Book Description
Jason Carrillo is a jock with a steady girlfriend, but he can't stop dreaming about sex...with other guys.
Kyle Meeks doesn't look gay, but he is. And he hopes he never has to tell anyone -- especially his parents.
Nelson Glassman is "out" to the entire world, but he can't tell the boy he loves that he wants to be more than just friends.
Three teenage boys, coming of age and out of the closet. In a revealing debut novel that percolates with passion and wit, Alex Sanchez follows these very different high-school seniors as their struggles with sexuality and intolerance draw them into a triangle of love, betrayal, and ultimately, friendship.

Bravo.......2007-08-29
From the first to last page I was hooked on this book. It was so good that I am thrilled that the stories continue. Alex you have a new fan!
Loved It.......2007-08-01
I probably do not fit this books demographic!
I'm a 22 year old straight female.
But I LOVED this book, and the other two that follow it. I rarely read at all, but I couldn't put it down, I read it non stop until it was finished.
I felt like the characters were my close friends. The great part about this book and the other two is that it gets right to the action. None of that boring prose about trees and leaves blowing in the wind. Every page is interesting, and it feels like an original story, unlike all the hetero fiction that is out there for teens to read. Did I mention again that I'm straight?
Nelson, Jason and Kyle are remarkable - particularly Nelson, he comes out with some great lines and is a fantastic character.
To be honest, this book rather made me WISH I knew these kids. And that I was a guy. And gay. (Nelson owns my heart)
Kudos to Alex! Excellent book!
Rainbow Boys.......2007-05-09
I loved the book. It could really help young boys who are sturggling with their sexuality. The story line keeps you involved and the context of the story is very appropriate. The book is page turner because it moves at a fast pace and the story line is interesting, your always wondering whats going to happen next. Not only is the context of what is going on with the boys helpful to young adults, but also the family dynamics presented in this book can also have many children relating to these boys struggles.
A must read!.......2007-05-04
This realistic contemporary literature novel covers many social and emotional issues faced by high school students. The problems and solutions were realistic and practical. Fear of rejection, sense of belonging, and the need to fit in were just a few of the underlying themes that were presented throughout the novel. It is difficult for all high school students to understand who they are and everyone fights with trying to fit in, having the right clothing or hairstyle, listening to the right music, saying the right things. But for high school minorities, these challenges are only more obvious as they face so many different difficulties. The characters were well developed and ever changing, allowing the reader to feel as though they really know Nelson, Kyle, and Jason first hand. Sanchez does a great job of producing well-rounded characters with realistic problems. He leads the reader to want to continue reading, waiting to see what will happen to the boys next. The book ends rather abruptly, with many issues yet to be resolved. However, this is Sanchez's way of making you read the sequels, Rainbow High and Rainbow Road. As a reader, I definitely want to go and read the next two books that follow the characters through the remainder of high school and on to their lives after graduation. As frustrating as it was to have the book end without answering all the questions, it is a good author who leaves you wanting more and can get a reader so excited that they can't wait for the next story. A true eye opener of a book, dealing with many adolescent issues. However, not appropriate to be used as a whole class novel even in late high school. There are some very graphic scenes and language that is quite controversial. I think it is a great book that teachers, social workers, and parents should be aware of and it should be available to students on an individual basis. Students who might be part of a gay-straight alliance or who personally seek help and understanding of their own confusions will learn a lot and be able to connect to Sanchez's work.
A Must-Read!.......2007-04-04
First, I am very picky when it comes to books that I select to read. As a special education teacher and doctoral candidate, there just is little time for "fun reading"
When a former student came out to me, I took her to the local GLCC (I am also on its board of trustees). I took her to our library section to see if there was anything she would be interested in. Anything that might make her feel the "normality" of being Gay that I struggled with for so many years. At one time, I was even on the verge of suicide.
Alex Sanchez's books had been recommended to me. I think I even purchased a few -- but they got lost somewhere in my book avalanche. I DO NOT regret brining this book home. It is well written. It shifts from character to character delicately telling their stories. Mr. Sanchez could not have chosen three better characters for his plot. You have the very open Nelson, the "I'm gay but I don't want everyone to know it, yet" Kyle....and my favorite, the jock....Jason. Each has separate struggles. But they help each other through the process.
I wish this book had been written all those years ago when I was afraid and alone. I am ordering the series....and anything else that Mr. Sanchez writes!
As the sponsor of a Gay Straight Alliance, I think this is a great addition to any collection.*
* I do have to admit that they use the "F" word a few times more than I am used to .. but I alo teach high school! But, I realize that that is the way kids talk...and if it helps someone...Hurray!
Book Description
"Does a rainbow make a noise?" a deaf child asks a hearing friend. "No," he is told. Some things don't need a noise. A rainbow is just the same for you and me." WHEN CHRIS WAS A BABY, his parents realized that he didn't notice the dog barking or a door slamming. Through a series of tests, doctors determined that he was deaf. In this intriguing, reassuring book, Chris tells young readers about what it is like to be deaf and describes typical events in his life and the ways he has adjusted to his hearing loss. With the assistance of hearing aids, Chris is able to hear vibrations, loud noises, and some other sounds. With sign language, speech therapy, and an interpreter, Chris' days are much like those of hearing children, filled with classes, soccer games, and children's theater. Accompanied by Simmonds' vivid and energetic multimedia paintings, Heelan's text explores the world of a real child and answers the questions many children may have about hearing loss.

Petey the puppy has one wish for Christmas: to have a boy of his very own. He searches long and hard, but boys are in short supply this year, and no one seems right for him. Just as Petey is about to give up hope, his Christmas wish is granted -- in a very surprising way.
Customer Reviews:
A Boy for Christmas by Natalie G........2007-03-20
The Puppy who wanted a Boy is a book by Jane Thayer is a wonderful Story. It's a good story for kindergartners through second graders. The story is about a puppy that's looking for a boy. This book has a lot of things first graders will especially enjoy.
The illustrations are the cutest part .The illustrator, Lisa Mcue, did a great job. She made them so cute. It looks so realistic! Most of the pictures tell more of the story than the words do!
The puppy, whose name was Petey, is looking for a dog who'll give his boy away. But, he has no luck. All of them say, "NO"! What will Petey do? His mommy tries to help, but she had no luck either. What's Petey going to do? Read the story to find out.
Remember, this book is easy to read. A kindergartener can read it (with a little help from mom and dad of course)! There are a few hard words like perhaps, frighten, and thought. Other than that, I highly recommend it. It's a must-read!
The Puppy who wanted a Boy is the book to read. Kids who like a cute little puppy should totally take this book to consideration. Shoot, with a those cute animals you'll love it, especially if you're an animal lover! After you read it once, you'll read it again and again! Kids should definitely read this book.
Awwwww.......2007-03-17
This was one of my favorite books when I was little, it's so cute it's almost disgusting (it's not, though!). The illustrations are very well done, as well as the whole idea of the story itself. A great children's book for the holidays, or any other day for that matter.
Puppies Look for Boys.......2006-02-17
This book was fun to read. Dogs looking for a boy/that's so funny! My favorite part is when the dog is chasing a car. You should really buy this book!!
The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy by Myriah Rangel.......2005-12-02
This book is called The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy. It's by Jane Thayer. I liked this book because, the puppy wanted a boy really bad, and he told his mom that he was good. He wasn't good though, he was a little bad. I liked it because he only wanted a boy, and in the end he ended up with a lot of boys.
Very touching, very appropriate for holidays........2005-11-15
I have received the book in the mail and haven't read it to my kids yet, but I read it myself. I just could not help myself and before I knew it, I was crying. It is a very nice, touching book that teaches about companionship and love. I would highly recommend it, I can't wait to read it to my kids!
Book Description
Sam Jones is back! Lauren Henderson's sexy, streetwise artist-cum-detective returns in
Freeze My Margarita, the sequel to her enormously popular
Black Rubber Dress.
A chance meeting in a fetish club with an old friend from art school leads to a new sculpting job for Sam: creating a series of mobiles for an avant-garde production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Plunged into the strange world of theater, Sam mingles with a bizarre, vexing, but often amusing cast of characters, including the appalling Helen, the girlfriend of Sam's best friend Janey, and Hugo, an enigmatic and acidly humorous actor with a wry Peter Wimsey drawl and a perfectly shaped bottom. After a long string of disappointing boyfriends, Sam may have finally met her match with Hugo. Now if she could only figure out whether or not he's gay...
This pressing state of affairs is overshadowed only by the discovery of a decomposing body in the basement beneath the theater. Sam, who's unfortunately grown accustomed to stumbling across dead bodies, is hardly fazed, but as the mysterious deaths increase and a practical joker starts to sabotage performances of the play, Sam realizes that unless the killer is caught, she may be facing her own curtain call.

Freeze My Margarita : A Novel.......2005-06-09
The best! Makes you want to buy a blender and start making your own margaritas and party til the morning time!
Revenge of The Fashion Pack.......2003-07-26
Clothes...clothes and more clothes, haute couture name-dropping, ensembles, accessories, jodhpurs, faille and chenille...endless descriptions of character's clothes!...Argh! The off-white, off-the-shoulder, and off-the rack nattering just drove me off-my-rocker in this book!
OK, I didn't hate this book. It was OK. But it was very, very lightweight, and didn't click for me. With a little more silliness, it could have been a 'daahling!' parody of a mystery novel, or going the other way, it could have been genuinely scary.
But the characters are mostly airheads, and there's too much focus on theater production and hardly any attention to the actual murder--everybody's too busy vocal training, having meetings, emoting, gossipping or--grr!--changing their darling clothes to make room for any serious plot. There was a lot of entertaining talk, but no suspense whatsoever, and the murder weapon was so boring it was downright nerdy. Sam Jones dissappointed me...she's likeable enough, gets off some sarcastic lines, but she doesn't do any thinking or detecting. She's just kind of...there. In her ever-changing clothes. And the last line of the book, which was apparently supposed to be a witty zinger, just left me thinking: "...Huh?" Maybe it's some obscure double-entendre, but it feels like Henderson just didn't know how to end the book.
Overall, I would have liked more parody or more horror, or both, for Sam Jones to get her hands dirty with more than steel filings, and for most of the silly actors in theis book to rent a brain.
And I dare Ms. Henderson to write a book set in a nudist colony.
Drug on.......2002-10-22
I'm sorry, but I did not like this book. Her first, Black Rubber Dress, I couldn't put down. I really enjoyed it. This one to me was boring and seemed to drag on and on. It was almost to the last chapters before it started heating up and became interesting. This is one I would not recommend or keep.
a series to savor.......2002-04-09
The second Sam Jones novel is wonderful and even better than the first. Sam wants men who are good in bed, don't ask questions, are sardonic and have a great bodies. She likes a nice ass, 6 pack abs and a big "organ". She is delightful.
Almost a half of the novel is not dealing with murder at all but detailing Sam's luscious view of the world of theatre. In a fetish bar, Sam meets an old friend from design school who is now working on designing the set for a production of Midsummer Night's Dream. Sally (a very gay Italian with a theek accent) convinces her that her mobiles would be great as the forest and look like chandeliers for the indoor scenes.
Sam goes to work making her mobiles at the theatre and is introduced to the cast and crew. Melanie Marsh (MM) is the director and she is talented, focused and never raises her voice. She will direct a smashing play that gets rave reviews and makes the career of many of the actors. Hugo is Oberon and when we first meet him we are sure he is a hunk, but gay. It turns out he is not, but playing the part to annoy another member of the cast who he dislikes and who dislikes him. He has been chatting up Sam and she is attracted to his wry humor, quick wit and 6 pack abs. When he drops his towel in front of her and stands there naked, she understands he is not gay and their relationship begins. Hugo is so much the type Sam loves, she is starting to get mushy about him and feels jealousy! Sam jealous?!
The wit is wonderful as this brief excerpt will attest: there is a heavy conversation and then a pause after something weighty is said. "'God,' Hugo drawled at last, I've always avoided doing Pinter and now I know why.'" You have to know about the Pinter pauses to get this, and if you do, it is great fun.
I suspect that like me, once you start this series it will be hard to stop.
WONDERFUL READ!.......2001-05-08
Lauren has produced another entertaining read. Sam Jones has yet again found herself in the mitts of a mystery. She meets up with an old friend who asks her to think about making some piece of art for a performance of Midnight Summer's Dream. She agrees and everything from love, death and odd diet control techniques follow. This book would have been a 5 if it hadn't covered the production aspects of a play so much. I really didn't enjoy that bit. Otherwise, another fun read from Lauren Henderson! And if you finish the book you will understand the title.

At first, I was sad and thought that is this what EQ is becoming?
This? I'd like to cry.
But I read more. This is a good one, though I don't like the drawings. But this comic really made me laugh. And this had a tale in it, a good one. Some EQs don't have very much happening and story inside them, but this one has.
Go on, read this one. EQ will never be what it was in original quest (comics 1-4), but it's still alive.
Elfquest #7 The Cry From Beyond Book Review.......2000-03-30
I think that this book, though I like the whole series, is one of the most intriging. The authors reveal secrets about the charachters, like the info on Nightfall and Redlance. I thought the fact that they managed to work so many of the older characters, like Picknose, Oddbit and "Grammama". Other characters were new, like Trinket and Ekuar. (They have mentioned Ekuar before but not really.) This is one of my favorite books.
Great book!.......2000-03-21
Like just about every other book in the series, I absolutely loved this volume. The Pinis have created a truly unique and wondrous story that captivates the imagination and tears at the heart, and this installment is no exception. A must read for anyone who loves a good story.

Book Description
In this long-awaited description of the body-centered therapy developed by Marion Rosen, the reader begins to understand how emotional and physical ailments can be addressed through the gentle touch of the Rosen practitioner. Rosen explains how the practitioner identifies tensions in the body that point to the source of a problem and how that awareness guides the healing process. With the help of psychotherapist Susan Brenner, one of Marion's first students and the director of Rosen Center East, she describes the origins of her method; how people reveal their emotions in body postures; barriers they set up to love, self-expression, and intimacy, and how Rosen work enables a client to move beyond these barriers. Treatments for asthma, migraine headaches, heart problems, weak immune systems, and psychosomatic illnesses are chronicled. Essay by doctors, psychologists, and Rosen practitioners describe how this method of touch, words, and acceptance guides their work, and complete this remarkable tribute to a visionary woman.
Customer Reviews:
If Words Can Describe Energy Healing.......2007-08-17
I am a not a professional bodyworker. However, after reading this book I aspire to this profession. Marion's descriptions of her work and method are so simple. Energy work, which resonates with our deepest spiritual selves, generally defies human words. Yet Marion manages to convey her message well. She doesn't always try to attach a meaning to why energy healing works. She readily says, "I don't know why it works, but it does." Being on the table experiencing this work is miraculous! I don't know why it works, but it does!
Rosen Method Bodywork .......2005-09-01
The Southwest, and Santa Fe in particular, has long been a mecca for the healing arts. The area seems to produce a kind of mentality and lifestyle for all types of alternative healers, from astrology to hypnosis to massage to Chinese medicine. Rosen Method Bodywork is one of many forms of bodywork to find a foothold in the region.
Marion Rosen, creator and founder of Rosen Method bodywork and movement, penned this in-depth explanation of her bodywork and movement therapy with her longtime collaborator, Sue Brenner. For anyone who has experienced the wonders of Rosen Method (and I count myself among the fortunate), this book is a godsend.
Rosen Method bodywork is distinguished by its gentle, direct touch. Based on Rosen's professional training as a physical therapist and developed experientially over many years, this jewel of discovery and creative expression has been a well-kept secret. Using hands that listen rather than manipulate or massage, the Rosen Method practitioner focuses on chronic muscle tension. When relaxation occurs and the breath deepens, unconscious feelings, attitudes and memories may come to the surface.
In his foreword to the book, Dr. Claudio Naranjo offers that he "considers Rosen a wise woman of the best kind: one who not only understands, but has humanity. She is a first-rate example of those I have over the years called"the new shamans"-those who heal by a combination of direct contagion and very simple facts that our academic world ignores."
Rosen's candid reflections on the surprises and healing that show up routinely in her work with clients and students alike is refreshing. The case studies in the book are a valuable demonstration of the principles behind the Rosen Method. What if enjoyment, satisfaction and full participation in life is actually a function of posture, breathing, digestion, movement and the ongoing regeneration of organs, bones and other body tissues? And, what if you have access to affecting all those living processes?
Whether you want to fully experience Rosen Method bodywork or not, this book offers refreshing, uncomplicated insights into what has made life the way it is for you. For those interested in living life to the fullest, this book offers an understanding of how Rosen creates that possibility through touch.
