Book Description
This sequel to the best-selling Growing Old is Not For Sissies teaches us to reevaluate the popular associations of age with increasing malaise and infirmity. Instead, it presents 100 vital, compelling portraits of senior athletes accompanied by personal statements and poems on aging. Growing Old is Not for Sissies II is testament to the joy of physical activity and of living to a ripe old age. Fourth printing. By Etta Clark.
Customer Reviews:
Gotta love the [...] kicking old farts.......2007-09-09
As a 50 year old runner and biker, I loved this book. I am now firmly entrenched in middle age and need the occasional inspiration to get out on the trails of Houston especially during the brutally hot summers. This book is full of what I need. A beautifully photographed and written book portraying active seniors competing and loving life, some well into their 90s. Truly amazing. The book is generally formatted with a picture and a few paragraphs written about and in some cases by these special people. By personal favorite is 83 year old surfer "Woody" Brown pictured with his 6 year old son Woody Jr. (Yep.... do the math) A copy of their picture is posted on my refrigerator for those days I hesitate to lace up the running shoes.
Wonderful gift idea!!!.......2007-04-15
I have bought this book now as a birthday gift for my father, my husband and two of our friends (all of whom are athletes who are definitely NOT sissies!). It is such a beautiful testimony to the fact that age is just a number. I hope someday I might qualify to be in one of Etta Clark's future edition of this book.
Stirring Art.......2006-03-11
Etta Clark scores with Growing Old is Not For Sissies II. Her book is filled with beautiful photography and a second look at some of the subjects from her first book. With frank honesty, she captures the essence of her subjects once again. An excellent book of art for any fan of photography.
A Must for Anyone Working in Gerontology.......2003-01-28
This book is a must for anyone who works with older adults. It is a photographic essay of some very special people....people who embrace the robustness of life, and who are disciplined to maintain their capabilities as long as possible. Our world is steeped in ageism, that is, believing that older people are only capable of doing things that are "appropriate" for their age. This book shatters those beliefs and provides living examples of people who continue doing what they love to do physically. I wish that Etta Clark would revise this book with a new set of photos every year! I have seen some of these photos over and over again in lectures that people give about aging. It is a book to be owned, not borrowed.
So inspiring, I think I'll run a marathon!.......2000-09-09
Just one look at the photos and all your excuses for being a couch potato go out the door. This book is filled with inspirational photos of senior athletes. Helen Zechmeister, age 91, works out 3 days a week, deadlifts 200 pounds and can do the full splits. A competitive swimmer, Marie Wilcox-Little at 73 has a much better figure than I could ever hope to have (I'm merely 30). My favorite: Ivor Welch,(Volume 1)was never active until 83 when his wife his wife passed away. To mourn her death he started walking, then running, then running marathons. By the age of 90 he ran five marathons and 2 half marathons! If Ivor can do it, by golly, so can I! A must have for anyone who wants to enjoy life to its fullest!

Leica M: Advanced Photo School (A Lark Photography Book)
ASIN: 0906447585 |
Book Description
Personalties around the Leica such as Ernst Leitz II, Oskar Barnack, Henri Dumur, Paul Wolff, Heinrich Stockler and Julius Behnke come to life again through Walther Benser’s tales and recollections presented to us in a new light. The Leica lecture tours, started by Anton Baumann, soon became Benser’s specialty with which he achieved world-wide recognition. He took his shows not only around Germany but also into neighboring countries even after he war had begun. As a result of his photographic activity he eventually became a war reporter. Then came the battle for survival, both during and after the war – and the Leica always played an important and often decisive role. Finally he resumed his lecture tours, earning great success across the continents, both for his own pictures and for the Leica. He then started his own business, which finally grew into a large color-picture agency. These are the stages in Walter Benser’s life with the Leica, periods he lived through and helped to mold with every camera model, from the Leica I to the M6.

Shonen Jump Series 1 Books.......2007-01-04
This was a gift for our son for Christmas! It was great he has read most all of them and now wants most of the series.
Shonen Jump Manga Magic.......2005-11-09
This is easily the best collection of Americanized manga out. As most know, Shonen Jump was at one time a Japanese exclusive magazine that made its hop across the Pacific in 2003 for American fans to enjoy. Since that moment, it's become the best in manga and now contains a majority of the manga juggernauts.
This collection is a great start for those of you who are interested in reading manga, or for those of you who missed out on some of the earlier issues of Shonen Jump and want to catch up on what's going on. It also has the beginnings to the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z mangas, which can't be found in Shonen Jump.
Below is a listing of the manga in this box, as well as a small description of each:
(1) Dragon Ball: This is the start of the Dragon Ball world. It explains the origins of Goku and his relationship with the Dragon Balls.
(2) Dragon Ball Z: The beginning of one of the greatest animes ever in its purest form. Unpolluted with minutes-long shouting and infested with excellent action and story, this details the story of Goku as a father and a husband, as well as following some of the other favorites of the Dragon Ball world.
(3) Naruto: Probably the best in Shonen Jump, Naruto is a tale of a boy fox-demon who wants nothing more than to earn his place in the world, and does so by training to become a ninja, despite the mistrust directed at him by some of his teacher and the hatred he receives from his fellow students.
(4) One Piece: A boy eats the mysterious Devil Fruit at a young age, making his body into rubber and also cursing his body: should he ever fall into water, he would sink instantly to the bottom. Despite that, he wants nothing more than to be the pirate king of a world of oceans.
(5) Shaman King: Yoh, a boy who can not only see ghosts but control them, comes to Tokyo to train to become a powerful shaman in the hopes that one day he'll win the title of Shaman King.
(6) Yu-Gi-Oh!: A story of constant morals and themes, it details a young, pint-sized, pointy-haired boy's struggles with a mysterious puzzle/necklace that grants him dark super powers as well as an alter-ego.
(7) YuYu Hakusho: A juvenile delinquent dies saving a child and finds out that his next was entirely unexpected and therefore gains a chance to come back to life. What he later finds out is coming back to life also makes him a spirit detective.

Dragonball #19, My Review.......2003-03-10
This book is really cool. If I had to put it in a category, I'd say it's a drama/comedy. A really cool part is when Vegeta kills Nappa. These mangas use the original names too. Instead of Krillin it's Kururin. Instead of Chiaozu it's Chaozu. Instea of Tien Shinhan it's Tenshinhan, and the funniest of all instead of Ox King, it's Gyu Mayo! This manga is good stuff!
Dragon Ball Z, Excelent.......2001-03-02
If your into comics/manga then put Dragon Ball Z at thetop of your list! Ihave benn a fan of DBZ for around two years and can say I've tried a thousand tiimes to trey and do the awsome martial arts moves they do. This book DBZ Vol.3 is excellent. It covers the battle between Goku vs Nappa and Vegeta. I would suggest reading the first book to get a fair idea of what is going on, follow the story from when Goku fghts his alien brother Raditz to when he fghts the almighty Mr Buu or Buu. 10 out 10

Meanwhile, the mysterious warrior Trunks appears from the future, with an alarming message!
Customer Reviews:
Jared's review.......2006-03-22
I enjoyed this book, but thought it could be a little bit longer. I liked the part where Freeza got sliced up by his own energy disk. The best warrior in the universe did suicide!!! It was fun reading for any Dragon Ball Z fans.
First Appearance of the BEST DBZ character.......2005-01-17
Freeza has escaped Namek and is coming to Earth. With Goku not back from Namek yet, the Z-fighters know that things are hopeless, yet they decide to die fighting. Our heroes are in more trouble than they thought. Another power, strong like Freeza's is coming to earth. It is Freeza's father, King Cold. Will Goku come back to a planet riddled with destruction?
As the Z-fighters believe that it is truly hopeless now, a mysterious boy wearing a Capsule Corporation jacket comes from nowhere to challenge Freeza and King Cold. What is he thinking? The only way he can have a chance is by turning into a Super Saiyan, and there is no way that can happen. Whoops. Spoke too soon. Trunks has turned into a Super Saiyan. As the heroes rejoice to the defeat of the evil in the universe, it is cut short by the boy's prediction of doom. The Red Ribbon Androids want revenge against Goku for stopping the plans for world domination held by the Red Ribbon Army (see Dragon Ball 5-8).
Can three years of training be enough to stop the Androids that destroyed Trunks' timeline?
#12 lives up to the name Dragonball Z.......2004-07-16
This book,(like the other 11 before it) is amazing. However their is one bad thing about this book... it's the last one that I need to complete my set because after this book, all of the rest of them are in shonen jump (which I also highly recommend). So now that I have 1-12 I have decided to start reading dragonball. If Dragonball is ANYTHING like the Dragonball Z manga then it must be amazing. All there is else to say is congratulations Akira Toriyama for such an amazing creation!
DBZ #12 is the best!.......2003-10-20
This might be my favorite DBZ manga yet since Trunks is my favorite character. It starts when Freiza's gets cut in half and Goku nearly escapes Planet Nameks distruction. After that Frezia appears with King Cold. Just in time Trunks shows up and destroys Freiza and his father. Goku comes back and Trunks tells him that he came from the future and about the androids. Read it! The manga is much better than the TV show.
He's heeeeerrrrrrreeeeeee!.......2003-09-14
Mirai no Trunks, or Future Trunks, shows up in the new DBZ volume, making the coolest character debut in any anime or manga in existence! The Frieza saga finally ends, and the Androids/Cell saga begin with this volume, as Trunks gives Goku a warning of danger(ps, that's also the title of a DBZ song). So, the Z-senshi, including Kuririn, Tenshinhan, Yamcha, and Chaozu, who all come back from the dead in this volume, train for three years. What will they face?! Will the training be enough? Find out, as the sequel to the original DB Red Ribbon Army story begins!
