Book Description
To combine architecture and imagination in a fashion as light and variable as clouds was the credo proclaimed by Wolf D. Prix and Helmut Swiczinsky when they founded the practice of Coop Himmelb(l)au in 1968 in Vienna (Himmelblau = heavenly blue). Their radical, iconoclastic and deconstructivist approach to architecture expresses the energy and tension of each site and location in spectacular fashion. Among the projects that established their international reputation are the Groningen Museum pavilion and Dresden UFA Cinema Complex. Their work has also featured in numerous exhibitions and they have represented Austria at the Architecture Biennial in Venice. This monograph is the first publication to present the theoretical and conceptual content of Coop Himmelb(l)au's oeuvre.

The detail in this book is absolutely AMAZING!
This book is NOT for the complete beginner.
I would classify this book as being for the more advanced artist.
Explanations are clearly given in great detail.
I actually purchased this book for myself then GOT a SECOND copy from a friend of my mine who KNOWS just how intricately I draw fairies.
She didn't think I had the book yet so she sent it to me!
Definitely one of the all time BEST books ever made on designing fairies.

The book was beautifully illustrated and the several mediums explained in detail. The choices in designing a Fairie from the choices given of the faces and clothes were well detailed. I am enjoying trying new ideas and mediums.

This book has been taken out of the Library several times since I purchased it for our collection in Jan. My hobby is painting, and I thought the directions and examples were well written and illustrated. A very good book for the beginner to intermediate watercolor enthusiast.

Photos are wonderful, the demos really help one to see how to get from your photo to a painting - to see from both the photographer's eye and the painter's eye. For those of you that sometimes get stuck in the detail of the photo and want to loosen up - this is a very helpful demonstration. A wonderful kickstart if you're having a "block" too - you do WANT to paint from these photos! Happy Painting!

From his reassuring (you can do this!) introduction to his beautifully illustrated and explanations on the techniques of creating a watercolor painting you can be proud of, Dowden succeeds in writing a book that can actually teach a newbie how to paint with watercolors. Each section of the book is laid out the same: illustrations show what colors you will be using for a project, and what type of paper, brushes and other materials to use. Then Dowden gives a written description of what you are to do, step by step, followed by clear photographs of each step as it is done. Topics include needed materials, use of color, washes, and many different techniques like mottling and sponging to make paintings interesting. Dowden finishes the book with ten projects the new painter can do if s/he follows the steps illustrated and discussed. I am a new painter, took some lessons which weren't helpful, bought several books which intimidated me, and finally found the book that actually gave me the courage to stop reading and start painting!

Adams and Casstevens combine top-notch botanical briefs for each of the featured species with superb photographs. The botanical data is sufficient for appropriate identification and interesting notes about the plants are plentiful. The authors are commended for recognizing the importance of the composition of the photographs. They are not only useful for identification purposes, they are each masterpieces of photographic art. Adams teaches how to create similar photographs. Clearly this book was not just thrown together, but was carefully crafted by geniuses.

This book would make the perfect gift for anyone who lives in Georgia and loves flowers, or for someone who has just visited Georgia and would like to take home a beautiful visual memory. The photography is wonderful, with some flowers shown close up and others as fields or wide views. The photos are grouped according to the section of Georgia in which they were photographed, and there is a wonderful introduction about the areas of Georgia and some information about the camera and lenses used.

This is an absolutely stunning book visually - from a purely aesthetic point of view, and as documentation of the way flowers change from bud to demise. There is also some interesting text accompanying, and a number of lovely poems and quotes.
For anyone who is a flower lover, a lover of nature, or a photographer, this book is a "can't go wrong" Also makes a great and unusual gift.
