He's fast. She's furious. They're in for the ride of their lives. If you are into NASCAR and want to get a glimpse of the real "behind the scenes", this is your story. The ending is a little rushed and the "bad guy" isn't hard to figure out, but the overall story is a good read.

Magdalen Nabb's detective (The Marshall) is based in Florence and nobody captures the dark side of that brilliantly lit town better than Nabb.
"Property of Blood" represents a change for Nabb in that great chunks of this book are written as if in the first person, by a woman who has been kidnapped. I couldn't help but ponder whether Nabb herself had spent time with victims of this all too common Italian crime: the accounts of the Italianized-American fasion maven's plight are chilling. Nabb really gets inside her soul.
The tale is a page turner despite the fact that there are some things the reader knows right from the start. Those who are familiar with Nabb's work will recognize the intricate misunderstandings that The Marshall encounters because he, as usual, fails to acknowledge his own gifts and the esteem in which he is held by his colleagues.
Here, too, we meet the family dynamic of the Marshall's own relatives contrasted with that of the victim's family in the characteristic manner that is so revealing of modern Italian life.
Nabb is amazing and this may be her best yet. If you haven't read the rest of this remarkable writer's work, you are in for a real treat of both character development (start at the beginning of The Marshall's career) and excellence of story crafting.

I read this book about a year ago when I checked it out at my local library, so pardon me if I don't remember all of the details correctly. The opening of the book describes in intense detail a harrowing kidnapping, from the point of view of the kidnappee. You won't be able to put it down until the character is safely?? at home--actually you won't be able to put it down until you discover what actually happened at home to bring about the horrendous crime. The detective in this series is funny but has less personality than other detectives I enjoy. However, the story--which is set in the world of fashion--makes up for any defects. Enjoy!

I read this book with great interest since I had 9 rentals of my own. The information given and the stories told were EXACTLY what needs to be told to prospective investors. Rental property can make you money but you need to research your renters VERY closely. If you get just one bad renter you can loose all of your investment and it will cost you plenty. Mr. Heller tells true and compelling stories of REAL renters and it is very entertaining as well as informative.

Twilight Children seamlessly integrates beautiful writing, therapy, and compassion in one poignant book. Although these stories are based on the actual lives of three of Torey's patients, they read like fiction. The stories of Cassandra, Drake, and Gerda magically come to life in the book, just as each patient came to life while working in therapy with Torey. In addition to providing three captivating and touching stories, this book also offers valuable information on psychotherapy and its role helping both the patient and the therapist find their voices.

How can you not love Torey Hayden? My aunt introduced my mother to Torey. My mother introduced me to her. I introduced my partner to her. I have all her books and have enjoyed them all. I just have one last book to read of hers, *The Very Worst Thing*.
Torey is a teacher and a specialist in elective mutism. However, this book is a little different. She is now working a unit in a hospital. Although she works as a therapist, the teacher in her emerges from time to time.
*Twilight Children* revolves around 3 stories:
Cassandra is a bright girl. However, when she was 7 years old, her divorced father, lured her into the car and abducted her for 2 years. Cassandra returned to her mother, abused and distrustful of anyone.
Drake is a charismatic bright 4-year-old with a charming smile. The problem is that he doesn't talk to anyone, except to his mother. The grandfather doesn't make things easier for Torey because the grandfather expects magical results within a session.
Gerda is an exception. A nurse has asked Torey a favor to look in and assess Gerda. The thing is that Gerda is 82. Torey has no experience in geriatrics. Nonetheless, she tries to work with Gerda. Gerda has suffered a stroke and has no one around to care for her. While Torey tries to help her talk, Gerda tells her of a haunting past.
Rotating between the 3, Torey has to work with each individual and unique cases. I just love how Torey tells the story. I also love how she gives simple explanation of her assessment, theories and diagnoses. A couple of them were food for thoughts that I had to just share with other people for intellectual discussion. I love it when people are able to give you something substantial to think about.
Torey did not disappoint me with this book. She still remains to be the best.

I loved this book. I thought it was interesting. It was very sad as well. I thought it had a good mystery. Trying to figure it out was just like the real thing. I can't wait to read more of her books.

In this book, Hayden focuses on three of her patients. Cassandra is a sexually-abused girl who has a habit of making dangerous abuse allegations. But Hayden discovers that there is truth behind her stories. Drake is an adorable, outgoing boy who is mute with everyone except his mother. Hayden must figure out whether the boy truly cannot speak, despite his efforts to. She also works with Gerta, an elderly stroke victim, who speaks seldom. Whether her lack of speech is due to depression, having lost her family farm, or as part of the stroke, Hayden must discover.
All three stories are genuintely moving, though my favorite was Drake's. Highly recommended.

Very Useful Reference for a Personal Trainer/Exercise Physiologist.......2007-09-11
This book is great as a reference for a personal trainer, exercise physiologist, or someone who is taking classes related to Exercise Science, and/or even someone just interested in the subject. The book is clear in it's explainations along with being clear to understand. It has great images for a variety of resistance machines and gives detailed information on what muscles are being used, the joint action, the movement path (i.e. rotary or compound) along with proper technique tips. The book also gives information on the types of exercise such as isokinetic and isotonic. It also explains about your muscles and the benefits of exercise, etc. I think it's a great book to own and I highly recommend buying it!

Five years ago, after my first child was born, I discovered this book. I've always worked out and been pretty fit, but as a new mom, I realized I could no longer live at the gym. I needed to make my workout more effective, but do it in less time. By following Dr. Wescott's advise, I was able to cut my workout to 1 hour, 3 times a week (I used to workout 2 hours, 4-5 times a week), and increase my strength and endurance. Within 6 weeks, I noticed a huge difference in my strength (I had previously plateaued). Now that I have 2 kids, I'm in maintenance-mode, but follow the same principles outlined in this book. I cut my workouts down to 2 times a week (1 hour per workout), but am maintaining my physique and physical abilities.
This book definitely is worth getting.
excellent theory book.......2004-02-16
The book includes a description of free weight and other exercises, but the primary focus of the discussion of different excercises is Nautilus exercise equipment. Having said that, the book does an excellent job of discussing the theory behind setting up both strength and cardio training programs. It does a particularly good job of explaining and contrasting the various strength training approaches such as circuit training, high intensity training, and slow training. The book is a bargain for the price!

This book provides thorough descriptions of the Nautilus line of strength equipment. It also provides a 6 month training program using Westcott's technique of single set exercises for each body part. I have actually worked with Dr. Westcott and have experienced firsthand the positive benefits it yields on previously untrained people. Westcott has done extensive research with the Nautilus equipment and this book passes along what was learned from his studies. It is a good source of information for those looking to get started with exercise and strength training.
