Good Color Discussion.......2007-02-07
This is a basic use of color in design, tailored for quilts. I find it a useful reference.
Two Books Can Be Almost Identical.......2006-10-16
Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr, authors and quilt makers, have published two books on color. I enjoyed the first one, COLOR HARMONY, so I ordered the second, QUILTMAKERS COLOR WORKSHOP. I'm sorry to say the second is identical to the first except for some patterns, instructions, and templates. I would have appreciated a more complete description so that I wouldn't be returning the book.

Terribly boring but useful.......2007-07-24
I had to get this book for my textiles class. The book is done in a rather boring format (it is pretty much just a reference book, what did I expect?!) but it was extremely useful for that class and for many more I have taken. Interesting tidbits throughout the book if you are at all interested in fashion and textiles.

Understanding Extrusion.......2007-02-06
I am an engineering manager and needed a basic brush up on extrusion, this book delivered as advertised. It covered all the fundamentals with enough depth to make it useful. The information was up to date and well worth the time and money.
Book Description
"An attractive volume that simplifies and demystifies textile design."--Booklist. Crafters who work with fabric-quilters, embroiderers, cross-stitchers, sewers, weavers, and knitters-eventually wish they could create their own unique designs, rather than following someone else's patterns. Here's the best basic book on the market to show them how. With appealing color illustrations, the authors show how the most complex designs are built on a few shapes (like squares, circles, and triangles). They also show novice designers where to look for inspiration (like nature and other artists).
For the wannabe fabric designer, for anyone crafting with fabric, this book is a joy and a revelation.
oAppeals to a broad craft market, from knitters to sewers
oAimed at crafters of all skill levels
oHelp with designing, the area in which crafters feel the most need for guidance
"...the inspiration that The Fabric Design Book provides for the collaboration of hand, eye, and imagination makes it an excellent addition to anyone's library."--At Large, Embroiderers' Guild of America.

Not for me.......2006-06-29
A mass of facts and data hardly comprehensible with bad explanations and exampes, in my view.
A fast track DOE (Design of Experiments) course:.......2004-09-13
If the Experiment you are dealing with requires a statistical design and you're a novice to DOE, this would be an ideal book. The book explains the basic concepts of statistics with easily comprehendible examples. The chapters on factorial design are well organized and explained with hypothetical data. After reading this book you'll have a better understanding of factorial design jargons: confounding, interaction, linearity, factors, levels etc... This not a bulky book and you can finish reading it in one week.
Practical guide to a complex subject.......2002-02-13
This book provides a simple, practical, easy to understand approach to a potentially confusing subject. It quickly brings the reader to the point where they are able to design and run basic designed experiments. It provides enough statistical background to facilitate the basic understanding necessary for success without bogging the reader down with unnecessary theory.
Practical Application.......2002-02-07
As a manufacturing engineer, I have performed rather complex DOEs. The benefit for me from this book has been a deeper understanding of the theoretical side of DOEs while aquiring excellent practical advice for executing them. I was also involved in a training seminar with Mr. Del Vecchio, and very impressed with his ability to teach a complex subject with a down to earth approach.
For technologists in a hurry.......2002-02-07
Strikes a nice balance between theory and practice. Gives enough fundamentals to allow the reader to know the basics of what is going on with the analysis in designed experiments, but does not bog the reader down with complex equations that are best left to the user's computer software to crank through.
Provides practical guidance in selecting one experimental design over another, and the appendix allows one to set up multi-variable experiments with pen and paper - if the software in your program of choice is weak in this area.

Great insight on what it being a man is from 76 "experts".......2000-05-10
A wonderful book of photgrasphs and essays in which thesubjects write on what they think being a man is all about. DanielKaufman has compiled 76 different men from all differen races, agesand socio-econimic conditions. Each of these men write in theri own words what they think it means to be a man. I found this book 10 tems more insightful than any 600 page book written by some so-called expert with a PHD. Extremely insightful, I brought this book a few years ago and I still like to flip through it from time to time.
Book Description
No place celebrates Christmas like Dixie, and with this charming, humorous guide, anyone can learn how to deck the halls, Southern style
It's the one time of the year when both the divine and debutantes take center stage in a perfect storm of hot glue and cheese grits: Christmas. But successfully navigating through the holiday season can be more complex than Santa's midnight journey. There are pitfalls hotter than any chimney -- and social situations more slippery than any roof! But now The Official Guide to Christmas in the South has arrived to reveal the finer and sometimes unspoken details of Dixie etiquette.
Perfect for a true Southerner's coffee table or an imposter's survival guide, The Official Guide to Christmas in the South is the gift that will keep on regifting season after season.
Customer Reviews:
Quite Entertaining.......2007-10-03
Although I now live in the South & the delta area, they refer to me as a "Yankee" because I was born & raised north of Poplar Bluff. The book was quite entertaining, and I saw myself, my mother, neighbors, etc. in the book...except that my christmas pattern is Pfaltzgraff...hmmm, I guess I really am a "Yankee". I intend to bless my "southern Sisters-in-law" with each a copy for Christmas.
Fun book .......2007-08-18
This book is a fun read. You will laugh. I found many thing in this book so very true. Enjoy!
Makes a perfect gift!.......2007-08-04
Cute, quick read. I enjoyed finding myself on the pages. I'm a Spode Christmas Tree girl, myself. My grandmothers wouldn't have it any other way. Makes a great hostess gift!
not worth it.......2007-02-12
I usually adore "all those Southern books" but this one is not worth it. Just kinda stupid.
This book is a waste of time and money........2007-01-21
I grew up in the South and have lived in various parts of the South and this book does not capture "Christmas in the South." This book is a series of observations of 50 words or less, most of which lack any humor whatsoever. While the South does have it's traditions and unusual ways of doing things the book goes in an entirely different direction. Most of the writing is banal and boring with little anticipation about what is coming next. Do yourself a favor - spend your money and time somewhere else.
