Surface contamination is of cardinal importance in a host of technologies and industries, ranging from microelectronics to optics to automotive to biomedical. Thus, the need to understand the causes of surface contamination and their removal is very patent. Generally speaking, there are two broad categories of surface contaminants: film-type and particulates. In the world of shrinking dimensions, such as the ever-decreasing size of microelectronic devices, there is an intensified need to understand the behaviour of nanoscale particles and to devise ways to remove them to an acceptable level. Particles which were functionally innocuous a few years ago are “killer defects” today, with serious implications for yield and reliability of the components. This book addresses the sources, detection, characterization and removal of both kinds of contaminants, as well as ways to prevent surfaces from being contaminated. A number of techniques to monitor the level of cleanliness are also discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the behaviour of nanoscale particles. The book is amply referenced and profusely illustrated.

I thought this was a great book! It really helped me to recognize my food triggers and examine the reasons behind why I overeat. I have defintley used this book to eat less, because I have been able to keep myself from eating out of boredom or other emotions from the tips and tools in this book. I would highly recommend it!

Light on technique and obnoxiously worded ..........2007-06-14

This book does have value, but it has extremely serious flaws.

As others have pointed out, the book is heavy on explanatory material and inspirational biographies and light on technique. Additionally, its spacious graphic design and large font seem to have been chosen to make fewer words fill more pages.

Significantly, this book was OBNOXIOUSLY gynocentric in its word choices. Not only was there not one single male pronoun in the book, there were very few entirely gender-neutral sentences (even references to "someone" were quickly followed up with "she", etc.). It was, "a woman feels", "she may", etc. As a man reading the text, this had the effect of constantly distancing me from the advice being given. Yet I think female readers might equally find insult in the book's similar assumption that its female readers are exclusively straight and exclusively married -- with no references to boyfriends or partners, only to husbands and children. If the concept of emotional eating were not so (relatively) new, I would have suspected the text to have been imported whole from the 1950s.

I also cannot help but laugh at the irony of what a poor choice of titles this is. For people who are dealing with loneliness, self-blame, and anger, asking them to carry around a book whose cover features, in extremely large letters, the words "STOP STUFFING YOURSELF!" can only be an exercise in cruelty, if unintentional cruelty.

I will not say this book was useless (which is why I won't give it a single star) — it did contain some phrases, concepts, and techniques I found useful, but nowhere near enough in number to justify anything more than a handout. I imagine emotional eating must be covered much more adroitly in other texts, and I urge you to investigate them and not this.

Very insightful especially if you are doing Weight Watchers........2007-05-07

If you are on the WeightWatchers diet get this book. it is insightful and it gives you alternate alternatives.

Eye Opener.......2006-02-23

This book was a real eye opener for me. I had no idea about some of the topics discussed in most of these chapters. No diet or lifestyle change works over night, and I think that this book helps explain that in the simplest way.

OK, for what it is........2005-10-02

This is the same stuff one finds in the women's magazines at the checkouts or maybe this is where they may have got some of their articles. The "why do you eat" quiz was my favourite part of the book & helpful. I have lent this to other friends & they liked it as well. Evidentlty they don't buy women's magazine . All in all a so-so addition to my library.

I really found this book to be useful. I leave it at work for all who feel like they need to try something new to alleviate the anger that can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Emotional Control Within Eight Weeks.......2006-06-12

This book promises a lot: in effect that if you follow the clearly laid plans, self-control and serenity can be yours within eight weeks. The authors say that greater self-control will improve not just emotional but physical health. Dr Redford Williams was one of the people who first found an apparent link between Type A personality and the development of coronary artery disease, so it is not surprising that the authors focus on this link. More recent research has not been so clear that there is a connection between Type A personality and heart disease, and much interest has shifted toward the "Type D" personality, which refers to the tendency to experience negative emotions and to inhibit the expression of these negative emotions in social interactions. Stress and hostility do seem to be involved in the development of coronary artery disease, and perhaps also other heart and health problems, by lessening our normal heart rate variability.

Leaving aside those technical quibbles, I don't think anyone could deny that gaining greater control of our emotional life is a good thing. Drawing on the burgeoning science of positive psychology, the book begins with self-assessment quiz and ends with advice on increasing your level of optimism.

The main strategies that the authors recommend are certainly sound:
1. Recognize your emotions
2. Weigh the evidence of situations, so that you think before you act
3. Gaining control of your reactions
4. How to resolve problems and implement solutions
5. Assert yourself and learn to say no
6. Improve communication
7. Empathize with others
8. Learn to "look up, " i.e. how to be happy and optimistic

Each chapter is peppered with interesting and appropriate cases.

Most of the advice is intuitive. My only concern with the book, and why I'm giving four stars, is that there is almost too much information in it. I say that with the greatest sympathy: my agent and editor constantly makes the same charge against me! It seemed to me as if the book contained just about every piece of psychological advice that I've ever seen. Including a few techniques that have been shown not to work. The one that jumped out at me was the advice to snap a rubber band against the wrist. Something that was popular many years ago, before empirical research showed that such interruption strategies are not very effective. I have known a few people use the technique with such vigor that they've made their wrists black and blue!

There is nothing about any of the other techniques like thought field therapy that can often be helpful with emotional problems like anger, but since there is little published data on the "tapping therapies," that is not a criticism of the book.

With those couple of caveats I still recommend the book as a compendium of psychological approaches to managing anger. If anger is a problem for you or for those around you, this book is a good place to start.

Finding the "Off" Switch.......2006-03-21

As someone who teaches and coaches around anger management issues, I was delighted to read the Williams' simple, straightforward plan for getting anger under control. Following a clear explanation of the factors that create people out of control, this book details a plan for regaining and maintaining emotional control. The plan is easy to follow. None of the steps are so threatening that they can't be attempted on your own.
It's not so hard helping people learn a STOP mechanism; it's harder to guide them through the steps that lead to and maintain balance and appropriate reactions. This book does just that and I plan to use it and recommend it often.

The turkey may be the centerpiece of the Thanksgiving table but we all know that the stuffing (we always called it dressing)is the litmus test of the the entire dinner. Rick Rodgers, known for his turkey day bible, Thanksgiving 101, showcases stuffing(dressing) and gives us a regional breakdown.

I have long read about the delicacy of cornbread stuffing, a decidely Southern version of stuffing/dressing. So in my pursuit of a knowledge of American culinary history, I made Mason-Dixon Cornbread Dressing with Bacon and Pecans. WOW! This was a perfect match for my deep fried turkey. This Yankee surrenders to the delicacy of our Southern cuisine. My friends and neighbors were at first skeptical of that pot of oil boiling away in the backyard, but when they got a taste of the meat and a sample of the cornbread stuffing, they are now believers that Southern cuisine is exquisite.

But this book is not a showcase of Southern cuisine. It is Greek, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Cajun and Southwestern cuisine as well. You won't have to limit your stuffing/dressing meals to Thanksgiving anymore. These are delightful side dishes to accompany any meal.

This book may not have any pictures but each stuffing that I have tested has turned out perfectly delicious. There are stuffings for any taste. There are chapters on bread stuffings, cornbread stuffings, rice and grain, fruit and vegetable and finally, meat stuffings. My family's favorite is the Florentine sausage, ricotta and spinach. I especially appreciated the pages on how to make a perfect roast turkey with gravy. Don't wait until the holidays to try out these recipes!

Move over, Stove Top!.......1999-06-27

Face it, given the choice of side dishes, most of us will choose stuffing over rice or potatoes any day. Unfortunately, most of us also consider the only options to be our Mom's Thanksgiving stuffing, or else something out of a box. Now there are a few new ideas. All the recipes work well either stuffed into a turkey or a chicken (or even into an acorn squash), or baked in a casserole. Sourdough bread stuffing, with artichokes & sun-dried tomatoes is one of my favorites. It's never been easier to get creative with dinner!

Photographic record of life in Site 2........2001-01-25

A collection of black-and-white photographs depicting life in miserable camps of Cambodian displaced persons strung along the Thai border. The photographs are interwoven with touching personal stories. These are not beautiful images, but then nothing in the camps was ever beautiful to my eyes. Those Cambodian-Americans who were interned in the camps and those who worked with humanitarian agencies involved in programs along the Thai-Cambodian border will want to own this book. Forwards are by the Dalai Lama and Dith Pran. The reader cannot help but wonder what "repatriated" Cambodians who once resided in the camps would have to say today. Was that chaotic mass repatriation back to troubled Cambodia truly a United Nations success story, or was one misery simply exchanged for another, with the victims conveniently moved out of sight, or is the truth somewhere in between? Kari Rene Hall's fine work cries out for a sequel and follow-up research work inside Cambodia, where things have never been easily understood even by those most intimately involved.
