Book Description
The modern-day Hadassah, already introduced to readers, is the wife of Israel's Prime Minister. The inner pain she feels as her beloved land and people are terrorized by political strife is made even more personal as her own father comes under attack. An antiquities expert discovers ancient documents bridging the centuries and pointing to another conspiracy, one that has tragic implications for modern-day Jews living in Iraq and Iran, where Queen Esther had laid her own life on the line to save her people. Can Hadassah's already fragile marriage survive the request she must make?

The Hadassah Covenant.......2007-09-27
I am thrilled that Tommy Tenny wrote The Hadassah Covenant. I enjoyed reading
Hadassah and I wanted more. I wanted to know what happened to Hadassah (Esther) after she left her position as Queen, what was
her destiny? She was a powerful women of the Bible. Yes, The Hadassah Covenant
is fiction, but it gave me closeture and satisfied by soul. I loved reading about what might have happened, because we
do not know what misfortune could befall the people of that time period. I am so glad you wrote this book. Thank you Tommy.
a great read.......2007-08-16
I enjoyed this book - a real pageturner! Remember, this is historical fiction - NOT the Bible! Tenney did a great job though with the actual historical content.
A great idea communicated through audio.......2006-03-28
Here is an audio based on the life of biblical Queen Esther. In Tenney's ancient Persia (now Iraq and Iran), the king is brutally murdered, and Esther (Hadassah) wonders what her role might be in continuing to further God's plan for her people. She ends up helping her uncle Mordecai in preparing Leah, a lovely young Jew, for her "audition" night with the new king. In a parallel contemporary story, the Israeli prime minister's wife, Hadassah (a descendent of Leah), must delve into the past to resolve a tragic standoff with terrorists who threaten the lives of contemporary Jews living anonymously in the Middle East.
My wife loved it........2006-03-09
I bought this for a gift to my wife. She couldn't put it down and just sent it to her best friend. Rev. Tommy Tenney is one of our favorites.
A well-researched and enjoyable novel .......2006-03-03
Picking up where the biblical book of Esther leaves off, THE HADASSAH COVENANT traces the fate of a concubine named Leah whose Jewish ancestry prevents her from becoming the queen of Persia during the Babylonian exile of the Jews from Jerusalem. Years earlier, Esther, then the queen, had befriended her, and the ongoing exchange of letters between the two women provides crucial clues to historical events that reverberate down to the present day.
Those events place Hadassah (the Jewish name for Esther), the wife of the present-day prime minister of Israel, in the critical role of saving the lives of "hidden Jews" who are being hunted down and killed by militant Muslims in Iraq. Unable or reluctant to leave Iraq decades earlier, many Jews had hidden their ancestry by taking on Arabic names and assimilating into the culture; now their identities have been revealed, and their lives are at stake. Several brutal murders of adults and children have even been shown on television.
The link between the ancient Israelites in Persia and the contemporary Jews in Iraq is Mordecai, Queen Esther's uncle and adoptive father who had served as "exilarch," one who represented the entire Jewish population during the exile. The letters between Esther and Leah, which tell the rest of the story about Mordecai, offer the key to a peaceful resolution to the wave of terror that has struck Iraqi Jews.
Enter the Mossad, the secret service of Israel, and one Mossad agent in particular who discovers and carefully guards the ancient letters as he analyzes their content. He and Hadassah share an important link, and they join forces in applying what they've learned from the past to forging a plan for peace in the present.
Tommy Tenney and Mark Andrew Olsen do a credible job of imagining what might have happened in the lives of Esther and Mordecai and placing that possibility as a backdrop for present-day tensions in the Middle East. They've done their research, and on a technical level --- the book is highly detailed with regard to secret intelligence and covert operations, and the weapons and technology that make both possible --- it's all plausible. I had no problem believing that any of the governmental or terrorist actions could actually happen. The link with Esther, not so much, though it makes for a great story. Once I got past some of the unlikely scenarios and settled back into the story, I found myself genuinely enjoying it.
From what I gather, if you've read the first book in the series --- HADASSAH: ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING --- you may be a bit let down by this one, which makes me glad I didn't read the first one. With nothing to compare it to, I got caught up in both the present-day story and the ancient letters. Sure, I had a hard time imagining the Israeli prime minister calling his wife "honey" (isn't that a purely American term of endearment?), just as I found it hard to believe that there could be two green-eyed Israelis named Hadassah (the second being a child who narrowly escapes slaughter). And yes, I'd like to circulate a petition calling for a moratorium on green-eyed beauties in Christian novels for at least a decade. But these are minor annoyances and, I suspect, problems for me alone. Same with the cover, which brings the word "cheesy" to mind. But don't judge a book by it and all that. The content is much, much better.

NO END FOR THE DE BERGH SAGA!!.......2006-10-10
I got one of the books from an old stack when we were cleaning out my grandmothers house and have been searching for the rest of the books online. I have not been dissapointed! Everyone is as good as the last. These are books I read over and over again and still feel the anticipation and tension between the characters every time.
The sad part is that without a current publisher Simmons will never be able to publish Reynold & Nicolas' stories.
I hold out hope that someday the right person will want these published and will have the power to do something about it.

Unexpected Guest.......2007-04-02
All Agatha Christie is excellent. The only time I find AC lacking is when someone has adapted one of her plays as a novel. You can tell it was a play and it does not flow like Christie novels. However, you can't beat the real thing.
Guest.......2005-11-03
Apsolutno jedan od najboljih napisanih komada velicanstvene gospodje Christie. Roman koji tece kao lavina. Od momenta kada otvorite prvu stranicu necete moci da stanete do samoga kraja.
Remekdelo.
A posthumous Christie with a vengeance.......2005-02-05
After getting his car stuck in a ditch next to a desolate road hidden in thick mist, Michael Starkwedder walks to a cottage to get some help. To his surprise he notices that the front door of the cottage is ajar. Once inside the house he finds a woman with a gun in her hand, crouched next to a lifeless body. The woman, Laura Warwick, immediately admits to having killed her husband. Michael decides to help the woman to cover up her crime, but never expected to get involved so deeply into the intrigues of a guilt ridden family.
The Unexpected Guest is an original play by Christie and as such not based upon a novel or short story. The play opened at the Duchess Theatre, London, on August 12, 1958, and ran for 604 performances. It is considered to be one of the better Christie plays, but cannot be compared to her absolute masterpiece The Mousetrap. Charles Osborne, the nephew of Christie, did an excellent job in translating the play into a full novel. The original Christie touch is still present and by reading the book you can almost smell the theater curtains and hear the silent coughing of the audience. No question about this: Christie would have loved this adaptation.
Print the Play Instead.......2005-01-11
Osborne adds nothing to our pleasure, and the way he expands tags of the stage directions is pretty irritating. I hope they paid him a lot of money to do these hack jobs on Christie's already perfect plays, because he sure killed whatever credibility he had as a poet, critic and essayist. HJe wrote a good book on Agatha Christie, but why go to him to turn the plays into novels? Surely a fiction writer would have been a better choice.
The Unexpected Guest wasn't even one of Christie's plays but when it is played properly on stage the character of Richard Warwick gets analyzed from many different perspectives until it becomes like Citizen Kane, a prism of a dead man's life. For better or worse (and usually for worse) he affected the lives of everyone around him--his wife, his mother, his retarded half-brother Jan, and others. I wonder what Christie originally intended to do with her tale's biggest loophole--what happened to Nurse Warburton, the corrupt nurse whom Richard Warwick bribed to give false testimony during the inquest into the death of the boy he ran over? I always imagine that, if the police dug deeper, they would find that "Warby" had been murdered also--shot to death, just like Richard. What do you fans think?
2nd in trilogy of plays.......2004-11-12
This is the 2nd and middle book of the 3 Osborne adaptations of Agatha Christie plays into novel form. I think it's the middling of the three in quality as well. The 1st was "Black Coffee" and the 3rd was "Spider's Web." All 3 read more like plays than novels--so if you are expecting the normal Christie novel, you may very well be disappointed. However, if you have read the novels, this is a lovely addition to your list of Christie's and a rare opportunity to envision her plays. True, the plays could just as easily have been bound and published. But, Osborne has apparently done little, if anything, to detract from the plays themselves. So, IMHO, he has done a service both to Christie and to the mystery reading public by publishing these works. As for the content, this particular work is great fun! I loved the story, the twists and turns (and there are many of them), the cleverness, etc. It IS after all, a Christie! And quite a good one at that. Enjoy!

Not unexpected results.......2007-06-14
As expected, a typical Christie plot twist awaits the reader at the end. But getting there a long, tedious journey. The adaptation of the play doesn't work as a novel and I only stuck with it to see what Christie had in mind. This is easily read with only one setting (as in the play). I won't seek out the other plays-turned-novels.
Note: the listing on Amazon for the "Acting Version" has many reviews, which mostly refer to the novelization. This is one of Amazon's main annoying points -- books with multiple versions often have multiple listings with reviews, so it's difficult to get a clear picture without a lot of hunting. Amazon's method of listing multiple versions of books also gets 2 stars.

The Magic of Alan Wakeling: The Works of a Master Magician
ASIN: 0916638480 |
Product Description
The autobiography of David Bamberg records the adventurous life and perceptive observations of one of the last great traveling showmen. Robert Parrish, who edited the book, calls it "the most engaging and illuminating document of its kind produced by a professional magician in the 20th century." As the stage magician Fu Manchu, David Bamberg spent 35 years touring Latin America and Spain with a full-evening show combining original and artistic illusions with elements of comedy and revue. Written in a candid, conversational style, Bamberg's book is a rare show business account telling of the competition and struggles after attaining success. Many personalities enliven his story, including Orson Welles who proclaimed Bamberg's book "the greatest autobiography in magic."

Illusion Show Review.......2000-04-27
I'm reading Illusion Show for the second time now and I find it more fascinating than the first time. If your interests are in vaudeville theatre, 1930s stageshows, magic history, latin american entertainment, or you just enjoy biographies, this book is a must. David Bamberg is the last in a long line of magicians. He made his fame and fortune in the latin american countries during the 30's and 40's. His show has been described by many as the BEST ILLUSION SHOW of the 20th Century, surpassing Kellar, Thurston, Blackstone,Dante, Houdini and all the rest. David Bamberg was a genious without a doubt and as a full time Magical Illusionist I highly recommend this book to everyone interested in the history of showbusiness.
An exciting tale of a great 20th century illusionist........1999-11-16
I highly recommend this book if you have an interest in magicalhistory. Bamberg not only relates his personal experience with manygreats (family friend of Houdini, Thurston, Okito) but has a wonderful storytelling style. He was quite a character with an amazing life story to share. At times, i found myself laughing out loud. The book beat all of my expectations and is highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Amusing, common sense read.......2003-12-08
While I agree with some other reviewers that this author repeats information given by other sources, that is hardly a reason for not reading this book. Lots of authors have done the same thing in their books. Anyway, Dr. Bost, is very funny and I imagine he is understanding and caring as a doctor. I found this book very helpful and insightful. Sometimes we all the need obvious pointed out to us! Dr. Bost does that in a way that is not condescending or patronizing. I found he was able to cover a lot of ground in this book, mentioning areas of life that we frequently overlook that contribute to the overall condition of our lives. Check it out for your self and decide on your own.
Mostly a waste of my time.......2003-11-27
I purchased this book so I might learn to improve my relationships, health, and energy so I can be a better person to myself, husband, and two small children. While it does offer medical information (on a basic level) of causes for fatigue and other points on the modern day stresses women face, it does not reveal any new ideas. One example is the idea behind weight management. The approach is similar to Weight Watchers -- using formulas and diaries. While it is a smart approach it does not integrate well for the hurried woman. Overall a disappointment... I did not find this book inspiring, helpful, or healing.
I don't recommend this book.......2003-11-04
The above reviews are at odds with my reading - are we talking about the same book? Are the other reviewers friends/family? This is a derivative book which repeats other, original sources, using sophomoric humor which I found condescending and offensive. The author states his opinion as fact, on a number of medical issues which are actually quite controversial. I can't believe that he mentions specific anti-depressants by name, and at least one of those anti-depressant companies (Zoloft) is handing the book out to drs' offices for free. The author is in favor of MOST women being on antidepressants and hormone therapy, which I think should certainly be an individual decision.
The last 20 or so pages about how to de-stress your life are good, for people who've never heard of getting out of debt, downsizing, cutting down on kids' crazy extracurricular activities...but, here again, it's all been said before, and better, by original authors. Check it out from the library if you must read it, and pay attention to the other authors he quotes from.
Unhurried.......2002-04-30
I recentily read the book, And I was amazed at what the writer wrote. It was me. I've tried many things to help with the problems of my daily life. This book helped me tremendicily. I had the honor of meeting the author, such a wonderful caring man.
A life saver!.......2001-09-11
I was sinking fast; caught up in my work, all the activities my kids dragged me to and from, and my husband's job called him away from home a lot. I had run out of energy, gained about 25 pounds, and lost my interest in passion --- I was dead inside! My husband and I started seeing a counselor, but we were getting nowhere. I went to my doctor for a check up and she gave me a copy of this book and it has literally changed my life! I didn't realize how sick I was making myself feel through all of the stress I was heaping on top of me. The Hurried Woman is really 4 books; A book on fatigue, one on weight control, a book to improve your relationships, and one for getting control of stress all in one. I already called and thanked my doctor. If your suffering like I was, use this book as a guide and feel good again!

Book Description
Explains how women can overcome the physical and emotional fallout of living in a hurry-up world. Also called predepression, hurried women syndrome affects 30 million women annually in the United States. The Hurried Woman Syndrome offers the first integrated program for overcoming the symtoms that could lead to full-blown clinical depression.
Amazon.com
Here's another "disorder" that didn't exist in your grandmother's day. Gynecologist Brent Bost has dubbed "the hurried woman syndrome" a problem he says affects 30 million Americans: a stress-induced combination of "fatigue, moodiness, weight gain, and low libido." He uses the term interchangeably with "pre-depression," as these symptoms often spiral the sufferer into clinical depression.
Bost touts the benefits of regulating women's neurotransmitters, and doesn't hesitate to recommend pharmaceutical assistance, primarily through prescription pills such as Zoloft and Wellbutrin. One could regret that he doesn't urge readers to seak therapy in conjunction with such pills; after all, he does admit feeling like a "gynechiatrist," since so many of his patients reveal their relationship troubles to him.
Bost says his 7-step approach for boosting vitality and health teaches "cognitive-behavioral coping strategies"; in other words, he hopes to help readers eradicate negative thinking. By thinking more positively, and (best of all) learning to make a heathy use if the word "no", he says women can minimize the effects of stress on their bodies, helping to regain their sense of joy and self-esteem.--Erica Jorgensen

Also called predepression, hurried woman syndrome affects 30 million women annually in the United States. HWS is most commonly found in mothers who live with the chronic stress of trying to fulfill many roles for many people and is characterized by a set of chronic physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms that can include fatigue, weight gain, moodiness, sleep problems, and low libido. Torn between the demands of managing childrens school and activities, keeping up a home, work (paid or volunteer), social obligations, and more, hurried women feel as if they are on an endless emotional roller-coaster ride. Unfortunately, most HWS sufferers are unaware that they have a clinically identified and treatable problem. With proper guidance, most sufferers can quickly reverse the symptoms of HWS and regain their energy and love of life. Without it, they are in serious danger of developing full-blown clinical depression.

Customer Reviews:
A good treatment of Stress Induced Health Problems in women.......2005-12-13
I was intrigued about the title and set out to find out what the good doctor meant by that. And I am really happy that I read this book, courtsey McGraw-Hill. Though I am a man, I could relate to many points explained by Dr. Bost in the book since my own wife was and is going through some of the symptoms so vividly described. And, as Dr.Bost explains, there are many symptoms common to both sexes, caused by too much hurry and worry. My spiritual mentor who is also an Ayurvedic Healer always refers to the three ingredients of several health problems: hurry, worry and curry, the last referring to the spicy food which is consumed for stimulation and for satisfaction of the taste buds.
The book deals with the group of symptoms (that is why the word Syndrome comes into use) commonly affecting a large number of women in USA (and probably many other developed and developing countries too). The Hurried Woman Syndrome deals with the adverse effects of chronic stress produced by trying to do too many things at a time, typical of a successful life.
The book is divided into two parts. The first part, titled, "UNDERSTANDING HURRIED WOMAN SYNDROME" has 5 chapters:
1) Life as a Hurried Woman
2) Stress and How it Affects Your Brain and Your Life
3) Are You a Hurried Woman?
4) Using Cognitive-Behavioral Coping Skills and
5) The Role of Antidepressants.
I learnt a lot and also got confirmation of some ideas which were building up in my own mind over the course of the last few years.
The Second Part is "YOUR SEVEN-STEP PLAN FOR BETTER LIFE BALANCE" and consists of 8 chapters (yes, not seven as is obviously expected!). They are:
6) Step 1 - Create Balance in your Body
7) Step 2 - Find the Right Caloric Balance
8) Step 3 - Exercise, No Matter What!
9) Get Started on the Program (I thought that by that time, the reader is already on the program)
10) Step 4 - Rekindling the Fire
11) Step 5 - Identify your Priorities and set Reasonable Limits
12) Step 6 - Get the Best of Stress and finally
13) Step 7 - Organise Your world.
Two Appendices and a Index follow. A fairly comprehensive coverage and a good road map for a workable program.
The book is VERY WELL WRITTEN and is highly readable. And as is to be rightly expected from McGraw-Hill, very well edited. However, as a Quality Assurance Professional and as an Editor, I was delighted that I could catch a few slips! But let me hasten to assure you that the book is of real quality and you will get the message clearly. The printing is good and the readability is good. The conversational style adopted is quite effective.
The author sticks to mainstream medical knowledge and suggests cognitive-behavioral therapy and herbs as adjunct or alternative for treatment of depression. He doesn't advocate the several alternative / complementary treatment options for stress and depression. In a way, that is to be expected since he has been trained in the mainstream medicine and also since he got good results with a number of his clients with the program suggested.
The book is very informative and will help not only the Hurried Woman but also her harried family members (yes, every one suffers when the lady of the family suffers, husband, children, even parents, friends etc.), recognise the hurried woman amongst them and help her. Just check out the first and the third chapter. If you recognise yourself or your wife/mom/sister etc., in that description, I would recommend that you go ahead and buy/gift the book. It may just be right thing that the doctor has prescribed. However, like all books of self-help, you need to practise what is written. Reading and understanding is the preliminary step.
About the reviewer: I am a physicist and a metallurgist, not a medical man. Thus I am a lay reader as far as health books are concerned. However, I have been deeply interested in health (partly because of my own health challenges) for long. I have studied Homeopathy, Biochemic (Schussler's) Tissue Remedies, Bach Flower Remedies, Reiki (I am a certified Usui Reiki Master Healer), Crystal Healing etc. I would strongly advise you to seek the advice of a health professional before trying out the program outlined in the book.
Dr. B is the Best.......2005-07-21
He is my doc. And he is great! The book is practical, and wonderful. Women unite we are not alone and this is one male doctor who really sees us!
WHAT AN AWESOME BOOK.......2005-05-18
I saw this book at the library and couldn't resist. After reading the first few chapters...I was sure the author wrote the book about me. I cannot believe that there are 50 million women out there that feel like I do. I took into consideration many of the 7 step processes and 6 weeks later I see and feel the difference. Drugs are not always the solution to depression, but it is a sometime a great step at realizing how to over come it. I liked this book so much that I decided to buy it for future reference to keep me on track!!
Wonderful........2005-04-07
After reading this book, I was surprised not see any other rave reviews on this page! Dr. Bost does an excellent job of explaining the symptoms of his syndrome, effective ways to remedy this rising epidemic, and although he suggests medication for some cases, he also gives great "self help" methods to accomodate categories such as stress, marriage management, and parenting. "The Hurried Woman Syndrome" is a humorous, insightful book for the modern woman--a must read! Not to be critical, but the "Amazon Review" misspelled "seek". Sorry.
