The women Vince Browne meets in Los Angeles all seem to want rich men, gorgeous brothers, men without pasts. After watching yet another romantic prospect walk away, he decides to be less than honest with the next beautiful woman he meets: "I played the role and hid from my memories, told Dana I was a black man working hard every day, as single as a dollar bill, no kids, no ex-wives, no problems. With every word I dug my hole deeper." Of course, Dana has a few secrets of her own, but her chemistry with Vince convinces her she that can just start over without sharing such details. When this new couple's self-protective lies begin to unravel, they have to decide whether they even like each other--let alone how to overcome their hurt. One night in Vince's apartment, after learning about his divorce, Dana jumps up to dial *69 after someone calls and hangs up.
That was the first time she'd done that to me. There was a difference in her. In us. A hardness that comes when trust has thinned. Both of us had flipped, become the other side of a dented coin. Some sort of smile was on her face, but traces of her history were in her eyes.
Eric Jerome Dickey's devoted readers won't be disappointed with Liar's Game. As in Cheaters and Milk in My Coffee, his easy, conversational style, his humor, his well-rounded characters, and his sexy plot twists will keep the pages turning. He is one of very few writers presenting diverse, realistic images of middle-class African Americans with everyday concerns about jobs and education, finding and keeping love, raising responsible children, and staying alive in the city. --Regina Marler

Alright.......2007-06-26
This book was pretty good,an easy read.there's a part at the ending that kinda dissapointed me dealing with another child in the eqaution,i also wish there was more talk about happened in their marrige and so forth.
Great Reading!.......2007-05-09
All I have to say, is another great book!! Great reading, takes you away from the reality of the world you live in. Great Author!!
WONDERFUL BOOK.......2007-05-06
I LOVED THIS BOOK IT'S A FINE EXAMPLE OF HOW MEN SHOULD FIGHT FOR A RELATIONSHIP WITH A LOVED ONE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THEIR CHILD.
DICKEY DOES A GREAT JOB ONCE AGAIN LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK.
There are plenty of Lies in love ...........2007-03-01
I guess you can say that there is a difference between lying and just keeping quiet about things. Vince has some unresolved issues concerning his ex-wife and her husband and his daughter. Dana has some unresolved issues that she has been running away from traveling from New York to Los Angeles. As the tale unwinds you have some very interesting characters outside of Vince and Dana. You have all types of relationship issues. Without naming them and leaving that for you to read this book yourself, I will give you situations: You have the lesbians where one of them used to be married and is somewhat of a gypsy, they have you tripping through the whole story. You have the married couple who has been together for a long time, but they have become systematic and one is stepping out and the game plan begins, then you have the wanna be producer/rising star and the live in girlfriend/dancer/mother vs. the girl band and is he a stud or a real dud?? You have the Dad/Granddad who is the wise patriarch of the family. You have the rising rapper driving around in the limo, spending boo coos of money, but tell me since he has it going on so strong, how come he still hasn't paid the money back to the girl he claims he is in love with and what is the twist on that scene. The story was greatly planned out and had all the angles for a great read, but it still fell short for me, just did not have the kick that I was looking for in Eric Jerome Dickey. Eric is a awesome writer, but this was not his best work. I still suggest you read it though.
Liar's Game.......2007-01-12
All I can say is go Jerome Dickey GO!! He does it again, a another good book.....

For a mixed audience.......2007-02-21
I think this book aims at a mixed audience with mixed success. For the puzzle solver, there is interesting background on some popular forms, but probably not enough puzzles. For someone with a background in math the exploration is too simple, (e.g. one paragraph of Godel) and for the computer scientist not enough exploration of algorithms. For the historian of science there are some new perspectives, but the history is not carried through. On the discussion of Labyrinths, I wish Danesi would have mentioned the book Labyrinths by Borge, and also alluded to the form in some churches.
Although the book may not be for the "specialist", there is quite a bit of fun for anyone here. For example I had been familiar with the Fibonacci series, but hadn't seen the Rabbit Puzzle before. Everyone has heard of the Mobius strip, but the Klein bottle was new to me (and I'd love to buy one). I had done mazes before, but the one by Lewis Carroll us fun.
Good start, but never becomes really challenging.......2006-01-08
Liar's Paradox has ten chapters covering 10 puzzles that mankind has created over its history. Each chapter covers a main puzzle, the historical and philosophical background behind it, and describes how each affected mathematics/science as people thought their way through the puzzles. Each chapter includes a set of follow up questions/puzzles, with a good answer section at the back.
One should note that while most of the chapters focus on math, others seem only indirectly related--for instance, one chapter is almost solely devoted to problems related to perception and psychology (such as two-tone pictures in which you can see both a vase and two people's faces), and other chapters are related to math only in extremely advanced ways--for instance, the Liar's Paradox may be a math problem for some, but at the level this book is written it doesn't really get past a discussion of logical paradoxes.
On that note, this book is written at the level of someone who vaguely remembers high school algebra (for instance, there is a fairly in depth discussion of what "exponents" are). For someone at that level, I think the book is excellent. The puzzles Mr. Danesi chooses are interesting and all described well. The puzzles at the end of each chapter are entertaining.
I think readers should recognize before they buy this book that it is probably not meant to be a brain-wracking, headache-inducing puzzle book, but rather a leasurely review of some of mankind's more interesting puzzles. Mr. Danesi has done a good job of accomplishing that.

Storyline:
In olden days of yore, the realm of Alefgard was cloaked in darkness. According to legend, a brave warrior, Edrick, brought light back to the land by defeating an evil being. He used the Ball of Light bequeathed to him by a friend to drive off the enemies of Alefgard. He then gave the Ball of Light to King Lorik, who unified Alefgard. The land was at peace for many generations. In the time of King Lorik XVI, the Ball of Light were stolen from Tantegel Castle by the evil Dragonlord, and once again the Kingdom of Alefgard was plunged into darkness. Many travelers fell prey to the merciless fangs of monsters, and the beautiful land was transformed into poisonous swamps that hindered travelers. It was also rumored that several Towns and Villages were destroyed; wiped off the face of the land by Ghosts & Dragons.
Many brave warriors tried to recover the Ball of Light, but none of them returned from Charlock, the Dragonlord's dark castle. The people longed for peace, but did not give up hope. The great Seer Mahetta predicted that "One day, a descendant of the valiant Edrick shall come forth to defeat the Dragonlord."
Who is this brave soul? There is only one possible answer.
You.
Your quest is to find and defeat the Dragonlord. The time has come. This is the start of your adventure.

What You Need to Know. .......2007-09-29
This is a concise encyclopedia of the rules for poker. The Official Rules will particularly appeal to novices as it explains the nature of the cardroom, the equipment integral to the game, and hand rankings. Much of it is based on Robert's (Bob Ciaffone's) Rules of Poker and is elaborated upon by the author. It provides an introduction to the game as well by experienced player, Kelli Mix. The various styles of games are also discussed: limit, spread limit, no limit, and pot limit. The text covers just about everything including seven card stud high low and deuce-to-seven high low. The explanation of tournament rules is valuable because, as those of us who watch HSP already know, tournaments and cash games are entirely different animals. It even tells you what should be done with the "odd chip" in casino games. I appreciated the definition of "kill pots" and wish I would have read it before I began playing in kill limit games online, lol. This is definitely something I could have really used back in 2004 when I first began learning about the game.
Publisher's insight.......2007-09-21
Game Day highly recommends this book as the standard poker book for use during all types of poker games. This book is especially helpful to players in home games of poker, where it is important to have a way to resolve rules disputes quickly and amicably.
We at Game Day saw that there was something missing in the current field of poker books: a standard poker rule book. Before we published the Official Rules of Poker, the only authorities on the rules of poker was Scarne and Hoyle, which were written in the Nineteenth Century. The game has changed, especially in the last ten years, and we realized that it was important to have a Twenty-First Century rule book.
When we put out the word that we were looking for an editor and for such a book, Kelli Mix came forward. Ms. Mix, or "Poker Mom" as she is known at the poker table, eagerly took up the challenge of gathering and writing the rules to suit the modern game of poker. This turned out to be a gargantuan task. Ms. Mix researched each rule, making sure that they were found in at least five independent sources. Mix turned out to be a wonderful choice as editor and author of the Game Day Poker Almanac Official Rules of Poker.
Mix is a professional poker player. She is still under most poker players radar, but she is quietly climbing the ranks of tournament poker players (she finished 11th in the 2007 World Series of Poker Texas Hold 'Em Women's tournament in a field of more than 1,200 players). However, she is more likely to be found at cash games, playing high stakes.
The Official Rules of Poker includes all the rules of poker, from the most basic hand rankings to the most obscure tournament rules.
Contents:
1: Elements of Poker. This chapter covers the most basic rules of poker, and also describes the way poker is played in casino card rooms. Mix wrote these rules in a way that makes them easy to use while playing a game.
2: Professional Poker Rules. These rules cover more of mechanical means of acting in a poker game, giving the finer definitions of what constitutes a raise, a call or a fold. They also discuss the penalties of rules infractions. There are four parts to this chapter.
a) Robert's Rules of Poker. These rules were written by professional poker player and authority, Bob Ciaffone, as a standard set of rules of cash games in casino card rooms. While local laws may require changes to these rules, and some casinos use their own rules, these rules are often cited as the official set of rules in professional play.
b) Robert's Rules of Poker for Private Games: This is Ciaffone's "Robert's Rules of Poker" which he adopted to home games where no impartial dealer or floorperson is present.
c) Poker Tournament Director's Association Rules (TDA Rules). Each year, the Professional Poker Tournament Directors Association updates its rules, which most casinos and poker leagues use as their official rule book in tournament play. Tournament rules add a new layer of rules to poker, as tournaments are about eliminating players, not about accumulating money.
d) World Series of Poker Rules: The World Series of Poker is considered the premier poker tournament event. Due to its sheer size and commercialism, the rules for WSOP tournaments are different than TDA rules. Many poker leagues use WSOP rules instead of TDA rules, as the WSOP rules are more popular among those who learned poker from television.
3: Poker Etiquette. There are types of behavior frowned upon in poker games, due to the fact that poker is a highly competitive game and may involve large sums of money. In some games of poker, violating etiquette may result in ejection from the game.
4: Variant Poker Games. Includes 69 different versions of poker, including 5-Card Draw, 5-Card Stud, Cincinnati, Chicago, Baseball, Anaconda, Mexican Stud, Chinese Poker, Iron Cross, Guts, English Stud, Kansas City Lowball, California Lowball, Pineapple,Spit, Three-Card Draw, and the ever-hilarious Indian Poker. Also includes rules for declaring wild cards and using jokers. WhIle professional poker players and casino card rooms will never play most of these games, home games are notorious for playing "dealer's choice" where the dealer chooses which of the many variations of poker will be played that hand. (Note: Mix and I had a really good time finding out about all of these games.)
5: Glossary. Again, Mix was very thorough in her research. Poker terminology is highly colorful and is a lingo all its own. from the Nuts to the Fish. Mix used multiple sources, as there are many local poker terms and terms used that do not last more than a few months. She excludes popular names for two-card Texas Hold 'Em hands, purposefully, although we plan to have a separate glossary for hand names in future editions. Still, this is one of the most complete glossaries I have seen in a poker book anywhere.
6. Index: Okay, I did the index. I believe that indexes should be thorough, and so I did my best to make the index easy to use in the heat of play. Still, this was a fairly easy index to create, as Mix's presentation of the rules and her organization of the material was straightforward, allowing me to easily pick out the rules.
The Official Rules of Poker has been wonderfully received. Professional poker dealers have been clamoring to get this edition. When we released the book at the WSOP 2007 in Las Vegas, the WSOP dealers practically knocked me over trying to get their own copy.
Thank you for considering The Game Day Poker Almanac Official Rules of Poker. I personally hope you will find it to be of great use, and that the book will provide you with years of fun--and fair--poker.

Book Description
The purpose of this book is to develop a framework for analyzing strategic rationality, a notion central to contemporary game theory, which is the formal study of the interaction of rational agents, and which has proved extremely fruitful in economics, political theory, and business management. The author argues that a logical paradox (known since antiquity as "the Liar paradox") lies at the root of a number of persistent puzzles in game theory, in particular those concerning rational agents who seek to establish some kind of reputation. Building on the work of Parsons, Burge, Gaifman, and Barwise and Etchemendy, Robert Koons constructs a context-sensitive solution to the whole family of Liar-like paradoxes, including, for the first time, a detailed account of how the interpretation of paradoxial statements is fixed by context. This analysis provides a new understanding of how the rational agent model can account for the emergence of rules, practices, and institutions.

An off-duty police officer is shot and ex-nun Chris Bennett and her police-detective boyfriend find this motiveless murder puzzling. Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2006-08-02
When I read the Good Friday Murder by Lee Harris, I was delighted by the possibility the other books in here series might combine a good murder mystery with the personal story of a faithful Catholic. I am sorely disappointed. The author seems not to understand Catholic teaching and could easily mislead readers into believing that her character, Christine Bennett, is a faithful Catholic. No former nun would intentionally commit mortal sin and believe she is still a good Catholic. Beyond this glaring oversight, the prose is dismal.
A GREAT CHALLENGING MYSTERY.......2000-08-14
Christine Bennett spent half of her life in a convent, but left before making vows, as she realized it was not for her....she then moved to Oakwood in New York state, where her deceased aunt left her home to her... This is the 4th book in the series.....I suggest if possible, you read them in order, starting with the first one, The Good Friday Murder.....you won't be accurately choosing the villain/murderers as the author keeps us guessing right up to the end!! Christine is an intelligent, considerate, warm person who has slowly built up an intimate relationship over the course of the books, with police-detective Jack Brooks....she still has kept her friendship up with nuns from the convent and visits them frequently....There is not a thing NOT to like about Christine, Jack, nor this series.... After reading the first book, I immediately went to the bookstore and bought the entire series......I hope you, too, do the same..........you won't be disappointed, this is no "ordinary" series!
Book Description
Not many people in Tinker's Cove, Maine, knew Old Dan Malone. The grizzled barkeep's social circle was limited to the rough-hewn lobstermen and other assorted toughs that frequented his bar, a derelict main street dive called, appropriately, the Bilge. But when his body is found bobbing in the town's icy harbor, Lucy Stone, ace reporter for the Pennysaver newspaper, makes getting to know more about Old Dan a priority. And apparently, there's lots to learn.
Like the fact that local musician Dave Reilly insists Old Dan conned a winning lottery ticket worth five grand from him. And that handyman Brian Donohue claims that Old Dan stiffed him for repair work he'd done at the bar. There are even whispers about some connection to the Irish Republican Army. The confusion surrounding the death is only compounded by the arrival of actor Dylan Malone, Old Dan's brother and a prominent, if fading, attraction of the Dublin stage. Dylan has come to direct the production of "Finian's Rainbow," the featured event at Our Lady of Hope's annual St. Patrick's Day extravaganza. He's also come to help his brother renovate the Bilge, turning the dingy tavern into an authentic--if decidedly upscale--Irish pub.
Was Old Dan killed by someone he'd cheated, someone he'd loved, or someone who just couldn't stand the idea of losing their favorite watering hole? While Lucy can't be sure, one thing is abundantly clear--the stage is set for a murder mystery with a killer ending!

Customer Reviews:
Great first yoga book.......2006-12-28
Very clear directions, good pictures, good section on how to use yoga to stretch out even when you're at the office. As with all yoga books and videos, however, I recommend this in addition to some instruction, at least when you first start.
Delivers as promised after a learning curve.......2005-10-01
This book is great for the busy person who really wants to include a full yoga experience in their daily life. The author breaks the 20 minute workout into a 2 minute breath section, 3 minute warmup section, 8 minute yoga posture section, and an 8 minute relaxation/meditation section. It offers a basic workout, a challenging one, plus specialized workouts for during pregnancy, for athletes, for people with low back pain, and more.
I learned the basic workout in parts, since learning it takes much longer than the time to do it once you learn it. Take the time to read the instructions carefully and check your body's position while learning the postures because this is critical to a successful and satisfying practice. Remember to only stretch as far as you can comfortably go. Don't push... patience is rewarded with flexibility, impatience with possible injury.
If possible, schedule this workout for a time when you can extend it if you feel like it. I guarantee you will want to, because it makes you feel so good! Really helps with how your body feels (more flexible and stronger and energetic) and how your mind feels (calmer, more focused, more motivated). Since I did want to extend my practice sometimes, I added postures from another great book, Yoga for 50+.
It is so worth it to add yoga and breathwork and meditation to your life; the rewards are great and many. This book can help you.
yoga in denial.......2005-03-03
What do I say about someone who indulges in denail of yoga's greatness and tries to popularise it. The author has no understanding of yoga's roots, its philosophy and spirituality. Here are a list of things she might advocate:
Dont breathe because breathing in yoga is about prana and there is whole theory associated with prana and pagan Gods.
Dont say Om because it is representation of Brahma, Vishnu and Iswara-the trinity of Hindu Gods.
Dont practise yoga because the primary purpose of yoga is to achieve Iswara - the Hindu God.
But then again, the author's yoga has nothing to do with philosophy and spirituality and Hinduism. In fact, it is plain simple exercises which man has know for ever and the west has always been practising.
Then what the heck is the word yoga doing there? - it's anybody's guess.
Peace.
A book to buy for EVERYONE you know..........2000-05-15
I was skeptical, but this book is great. Easy to read and understand, and well thought out. I am recommending my friends and family get this book because everyone has 20 minutes to spare. I think this book will help to change my life for the better.
This is a great workout for a working Mom.......1999-09-30
I love to do yoga but can never find the time. I needed a routine that was comprehensive, but efficient. This is it. It's a routine divided into 2 minutes of breathing, 2 minutes of warm-up, 8 minutes yoga and 8 minutes of meditation. The pictures and text are instructive. I've incorporated the warm-up into all my practices. The actual yoga routine is thorough but gets to the point. The book includes alternative routines to help you avoid boredom. It includes tips for yoga at work, women's issues, etc. I really like this book.
