A Ton of Fun and Laughter.......1998-08-05
For the inspiring cartoonist or just for a good belly laugh this collection of Herman is a must.
My all time favorite Herman toon is on page 95, of this Treasury, it's two crumbled soldiers talking about two French waitresses. Ever time I see it, I laugh to my side aches.

Book Description
The first trade paperback edition of the New York Times best-seller about West Point's Class of 1966, by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Rick Atkinson. This is the story of the twenty-five-year adventure of the generation of officers who fought in Vietnam. With novelistic detail, Atkinson tells the story of West Point's Class of 1966 primarily through the experiences of three classmates and the women they loved--from the boisterous cadet years and youthful romances to the fires of Vietnam, where dozens of their classmates died and hundreds more grew disillusioned, to the hard peace and family adjustments that followed. The rich cast of characters includes Douglas MacArthur, William Westmoreland, and a score of other memorable figures. The West Point Class of 1966 straddled a fault line in American history, and Rick Atkinson's masterly book speaks for a generation of American men and women about innocence, patriotism, and the price we pay for our dreams.
Customer Reviews:
Why I recommend this book.......2007-07-04
Atkinson does his usual in depth reporting of events. In this book he explores the culture of the times, the morals of the cadets and the long term effects of a misdirected war on an entire generation. As a Korean War veteran I could appreciate Atkinson's factual reporting of the events that transpired as the unprepared citizen soldiers entered their first fire fights.
By far the best book I have ever read.......2007-03-26
This is one excellent book. It is a must read for people who have been in the military and for that fact, anyone and everyone. This book starts with the Class of 1966 as the enter Westpoint. They start out as freshmen (I believe the term was plebes), the book takes the readers through the trials and tribulations of each of the main characters as they endure that first year. As the book progresses on you get to know each of the main characters as they experience school, romance, hard times, easy times, sad times and happy times. The book continues as they graduate from school and enter Vietnam. You experience the horror of war and the bond the forms with soldiers in combat. After Vietnam the reader will continue to follow the characters as they experience life after Vietnam. I was acutally hoping the book would not end. Being in the military I can relate to much of what the book was about. I highly suggest the book to anyone.
Highest recommendation...........2007-03-12
This is narrative American history at its finest; Atkinson is a master of the form. The author selects a handful of cadets from the Class of 1966, follows the twists and turns of their paths from West Point to Vietnam, and their re-entry into American life. If you enjoy William Manchester; Edmund Morris; H.W. Brands; etc., you'll love this. I own hundreds of history books, and this is among my favorites.
Surprisingly Relevant.......2007-01-08
This book has surprising relevance to the present moment because it seems that every generation has to re-learn that words such as "honor" and "glory" are platitudes used by men in suits to get 20 year olds revved up to do their killing for them.
This book follows a group of 1966 West Point graduates as they struggle through Viet Nam and beyond. This book chronicles a slice of life and a slice of history and is well worth the reading.
Highly recommend this.
A Special Book.......2005-09-28
Extraordinary; quite unlike anything else in its scope. It is a human chronicle, group biography, as well as social and military history. An astonishing depth of data is underpinned by solid, big-picture thinking and genuine feeling. Intellectually satisfying and deeply moving.
Book Description
An unforgettable autobiographical tale of survival during World War II. DeMaillie, pilot of a B-17, describes in riveting detail his successful bombing run from England to the industrial center of Germany. But things go very wrong on the return flight when his plane is struck by enemy fire and the crew is forced to parachute into Holland. Although a group of heroic Dutch resistance fighters try to hide him, the Nazis eventually capture DeMaillie and send him to a prisoner of war camp. There, he endures hunger, cold, and brutality until the Allies finally free him. Years later, he returns to Holland in search of his brave Dutch rescuers.

Very Helpful Book.......2003-08-13
This book was awesome and such a great help for our trip. The charts for each park that shows fear factor and height requirement was super helpful. We also bought the other unofficial guide to Disney and this one was by far the best. This one is easy to read and direct. The other book adds alot of unneeded jibberish.
Great Help!.......2003-08-12
This book puts the reader right on track. It answered questions I didn't realize I needed to ask.
Waste of $$$$.......2003-07-28
Waste of money for me. If you have never been to Disney before this book may be helpful to you. I have been several times with husband, friends, and adult family. We have our first trip coming up with our new family member - our 18mo little boy. The focus of this book is "with Kids". There was nothing of use to me in this book that anyone who has been to Disney even 1 time would not know already. Not much "kid specific" information. Disappointed. So if you've been to WDW before and are now taking your kids you should know everything in this book already. Good for 1st timers only.
This book saved us time and money $$.......2003-07-22
I bought this book looking for insight as we had never done Disney before and were going to be travelling with 4 children. What I found was a huge wealth of information and money saving tips. This book saved our sanity and wallets!
Don't Plan a Trip Without This Book.......2003-07-08
As a single Dad, I found this book to be invaluable. It was a quick read. I was able to plan everything before I left so that I could enjoy Disney World with my children while I was there. Buy it, read it and follow its advice!
Book Description
This study covers the world outlook for fine-point markers and thin-line writing pens across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This Battleground Europe volume traces the history of a French village through the British retreat of 1914, German occupation, and the final battles of 1917-1918.
Book Description
In 1948, Christians from 147 churches in 44 countries gathered in Amsterdam in a demonstration to a war-torn world of their unity in Jesus Christ. Unequivocally focused on "the Jesus Christ of Scripture . the God we know as Father, Son and Holy Spirit," their vision was to encircle the globe with a common commitment to one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all. A passion for worldwide evangelization beckoned these denominational leaders to the Dutch city while, out on the frontiers, their missionaries long had known that the faith they shared transcended doctrinal differences. Called to win the world for Jesus Christ, they determined that they must engage in this work together. Thus, those leaders formed the World Council of Churches. Today, a cruel alchemy has morphed the council's mission into dross that its founders would not recognize. Its postmodern passion to embrace non-Christian ideologies raises the question, "Who is converting whom?" The council deems conversion itself as ecclesiastically objectionable, derailing the mission that the Amsterdam gathering so clearly defined. The texts of the Presbyterian Church (USA) hymn book illustrate this exchange. "O for a thousand tongues to sing my dear Redeemer's praise" has been replaced as the preferred version by "O for a world where everyone respects each other's ways." Mutations toward a sterile and amorphous "oneness" find similar expression among other mainline leaders who chart the course of the World Council of Churches. Vanishing Point is a reporter's notebook from the 9th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where the organization's leaders labored mightily to move the worldwide church in a worldly direction.

Great resource!.......2005-04-08
The author really understands what it's like to travel with children. Great resource for anyone visiting Dinsey with kids to know how to make the most of your time there. Don't leave home with out reading this book. You'll know how to get the most out of it for your kids - and yourself!
extremely helpful.......2004-09-08
We found this book invaluable for our trip to WDW this summer! The tips are downright priceless, like using Goofy's Barnstormer roller coaster as a test to see if your child can handle Big Thunder Mountain. On the author's advice, we allowed ourselves to split up so that my older son and my husband rode Space Mountain and Splash Mountain first thing in the morning, while my daughter and I hung out in Toon Town and Fantasyland before the crowds were too bad. We saved a lot of time and avoided the super long lines of the afternoon.
Disney and kids.......2004-06-20
I did not find this book to be of great assistance. I found much more helpful information on the web. Allearsnet.com and magictrips.com were of particular help.
Just changed the year on the cover.......2004-03-22
I bought this same book's 2002 edition as we were to travel to Disney then. Something came up & we couldn't go, so we are going this year. I bought the 2004 edition expecting some updates. When I compared them side by side, they were exactly the same, even down to the page numbers the chapters started on. I think to just change the year on the cover is misleading. The info in the book is good but I returned the 2004 edition and will just use the 2002.
The Best Yet!.......2004-02-23
There are many really great books out describing WDW, and this is certainly one of them. However, the reason I rank this one so highly is because it is the only one that is available for Universal Orlando. I have never been to Universal before and didn't have too much time to waste on my recent vacation. This guide allowed me to completely plan my visit so that I could maximize our time and not exhaust my family's energy or fun levels. We also visited WDW, and it was nice to have one book for two excellent vacation sites.

Book Description
WHAT IS LATENT DEMAND AND THE P.I.E.?
The concept of latent demand is rather subtle. The term latent typically refers to something that is dormant, not observable, or not yet realized. Demand is the notion of an economic quantity that a target population or market requires under different assumptions of price, quality, and distribution, among other factors. Latent demand, therefore, is commonly defined by economists as the industry earnings of a market when that market becomes accessible and attractive to serve by competing firms. It is a measure, therefore, of potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) or total revenues (not profit) if a market is served in an efficient manner. It is typically expressed as the total revenues potentially extracted by firms. The “market” is defined at a given level in the value chain. There can be latent demand at the retail level, at the wholesale level, the manufacturing level, and the raw materials level (the P.I.E. of higher levels of the value chain being always smaller than the P.I.E. of levels at lower levels of the same value chain, assuming all levels maintain minimum profitability).
The latent demand for fine-point markers and thin-line writing pens is not actual or historic sales. Nor is latent demand future sales. In fact, latent demand can be lower either lower or higher than actual sales if a market is inefficient (i.e., not representative of relatively competitive levels). Inefficiencies arise from a number of factors, including the lack of international openness, cultural barriers to consumption, regulations, and cartel-like behavior on the part of firms. In general, however, latent demand is typically larger than actual sales in a country market.
For reasons discussed later, this report does not consider the notion of “unit quantities”, only total latent revenues (i.e., a calculation of price times quantity is never made, though one is implied). The units used in this report

Book Description
All Christians wrestle with the same problem: How to make a solid, truly compelling argument for Christianity that the non-believers in their lives haven't already heard (and rejected) a thousand times before. Finally, with Penguins, Pain and the Whole Shebang, we have an answer to that problem. The ultimate complement to C. S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters, Penguins is an imminently accessible (and--surprise!--imminently funny) little book in which God himself (!) answers the very real, very persuasive reasons people most typically give for why they're no more interested in becoming Christian than they are in becoming, say, dog food tasters or human cannonballs. Penguins, Pain and the Whole Shebang is an unorthodox way to deliver the Good News. And that's exactly why it works.

Perfect Penguins.......2006-09-15
Thank GOD for this book! I laughed until I cried. This book was so fun to read. Pure genious. You have very carefully understood GOD'S word and helped to drive home some very important points in a memorable way. It is a book that I will read again.
Christians can have a sense of humor too!!!.......2006-06-07
I enjoyed this book. It was refreshing to read a book with a spiritual message that was not "preachy" but down-to-earth. Often times, when I am done reading a book with a christian message, I feel like a child that has just been given a lecture. This was nothing like that. It was thought provoking and intelligent. It was also funny. It was nice to know there are fellow christians out there that remember that God gave us a sense of humor and it is nothing to be ashamed of. I recommend this book for both believers and non-believers of any age, but I especially think that generation X needed something like this.
Finally, good theology with humor!.......2006-05-25
This wonderful little book gives you God's perspective on all those questions that believers, non-believers, and pre-believers ask. This is the book you want to give that non-believing friend, not so much in an effort to convert them, but to at least help them understand why it is you believe. Not for the easily offended, but written with just the right amount of humor and tact. If you can only read one book this summer, this is it.
Poet Lady.......2006-05-17
John Shore has knocked the walls down between here and There. A soliloquy by, ahem, GOD? It's crazy, it's totally pretentious, it's dangerous. It's wonderful! With his quirky humor and an uncommon sensitivity to both human need and theological sacred cows, Shore has bent the rules of spiritual writing until they . . . no, they don't break, they vibrate-like a tuning fork. In the hands of the One Who made the rules. Get a copy, and prepare to enjoy a rollicking good time-and, almost without realizing it, a Feast.
serious fun.......2006-05-17
John Shore is both very funny and very serious at the same time. This book takes little time to read, yet it answers many profound questions, gives you lots of chuckles, and makes you think. His personal conversion story at the end of the book is very powerful. For me as a Christian, the book helped me with questions I struggle with, especially the question of evil. I would definitely share this book with those who are attracted to Christianity and want to check it out but have been turned off by the image of Christians we unfortunately see too often - legalistic, exclusionist, voicing judgment instead of love. This book offers an alternative vision of a loving, healing, life-affirming God with a sense of humor to boot!
