Miss Julia is the grandmother we wish we all could have! This is a thoroughly enjoyable book -part of a series- Each story seems more hillarious than the first- Ann B. Ross captures a true "free spirit" if one can imagine the prim, proper, regular Presbyterian attender Miss Julia as a Free Spirit! Read all the books- you won't be disappointed!
"Thay Lord" Whatever that means..........2007-07-16
The first I've ever heard that statement was with Miss Julia. The first book was actually a whole lot better than this one for me. Miss Julia does seem to me to be the "take over" type. In this book she becomes an assistant private dectective. Although I don't know how long Miss Julia will go on breaking the law without being punished, its fun to read about her adventures. I would actually give this one 3.5 stars because it's not as good, but good enough that I will read the next in the series. This one I rented from the library because I didn't want to wait for it to arrive in the mail. Turns out that was a good idea.

This is such a delightful book. It is a quick, easy read but so enjoyable. I had read this book some time ago and decided to send it to my son and daughter-in-law, both big readers. They have enjoyed it as much as I did.

This book epitomizes the spirit of the Southern woman facing and overcoming unexpected obstacles of life. Miss Julia, recently widowed, discovers her husband didn't really live up all of the high principles and standards to which he held his wife. In the course of cleaning up the messes left behind, Miss Julia finds hidden resources of strenght and ingenuity. Wonderful read - as are all of the sequels. Highly recommended.

Miss Julia is as delightful a heroine as you can imagine. Prim, proper, and Presbyterian, she has an opinion about everything and does her best to oversee the sometimes unacceptable behavior of those around her. To her friends, though, she is as loyal as can be, as evidenced by her frantic search for her housemate, Hazel Marie, in this second book of the series. Hazel Marie is on a date with a church fundraiser and fails to show up back at their house. She manages to make quick, frantic phone calls to Miss Julia which fail to give adequate information as to where she is, and just deepen the perky Presbyterian's concern. Miss Julia decides to hire a private investigator, J.D. Pickens, and she joins him in searching for Hazel Marie. Throw in a race-car driver, an elusive lucky charm, and the crooked evangelist, Uncle Vern, and you get some idea of the kind of wacky story this is. It's all in good fun, and is recommended reading.

I really enjoyed each of the Ella Clah series and forwarded them to my daughter in North Carolina. When she finished with them she passed them on to her daughter. 3 generations have had good clean reading enjoyment.
I grew up near the area so that makes the reading even more enjoyable as I picture the different areas.

They don't come much better than the Ella Clah series. The authors keep this book on a personal level so that you feel you know and understand the character. You feel her pain and her joy. One isn't enough. Buy them all.
A long running mystery where the heroine becomes the villain.......2001-02-19
Navaho Police Special Investigator Ella Clah and her cousin, police officer Justine Goodluck loudly argue in public over a recent incident. When a few days later, Justine's burnt bones are found partially buried on the top of RED MESA, everyone, including some members of her own family, conclude that Ella killed Justine. Even Ella's beloved mother believes her daughter has turned evil and wants to protect her infant grandchild from her.
While Ella flees to buy time and the truth behind Justine's murder, the law chases after her even more convinced she is an escaping killer. As the law gets closer to capturing her, Ella begins to unravel a plot to eliminate her. Will she be able to expose the dastardly scheme before her time runs out?
The fifth Clah entry is a great tale because the talented duo, Aimee & David Thurlo never lose sight of the scheme or the personalities of the cast. Even on the lam, Ella remains Ella, as fans know her. The plot works because the "plot" against Ella still retains plausibility even with the villains known early in the tale. The Thurlos talent resides in deep and thorough characterizations that lift their Native American police procedurals to a plane shared by the likes of Hillerman.

A great read. Showing that humans make the wrong choices, but can still turn their lives around. That we should live our beliefs, bring God out of the church and into our everyday lives. Of course the good guy gets the girl and the bad guy gets his "Just Reward".

Emerald Mystery is one of the best Spider-Man books that I have read! It had a great story and the book never bored me, not even for a paragraph! If you sre a Spider-Man fan and have not read this novel, then SHAME ON YOU! Even if your not a huge fan of the Web Slinger give this book a try, you should be very entertained with it!

TITLE- SPIDER-MAN: EMERALD MYSTERY
AUTHOR- DEAN WESLEY SMITH
SUMMARY- A PERSON DIED IN THE ALLEY AND THERE WAS A RADIATION SPOT NEXT TO HIM. THEN THERE WERE WEIRD ROBBERIES AFTER THE KILLING HAPPENING. SPIDERMAN AND BARB LIGHTNER JOIN UP TO STOP THE WEIRD ROBBERIES. THEY FOUND OUT WHO THE CRIMINAL WAS THAT WAS CAUSING ALL THE WEIRDNESS IN THE CITY FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS. THEY FOUND OUT THAT A EMERALD IS THE CAUSE OF HIS POWERS. THE PERSON WHO DIED WAS ON A CASE SO HE SAW THE EMERALD COME FROM THE SKY AND SO DID THE CRIMINAL, SO THE CRIMINAL SHOT HIM IN THE ALLEY AND GOT THE POWERS.
IMPORTANT SCENE- WHEN BARB WENT TO SHOOT THE EMERALD SPIDERMAN SAID, "NO! I SHOUTED AND TRIED TO KNOCK THE GUN ASIDE BY JUMPING IN FRONT OF HER." THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IF SPIDERMAN DIDN'T JUMP IN FRONT OF HER SHE COULD HAVE DIED.
OPINIONS- THE BOOK WAS GREAT. IT HAD A GOOD CLIMAX AND A GOOD RESOLUTION. IT HAD A GOOD ENDING LIKE ALL BOOKS WOULD END IN AN ACTION BOOK.
RECOMMENDATIONS- I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO MY PEERS BECAUSE EVERYBODY LIKES SPIDERMAN.
I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ADULTS AND OTHER SCHOOLS BECAUSE THEY MIGHT THINK IT'S NOT WORTH READING AND IT'S NOT A GOOD BOOK TO READ IN SCHOOLS.

I was surprised to see the reviews of this book were so bad! I spotted this book at Borders the day after buying the movie on DVD. One of the reasons I bought it was because it was the only Spider-Man book available.
But once I got home, I didn't regret the purchase for a minute. The author did an excellent job characterizing Spidey, the mystery was very well done and the siege towards the end was wonderful. This book actually got me interested in Spider-books again.
My only complaint was the illustrations being so... well, they were bad.
But the book was highly enjoyable. I suggest people read excerpts or browse in bookstores, rather than use reviews from this site when considering the purchase.

I hate that it was told from 1st person POV, and that really
took away from the book. Also, there were almost no familiar characters. I only suggest this book if you are a die-hard Barb Lightner fan.

I bought this book because I thought it would point me in the right direction nutritionally. It seems to me this is just an outright attack on nutrition WITHOUT real solutions. This is the classic "Tell you what's wrong without presenting realistic ways to make it right." I was very disappointed and there are plenty of other books that actually outline nutritional solutions that you could buy.

This book is excellent! It was insightful and I fully recommend it for the person who wants to open their "Third Eye!" I have always felt that the way I feel (mentally and physically) could be better and have always thought that there was some underlined destruction to our diet! If you want to save yourself from physiscal destruction as well as metal slavery, then get this book. If your are an africausian, then you will not be able to fully except what Mr. Afrika will enlighten you with. If we are taught european history in school and you except that, then why question someone who is a scholar and teacher of the YOUR his-story! This book is not for the eurocentrically brainwashed!

I heartily recommend this book for the uneducated and gullible. I'm astonished material like this gets published and marketed in any venue beyond insignificantly small vanity presses. Screeds like these are a tragic disservice to the vulnerable black community. Five stars for disinformation!
