After having read this book I have changed my mind regarding fractals. I have always thought of fractals as a "smart" way of making maths popular. But Professor Birdi's book really links maths, Chemistry an Physics together in an new way. If you are a student, or if you work with related subjects you will benefit from the visionary point of view in the book.

I had the opportunity of working this book at a Colombian university, and I think it has all tools to be used in any manufacturing system by integrating helpful heuristics and algorithms. I frecuently use this book to solve some problems in my current job at a manufacturing company.

First book for IE.......2001-02-06

If you are an IE and you don't have this book, there might be some problems :) Well, Askin and Standridge did a great job in compiling almost any manufacturing/production system in a single comprehensive textbook. Any chapter is sufficient for basic understanding (including basic model), but further studies are given. Having this book along with Factory Physics is such a full of joy to be IE.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the application of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) within the Army Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) process in support of weapon systems acquisition. This thesis considers the Army's current acquisition process, M&S technologies, infrastructure, and policies that guide the Program Manager (PM) in the application of modeling and simulation in operational testing. An analysis of the potential strengths and weaknesses of M&S in addressing OT&E issues is presented. Lessons learned from past OT&E efforts are analyzed for process improvement through M&S applications. The analysis indicates that M&S is a viable tool for assisting the PM in completing OT&E. M&S techniques can assist in test design validation, expand testing in areas of limited resources and environmental concerns, and validate live testing data. From this analysis, a set of recommendations are formulated, indicating where the PM can integrate M&S into the OT&E process.

Very Timely Now.......2004-02-09

Shortly after this book came out in 2000, the US economy peaked, and then tumbled into a recession. During which, and since then, offshoring has become a very hot topic in the US, and also in Europe. Much has already been written elsewhere about the outsourcing of call centers and information technology to India, Phillipines and China, with the anticipation of more outsourcing to inevitably follow.

Which is why this book may be more topical now that just a few years ago, when it came out. It attempts to describe enterprise modelling in a global context. How to measure it and to then use this ability to, as objectively as possible, improve the global competitiveness of a company. The book has descriptions of metrics that can be computed and then compared across companies, for benchmarking. Plus, these measures could also be used across different national subsidiaries of a multinational, say. Or to compare the competitiveness measurements arising from two choices - to develop or maintain some ability inhouse, or to outsource it overseas.

A great childrens book, for grades 5-8. Well written naritive about survival, without any political or religious undertones found in the other story by Scott O'Grady. As a high school teacher I recomend this story for those younger children that seem more interested in playing cops & robbers than reading a book.

Flamin Hot.......2007-03-06

Captian Scott O'Grady , a F-16 pilot, gets shot down over enenmy tertory. This book tells his epic story of ecape form the whole ordeal. The author tells it so well he makes you feel like you are there! I was amazed at the amount of flash backs to his family and friends back in the U.S. that worryed so much about him. As he tries to ecape, he encounters many chalnges like wind, rain and eating ants. Most of all he tries to evade the Bosnian Surbes. Capt. Scott O'Grady was right, NATO is awesome!

Basher 52: a good read.......2007-01-08

I thought this book was very well written for a number of reasons. First of all, the author puts together all the events in logical order so that the reader is not confused. The author also puts cliffhangers at the right time (personally, I didn't like it, but it didn't matter). That keeps the reader on edge to hurry and get through the cliffhanger chapters to get back to the action. At least that's what I did. Also, it doesn't bore the reader. Even though the author is talking about how he had to lie in a hole for most of the day, he always writes something new that keeps readers reading, like him eating his first meals on the run, or him hurrying to find a new hole-up spot. Lastly, I love the fact that he didn't glorify himself for escaping capture and call himself a hero. He gives credit to the real heroes; the men that rescued him.

This book is very suspenseful. Its packed with action; it was an enjoyable book to read. it can be dull at some parts but all in all it was a great book. when he is hidding from the enemy you pretty much can feel his fear. i was impressed by his show of bravery and resoursefulness. i would suggest that if you like action and bravery read this book.
