Book Description
Biedermeier furniture and interior design are recognized today as the first great flowering of haute bourgeois taste in interior design. Biedermeier is a style with great range, from austere to sumptuous, but it is never ostentatious in its celebration of comfort, domestic intimacy, and practicality. Beginning in the early nineteenth century, these bourgeois ideals in design were pursued by a wide range of society from the Hapsburgs and Hohenzollern to the middle class, from Middle Europe to Italy, yet Biedermeier's innate classicism, its lyrical yet elegant forms, have made it an influential inspiration in our own time. The World of Biedermeier celebrates the elements of a wonderfully appealing stylethe furniture, decorative elements, paintings, crystal, porcelain, fabricsas no other recent book on furniture and design. Created out of an enraptured obsession with Biedermeiershared by Karl Kemp, the renowned antiques dealer, and Linda Chase, the noted interior designer and writerthis book is an extraordinary paean to an irresistible style. The hundreds of brilliant color photographs by Lois Lammerhuber set a new standard for design and furniture photography, and the book has been opulently designed and produced. To experience the story of Biedermeier, we explore enchanting castles, royal residences, a Roman-inspired bathhouse, museum attics, and storage annexes in Vienna, Berlin, and elsewhere. Lammerhuber was the first photographer granted free access to the extraordinary holdings of the Hofmobiliendepot, the Imperial Furniture Collection in Vienna. Here too are the treasures of the Hofburg Silberkammer museum, plus features on the work of the great Biedermeier designers Joseph Danhauser and Karl Friedrich Schinkel. A chapter on current uses of Biedermeier illustrates the timeless quality of this style, from full traditional settings to the way that Biedermeier furniture looks fresh and alive in contemporary settings. An illustrated reference section will prove an indispensable guide to anyone interested in this rich homage to Middle European culture. 200 color illustrations.

Brush with watercolour: Painting landscapes the easy way........2007-06-10
Terry Harrison's book has opened new doors full of ideas for any artist in watercolour who want to add texture and great brush work to there own paintings. The information in Painting landscapes is well worth reading and re-reading as there is plenty of ideas for the artist to try out. Terry's use of colour and brush work is great and his book helps get the information across. Terry Harrison's book Painting Landscapes the easy way is well worth five stars and six if I could.

Extraordinary Draftsman/Architect-Old School Painter.......2006-07-13
This is a reprinted version of a book originally published in the late 40's, spiral-bound and intended to be a step-by-step trainer of methods used in traditional transparent watercolor and architectural rendering. Back then, papers were different but by recognizable European makers; paints were fewer (color choices too!) and methods of "paint-slinging" very "creative" as well! Kautsky was trained as an architect in Hungary and not a "Sunday" painter...hence his methodology was very traditional and "old-school" oriented. This is not a coffee table book-it is a concise study of picture-making, published in an historical period that didn't include the lavish color plates as today's offerings contain. This man could really draw! He had worked in the field for over 50 years by the time this book was offered by Reinhold, and he employed an economy of means practiced by only the best delineators of the period. Hence, his images are tight, well composed and clearly executed in a methodical and somewhat slow fashion (by today's standards). The "California Style" painters, for example, used symbols and a sort of shorthand collection of shapes and colors in their paintings, to convey their expressive imagery-not Kautsky! His are decidedly architectural renderings employing accurate perspective and traditional compositional devices. For images and techniques that are decidedly contemporary variations on this, choose a book by Robert Wade, or John Lovett or Al Stine, whose simplifications may be more appealing and certainly more colorfully printed with loads of useful, "painterly" advice. But, Kautsky's tree and wood renderings, roads and landscapes among other subjects are stunningly true to species and form and fashioned with only a couple of brushes which will require dilligent practice to replicate. Serious designers, architectural delineators and art students willing to practice with a vengeance, will discover Kautsky's instructional insights and methods to be invaluable and not equalled by ANY of today's current publishing artists.
Ways with Watercolor Ted Kautsky.......2006-02-24
I was very disappointed in the content. There were not enough color plates and transparency in the color was lacking. Many of the instructions were used with black and white sketches and plates. Many of Kautskys subjects and scenes appeared to me to be "pre watercolor career" pencil sketches which I recognized.
Dark somber and sparse in my opinion.
Kautzky's Ways with Watercolor.......2005-08-30
I found the prints excesively dark, specially the black and white ones and the color plates didn't offer enough variations of tones. Overall his paintings looked quite uniform.

Stimulating analysis for intermediate watercolourists.......2000-06-06
This book gives analyses of dozens of the artist's luminous watercolours. Each painting is given a full page, with a facing page of details on the painting of the picture. The book is organized by type of subject. Unfortunately for beginners, this book doesn't have a guiding thread, and so I would recommend it for slightly more advanced painters. Fans of Ron Ranson should like this book.
bland.......2000-03-25
This book was a terrible disappointment. Although it is clear that he knows something of painting in watercolors, the samples given were bland. Spread across the entire page that blandness became stifling. This book would work for a true novice but any one else should steer clear.

Book Description
Take a drive down memory lane with this rare collection of gasoline station photographs from both public and private collections, touring a much simpler time in American history. Since its inception in the early 1900s, the service station has been an icon of the American roadside and a catalyst of our childhood memories. Included is a brief history of the development of the gasoline station in the United States and details about many of the companies which punctuated the roadsides with their buildings, including the Standard companies, Cities, Mobil, Phillips, Gulf, Shell, Texaco, and Conoco. Filled with over 500 black and white photos, Roadside Memories captures the essence of American life over the first seventy years of this century. Captions provide station location and era identification. These nostalgic photos aid both the collector and historian interested filling up on high-grade service station pumps, classic advertising, architecture, and classic automobiles of the 1920s-70s.
Customer Reviews:
History ok, small geography of pictures.......2004-04-19
This book offers a very basic history of the gas companies. The picures in the book are almost all from Tennessee. I do not feel that the pictures choosen offer a fair representation of "vintage gas stations." I believe that the book could have been much more appealing had the authors chosen to use pictures from all over the country. They speak of stations located in California and the northeast yet there are very little pictures from either region. Also most of the pictures in the book were taken in the 1950s and 60s, there are few older photos.

Unapologetically Adolescent.......2006-05-25
I first discovered this book while browsing in the "bricks" rendition of Amazon's major competitor, and thought the premise alone was funny as hell. After all, the "Chicken Soup" movement had just gotten traction (and has since morphed into absurdity, with titles such as "Chicken Soup For The Hitman's Soul" -- just kidding), so it was a phenomenon ripe for lampooning.
I mentioned the discovery to my then-girlfriend and even requested it for a Christmas gift. Sadly, by the time she got around to buying it, it was no longer available. She even accused me of delusional behavior.
Reminiscing about her one evening led me to search for "Chicken Soup", and lo, it could be had as a used book. So good money was paid, and it was money well spent.
One could cite it as an example of a waning trend (Beavis and Butt-head) clashing with a rising trend (Chicken Soup For The Soul), and in my quite biased opinion, B&B won that battle.
Despite their limited vocabulary, B&B take apart Chicken Soup and pretty much the touchy-feely pop psyche movement as a bunch of hooey that people often preach but seldom practice.
Though a B&B book will never approach their "epichodes", especially the pre-commercial (that is, before complete MTV assimilation and de-lousing) stuff (e.g. "Frog Baseball"), it is acceptable to this B&B fan.
very funny book.......2001-01-29
If you love to watch Beavis and Butthead, then this book is for you! It is such a great book! I had so much fun reading this book because it is so funny.
Sucks big time.......2000-06-15
To use a butthead phrase from his movie "Beavis and butthead do america" :
THIS SUCKS MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE SUCKED BEFORE
Dont buy it . Dont even accept it as a gift.I think thats pretty clear . Its for books like this , that Amazon need to place a 0-star rating.
The best thing for the Beavis & Butt-Head Fan!.......1999-07-07
My God, I laughed so hard I cried. This book makes you keep reading and you can never put it down. It's like a comic book but it is a different kind of humor. Very cool. The best "Chicken Soup" book.

Reading Sucks.......2005-12-16
Okay, i couldn't find a review for this book, a description, or anything... so i had no idea what it was when i ordered it. That is why i am writing this review. This is a collection of 4 books: "Beavis and Butthead Ensucklopedia", "Huh Huh for Hollywood", "The Butt-Files", and "Chicken Soup for the Butt". It's worth it, lots of funny stuff and plenty of pictures. A great item to add to your collection, especially if you don't have any or all of those books.
Customer Reviews:
Funniest book ever made.......2000-06-11
The "Ensucklopedia" is definitely the funniest book I've ever read. If you used to like watching Beavis & Butt-Head, you gotta get this book. Beavis & Butt-Head go through the letters of the alpabet talking about different things on every letter. For example, in the C's they will talk about Chicks and Concerts Beavis & Butt-Head style.
Every page of this book, or "Ensucklopedia," is hilarious and I recommend it to anybody.
Funniest book I've ever read... I read it everyday!!!.......1999-06-14
This book has everything from classified ads to songs written by Beavis & Butt-Head to the story of creation. All through 6th grade I read this in SSR and I laughed everytime. It RULES!!!.......1998-11-10
It's in the form of an encyclopedia, covering everything from history to choking your chicken (listed under "M", but the boys couldn't bring themselves to say the word). Hilarious from cover to cover. Tears were rolling down my cheeks I was laughing so hard. A must-have for any fan. Mm-heh-heh.

Customer Reviews:
This book rocks hard (huh huh, I said hard).......2004-09-03
This book reminds me of the beavis and butthead movie and the TV show, not that I miss them because I have all the episodes on DVD, and the movie, thats besides the point. This book really is entertaining to read and doesn't take very long to finish. It has pictures of various artists from their videos and they talk about them, make fun of them, whatever. Since I only paid like $1, it was well worth it for this book.
This book rules....IT RULES!.......2004-02-12
Many die-hard fans from my generation would remember the summer of 1993 when Beavis and Butt-Head first graced MTV. With the premiere episodes FROG BASEBALL and PEACE, LOVE, AND UNDERSTANDING in 1992, followed by the first season episodes, Mike Judge's ongoing series of two braindead cartoon nitwits was born.
Just reading through this, the first of many feature books, brings to mind flashbacks of the first season episodes in particular. Like many other cartoon shows, the animation is cruder and the characters look and sound slightly different, and the music videos added the real class to it. The book is loaded with pages of fun activities from house painting (coloring) to word matches to songs to progress report incidents from Highland High School.
All of it together makes this book a tour through time in the evolution of the show itself. For any of you fans who really loved the early episodes, this book is definitely for you. You will be laughing long and hard. Huh huh huh huh. I said "long and hard". That was cool!
I YEARN TO SEE WHEN EVERY SINGLE EPISODE WILL BE RELEASED - UNCUT AND UNCENSORED - ON DVD!
Funny as Hell.......2003-06-16
This book is about as funny as watching the show! The way beavis and butt-head are so stupid sometimes in the book crack me up. They even have a list of funny words like Tungsten, cocky, sextet, and so on. If you are a diehard fan of Beavis and Butt-head such as moo-ah you MUST buy this book!
Great Book- Misleading Title.......2000-09-28
This is one book that does not live up to its name This is a very funny book- If you think Beavis and Butthead are funny-- If you don't like Beavis & Butthead you probably won't like this book
huh huh huh huuuh.......2000-06-18
This book sucks is so great. For any Beavis and Butthead fan it is the must have collectors item. It has many detailed photos of, their town, the house, old B&B and many more pieces of impotant(huh-huh) background. My personal favorite which still makes me laugh is the list of words.
Customer Reviews:
Mm heh, heh heh heh..... ummmm...... good.. mm heh.......1999-08-06
I liked this book. It combines two great things (huh huh huh, you said things), Science Fiction, and Beavis and Butt-head.
Some of it's cool but some of it like, sucks.......1998-11-10
B&B take-offs on various sci-fi stuff. Funny, but didn't get the belly laughs out of me that the Ensucklopedia did. For fans only.
this book was, like,cool! ;-).......1998-01-05
this book, like, rocks hard because there was, like, cool stuff and, like, it was cool!
Customer Reviews:
uh, this book was like ok or something.......2000-10-11
This book was pretty cool, especially the part when Butthead flushes himself down the toilet. But it needs more pictures of naked chicks.
Pretty damn funny.......1998-05-06
This book is great for a laugh. Quite a lot of stuff on Beavis and Butthead too. One of the funniest books I've read in a long time but it didn't get a 10 because it was too short. Cool pictures of B&B too.
I loved this book!!!.......1997-06-21
Since I love Beavis and Butthead, I went out and got this book when it first came out in stores. In the book, there are hilarious photos, and stories that of course only Beavis and Butthead would have gone through. I loved this book, but I didn't give it a ten because I guess you kind of have to know who Beavis and Butthead are in order to understand the jokes they make or the type of dialect they use. Anyway, I loved this book and would recommend it to anybody at all who likes Beavis and Butthead half as much as I do
Customer Reviews:
Totally Cool.......2001-07-06
If you like Beavis and Butthead, then you will love this addition to their book library. All about them talking ridiculously about other foreign countries. I love it and if your a fan you will too.
