Cole, tells us his story. Segmented into three parts, 1) The Frame up, 2) The Escape, 3) Exact Revenge. The plot moves smoothly along, there is little depth to this tale, nor insightful moral or lesson that Raymond White, nor the reader, gets in the end. That's not a criticism. The novel is a nice cathartic release following along with stock characters. Anyone expecting deep meaning or an epiphany in their thinking will not find it here. For what it is, you will find the story is a well paced read that keeps you hooked up to the final moments when Raymond White reveals himself and exacts revenge.
For those who do not have time to.............2006-08-24
read The Count of Monte Cristo, this book will do. It is a modern day take of "Monte Cristo". Of course, the hero, Raymond White is no Edmond Dantes but if you truly do not have the time to read the original, this version is altered for the twentieth century and was also very fun to read.
With that being said, PLEASE take time to read the original version as it is one of the greatest literature of all time and also one of the most exciting and entertaining of all.

A GREAT, GREAT, BOOK...........2007-09-11
This was a great book, that I could not put down. Please do read but if you do, please read in sequence order. It was soooooooo worth it.
Wahida, keep em comin..........2007-07-12
Just like "Thugs and the Who Love Them," I couldn't put down "Every Thug Needs A Lady!" Wahida has done it again! I feel like the characters are my peeps.
The unbelieveable drama and toe-tingling sex continue when Roz "Tash" and Angel find the men of their dreams...best friends Trae and Kaylin "Kay." As professional, college educated women, Tash and Angel can't understand why they've fallen head over heals for two "thugs." Trae and Kay make Tash and Angel the envy of all of the ladies in their social circle. These two couples are on a roller coaster ride to trouble living the lifestyles associated with hustlin for a livin, but their dedication to each other holds them together until the end.
I'm on my way to buy the third sequel, "Thug Matrimony."
My new found Love-(Wahida Clark).......2007-06-09
I just want to say, "this book will definitely keep you on the edge and wanting more." This is the first book I read from this author and I just beleive me, when I say that in the middle of the book.......I went online and ordered her entire collection. You will not get lost or get bored. It's a page turner if ever I seen one. Please do yourself a favor and pick it up TODAY!!!!!
I love you Wahida!.......2007-06-02
I read these books back when they first dropped original cover and all. Every thug needs a lady picks up from the novel Thugs and the women who love them. In Every thug needs a lady it focuses on Roz and Angel. Roz meets and falls for Trae but also his right hand man, kaylin meets and falls for Angel. Trae and Kaylin are heavy weights in the streets but they are also looking to eventually get out the game. Angel pursuing her law career and is worried about her involvement with Kaylin. Will the boys get out without bloodshed or arrest?
Wahida Clark is a exceptional writer. She is able to give it to you raw, gritty but also make it a great read. It was to ghetto, there wasn't any unbearable ebonics. It was and is a great read. I look forward to reading everything she puts out!
Just ok.......2007-05-23
This book was just ok, it was not what i expected at all. It was very slow and it only got somewhat interesting at the end of the book. After reading all of the reviews on this book I expected it to be much better.

My Favorit Sigil Book.......2007-10-06
What I like about this book is that it is all Char development. Every NPC in the book is linked to every other NPC in the book. I think its useful for DM cause it gives 40+ NPC of all lvl that the PC can more realisticly meet. Cause com on how many Faction high ups will give the pcs at low lvl the time of day? Where this book gives you the common fock who really keep the city of door interesting and on its feet.
Great Accesory! Kylie rules.......1999-08-15
I really enjoyed this accesory. All the charachters are fleshed out and belivable. Its added a lot to my planescape campaign.
THE PLANESCAPE BOOK THAT DESERVES SEVERAL SEQUELS!.......1999-01-20
This book is alot of fun to read! Instead of just giving game information on the NPCs (Non-Player characters), the reader is also given an idea of each character's believable personality and story. These guys aren't cardboard cut-outs. Before long, the reader starts to feel like they're actual people who live next-door!
The best part is that each characters' story is connected to each other in some sort of indirect network.
TSR did a good job in making a living, breathing book. Not only is this a game reference book, but a well-crafted story book too!
This book also has strong connections to FACTION WAR and IN THE CAGE: A GUIDE TO SIGIL. It also has some connections to the other Planescape products.
Do you know the factions in planescape?.......1998-11-12
In this book you can see people in Sigil that think in very strange forms. people that think in your factions and they living for something.
Best Planescape book around (so far!).......1998-05-20
If you like Planescape, you'll love "Faces". It's certainly my favourite PS release to date; the forty-plus characters described are all incredibly original, detailed and exciting; the artwork's fantastic; and -- the real reason I love this book to pieces -- each character's intricately linked to the others, creating a great web of intrigue and deceit. And that's _exactly_ how I see Sigil. Buy this book. You won't be disappointed.

My [...] granddaughter loves the "Charlie Monkey" book in this series, so we hurried to buy her the rest of the books by Priddy. The Dragon book is simplistic but entertaining, and she loves what it offers at her stage of development. Thanks to Mr. Priddy for his hands-on, tactile, audible edutainment.

Young Indiana Jones and the Face of the Dragon.......2002-03-09
Young Indiana Jones and the Face of the Dragon
by: William McCay is about two people and there adventures. Indy and Dr. Jones (Indy's dad) start their adventure on a cruise ship heading to the coast of Japan. When they arrive military forces cut them off. Their ship had to take a detour to the slumps of Japan. They both end up living in a weird hotel. Indy find something mysterious item in his bag. What he doesn't know is that the item is a good luck charm and helps them through the journey.
Indy is/was the most interesting character in my own opinion. Indy is exciting and adventurous. On the other hand Dr.Jones is the complete opposite. He is dull and doesn't get involved. The theme of the story is that good people get good things. I believed this is the theme because the mysterious item Indy found gives him good luck. What I liked about the book was the plot, it was very exciting and was a little scary. What I didn't like about the book is was the ending and the dialogue. The dialogue was hard to understand and the ending came way to fast and also was really predictable.
I thought the authors way of writing made the book fun to read. He will keep you interested and the descriptions of the characters are very good. The writing and vocab is a little hard to understand. Some of the books words are hard to understand because of the foreign words. Most of the book was hard to relate to. I think the appropriate age for this book is 9-12 because of mild language and violence. I would recommend this book to kids who hates to read and like mysteries. I gave this book *** stars.

the central story is good.......2003-08-05
had read it before when i was in high school or so. a little breakfast club-y, esp. w/ the supporting characters, but the central emotional drama, namely the relationship b/t two long-time friends and how it changes as they enter high school, was nicely done.
Eric and his life experiences.......1999-05-18
Eric, a new highschool student has many things to learn about it.He lives in a apartment with his mother. She is a very loving and caring person. He discovers love and starts noticing woman. Paul(Erics best friend) is stuck in the same accelerated class together.Paul is a very competitive person. They compete with one another to see whos best. But if that isn't enough, they have to put up with the teacher Eric hate the most...Mr. Drake. He was the most manipulative debating teacher in all of school. I personally liked this book because it deals with eveyday life situations that people might've been stuck in before. I would definetly recommend this book to the young adults.I think the author..(Sweeney) is avery bright and brilliant author. She creates a sence of caring for the characters and feeling for them. This was a very good book.

Book Description
In Enter To Face The Dragon, author Al Lloyd shows how church development is threatened and often upset by influences from the world, flesh, and Devil. Using biblical principles, case studies, and practical experiences, the author answers such questions as: How does a Christian group know when their development glorifies God in Christ? Who are the enemies of Christ-centered church circle development? How should Christians confront the enemies of Christ? Who is or is not qualified to earnestly contend for the common Christian faith? What does God's Word teach about carnality, spiritual warfare, and conflict management? Prepared for organized and informal church circles, and those seeking Christ-centered development management skills, this resource will prove to be a valuable help. It is written for all leaders and lay persons.

Dragon Focuses On Hard Hitting Realities Facing Church.......2001-05-07
I thought Enter To Face The Dragon was a strange title for a Christian book. Then I read it. It deals with stuff that is occurring within today's Christian family. Using the Holy Bible as a foundation, the author provided a resource that should be added to any reference library.

Best book on Fiends I have read.......2007-10-08
I own all the planescape products so having read and able to compare them. I would say that this is one of the best. I would not run any Campain on the blood war without this book and Hellbound The Blood War box set. Colin Mccomb did a good job on this product. It goes threw each of the Fiend Races and explains each in great detail.
Review of the habits and lives of the lower planar entities.......1997-09-03
A great review of the lifestyles and habits of the lower planar races (Baatezu, Tanar'ri, Yugoloth) Provides EXTENSIVE role-playing potential, while leaving room for a DM to add or leave out parts of the guide. The book also covers some of the other lesser, often forgotten, lower planar races such as hags and hordlings

A great primer for folks outside of medicine or public health.......2007-06-20
I'm a physician and I hold a Master's in Public Health. I bought this book for my kids, along with several other DK titles. This is a great overview of the subject and covers the history of epidemiology in a wonderfully straight forward and very complete manner. In fact, I keep a copy in my office to loan to my non-medical colleagues for a fast and highly readable overview of this fascinating subject! Grade School, High School, College or Post Bach, what ever your educational level, I don't think you'll be disappointed with this very neat book!
Adults like these books too..........2004-10-25
I first got into the Eyewitness series when I was in elementary school...now I'm nearly 21 and I still love these books! "Epidemic" is one of my favorites. I love the mix of both recent photography and older woodcuts/drawings used to illustrate such topics as historical diseases (such as leprosy), and more modern ones (like AIDS). I highly recommend "Epidemic" to anyone, young or old, who is interested in the symptoms and treatment of illness throughout history.
