A good read.......2007-07-06
First off let me say that I have read two of tracey browns novels so far and I am hooked on her books. I loved how the story was narrated so that we could explore all of the characters thoughts and emotions. I loved how real lamin and lucky relationship was, but I was said that it did not end well. This book is a must read.

Interesting story but...........2006-11-21
I have read only a few of the Lisa Jackson books but this one looked very interesting and I actually read through the whole thing in a little more then a week without needing to put the book aside for a little bit because the characters or the plot was annoying me (ex: Whispers). So that's a good point for her right there.
The backflashes were the most interesting part of the book. They had a good pace it gave you basic fundemental information about the characters but I could tell right off the back who the ultimate killer would be. I thought she might take a twist and make the overtly bad character a red herring but no.
The one character who annoyed me the most was Zachary Danvers. He was that type of rebel without a cause. The rich white kid who lives in luxury but craves for some excitement and goes out to cause trouble becasue he's bored. If he were just a little more sadistic, he'd probably be that kid that drives around with his friends, shooting bee bees at the people they pass on the street. I couldn't help but laugh at him half the time. If he wasn't brooding over the fact that Adria looked like his stepmom (and I believe that is a major part of why he was so attracted to her. Projection is just fun like that), then he was ranting and raving at adria for looking like his stepmom. The man needed some therapy. The best part however is when they made love and are on that thin line of she could be his sister or she isn't his sister. Apparently since he crossed that line once before (even though it was just incest in the eyes of the law) then doing it with a blood relative wasn't bad enough to stop him.
I had alot of questions while reading this book: Why didn't they have DNA tests done? I know that back in 94 they did have the technology so that they could test siblings and show that they are related to each other considering it all that probably would have just made the book a few chapters long and not a very interesting read. (Though nearly 3/4 of the book was spent with the siblings arguing over whether she was their sister or not and not much being accomplished from said arguments)
Also why wasn't Ginny Watson, London's Nanny, every considered a suspect? Just becasue her bank account was left untouched? I just don't understand the logic in that. She was the last person with London, there were no signs of struggle like she was attacked with the girl. Why would a kidnapper take the girl and her? She would have just been unwanted baggage.
So many questions that really only Lisa Jackson could answer. All in all, it was an okay book. I don't regret spending my money on it and it's good for just letting your mind drift off and relax.
Kidnapped sister returns.......2006-05-31
Adria Hart has arrived in Portland at the Danvers Hotel in search of the family that she might have been kidnapped from two decades earlier. The Danvers heirs, all grown children of deceased patriarch Witt Danvers are used to long lost sisters surfacing. Witt has an unusual will - half his estate goes to London Danvers - the rest divided among his other heirs, and they will do anything to keep Adria from collecting. While the family is convinced she's a fake, ne'er do well middle son Zach is intrigued by her. She is the spiting image of his stepmother, the woman who took his virginity. On the one hand he thinks she might be his half sister, and on the other hand, he is extremely attracted to her.
Someone does not want Adria to rediscover her family and inheritance - they have gone to great lengths to scare her off, resulting in Zach bringing her out to live with him at his ranch. Several stolen kisses lead to passion in each other's arms, but they realize that until they know whether they are blood-related, they cannot continue the relationship. It is a bit "icky" for lack of a better term, and the outcome is a little too pat and convenient as if to justify the two losing their self control.
Jackson has done what few authors do - she has taken her fist novel ("Treasures") and beefed it up (from 400 to 510 pages). It is clearly packaged as a re-issue with a new name on the back cover, so if this comes as a surprise, you did not read the plot summary. But just because she added 500 pages does not mean it is necessarily better - this is one huge book and a pretty slow read at times, shifting from 1973, 1980, and 1993 to tell the drawn out story.
An okay mystery but not a great romance.......2005-05-05
This is the first book of Lisa Jackson's that I have read. I thought the mystery surrounding the main character was good, but the romance that was thrown in was a little off. I figured it out about halfway through the book. I might read another book by Lisa Jackson, but not right away.

Customer Reviews:
Fun and scary.......2007-05-03
This is a great book. The stories are scary and have twists that double the enjoyment.
My 7 year old grandson and I have our special time together reading after he comes home from school. He loves these kind of stories and will sit still while I read. I do sound effects and character voices which makes the stories fun for me too.
I purchased Beware and Nightmare Hour: Time for Terror both by R.L. Stine, that are equally good.
The Haunting Hour.......2006-11-22
_The Haunting Hour_ by R.L.Stine was very suspenseull and full with horror. When Amber's dad brings home an antique trunk that she doesn't want to take on her cruise, that night she hears a voice saying "take me with you." At first she just thinks it was a nightmare, but later a ghost comes out of the trunk and into her body since Amber declares that she won't take the trunk on her cruise. Amber was so mad at her dad for not listening to her. Then when she gets on the cruise ship, the cruise ship is there...is her cruise gonig to be a disaster?
Stories that will make you scared.......2005-04-30
This is a collection of R.L. Stine's spookiest stories. And some of them are really scary. My favorite story that scared me the most was "Losers" because i want to remind the bullies at my school, IF THEY CALL ME A LOSER, THEY'RE GONNA BE HUMILIATED ONE DAY. Because it's a about kids who disrepect other kids, and what happens to them? They become the laughing stock of the carnival.
STORIES:
Halloween Dance: Creepy, talking about what happens when you die 8/10
The Bad Babysitter: Wierd, but enjoyable. About a babysitter who hurts kids with a making a minature cookie that looks like their face
And there's alot more. But I'm not gonna give it away. Good book, read it.

A family's haunting.......2007-08-06
This book started out a little slow but did pick up about the middle.
We find out in the end that the house was not haunted but it was the land.
The book was not a bad read just not one of the best on haunted houses.
Great Ghost Story.......2006-05-27
This is one chilling story that kept me awake! Well written, and a must read for anyone with interest in the paranormal.
Not enough on the ghosts.......2006-04-01
This book did not explain much about the ghosts the author was dealing with, the book was filled with just unnessisary dialong and the authors fear of the paranormal she was dealing with.
Could be better.......2006-03-05
I didn't like this book as well as some others mainly because the woman narrating didn't live in the house thru most of the book she just visited at times and it wasn't like a on going haunting. Also I feel she got away from the main topic of the haunting alot with useless chatter. It was o.k. but not the greatest.
Terrible.......2006-02-06
I have been studying paranormal phenomenon for 30 years. From the hundreds of books that I have read on the topic, I feel pretty qualified to be able to weed out the junk. And this was indeed junk. Poorly written, boring, not scary at all, I had trouble getting through it. The dialogue was totally stiff and unrealistic. I was distracted by her huge gaps in time, the fact that there was a disclaimer in the beginning telling the readers that her friend helped her write this book and used some of her own "experiences" in the first person - "as if" they had really happened to the author instead of her friend. What is the purpose of THAT?! Her children played such a minute part of the book that we didn't learn her son's name until the end after he was moved out. (She mentions a "Jamie" towards the end and I had to try to figure out who it was.) Did her kids have ANY strange experiences in all the years they lived there? They were barely mentioned! Most of the things that happened to the women seemed either subjective or wildly embellished. Too many examples of "conversations" with friends and neighbors who asked her about the same things, word for word as how the authors described an incident previously, as if they need to "prove" that someone else saw or felt these things too. All of the photos of the orbs in their yard - notice that the majority of the pictures contain orbs on the RIGHT side of the frame. She needs to clean her camera lens. There is a huge difference in the way orbs present themselves in photos as opposed to pieces of dust. These "orbs" are dust.
I only give it one star because that ws the lowest rating I could give. It doesn't really deserve any.

Pleasant way to pass your time.......2003-12-31
Haunting the Dead is a collection of four novellas - all telling tales of the Orpheus Group, an organization (set in White Wolf's World of Darkness, presumably) that deals with ghosts, and employs agents who can either project themselves to the other side or are ghost themselves. "The Grass is Always Greener" by Stefan Petrucha deals with a haunted dormitory and a group of students assembled to take drugs and listen to a mysterious TV broadcast. Or...are they? This one only indirectly deals with Orpheus and from an outsider's viewpoint. "Eurydice" deals with Orpheus full bore, the only one of the four stories to do so, and exposes its corporate bureaucratic underbelly. One agent, Anders, with suicidal tendencies, loses his living girlfriend and has to wonder if life is worth living...when he knows his dead girlfriend's spirit is waiting for him to join him. "Dia de Los Muertos" has an agent and her ghost-partner investigating a haunted construction site and finds an Aztec cult tied into the overall menace threatening Orpheus. (Several Kolchak: Night Stalker in-jokes can be found in this one.) And "Corridors" mixes different times and places within a hotel as a new Orpheus agent/experiment wakes up to find the "big threat" and its minions overrunning the place. All four stories are tied together by the common thread of some big supernatural menace on the other side taking out Orpheus and its agents. As noted above, all four of the stories are a bit open-ended and there's no real resolution at the end. Still, all four of the stories are entertaining and I'd recommend them to those interested in stories of the supernatural guaranteed to keep you flipping the pages.
Back off man, I'm an agent..........2003-12-11
Interesting, I have to say, though the stories seem to end with little overall resolution. Obviously, the fiction here needs to set up a situation and break it down, leave some loose ends (it is marketing for a role playing product, after all), and some story threads are quite interesting... However, each of the stories only achieves a minor resolution -- though in terms of individual characters, some resolutions resolve character arcs. There is so much left open and unanswered, however, possibly too much.
To back up, apparently, there is a Ghostbusters style organization (they even have computer servers named Spengler, Stanz, Zeddemore, etc) dedicated to investigation and resolution of ghostly phenomenon, for a profit. Its agents can -- either through psychic power or scientific motivation -- detach their souls from their bodies. These four novellas explore several aspects of this organization -- both as a threat and a victim.
The first novella (Greener on the Other Side) is the story of several youths who get together to drop a new drug and watch a strange, pirate broadcast... A situation that gets pretty ugly after a couple of twists.
The second novella (Euridice) involves a widowed agent who discovers that his wife (a psychic Orpheus agent) may have been killed by the very organization they are working for...
The third novella (Dia de Los Muertos) finds a rookie and experienced agent answering the highest level of distress call in the newly opened Orpheus branch in Guadalahara.
The fourth novella (Corridors) finds a man, who volunteered for a spiritual experiment with the Orpheus group, trapped inside a strange hotel, with its equally strange inhabitants -- both dead and alive.
Interesting premises, interesting stories, but they would have been stronger with a more definitive resolutions...
A good read for Orpheus fans.......2003-12-09
I enjoyed all four of the stories in this book. Some of the things in it did seem to go against certain things in the core rulebook, however. Still, the stories are great, and I strongly recommend it.

I found this book is a very helpful resource. It is clear and easy to understand and certainly answered a lot of my questions. I would highly recommend it.

Don't waste your money! All this book does is tell you how sick you are and how sick you will become. Nowhere does it give even a hint how to help yourself get well which is why I bought it. So forget it!
