Book Description

Marly's love for Cade has spanned her teenage years, and survived strong and intact into womanhood. Her fantasies and daydreams have sustained her, but she's no longer content with merely imagining the touch of his hands, the taste of his kiss. It's time to seduce the tough, sexy cowboy. She's heard the rumors for years, the tales of his sexual preferences. She's prepared herself to accept his desires. Prepared her body for his touch. But she wasn't prepared for the choice to come... Cade's dark desires, his sexual excesses are based in the past. In a time when pain, shame, and blood stains his very soul. He carries a secret shared only with his brothers. A secret that has scarred the bond, the ability to be a brother or to accept the love of the men he was raised with. He knows the only way to prove his loyalty, his love for those brothers and Marly will be the key. She has a choice. She can surrender to Cade's needs, his soul deep desires, or she can walk away. A choice only Marly can make. A choice that will change her life forever.

3 out of 5 stars give it a go...........2007-09-05

I'm a new Lora Leigh fan and this book was recommended so many times by readers on this site that i had to give it a go. I found the book to be very engrossing as it challenged everything i believed in in romance & love. I don't understand how by sharing the woman he loves with his 2 brothers can "heal" Cade and to give him credit he did fought this with everything in him until Marly pushed him too far. The reasoning the author gave regarding the brother's twisted adultlescent years did not go down too well with me as an understandable excuse for this sharing & healing. Also outside of my expectations is the fact that Cade is very much an alpha male yet where are all these "alpha" instincts like possessiveness and jealousy and aggression that comes when sharing his woman with other males (even though they're his brothers). But that's not to say that the book wasn't a good read & it made me think quite a bit. Usually i read for entertainment only & once i've finished a book it's out of my mind but this one kept me thinking even once finished.

The other thing i found hard to swallow was that Marly was a virgin yet she was ok with this sharing of her to all 3 males in the end. And the scene where Cade almost forced her to participate i thought was NOT the action of a man who loves his woman, it was more of an alpha male intent on dominating his sexual partner by making her do what he wants. I don't regret buying this book and would recommend others to read it just for a different point of view of romance & love and of course for the great sex scenes! I like the author's other new release book of similar theme - Forbidden Pleasure much much better in term of storyline & relationship between the female & 2 male leads. The one good thing i found in this book that lived up to expectation as an erotic novel was the sex scenes, it was very very hot and steamy. As this is my first novel by this author i'm very intrigued by her theme and is in process of obtaining the other 2 books of this August Men series on Brock & Sam. Hence it's not a 4 or 5 but it's no 1 or 2 either....give it a go

5 out of 5 stars Hot and good!.......2007-06-21

Not only does this excellent erotic book have great sex, it's also got a great story! I fell in love with the characters and really started to care what happended to them--esp. between te sheets!! This is my first book with this particular author, but it won't by my last, that's for sure!! I highly recommend this one, as well as recomending Erotica - My Dirty Thirties: Male/Female/Male.

Enjoy this one!! It won't disappoint!!!

4 out of 5 stars Very Hot book for cool nights.......2007-05-27

Marly have been love with Cade August since the day that her mom left at the August's ranch. But Cade along with his brothers Brock and Sam share a dark secret. A secret from there childhood that if found out by Marly could drive her away. But another dark for force is the ranch, a force that might leave to Marly's death.
"Marly's Choice" was the first book that I have read by Lora Leigh and it was Hot! Cade is a pure, sexy, male who love sex in any form. And Marly is woman willing to try anything to be with the man she loves. Can't wait to read the other books in this series.

5 out of 5 stars Hot and sexy .......2007-05-24

I could not put it down. A great read from beginning to the end.

4 out of 5 stars Its Erotica, not Romance!.......2006-11-25

Lora Leigh is a well known writer of women's erotica, which is just a nice way of saying female porn. So if you plan on reading this book for romance or a detailed storyline -- then don't. But if you are looking for plenty of well-written, hot sex -- than buy the series!

Unlike many other 'erotica' writers, Lora Leigh's writing is actually interesting and the sex scenes are some of the best I've ever read.

As you go through the other reviews and read how some people considered the storyline 'lacking' and the reason behind the threesomes stupid, keep in mind this is not a romance -- its erotica!!!! You should be reading it for the sex and not the validity of the storyline. Who cares why they need threesomes!! I'm just glad they do!!

      Book Description

Attorney Gail Connor is on top of the world. She's engaged to the man of her dreams, criminal lawyer Anthony Quintana; they've bought the house of their dreams in beautiful Coral Gables; and Gail finally has her dream job-- her own private law practice. But then her 11-year-old daughter Karen starts receiving odd, hangup phone calls and creepy notes and photos in the mail. Could it be Gail's jealous ex-husband Dave? A disgruntled former client? Someone from Anthony's shadowy past? While Anthony and Dave clash violently over how to protect Gail's daughter, the stalker closes in. Then Karen is abducted, and Gail's world is shattered. Nothing matters now-- not her success, her wedding, her new home, her new practice-- not without her daughter. As they track Karen's tormentor, they must walk that dangerous line between action and caution, and deliver justice without fail...and without mercy.

3 out of 5 stars No Mystery Here.......2007-04-25

This is a good read for an amature sleuth in need of an easy case to solve case. Its predictable story line was not helped by the consistent stupidity and shallowness of the central character and her type cast compadres.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Read Once You Get Into It!.......2006-02-06

This is the first of Barbara Parker's books I have read, not realizing that this was part of a sequel of books before, so I'll have to go back and read the others before moving on.

Anyhow, Gail Connor the main character of the story, is an attorney with a thriving law practice of her own. She is also divorced with one daughter, Karen a pre-teen, and new fiance Anthony Quintana. All is great in her life until a threatening phone call is received. And after that other scary events follow. Someone sprays the word DIE on her car, murders her daughter's kitty in a horrible way, and then threatens Karen.

There are several suspects involved here, including her fiance himself. Is it Charlie Jenkins, the handyman who comes to work on Gail's home, or might it be Wendell Sweet, her client's very crazy ex-husband who wants revenge at all costs? Her fiance Anthony also doesn't like Dave, Gail's ex-husband, and when he sees Gail close to Dave, he turns cold. The whole relationship does in fact.

Gradually, everything in Gail's world begins to crumble around her, and the real criminal is still out there waiting to strike again.

4 out of 5 stars Who might Be???.......2004-11-09

With the first phone call Gail O'Connor received, her fear began mysteriously. An anonymous voice on the other line threatened to kill her.
From the beginning this book keeps you awake. The mystery begins from the first page. I'm in the middle of the book and so far I have no idea who the killer might be! Gail O'Connor is an attorney in Miami. Gail is fighting for the custody of her daughter Karen, and Gail's lovely fiancee Anthony Quintana is going through family problems.
Two monthes before Gail and Anthony's wedding everything started to go wrong. I'm wondering who wants to kill Gail. So far this looks like a revenge

      5 out of 5 stars A great suspense novel.......2004-01-14

From the first page to the last, this was a real suspense book. Without giving too much of the story away, it's about a high-class lawyer who lives alone with her daughter. She then started to get these weird and threatening phone calls, which then turned into things that were far more serious. As the story goes on, twists and turns await the reader, and blood is spilled and fingers are pointed. There isn't much else to say about this book other than the fact that Barbara Parker is a genious when it comes to writing suspense novels. Be sure to check out her other novels!

4 out of 5 stars Connor And Quintana Are Back In Ms. Parker's Best To Date!!.......2003-10-14

Gail Connor, successful litigation attorney and single Mom is back along with daughter Karen, ex-husband Dave, and hunky fiance Anthony Quintana with a suspense thriller that will keep you up reading way past bedtime.

Gail, as always, is trying to juggle motherhood, her career, and her relationship with Quintana, a Cuban American defense attorney, and frequently comes up short. With her marriage only weeks away, a new house to be renovated, a troubled adolescent daughter, and an ex-husband who is battling her for custody of their child, she has more on her hands than usual. She is presently working on a difficult divorce case involving a millionaire, who pleads poor, and his abused wife. Then Gail receives a chilling anonymous phone call threatening her life. The call is repeated and her car is vandalized. Next, and most frightening, her daughter's life is threatened. Gail panics. If all this isn't enough to stress her out completely, she begins to suspect Anthony of shady dealings with organized crime.

Barbara Parker is at her best with this fourth novel in the Gail Connor series. Along with the chilling mystery she delivers intelligent insight into the Miami Cuban American community, both cultural and political. It is not necessary to read the other books in the series to appreciate and enjoy this one. I have read all four novels, in order, and am more addicted to the stories of the lives of the main characters, and their development, than to the mysteries. The characters are some of the most original, realistic and compelling that I have discovered in light fiction. Ms. Parker's people are not always nice, and the friction in their relationships is familiar, refreshing and on target. I highly recommend this book, as well as the other "Suspicion of..." novels.

"The World's Shortest Stories of Love and Death," edited by Steve Moss and John M. Daniel, is an anthology of stories that do not exceed 55 words in length. The introduction refers to the 55-word story as a "sub-genre of the short story." This collection demonstrates the possibilities of this sub-genre.

The stories cover a broad range of subject matter: technology, murder, sexual orientation, greed, lust, etc. The editors include science fiction and the supernatural. There are riffs on established literary works, and lots of pop culture references.

Although some selections are gimmicky, overall this is a good collection. A number of stories end with a twist. The book ends with a section entitled "How to Write a 55-Word Story," which should be particularly useful for teachers.

        5 out of 5 stars Wicked good!.......2004-01-03

This sweet little collection of very humorous, sad, and horrific(and that is in just one story)short stories is a lot of fun to read.Just like pistachio nuts...can't stop at one...so I read it all in one sitting...which isn't difficult of course!I'm buying the rest in the series today.

Remember: This is no huge novel filled with profound thoughts on every page. This is a little tiny book, filled with profound thoughts on every page!So chill out and accept it for what it is: A fun read...most of the time...and keep an eye out for sadness just around the corner.

A prominent lawyer who has just left one of the biggest Miami firms to open her own office, Gail Connor is used to stressful situations. She's in the middle of a nasty divorce and bitter custody battle, has moved into a new house that needs major renovations, and is engaged to another well-known Miami lawyer. As if this isn't enough, a stranger is calling Gail and threatening her 11-year-old daughter's life. Parker (Suspicion of Deceit, LJ 1/98) has written another suspenseful story that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. Despite some slow patches, it's intriguing enough to be recommended for all public libraries.

                      Book Description

                      The Boundary.

The greatest feat of magic in the history of Madryn. An impenetrable barrier, raised to imprison the Darklord Lorthas, bringing an end to the long and bloody MageWar.

Nearly a millennium has passed since the Boundary's creation, and its power is fading. The four Races struggle amongst themselves; their once-proud alliance is little more than a distant memory. Old enemies have resurfaced and new ones lurk in the shadows, eager to use the chaos to their advantage.

The truth is known by only two: Jeran, an orphan, raised by his uncle on a farm near the Boundary; and Dahr, an outcast, hiding from his past. Together, they must take news of the Boundary's fall to the King of Alrendria. Haunted with knowledge of the Darklord's weakening prison and pursued by Tylor Durange, exiled Prince of Ra Tachan, the boys race across Madryn, facing danger at every turn.

And yet their greatest threat may come, not from the Darklord, but from the secrets they try so hard to keep from themselves.

5 out of 5 stars Great epic fantasy .......2005-01-25

In the land of Madryn, the four races are forced to work together to defeat the evil Darklord Lorthas. The elves, the humans and the Garan'ah fought courageously at the final battle when the mages erected the Barrier to contain Lorthas. The Barrier is a magical mountain range with only one entrance, a portal guarded by a garrison of troops.

A millennium later, the segregated races keep totally to themselves distrusting one another. Young orphan Jeran lives on a farm near the Boundary; he befriends a runaway slave Dahr. The twosome share many happy times together before two outlaws thought to have been exiled inside the barrier attack their homestead. Jeran's uncle sends him to warn King Mathis that the Barrier is weakening. Accompanied by Dahr, Jeran meets allies and enemies in their quest to see the king; even after their message is delivered, the adventures of Jeran and Dahr are just beginning as the monarch has plans for his youthful messengers.

PATH OF GLORY is epic fantasy in the tradition of THE LORD OF THE RINGS and the SHANNARA series. The protagonists are two young people who must learn about their different heritages if they hope to understand what is happening and being able to help when the seemingly inevitable war begins. No one will be in a funk after reading this fine coming of age novel except those who fail to read the next tale, SWORD OF HONOR, in the Boundary Fall series.

                      5 out of 5 stars A Classic Fantasy by a New Author.......2002-07-16

Path of Glory, by Bret M. Funk, has all the clichés: reclusive Elves, powerful magicians, and
long-forgotten evil in a pre-industrial society. But if you thought the classic fantasy novel had
nothing left to offer, think again. Told mainly from the intimate perspective of two intriguing,
three-dimensional characters, Funk puts a realistic and thought-provoking spin on the typical
sword-and-sorcery tale. This first book in the Boundary's Fall series combines modern prose and

sensibilities with the epic storylines of Tolkienesque fantasy.

The story follows Jeran, a farm boy living with his uncle, and Dahr, an escaped slave whom
Jeran's family befriends and unofficially adopts. When two former warlords escape from a
magical prison, Jeran and Dahr find themselves saddled with the duty of reporting the news to
the king. They are aided by two Magi, who help Jeran discover his illustrious family roots and
                      his own magical abilities.

Jeran's ambivalence regarding his magical "gift" is one of many double-edged topics in Path of
Glory, and it adds a degree of thought and relevance that few fantasy writers even consider.
Magi are responsible for most of the civilization's greatest accomplishments, yet they are
resented for their power and have been hunted nearly to extinction. The mysterious Elves, while
revered as wise and nearly immortal, have both helped humanity and enslaved them at various
times in their history. The king of Jeran's land must cope with bickering politicians before he
can worry about the decay of a millennia-old magical Boundary. Not many fantasy novels
discuss the economic disadvantages of tariffs, but Funk avoids Star Trek preachiness by
introducing questions, not answers, and leaving the reader to draw his own conclusions.

In fact, just as with real bureaucracy, years pass before the various countries and races gear up
for the impending war reported by Jeran and Dahr. The story rejoins the boys, now young men,
as they embark on a diplomatic mission to the Elves-the first Elf-Human encounter in over a
century. The friendship is shared by a third, the young prince Martyn, who hasn't quite figured
out the balance between authority and responsibility. The journey along the title Path serves as a
test of strength and loyalty, especially when Dahr is forced to choose between his sworn duty
and his lifelong hatred of slavery. The book ends just as the party enters the Elves' domain,
leaving the rest of the story maddeningly untold until the next installment is published.

This novel is a character-centered work; events unfold in an episodic fashion, but the main
storyline barely gets beyond setup in this first entry of the series. Instead, we experience the
characters' everyday life. Dahr's knack with animals and Martyn's addiction to flirtation are
demonstrated in numerous character-building scenes. The writing is not nearly as concise as one
expects; scenes can exist simply for atmosphere and entertainment, but the witty dialogue among
Jeran, Martyn, and Dahr keeps boredom from setting in. The writing style wavers somewhat
between archaic formalism and modern slang, but taken as a whole it's a fast read and doesn't get
bogged down in purple prose. The whole novel has a warmth to it that is atypical of story-driven
fantasy and Sci-Fi; characters don't just exist to fill a plot point, they have their good and bad
points that grow on you over time. The strength of Funk's writing is his ability to evoke
sympathy for the characters; you are drawn in to their struggles without really noticing, and
putting the book down becomes more difficult each time.

However, there's more to Path of Glory than guilty pleasure. The author has taken great pains to
weave a history of his world; the tales of warriors and noble sacrifices will satiate even the most
hard-core fantasy reader. The descriptions of controlling and using magic are creative and
evocative on their own, but the passages truly come alive in the context of Jeran's experiences.
The bond between the reader and the characters heightens the drama of every situation, holding
the reader's interest throughout every extraordinary revelation.

Path of Glory makes the classic fantasy approachable for every reader, even those turned off by
fantasy series in the past. I'd recommend it for anyone interested in seeing down-to-earth
                      characters coping with larger-than-life events.

5 out of 5 stars An entertaining epic and a deftly written saga.......2002-07-06

Book One of Bret M. Funk's "Boundary's Fall" series, Path Of Glory is a high fantasy about Jeran (an orphan raised by his uncle on a farm near the Boundary) and Dahr (an outcast hiding from his past), two men who find that they must brave a perilous and uncertain journey in order to warn their king of an impending darkness, as the boundary that has sealed the imprisoned Darklord gradually weakens. The four major races of the world, once in alliance, are now squabbling, and new enemies seek to exacerbate the chaos to their own ends and benefits. Path Of Glory is an entertaining epic and a deftly written saga of hope, determination, and courage.

5 out of 5 stars Path of Glory (Boundary's Fall, 1).......2002-06-21

I enjoyed Path of Glory very much. It was little slow getting started as the author had to set up the world, characters and story, but a few chapters into the book it got very interesting. I found the characters so believable I feel as if I know them. The description was so well written, that I could have actually visited the places. The story gets a hold on you and you can't put it down. I can't wait for the next book. I think that is book is a definite must read. If you like books like the Wheel of time by Robert Jordan, you will love Path of Glory.

                      5 out of 5 stars A complete novel.......2002-05-28

Bret M. Funk's Path of Glory is the kind of book you often look for but rarely find. It is a complete novel; plot, setting, and character development are fully realized. Themes of loyalty, friendship, and courage are interwoven with the greater themes of good versus evil and the impossibility of knowing what we think we "know"-about historical facts, about other cultures, and even about ourselves.
The imaginative new world created by Funk is familiar enough to be easily understood, yet different enough to leave room for magic and extraordinary powers. The book is appealing and fresh, creative, and just plain fun. It is a fast read that can only be described as a rousing adventure, but the story is textured and the characters complex. I highly recommend Path of Glory to all age groups.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best books on natural health available today........2004-01-15

As a naturopathic physician, I have a rather extensive library of natural health books. The author's insight into disease, and prevention of disease is particularly insightful. Anyone who suffers from a chronic condition should read this book. Many chronic conditions are covered; but even if your's are not, the information presented is still valuable in the pursuit of overall health. It is truly a gem.

I always liked Joel Wallach's approach to health. He tells it like it is. I like how he disses the doctors who poo-poo nutritional supplementation.

In this book, Wallach lays out all kinds of newspaper clippings from various newspaper articles about doctors and famous people who died at young ages. Those clippings are appropriately placed in the section where the major mineral deficiency was the cause of death, such as chromium for a diabetic coma, etc.

This book is a wonderful source of information on minerals, and their functions. It also lays out all kinds of info on deficiency diseases, and how minerals can help certain ailments.

This section also covers a bunch of different alternative approaches to wellness, such as Ayurvedic medicine, the Dean Ornish Diet, and many others. The information is in depth, and covers a good amount of material for a book focused on mineral supplementation.

This book pretty much has it all, and is a great read if you wish to gain knowledge on the role of minerals in our health and well being.

5 out of 5 stars Rare Earths - rare gem of a read.......2001-11-19

I really liked this book. Lots of great info about how basic minerals effect your body and keep you healthy or make you sick. It gave me lots of new ideas.

It's more than a little gory at times. I guess doing 18,000 autopsies, gave the author sort of a callous view of life. The descriptions of what the Inca and Jack the Ripper did to their captives is not for the weak at heart. Hint: a deficiency of minerals causes strange cravings.

One new idea I really liked was the documentation of zinc deficiency in mothers that become pregnant as a cause of Down's syndrome. Apparently one can demonstrate this in the lab with monkeys or simians. Healthy babies then introduce a zinc deficiency in the diet and get Downs syndrome, then add the zinc back and get normal babies again. Wow!

A second idea: adding rare earths to the diet of mice and other animals extends life span by 2X! Wow, again! Excellent bibliography, but I was unable to locate this one paper on feeding rare earths to get 2X life span.

                      Excellent basic book.

                      I highly recomend.
