Sizzles.......2006-08-01
Passion Bay sizzles with love, romance, sex.
It also has mystery and intrigue.
Once you start reading, you won't be able to put it down.
Good, But . . ........2006-04-08
The plot for this book is as described elsewhere. The author certainly has a real feel for her location. Her descriptions are vivid - so much so that you can feel the sticky heat and see the ocean curling in on the beach.
However, the author does not yet have as good a talent for character development. I never got a feel for the characters that I do in, say, a Gerri Hill novel. The characters come from vastly different backgrounds, but you never got the feeling that there would be conflict - certainly a computer geek and a commodities trader would have trouble communicating outside the bedroom upon occasion. Although the author told us there was a soul-level attraction between Cody and Annabel, the reader just never felt it.
It also seemed like the author rushed the ending - here we are in the middle of a life-threatening hurricane and on the next page there's sunshine, and every one is safely home. The tension of the storm could have been a real page turner of an ending for the author.
This author has real potential to be a first-class writer of lesbian fiction. And I will read book 2 in the Moon Island series, but won't read beyond that if the character development in the second book is as shallow as this.
Review of "Passion Bay" by Cheri Rosenberg.......2006-02-25
"Passion Bay," a finely crafted romance by respected author Jennifer Fulton, takes place in a paradise modeled after the "unspoiled beauty of the South Pacific." Book One in the Moon Island Series, is a lovely romance about two women brought together by fate. Heiress Annabel Worth leaves her job as a securities trader in Boston after she inherits an island from her favorite aunt, Annie. Uncovering the secrets of her past is just one journey Annabel takes on when she relocates to the island; following her heart is another.
New Zealander, Cody Stanton has lost her job, her girlfriend, and possibly even her mind. Desperate to get away, Cody rents a house on Moon Island where she and Annabel fall for each other. Both Annabel and Cody harbor secrets that just might destroy any chance they have of maintaining a lasting relationship...but the attraction is far more than purely physical.
Before meeting and falling for Cody, Annabel had a tumultuous relationship and painful breakup with her girlfriend, Clare. "They had talked around their differences for three years until what was unsaid became louder than words" [p. 43]. This is one of many instances where Fulton says it all in one sentence. The author succinctly defines the relationship with clarity and depth. Annabel vowed never to let love in again, however, "There was an unconscious sensuality about Cody that Annabel found profoundly alluring. She seemed very straightforward and natural, devoid of the weary cynicism Annabel encountered in most women she met" [p. 42-3]. There's heat between the sheets, but will Annabel be able to maintain just a simple lustful encounter with Cody, or will love win out?
Annabel always had a tenuous relationship with her mother, who never embraced and fully accepted her sexuality, preferring to believe that Annabel had come to her senses when she broke up with Clare. Her family and friends reacted much differently, and were more supportive when she left her husband, then when she and Clare parted ways. "Annabel had experienced deeply the distress of her invalidation by society at large. She had felt like two people, one the hard-working, successful banker everyone accepted, the other a secretive misfit" [p. 50]. These two sentences speak volumes about what Annabel is thinking and feeling. Fulton successfully writes two stories in one. Secrets of Annabel's past are revealed as she discovers the truth through letters from her late aunt. Sharing the journey with Annabel is as compelling as the love story between the two complex women. Subplots keep the story moving along at lightening speed.
From the very first page, Fulton's distinctive humor is evident. "The trolleybus was late, of course. It would have caused needless shock and distress were it to arrive on time" [p. 1] is one example. Especially funny, Fulton describes Cody's best friend, Janet, appropriately, "Janet was the kind of friend everyone hoped for. She was loyal, fun, and always there. Lovers could come and go, but Janet still made the best guacamole in town" [p. 15]. How profoundly true about what's important in friendship! There are books that you read with a smile on your face and there are books that have you laughing out loud. "Passion Bay" had me doing both. Fulton's style and humor works well with the inner turmoil of the characters, the seriousness of what is going on with their budding relationship, and all the pitfalls of not being totally honest with each other from the very beginning. I am completely in awe of the skill of this author. One of my favorite quotes is the best pickup line I've heard in a while, "This is a once-only opportunity. We can lie here all night wondering what it would be like and worrying about whether we'll see tomorrow, or we can have some truly excellent sex. Your choice, honey" [p. 145].
Cody has a tough time dealing with her conscience. When she falls in love with Annabel, she knows in her heart that she must make things right in her own life before she can love another woman completely. Cody suffered a devastating breakup with her cheating girlfriend, which left her leery of ever falling in love again. Can she trust Annabel? Can she fix her past mistakes? Both women have many hurdles to get over, including some way beyond their control, like Hurricane Mary, before they can commit to one another. The journey is as compelling as it is memorable. You will think about Annabel and Cody long after you finish reading the book. Fulton has a wonderful way with words, tapping into the emotions that drive her characters actions and reactions. Fulton is known for her insight, competent characterization, and compelling storytelling.
"Passion Bay" has everything a reader could want and more. Delightful characters, inviting tropical scenery, intrigue and suspense, sizzling sex scenes, sharp realistic dialogue, a clever plot, and a few surprises thrown in for good measure. It is sexy, witty, engrossing, extremely well-written and meticulously edited. I give "Passion Bay" five stars and my highest praise. With seven reprints of the first edition, and now a second, revised and expanded "author's cut" edition, "Passion Bay" remains a favorite to be enjoyed over and over again. Don't miss it or anything penned by the highly acclaimed author, Jennifer Fulton.
I love the beach..........2004-12-08
The classic recipe for success is two women from different backgrounds finding each other under difficult circumstances. That's what you'll find in this book. On top of that, you'll find steamy scenes, insecurity, fear of trust, and a sense of familiarity. This book was much more enjoyable than "Greener Than Grass" and I read it in one night.
Unique and sensual.......2004-10-04
This is a really original story that is also funny and hot. The characters are incredibly real and their romance is touching and passionate. It's hard to find a lesbian romance that is truly romantic and sensual, but which also has SIZZLE. Passion Bay gets it right first time.
Being an avid reader of romances, I have found many seem to be written according to a formula and some authors write the same book over and over. So it was a breath of fresh air to read a novel as unique as this one. The writing is intelligent and well crafted and the story doesn't take itself too seriously. This is one romance you won't regret buying!

John Sandford is a literary genius!!.......2006-07-24
Johns books are addictive,if you buy one, you will ultimatly want to buy them all.Exspecially if you start with this book
rules of prey,it reads fast....and your heartbeat does its
best to keep up.
3 Prey's back to back. What more could you want?.......2001-02-21
If you want a book that will you can't put down, well then this is the one for you. I have all the Prey novels and to date I can trully say that they have been the best reads ever. Davenport is one hell of a cop, and delivers justice in the best two fisted way I've come to read. The Criminals are dark and sinister, and I know these three stories will keep the reader rivited till the end and still wanting more. I know I did, and can't wait for the next one.
John Sanford is the best !.......1999-12-12
I have read all of the Prey series and am a really big fan. I wasn't always a person who does alot of recreational reading . But once i started the Prey series I can't stop I have read them all and am ready for his next release. I still think my favorite was Rules of Prey.
The most evil villains I have ever read........1998-08-22
I have read five of the "Prey" novels so far, including these three stories. Obviously, there is something about them that I find attractive, but in retrospect, I cannot honestly say what. The writing style is pleasant, but not taxing, and draws you along. The villains are the most evil people that I have ever read about, and always come to the same end. The number of psychos inhabiting John Sandford's Midwest is truly frightening, yet doesn't seem to surprise the locals. These books are the "sitcom-lites" of literature, but easy and quick to read.
Three great mystery books in one........1997-04-07
Sandford is a master at weaving this type of story. He keeps you reading through all three novels like it was one story. It was nice to see a author finally pick the great state of Minnesota for a setting

The Skye no longer hear the song within the silent megaliths for they've forgotten how to sing. Now, as the pulse of the land slows, and the seasons fail, it's to the stones that Bree, a true Shroud Born, must turn, and their whispers she must hear. Zen for everybody.......2007-10-02
I must be an idiot, because this book really spoke to me. I understood it better than all the other books about Zen that I have read, and it helped me understand those other books, too. It answered just about all of my questions about Zen. I don't know if its definitions of Nirvana, Satori, and Kensho are orthodox or not, but they make me happy, and they confirm some of my own previous ideas. Buddha is right here, right now, and we are only waves in an infinite, eternal Ocean. Meanwhile, back to everyday reality. This book shows how Zen can help even a layperson find enlightenment in everyday life, in work, in play, in relationships, in hardship. It is a finger pointing straight at the moon.
Don't hesitate to buy.......2007-08-19
I love the Idot and Dummies series of books for making complicated subjects easier to understand, and this is no exception. If you hesitate to buy this book because you think it doesn't have meat, you are mistaken. Not only does this ease you into the subject of Zen, it gives you the tools to start using Zen in your life right now. The book contains additional information on recommended books, internet links, etc. If you are new to Zen like me, this is a great place to start. You will not be dissapointed.
Simple & great for the average person.......2007-05-11
I bought this book based on the reviews here and I am so glad I did! This is one of the top 5 spiritual books I've ever read.
I'd describe it as a nuts-and-bolts, non-religious, no-nonsense reference book for the average person to live a more peaceful life. Most books on the topic seem to assume one has the luxury of time, money, etc. to retreat to a mountain hut dressed in robes. This book offers information on how a REAL person--with a job, family stress, and all that accompanies the typical American life--can achieve more inner peace.
In particular, I have to mention that it gave the ONLY truly useful discussion and advice on meditation I've ever found (and I've searched for answers on this for years); this has allowed me to actually understand meditation and start integrating it into my life. I never thought I'd be able to.
GREAT BOOK.
Zen Pancakes.......2006-09-26
This book is not exactly brimming with the intellectual profundity of Suzuki, let's say, but it's a great little book nonetheless. Not really about Zen, this book is entirely about Zen. You don't have to practice Zen to follow along with it, but if you follow along with it you will be practicing Zen, essentially (Zazen is recommended).
This is really a book about simplifying your life, creating order in your environment, adopting an elegant and understated aesthetic, and taking control of the daily chaos that is American culture without becoming General Manager of the universe. In short, it has nothing and everything to do with Mass-Transit Satori. Make sense? No? Good, then you must be getting it.
Opened the Door.......2006-08-20
I consider myself very fortunate to have discovered this book at the time I did. After reading just a few sentences, I began to feel some relief from what was, at that time, a very tormented mind. Zen seemed to be exciting and new yet comforting and familiar at the same time.
I must admit I have not always been the best follower of the ideas in this book, but I notice that when I do try sincerely to put them into practice, there is a definite benefit. This book introduces Zen in a format that is light and accessible, and you may be surprised to find yourself quickly looking at your life in a different way.
This book also has great excerpts from other authors on the subject, as well as an extensive reading list that I've found beneficial and practical as well. Thank you to the authors!

Book and Reference Guide.......2005-02-18
I checked this book out at the library and enjoyed it so much that I had to buy it for reference. It's packed with good information on all aspects of meditation, including myths, history, a wide variety of practicies and excercises for the beginner as well as the more experienced meditator. I recommend it especially for the beginner.
Too much extraneous clutter for this beginner.......2004-05-24
There's something paradoxical about the idea of an "Idiot's Guide to Meditation." Describing the outward forms of meditation is easy but describing the subjective experience is harder, as is actually doing the meditating. There's real discipline involved in developing mental focus through meditation. Somehow, with all the jumping around from one topic to another in this book, that seemed to get lost in the mix.
Myabe that's where my problems with this book come from. There is so much information given about so many different methods that the basics get buried. The authors throw in various traditions, terminologies, positions, theories, and a few women's magazine quizzes were thrown in, not to mention frequent "Bliss Bytes" and "From A to Om." The book seemed scattered and a little too New Agey for my tastes. Personally, I found Lawrence LeShan's classic "How to Meditate" to be better grounded, more instructive, and a more helpful guide for this idiot.
Little disappointed after reading.......2003-06-04
There are many books on meditation, and I bought this one and Meditation by Sri Chinmoy. Main reason was that all the reviews were excellent. But Chinmoy's book is superior in every aspect. This book is more a dictionary or overview on meditation and technique than useful practitioners manual. Plus it contains misunderstanding of some basic classification of Yoga styles and separating one and the same thing in different groups. To give you easily understandable example if Biologist gave you a list of life forms that goes like: Animals, Plants, Carrots, Bacteria, ... you would question his knowledge.
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Meditation.......2001-11-06
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Meditation, by Joan Budilovsky and Eve Adamson, will answer every question you have about meditation, as well as help you find the kind of meditation that is right for you.
Budilovsky and Adamson have teamed up before with books on yoga and massage, as well as writing independently about holistic health.
They write that "meditation can teach you to live in the now, to know yourself--body, mind, and soul--better, and to find the life you need." They first explain how meditation reduces stress and helps in healing, then discuss how "meditation will lead you to a consideration of life's bigger questions. . ." before getting into the actual techniques for successful meditation.
They emphasize throughout the book that meditation does not conflict with any religious or spiritual beliefs.
Instructions start with how to prepare your mind and body for meditation, then explain the different seated, walking, and moving meditations. The authors discuss how to use mantras, mandalas, and visualization techniques to enhance meditation. They also review the basics of yoga, T'ai Chi, and QiGong as relaxation techniques.
Readers are taught how to adapt religious traditions to "create your own profound meditative exercises." They also learn how to perform "body scans" to determine what their bodies are telling them about their physical health.
Definitions of unfamiliar terms are included with the text, making it easy to understand the information presented. "Mindful Minutes," meditation trivia and anecdotes, are scattered throughout the book.
Budilovsky and Adamson say that with a "few simple techniques, you can harness the awesome power of your own mind-body." In The Complete Idiot's Guide to Meditation, they show you exactly what those techniques are and how to apply them in your own life.
Excellent Down to Earth Beginner's Guide to Meditation.......2001-09-24
This book is definately not for idiots! It contains nearly everything that beginners would be interested in concerning meditation. There are lessons on different cultures and how they meditate, spiritual meditation practices (to reach for enlightenment) how and where to pick the perfect meditation sanctuary, poses and hand positions, moving meditation, and so much more. This manual is written in a down to earth style that makes you feel as though the author is sitting right there with you. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the broad and ever-expanding world of meditation!

A quick trip to your center.......2007-06-09
THis is a marvelous guide for those times when you need a quick and direct route to your center. The meditations are short and effective. They are a gentle reminder that all really is pono, Hawaiian for perfect.
For those beginning meditation..........2007-05-24
I've been 'directed' towards utilizing meditation in my life and have been avoiding doing it because there seemed to be 'certain' ways of meditating. Susan's book takes away all the "shoulds" and meets a person where they are at. The meditations are joyous, profound, life-changing and freeing. I highly recommend this book to beginners and practiced meditators alike. The meditations reach a person at every level!
The best Meditation Book Ever.......2007-05-14
As a student of Susan Gregg, I was one of the first to purchase this wonderful book. She has a way of making Meditation so easy and refreshing.
The short Meditations are perfect for todays life style where few of us have the time to set aside hours for deep reflection. I have achieved better results using these shorter Meditations than I ever did trying the longer, more intense route.
The variety of subjects offered will appeal to every one and every mood. I will be giving many of these out as Gifts this year.
Thank you Susan, for another great Guide!
Simple guide to meditations - peace & happiness!.......2007-05-05
Excellent book! The meditations and suggestions are a great help in finding peace & happiness in your journey of life! Thank You!
I am bias but I think it is GREAT.......2007-04-23
Yes, I am the author of this book and I was so excited when I was asked to write it. I love leading people on guided meditations and this book is full of them! Over 60 guided meditations.
I have gotten wonderful feedback on this book - so far one person wrote to say she is using it in her group sessions for people in recovery. Another person said she was deeply touched by the meditations. And one woman wrote and said she loved it but she was puzzled about the Complete Idiot's part. She went on to say that after she used the book for a few days she realized only an idiot wouldn't. That one gave me a good chuckle. One man said it really touched his heart and changed his life.
I have dedicated my life to helping people lead rich, full and happy lives. This book is very simple yet full of wonderful bits of wisdom I have gathered over the years.
I hope you will take the time to read it. And if you have any questions feel free to drop me a line. If you visit my web site you can sign up for my semi-daily reflections - sort of an ongoing guided journey home to the magical you you've always been.
With love,
Susan

Another self improvement book.......2004-05-27
This book is boring! Mostly it is about improving yourself, which any atheist could do. It doesn't talk about life after death either! This book's a loser.
What an excellent book!.......2000-12-07
I've read a lot of books on sprituality, and I think this is one of the best I've read to date. It is an "Idiot's Guide" in that anyone can get something out of this book. However, even those who have read many books can learn a lot from it.
The book is a very diverse one--a few chapters on some of the larger religions, some sections on becoming more present in the moment, some stuff on physical actions--something for everybody. Robinson's approach is that we are all climbing the same spiritual mountain, even though we all take different paths. None of the paths are inherently better than any others, but some paths are better for some individuals. Only the individual can know what that path is.
His style is friendly and easy to understand. There is a lot of information in this book, so you'll want to read it a few times to get the most from it. Plus, there are helpful 'asides' to break up the page and give you useful information.
This book will enrich the life of anyone with an open mind. Not only does it talk about spirituality, it goes a step further by encouraging you to practice your spirituality in your everyday life. Robinson teaches many, many helpful techniques that make spirituality practical and worthwhile. I wish I had found this book sooner.
