Represents the largest collection of polymer NMR spectra available
This unique source of information provides a fingerprint of individual polymers, so the microstructure or fine structure of the polymer can be readily identified. Appropriate NMR analysis conditions (solvent(s), temperature, pulse angle, etc.) are specified for each polymer sample. All the resonances, often obtained at different frequencies, are interpreted with remarks concerning the homopolymer or copolymer skeletons.
- Contains over 530 1H and 13C NMR spectra of soluble and swollen gelled 13C polymers
- Includes new NMR polymer spectra, together with those previously published
- Comprehensive bibliography
- Spectra are grouped into families for ready-searching
- CD-ROM is fully searchable and user-friendly
- 5th Edition of popular reference work
An essential reference for polymer chemists and physicists in research and industrial analytical laboratories.

Book Description
Instrumental, especially spectrometric methods are widely used in analytical laboratories for identification and quantitative determination of complex organic systems. The author has shown this in earlier works for polymeric materials of all kind. In this book he describes the application of vibrational (FTIR, UV, Raman) and mass spectrometries and of other instrumental techniques for identification and structure elucidation of plastics additives, e.g., antioxidants, stabilisers, plasticisers, pigments, rubber chemicals. The state of the art is compressed in numerous tables and figures; these also allow the interpretation of spectra. Especially remarkable is a collection of the FTIR spectra of 780 selected additives, together with structures and legends. This book is especially useful for the practitioner in plastics processing and production as well as plastics additives industry for the quality control of educts.
Book Description
Despite the industrial importance of extrusion troubleshooting, no book currently deals exclusively with this topic. This book rectifies this situation.
This book addresses all issues crucial in extrusion troubleshooting. In addition, industrial case studies, which are richly illustrating with color photographs and photomicrographs, are used to provide exemplary approaches to efficient problem analysis and problem solving.
Both authors have worked in extrusion for many years and have been involved in many troubleshooting projects. Although it is impossible to discuss all possible extrusion problems, it is possible to discuss the main categories and to develop a systematic and methodical approach to solving extrusion problems. In this book, the authors frequently use flow charts and fishbone charts to allow systematic troubleshooting.

Book Description
A definitive work on ESR and polymer science by today's leading authorities
The past twenty years have seen extraordinary advances in electron spin resonance (ESR) techniques, particularly as they apply to polymeric materials. With contributions from over a dozen of the world's top polymer scientists, Advanced ESR Methods in Polymer Research is the first book to bring together all the current trends in this exciting field into one comprehensive reference.
Part I establishes the fundamentals of ESR, from experimental techniques to data analysis, and serves as a valuable overview for the beginning ESR student. Part II introduces the broad range of ESR applications to polymeric systems, including living radical polymerization, block copoly-mers, polymer solutions, ion-containing polymers, polymer lattices, membranes in fuel cells, degradation, polymer coatings, dendrimers, and conductive polymers. By exposing readers to the great potential of ESR, the authors hope to encourage more extensive application of these methods.

Book Description
MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry is one of the latest and most fascinating new developments in the analysis of organic compounds. Originally developed for the analysis of biomolecules, it has developed into one of the most powerful techniques for the characterization of synthetic polymers. This book describes the fundamentals of the MALDI process and the technical features of MALDI-TOF instrumentation. It reviews the application of MALDI-TOF for identification, chemical and molar mass analysis of synthetic polymers. With many examples, this monograph examines in detail experimental protocols for the determination of endgroups, the analysis of copolymers and additives, and the coupling of liquid chromatography and MALDI-TOF.

Book Description
A Practical Guide to Understanding the NMR of Polymers presents an introduction to the theory and practice of NMR, and includes sections on the fundamental principles of NMR and the applications to polymers. This book will help readers understand how these methods can be used to determine the chemical structure of polymers that influences the macroscopic properties. Solid state NMR methods are introduced to enable the readers to measure the structure of polymers on longer length scales. It is also shown how NMR is used to measure the molecular dynamics that can be related to the mechanical properties of polymers.

Book Description
Presented in this volume is a class of deterministic models describing the dynamics of two plant species whose characteristics are common to the majority of annual plants. These models were developed in response to four major questions on the long-term outcomes of binary mixtures of plant species--is ultimate coexistence possible? If not, which strain will win? Does the mixture approach an equilibrium? If so, how long does the mixture take to attain it? In the particular case study modeled, the species involved are two pastural strains whose dynamics have critical agricultural and economic implications for the areas in which they are found, including North America, the Mediterranean region and Australia. These mathematical studies will be valuable to mathematical biologists, botanists, botanists interested in population dynamics, and graduate students in these areas.
Book Description
William Robinson used a pseudonym in 1836 to publish his now-famous memoir, knowing his all-too-realistic description of life on the lower decks would create a scandal. But he hoped it also would provoke changes in the practices of impressment and unfair punishment of sailors. Writing from the point of view of the ordinary Jack Tar in Nelson's Navy, he described the press gangs, floggings, keel-haulings, poor food, long watches, and bloody battles that were routine, as well as the relief found in drinking grog. Such vivid accounts of forecastle adventures were rare in the literature of the day--and remain rare today.
Robinson himself fought at Trafalgar in 1805 and took part in many other events in the long war against Napoleon. His revelations about the brutal conditions of everyday shipboard life in the classical Age of Sail--an era that nevertheless managed to produce some of England's finest seamen and most famous victories--provide a valuable record of the seaman's experience. This edition is illustrated with the work of caricaturist George Cruikshank, a contemporary of Robinson's well known for his sketches of nautical life, and an introduction by the noted Nelson scholar Oliver Warner. Originally published under the title Nautical Economy by Jack Nastyface, a hardcover edition of the memoir with the current title was published by the Naval Institute Press in 1973.

Book Description
In her "vignette" memoir, Judy Sharp tells how Nursing became the gateway to a life she aspired to. Born during the depression of immigrant Austrian parents in the steel city of Gary, Indiana, her pragmatic choice of a "practical" career instead of the artistic career she preferred, paid off big. She was able to have both! Not only did she find that her nursing and medical school peers shared her musical and writing interests, but so did a senior staff physician - they married, had a daughter, worked, traveled. Judy meanwhile pursued her studies in music and writing, and sang semi-professionally. Upon the death of her husband, she nursed in commercial corporations, and Marshall Fields. She married her present husband, a cinmatographic-writer, and continued nursing and pursuing her artistic interests. Now retired, she is presently a nurse consultant for a group of Chicago Alternative Schools ("the most challenging experience of all!") schools for disturbed children who have been forced to leave traditional public schools because of unacceptable behaviour.
Judy's desire in compiling this small work is to underscore how Nursing brought her a rich and full life. At the time when our country is in dire need of nurses, she hopes this glimpse of her life will inspire others to think of how a nursing career, with its endless opportunities and rewards, can be both a pragmatic and artistic choice.
