Book Description
"Have you ever loved someone that you never had?" No doubt, this is possible--loving someone you've never had. If not you, then maybe someone you know. In PROMISES BEYOND JORDAN, George Landris speaks these words to Theresa Jordan, his wife-to-be, just as he rushes off to search for Johnnie Mae Taylor (a woman he once loved) after learning she and her family were in a serious car accident. Being that it's nine days before he and Theresa are set to wed, a natural sense of uneasiness starts to loom.
But then, Theresa has a few problems of her own brewing. One of which stems from a promise her father--Richard, now Bishop Jordan--made thirty years ago to Lena Patterson: a twenty-year-old woman critically burned in a fire. As secrets begin to surface, they may prove to be Theresa's (as well as some others') undoing. Add to this mix, a scandal threatening to split--if not destroy--Wings of Grace Faith Ministry Church (along with its unconventional, dreadlocks-wearing, Word-teaching pastor), and you have all the necessary ingredients for a spirited, drama-filled, smorgasbord of a story. Help yourself to the buffet!

Finally, Somebody Got it Right.......2006-10-26
Reviewer: Loni Smith (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
Included with Jamellah Ellis' novel, this is the most wonderful Christian romance novel ever told. I'm not sure if the author really and truly understands what she has written. It is written very spiritually. Only God could instruct this story. There is so much truth to the way the characters lives are written and the way they are intertwined into each other's lives, according to the Holy scriptures. There are books that are far, few and in between that would get a 5 star rating from me. Yall know how brutally honest I am about these matters; however, I must give honor to where honor is due. Author Griggs has done an outstanding job with this delightful and engaging read. I highly, highly recommend this read. A whopping 5.0 on the SmithScale. I don't particularly like Christian romance because most of them are pure sugarcane and fairytale-ish. I'd much rather prefer Christian drama stories because they are more realistic. But please, if you only read one Christian romance per year, let it be this one. If you can't afford to buy it, go to the library to see if they offer it, but get it the best way you can. THIS IS A MUST READ!
But it's truly sad to go from a 5 star novel to a 0 star novel with its sequel, Wings of Grace.
Good Reading!!.......2006-01-29

More than Jordan.......2004-08-07
This novel was excellent. I am so glad that she took the time to express that there are still some individuals in this world that still maintain integrity. Not all people are out for themselves. For me it was well written, kept me wanting to read more.
Don't judgement before you know the facts........2004-06-23
This is the first time I have read anything by Vanessa Davis Griggs. I thoroughly enjoy reading this book. I believe a lot of us have experienced loving someone we could never have. This book kept my attention so long that I was able to read it in one day. This book also hold truth that everything is not always as it seems. This is why as Chiristians we need to keep an open mind about things until we know the facts. We are always in a hurry to pass judgement on Ministers. I will look for more of Ms. Griggs' work.

Customer Reviews:
THE MAGYAR VENUS.......2007-03-17
I am Hungarian born and since 1996 have visited one of the "Venus" sites in Austria, along the Danube (THE VENUS OF WILLENDORF). Familiar as I am with the subject, Ms. Hamilton has still taught me something new, interesting, and she did it in her usual "painless" way. Of course, the murder mystery portion is also interesting...breathtakingly interesting.
If you have never travelled to Budapest or if you have or if you want to, this book is for you. if you want an "edge of your seat" exciting experience, read the book. I dare you to put it down without finishing it.
Twisted Plot.......2006-05-28
Even if you only read the cover, the author still deceived you. The Magyars conquered Hungary about 800 AD and the venus goes back a few thousand years.
I also noted every one of Hamilton's Hungarians was either shady, greedy, or both. Worst of all, her plot was filled with unlikely coincidences.
I grew up in a Hungarian family and so I regret the author didn't take advantage of Hungarian culture. For example, Hungarian is the world's most pretty language but the author hardly mentioned it. The author also could have written more about Hungarian cuisine.
Hungarian cold cuts and sausage have a very unusual flavor that is unlike anything else in the world. Outside Hungary very few people know the taste sensation of a good Hurka.
It's not always the artifact that is fake ..........2006-04-28
Hamilton's the Magyar Venus is another well told tale of intrigue, friendships, lost love(s), and archaeological treasure. I love these books and I've always been fond of the Venus figures so this was a treat.
Lara McClintoch has broken up with Rob Luczka and she really doesn't want to have to explain it to Rob who wants to get back together with her. So when she meets an old college roommate agrees to meet for drinks and meet the old gang before the museum opening. But Lara gets more than a night of entertainment when she's drugged, one of the Divas turns up dead, and another is fired from her job. Lara agrees to research the provenance of the Venus. She learns more than she bargained for when her old college love wants to rekindle the flame and she believes something is wrong with the Venus.
There's plenty of excitement and we travel from Toronto, to England and Hungary. Once again Lara is our guide in the world of antiques, art, and history.
As good as they come.......2005-10-14
As usual Lyn Hamilton has written a great mystery! This one is as good as all the others. Somehow she makes all her books feel "new" even though they have the same theme. They never get boring or tedious. Being a European myself, I like the way a lot of her plots revolve around European cities and countries. She aparently knows a lot about the places she write, and also a lot about antiquites and history. I am looking forward to her writing about Sweden some day. If you like her other books, this is a sure bet! I hope she will continue writing for many many years to come.
a mystery thriller for the summer.......2004-06-27
Lara mcclintoch attends an opening at the cottingham to witness the unveiling of a twenty five thousand year old artifact , the magyar venus and wakes up with a terrible hangover;a freind is dead, the cottingham has been broken into and Laras car is missing.the worst part is Lara cant remember if she had anything to do with the break in or her freinds death.
Laras college pals, the Dovercourt divas, suspect the Magyar Venus is a fake and that cottingham curator,Karoly Molnar an old lover of Laras is behind the ruse. Driven by conscience Lara agrees to track down the provenance of the Magyar Venus and solve the riddle of her freind Annas death
Lara travels to Budapest where the venus was supposedly found but her instincts tell her theres a missing link in the chain of provenance.something in the diaries of the British explorer.Cyril Piper, who suppsedly discovered the Venus just isnt right. But what?when Mihaly Kovacs, the dealer who sold the Venus to Molnar refuses to answer questions and then turns up dead Lara realizes her instincts are right.Piece by piece an ancient mystery involving deceit, murder, betrayal and greed draw Lara into a web of danger that her thirst for justice require her to unravel.Employing painstaking scolarship and more then a touch of true grit Lara insures that all players, past and present,in the deadly game involving the Magyar Venus receive their just reward.
Written with a scholars knowledge of Archaeology,THE MAGYAR VENUS is a fascinating tale of good and evil providing readers a spellbinding mystery as deep and impenetrable as the caves that house the secrets or prehistoric man.A must read for any lover of a good mystery.

Typical shadowrun novel, But not half bad.......2000-07-23
this novel was all right...for a shadowrun book, but other than that it wasn't particulary that good. The writing was very bland. The characters were poorly underdeveloped and the story was slow. The author needs to develop the characters more and put a lot more description in the overall story, The introduction of a new dragon was pretty cool and also the involvement of Lowfry which is a character not written about to often in the shadowrun universe. The books in the shadowrun universe need to be better written. All the books seem to follow a trend of having the same plot outline. I would like to see more effort be put into shadowrun books. This book was not bad though. It was a good read although it was like reading a manual. The author did a descent job of it, just needs to work more on character development and overall plot.
About Time.......2000-07-20
This is not the best shadowrun book I have ever red it doesn't evan come close. What it is, is a good injoyable read plenty of guns magic and explosions Intresting people and places, with main characters you don't automaticly hate and wish someone would put out of your misery In short everything Shadowrun, those few books published lately, have been missing it got an extra star out of me in hopes of others following Mr Kenson lead A good read which I heartily recomend.
Armageddon with a twist.......2000-04-02
It's been a while since we've been graced with a Shadowrun novel, and this one was pretty good. It centers around Talon (from Crossroads and the Dragon Heart trilogy before that), which of course means more high magic. This one is a standard "shadowrun" type story in that it's actually about a team of runners, hired by a Johnson, going on the mission, et al. Why did I like it? The story was interesting, had some different elements that kept you guessing, the characters were good, and it was set in a different location (Germany), which is new as far as Shadowrun novels go. What didn't I like? I'd like to see some new characters! Talon is an interesting focus, powerful mage, neat magic item, etc., but I'd like to see some variety in the SR universe since FASA hasn't been putting out as many novels lately. Final verdict - if you're a fan of the Shadowrun universe, check it out. A key player in the SR mythos is featured that hasn't been used that much, and besides that it's a good story. I just can't wait until the next one!

Customer Reviews:
Thin on basketball, thick on religion.......2001-09-24
Believe it or not, this book is basically an attempt to convince you that devoting your life to Christ will make you a better basketball player. I don't have a problem with anyone who writes such a book, or anyone who wants to read it. But the book's description ought to be honest about the book's agenda. If you skip the stuff about religion, the book has very little useful information about basketball.
Too many anectodes, not technical enough.......2001-06-30
I was expecting a book getting very technical about the guard play, with numerous drills and practice examples. I've found a very short book, full of life anectodes from the 2 authors. It could really be improved with more pictures, diagrams, etc...
Outstanding book!!!.......1999-06-16
This book gives young players the motivation to learn and practice the necessary fundamentals of guard play.
guard play.......1999-05-26
Guard Play is a great book for anyone who wants to become a better basketball player and especially guards. I am reading this book in the summer before my freshman year of college in order to prepare myself for college workouts. If you are willing to follow the workouts suggested by the book and even increase them, this book will do you a great service
Informative will increase ones knowledge of the game........1998-07-08
As a personal friend of Steve Alford this will increase one`s knowledge of the game, focusing on guard play. Alford`s basketball wisdom is incredible as was his game. This is a must read for anyone who wants to learn more about basketball, especially becoming a better guard!

Basketball Offenses & Plays.......2006-05-18
What was really nice about this book is the variety of offenses it covered. This book covered every offensive situation that can happen. I also like the fact that the sets and plays have names. I was able to implement some of thes plays into our offense.
This book is a big help to coaches who are looking to get good shots for their scorers or getting everyone involved. It is also filled with info for different styles of teams. I found this book to be helpful throughout the high school season. This book will sharpen your ideas and visions of what coaching basketball includes. I would suggest this book to anyone who wants to learn about offensive basketball. Great reading, and a great learning tool.
