I'd love to see more reviews about the actual book instead of being critical of the readers reviews...anyhoo...I'm afraid I was bored to tears, I skimmed it, hated the characters and lack of anything significant occurring in between the pages. I'm afraid to try any other titles from this author, I won't be duped again!
Obvious Rushed ending .......2005-11-09
So this was my first ever vampire romance novel and let's just say it left a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth (no pun intended).
At the beginning I was excited as the plot started to unfold but then it became a bit tiring.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Dominic, he was strong, sensual and intelligent, everything I would expect a vampire to be. I just couldn't understand his love for Tracy.
She knew her feelings for him but still kept on denying him the one thing he wanted and had waited for for centuries and then at the end when he changed her, without her permission, she accepted it with no major blow up. When that happened I was like huh? I mean she had freaked out more when Bryan was changed than when she was.
And could there not have been a more romantic place to have a honeymoon than Caesar's Palace? He's a vampire that has travelled the world over hundreds of times. I mean come on...Morocco, Switzerland, Greece?
And the fact that Kitana decided to marry Bryan made me think that Ashley just wanted to wrap up everything too tidily.
I'm not a person to drop an author after one book so I will give her a try once more.

Good Enough for Me!.......2005-07-20
This was the first paranormal romance I have ever read, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I love vampres though, and Dominic turned out to be everything I had imagined a vampire to be. He was seductive, lonely, and powerful. However, since it was set in present day, I would have been creeped out by him if I was Tracy. He was too foward, too soon, and spoke strangely. And there is no way that end would have happened in reality. Throughout the entire book she acted one way, and at the very end she switched completely! And that whole thing between her and Bryan was too weird for me. Half of the book was difficult to get through, but the rest I couldn't put down. After all was said and done, I loved the ending.

A Masterpiece of Mystic Poetry.......2006-06-29
This is a beautiful book, filled with poems that not only touch the heartstrings, but uplift and expand the spirit. In the West, we've had some great mystic poets (St. John of the Cross, et al), but, in my opinion, these verses surpass in beauty and inspiration anything of their kind written to date.
While reading Whispers, one can sense that Yogananda was a great lover of God. As one continues to read, one feels the author's mood overcoming one's own. It steals over and enthralls you, drowning out the noisy world with the power of inner rapture and silence.
Whether or not you are of devotional temperament, if you love beauty and goodness, you would appreciate this book.
How a master prays from the heart.......2002-11-28
Note that there are two editions of Yogananda's Whispers from Eternity in print from Self-Realization Fellowship. As of this writing, Amazon stocks only the red hardback (no dust jacket) "First Version" from 1929 ( ISBN 0876121024 ), but given a date of 1998 in the Amazon listing. Yogananda revised and enlarged his original 1929 volume in 1939, and this second version has been released in several editions (9th in 1986) by Self-Realization Fellowship (ISBN 0876121032), attractively illustrated with monochrome and color inspirational photographs. The second version (those words do not appear prominently in it or on it) is gorgeous, but you may have to acquire it directly from the publisher, and it does omit some remarkable, highly spontaneous works contained in the First Version.
The publisher explains that the reprinting of the First Version since 1981 (with the later date: 1998 in Amazon's listing: ISBN 0876121024 ), was released because sentiment for the earlier version persisted among some of his most devoted followers. "This volume is a photographic reproduction of the (1929) work with omission only of four readings used in Self-Realization Fellowship ceremonies..." Although the modernized later version makes a better gift to a newcomer to Yogananda, long-time students will really appreciate the intimate feel of many of the early wordings. In particular, the First Version includes his "Prayer at Dawn", "Prayer at Noon" ( in the wordings you can still hear in recordings of the yoga master's own voice), "Prayer-Demand Before Taking Food", etc.
The First Version's introduction also has an interesting explanation of why Yogananda's title (Paramahansa) sometimes appeared as Paramhansa in early work (a function of Bengali pronunciation's tendency to drop the middle 'a' sound) and why the full word param-ahansa (supreme swan) is the clearer communication of the Sanskrit title.
In either version, the prayers, loving demands, chants, and poems are touching reflections of the great master's intimate connection with the Divine -- his Mother-Father-Friend-Beloved, as he would humbly address Spirit. No cold, carefully reasoned theology here -- just pure and simple love.

This a book of answered prayers that expounds the very mysteries of how a pray becomes successful. Anyone who has been captured by Autobiography of Yogi must make this part of their library.
A MAGIC BOOK!.......2000-04-30
I have a depressive disorder. I am have also been involved with substance abuse (Valium) and occasional alcohol abuse. Brother Bhaktananda initiated me into kriya yoga in 1983 and was a disciple of Yogananda's while the latter was still living. Once I was drunk and I called Brother Bhaktananda last year. I was just through! I was drunk and crying. I asked for advice. Bhaktananda told me to use chants. One was "Scientific Healing Affirmations". The other was "Whispers from Eternity". Just to read a little bit from each book. I asked him if I could still reach enlightenment in this life. He said yes. But I was just going through a rough time and many lessons. He is usually so sullen. But now he was so kind. I told him I loved him. He said he loved me. This book is beautiful. But very esoteric. Like flowers. At first, it just looks like a book of poetry. So it is very subtle. And, sometimes, this can work the best. It can get beyond the head and into the heart for real healing. The pictures in this book themselves are real healing. They touch your heart. As do the wonderful prayers. Sometimes you just have to relax, I feel, and let go. This book is not a must read. It's simply "must" medicine for your soul. I talked to Brother Bhaktananda a week later when I was sober. I still told him I loved him. He said, "And we all love you. We are praying for you, Bill."

Murder in War Time Britain-- Miss Silver to the Rescue.......2004-02-09
The Pilgrims have not been having a good War. Pilgrim Pater was killed in a riding accident while his son Roger was overseas and just after he had broke the entail to sell his white elephant of a house, Pilgrim's Rest. Captain Jerome is a semi-invalid due to his psychological response to the wounds he received at Dunkirk-- thank goodness for his devoted nurse who tries so hard to keep him from becoming excited. Nephew Henry Clayton who had worked for the Information Ministry disappeared on the eve of his wedding to a local heiress between the time he was observed leaving his house and the front door of his fiance's house a few dozen yards away. Jack was taken prisoner by the Japanese in Singapore and his fate is unknown.
When Roger comes home to Pilgrim's Rest to wind up his father's affairs though, he barely escapes two nearly fatal accidents that might have been attempts on his life. On the advice of an old friend who works for Scotland Yard he asks Miss Silver to come to his home and investigate the situation there. Miss Silver, of course, is only too delighted.
There's lots of stuff crammed this mystery which keeps the interest. However, there are some negatives including an overly precious child. The darling Penny talks in a way I can't imagine even British WWII toddlers talking, lisping adorable little things as she charms one and all. She luckily is removed a safe place about half way through the book.
Finally, the resolution of the plot relies way too much on intuition, coincidence, and a villain who can't keep quiet. Of course the villain sticks out a mile as well.
However, if you like British cozies where spinster detectives knit jumpers and socks as she searchs for clues and is always one step ahead of the police then grab this one.
Murder in wartime Britain.......2000-08-15
An old house with a curse on it--people dying left and right--but what really stuck in my mind was the picture of the young woman left alone to care for her preschool niece, after the child's parents were killed in an air raid.
As usual in Miss Silver books, there are nice people and nasty ones, and the nice ones don't suddenly turn around and murder for gain--which I must say, is a bit more realistic than some other mystery writers' books. And Miss Silver knits busily, picking up the strands of the case with as much ease as the yarn on her needles. Amazing how soothing a murder can be.

interesting start to a possibly excellent series.......1999-01-21
I first read this book when it was new in 1988. The characters were well thought out and the plot line was engaging. The author however left us hanging. What happened to Valk the Ear? Did she return and get him? At the end of the book the author promotes a second book but none was ever written to my knowledge. Ms. Salmonson if you are out there please finish this tale.

Clearly written! Excellent choice of exercises! This will make a good reading for anyone even remotely interested in making decisions in health care or medicine. The methods and techniques elucidated here will be useful at all levels of the health care system. Get a copy of this book and do not drop it until you've read it all. Probably, the most comprehensible state-of-the-art textbook of medical decision sciences devoid of undue jargon.
