Entertaining Bio of an Active Artist.......2006-03-05

Emanuel Radinsky was an innovative artist mid 20th century who worked mainly as a photographer, the hyper productive Man Ray.

Firmly part of the wacky Surrealist movement, his autobiography nonetheless plays no games and is a fairly straightforward, engrossing read. Nice insights into 20th century art world... Paris as well as New York.

Best aspect of the book are his many accounts of other artists & writers... Duchamp, Matisse, Ezra Pound, Henry Miller. Worst aspect is having to read about the creepy socialite crowd who were his patrons.

Delicious!.......2004-05-25

What can I say, other than thanks to Jack Handey for inviting me to read his book. This here is some side splittin' humor - the type that makes you worry about your guts!! I have to agree with Dirk when he so eloquently stated "this book is funny". Thanks to Jack for giving us never before seen material (Susan the Eubie) and for making this the best EVER!

Literary Genius.......2004-05-21

If you're a fan of the Deep Thoughts series, this is surely a must have. Unlike the Deep Thoughts, you now have stories that are as funny as the short quips you've previously seen. I only wish the book were longer because you find yourself wanting to read more and more. My personal favorite is the fried chicken story with his cousin Susan the "Eubie". You truly get a sense of the warped genius that created Jack Handey. This book is enjoyable enough to read again and again whenever you start to feel down. If I could give it 10 stars I would.

If you're only buying one Jack Handey book then buy this one. I love them all, but some are better than others, and this one is consistently great from beginning to end.

This Book is funny as well as it should be , it's jack after all
i have all of his books they're all funny , weird this book is no expection . a word to the wise don't drink or eat anything when reading this book . i'm just waiting for the next volume of deep thoughts until then i'll read fuzzy & the others for a laugh.
take care jack & keep martha in line haa . this weird warped journey through childhood for those who don't get dry sense of humor things i would'nt get this book but for those who do than i'd recommend it. it's real treat.

I think this is the best Jack Handey book. I should know, I have them all!My favorite story is about when he had his head out the car window and knocked off a dog's head! The only complaint I could possibly make is that it is a little short. Go buy this book nooooooooowwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the journal because when I look at the illustration on the cover it reminds me of how quirky, funny, and irrascible my own "fur family" of one dog and three cats are. The blank pages give me plenty of space to write the adventures they have had. It is "purfect" for the pet owner. I am grateful that the Get Fuzzy comics are there, for they lift my spirits.

This is in response to salerwee's review.

1.) Nowhere in the description did it say anything about being a 'comic collection'.

2.) The word "journal" is pretty much interchangeable with the word "diary".

3.) It's very unfair to give the actual book one star just because it wasn't what YOU were expecting. That's like giving a book on golfing one star because you THOUGHT it was about ping pong.

If it's not what you expected, contact Amazon and ask about a return. Do not give the book a low rating because you made a mistake.

Rate the book on what it IS, not on what it's NOT.

128 pages of blank lines !! Why don't they tell us up front that this is a NOTEBOOK? Thr usage of the word JOURNAL is not significant enough. I wish I had my $ 9.95 back.

Graham Chapman--you remember him as Brian, King Arthur, and innumerable characters from the BBC Monty Python series--died of throat cancer in 1989, yet he still manages to write a funny, nostalgic book. It's a pretty neat trick. Graham Crackers is not a sequel to A Liar's Autobiography, Chapman's cult classic. It is, however, a loose confederacy of sketches, reminiscing, and true-life escapades. Here's a memory from the filming of Life of Brian:

Let me say here that the matter of genital exposure is no particular problem to me--I am a doctor after all--but there was a problem in that we had this crowd of Tunisian extras--some 300 people posing as 600--and half of that number were women. And Muslim women are forbidden by Muslim law to see such things. It's absolutely forbidden for them to even think of viewing naughty bits. So when I flung open the shutter, half the crowd ran away screaming! That had a profound effect on my psyche. I'd like to think it was their religion...Yes, I'm sure that it was.

Python fans will love this offbeat, informal, delightfully addled book. And everyone else? Try it, you might like it.

I Cannot Print the Title That Works Best.......2006-09-25

Honestly, how many books can a guy write while deceased? And how many glowing reviews can a guy who's profiting from these books write before he sprains his wrist? This book is a shameless pile of trash that's been bound together and sold under the worst title ever in order to make someone else money. All writers have material that they know shouldn't see the light of day. If I could go back in time, I would buy Graham a shredder.

If you want to read about Graham's life, get A Liar's Autobiography instead. At least he was still breathing at the time his name went on as one of the authors.

This is a disgrace........2005-08-03

As a lifelong "alternative" comedy and Python fan, I wholeheartedly agree with the reviewer who acknowledged this book as "astoundingly bad" - this book has nothing to do with Graham Chapman. It was not written by him and it does not reflect him as the keen wit or comedic genius he was. Why anyone would want to cheapen Chapman's memory with a poorly edited, ghost-written collection featuring bits of his worst material as well as completely fabricated material I do not know. It clearly isn't making them much money. I am not sure why this is not illegal.

I also find it terribly low and dispicable that the author is clearly reviewing his own book. Do take a look; it's fairly obvious. I also noticed on another book by this author he had his own relative "reviewing" the book thus again upping the number of stars one sees when browsing for books. Don't fall for it.

Track down a copy of A Liar's Autobiography instead.

A disgrace to Graham Chapman's memory.......2004-02-25

This waste of paper is so astoundingly bad as to make one's jaw drop. It's another nail in the coffin of Graham Chapman's literary estate as those responsible continue to 'edit' and 'publish' any old scraps of rubbish which they can find. Chapman was a great comic talent and deserves something much, much better than this. If I could give it no stars at all, I would.

Graham Crackers (a rubbish title which demonstrates in itself how at odds with Chapman's own style of humour this book's 'editor' is) consists of scrappy, unfunny, rejected bits of Chapman material cobbled together with fake Chapman material by the 'editor'. It's not funny, it's not interesting, it's dreadful. Surely Chapman's family can stop this sort of thing.

I think it's very telling that no respectable publisher would touch this 'book' and it ended up being put out by a company which specialises in career guidance! And in the UK, I note, it couldn't find a publisher at all.

It is also obvious to those who know his distinctive style that many of the five-star reviews of this book here are actually the 'editor' posting from various e-mail addresses. Dear oh dear...

Have you ever had those moods where you wanted to read something simple, that wasn't nessisarilly an awsome book, but a good one to miander through? This is one of those books. It was fun to read and had me chuckling throughout! Learn how they came up with The Ministery of Silly Walks scetch, and even scripts that have never been released! Great book. If you have watched python and liked it, this book is for you.

Over the past three decades impressive progress has been made in documenting the development of encoding, storage, and retrieval processes in preverbal infants and children. This literature includes an extensive and diverse database as well as theoretical conjecture about the underlying processes that drive early memory development. A selective review of some of this literature is provided to illustrate the extent and scope of this research, what is currently known about how memory develops over time, and some of the questions that remain to be answered. Importantly, research on early memory development has provided insights into a number of longstanding issues that have been prominent in the memory literature more generally (e.g., the memory systems question, infantile amnesia). It has also yielded practical information relevant to memory functioning in real world settings (e.g., for forensic and clinical psychology). We conclude that the basic processes needed to encode, store, and retrieve information are present very early in life and that although significant developmental advances take place across early childhood, many of the processes that govern memory in preverbal children are common with those of verbal children and adults. These issues are discussed and future directions for research are suggested.
